The sushi was delicious but the service was too slow. Lunchtime in downtown Pittsburgh requires appropriate staff to meet the lunch rush needs. There was one server doing it all. We all waited a long time for everything from ordering to paying the bill. I didn't like the Salad and the lunch special was expensive. The previous namesake Sushi i had more cost effective specials and the salad was delicious. All the steps to get to the rooftop were another challenge so I doubt I return to this restaurant.

Not sure how to feel about this place. The staff were friendly. But there weren't a lot of vegetarian options on the menu. The Vg to Me taco wasn't bad, and the rice to seaweed, cucumber, and avocado ratio wasn't bad. There was too much seaweed or not enough avocado because I didn't realize there was any avocado in my taco until the very last bite. This is a new restaurant, so I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope they improve. I'd love to see more vegetarian options if possible! Also, if you do choose to get the sushi tacos, I recommend getting at least 2 if you're hungry! The spicy edamame were okay, not sure if I'd recommend that again. Some edamame pieces had too much spice on them and others had none at all. I do wish the best for this restaurant and I would like to come back again to try something else.

Stumbled upon this place when and what a cute surprise it was. The weather was beautiful, so that definitely helped the vibe for the spot. Service was friendly and attentive. LOVED my roll. Would definitely visit again when I'm in the city.

Okane Sushi restaurant recently had its soft opening, and my husband and I ate dinner there. The menu listed starters (e.g., spicy peanut edamame and takoyaki), soups, salads, sushi tacos, signature rolls, fruit green teas, whiskeys, wines, sake, cocktails, beers, sodas, etcetera. The seating host/server provided timely and courteous service. The dining area was small, but he explained that an upstairs dining area and a rooftop will soon open. My husband and I focused on the sushi tacos. The tacos were a decent size, and the server had recommended that each person order 2-3 sushi tacos to fill up. Each taco cost only several dollars. The menu lists several flavors of signature tacos with crispy nori shells. Furthermore, customers may customize build-your-own sushi tacos by choosing 1) a shell (either hard deep-fried seaweed and rice paper or soft seaweed), 2) rice (sushi rice, brown rice, or house-special rice), 3) protein (salmon, tuna, snapper, beef, tamago omelette, shrimp tempura, yellowtail, scallop, octopus salad, etc.), 4) vegetable (cucumber, avocado, onion, lettuce, oshinko, etc.), 5) sauce (spicy mayo, eel, sriracha chili, yum yum, etc.), and 6) topping (masago, Cheetos, sesame, etc.) I ate the Spicy Seafood taco (tuna, salmon, avocado, cucumber, wasabi mayo, eel sauce, and masago) and the Fresh Okane taco (salmon, tuna, yellowtail, mango, jalapeno, rice, wasabi, mayo, furikake, and masago). I enjoyed both very much. The shells were perfectly hard and crunchy, and the fillings tasted delicious. My husband ordered two build-your-own sushi tacos. One taco contained a hard shell, teriyaki chicken, sushi rice, apple, and honey-soy glaze, and the other taco contained a hard shell, sushi rice, tuna, avocado, spicy mayo, and green onion. My husband told me that he was not expecting to like these sushi tacos but that they ended up being "tasty." He, however, still felt hungry after eating two, so he would order several (!) in the future. I also drank a passion fruit green tea, and I really liked its flavors.

Okane Sushi was much smaller than I expected, but quaint and cozy nonetheless. I think just a few tables (~3) and bar seating, and I did notice a baby high chair tucked away in the corner. The space has a modern, inviting aesthetic, and the service was fantastic, especially considering there was only one server running the entire restaurant. The sushi tacos were the real standout for me! It was a fun, unique twist on sushi, and the only place in PGH where you can get something like this. The taco shell is made from fried nori and rice paper and gives a serious CRUNCH. You can build your own taco, but we went with the signature options. My favorite was the Fresh Okane taco with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and mango. We also tried the Broken Heart Roll with spicy tuna, which was beautifully plated, but not as memorable. The creamy udon, though? Absolutely fantastic and 10/10 would recommend. It had a rich, savory sauce and perfectly squishy noodles. Overall, I'd come back if I'm in the area, and especially for the crispy tacos and hot plates. I cannot wait till they open their omakase restaurant upstairs!!

This spot near Market Square had some really delicious sushi! Absolutely loved their pizza tacos, they had amazing textures and the taco shell made of nori and rice paper was so crispy. I've lived in NYC and haven't really seen these before! Loved the Okane pizza too- it was like crispy rice but had the perfect chew and the wasabi and eel sauces were so balanced with the fresh tuna and salmon. Staff was so friendly and nice with great recs. Their rolls and apps were good too. They had great drinks too- we liked the matcha one and the yuzu margarita! The matcha one tasted just like a matcha latte. The space is nicely renovated too and was vibey. Definitely recommend coming here for a bite when you're downtown or looking for something new to try!

Reservations are highly recommended - it's on the smaller side. The menu has so many options and an amazing variety. One thing to note is this Japanese food is not like most others. Its focus is on homestyle, also fried/stir fried Japanese dishes. So do not expect Ramen or noodle soups. A couple things that are always ordered is the Kaarage, Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki (best in the city), yakisoba or udon, and gyoza. The staff is so sweet and the decorations remind me of Izakaya places in larger cities. They have a bar with cool cocktails and adorable bento boxes they sell during lunch hours throughout the week. Cannot recommend this place enough!!

The takoyaki has a crunchy outside and a good flavor (4/5), and the okonomiyaki is pretty filling (4/5); these were the best two. The yaki-udon with shrimp was ok (3/5) but definitely expensive for what it was and the quantity; they also don't add much shrimp, despite the up charge. The sake no shioyaki was below average for salmon (2/5) and very expensive for that amount they give you. Similarly, the onigiri is almost entirely rice if you add salmon (2/5). You order on a tablet, and they bring the food out. Service was ok (3/5); we had empty waters for a while. The restaurant is well-decorated, and you can see the chefs work, which gives it an ambiance somewhat like a hibachi place (4/5). Overall, I think most of the items are pretty expensive for what they are; they don't have the quality or quantity to justify the price.

It honestly raised the bar for sushi in Pittsburgh and feels like the kind of restaurant you'd expect to find in a much bigger city. Everything I've tried has been incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. Yes, it's a splurge, but it's absolutely worth it for the quality. The restaurant is located right on Mt Washington, giving a good view of the city. The interior looks appropriate for a sushi restaurant, but due to the massive windows lacked the darker vibe of other upscale restaurants. I've been to hundreds of sushi spots and the interior was merely average. Otaru seems to struggle with its identity. It needs to either commit to being an upscale restaurant or relax and simply be a quality one. The wait staff were kind and prompt, but at times appeared they may be less experienced. We were brought hot (paper) towels and edamame. We ordered the fried tako balls as an app. I personally don't prefer tako and found it very dense and chewy and the overall flavors were too undeveloped. The hand rolls were well filled and were easy to eat due to being more of a taco configuration than a true hand roll. The nori was not too tough, lending to a pleasant experience. The nigiri and sashimi were also good. The nigiri were good, but not as elevated as another upscale sushi spot in the city. They were still very good, but not quite excellent. They either need a bit more development or to be relaxed and served as two per order and the price adjusted slightly upward. If you take one thing from this review, let it be this. The yellowtail jalepeno cups were astonishing. By far this was the most well executed dish I have ever eaten and the best sushi dish I've had. They appear to be wrapped in toasted sesame seed wrappers. If you've had Hapi mixed crackers they give the same great flavor of the "fried chicken" pieces but with yuzu vinaigrette and the umami of the fish. I will certainly be back solely because of how good they were.

I wouldn't really call this a supper club to be honest but the place definitely carries a house music bar vibe and the back bar area and seating is very dimly lit, perfect for cozying up and enjoying a drink late night. The ladies' room was so dark, I mistook it for a storage area because I could only make out a white ladder in the corner that was being used as cute shelving. The place is seat yourself. Our waiter was not super friendly and didn't offer to give us napkins or anything when our wobbly table caused our drinks to splash all over the place. The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.
