From the moment we entered we knew we made the right decision (after quickly leaving another Korean restaurant in Cary which looked nothing like the pictures online!). This place needs wait staff and help in the kitchen as soon as possible. It was excruciating waiting for our food and watching parties continue to enter, a few actually ended up leaving. We sat at a booth in the bar which was fine until they filled up and parties were seated on both sides of us with zero social distancing and no dividers. I liked the beer list, I ended up having 3 IPA's since we were there for so long. We started off with the pan fried gyoza which was really good. For our meals I ordered the chicken hibachi and my husband ordered the beef bulgogi. The hibachi was good but the bulgogi was dry. I'm always skeptical about a fusion spot but Okja does a great job with Japanese + Korean! The menu has so much so something for everyone! Another Yelp recommended the Korean Street food menu - I tried the Spicy Seafood Udon and it was Incredible! Love the thick noodles and fresh seafood The sushi was great quality and the shrimp hibachi was tasty also. Overall definitely a hit The atmosphere is interesting : one area looks like a beer garden indoors, the area near the bar has a Korean theme with K pop videos and modern lighting, the outdoors has lots of patio tables and cornhole. It seemed to be lacking a bit in atmosphere. I loved one of the 2 sushi rolls I ordered but didn't like the other. My daughter and son in law went their once at a different time and was left waiting to be seated for 10 mins and wound up leaving. It was definitely a new experience being they have a unique menu that may be hiding some hidden gems. I would encourage you to go and form your own opinion. I don't think that on my own I would want to go back but would if joining peers who did want to. read more

Okja has been on our radar for a while and we finally went with my mom and brother so that we could order a bunch of things and share. We sat on their heated, covered patio (dog friendly :)) and the heaters are in the ceiling so everyone gets some warmth. It was very nice. They also have games on their uncovered portion (ping pong & connect 4) and other games for kids laying around. They also brought out water for our pup. For starters we ordered pan fried gyoza, crab rangoons, seafood pancake, and jajangmyeon. All of the starters were really really good. I loved every single one. The seafood pancake especially. For the meal we shared a dragon roll (very tasty), poke bowl, spicy pork bulgogi, bibimbap, and jjamppong. All of the entrees were good but slightly underwhelming compared to the apps. Don't get me wrong. Still delicious but not quite as good as the apps for some reason. Since 2 May Okja K-Pub was a new owner, so previous reviews are no longer valid. The restaurant is run be a Korean family that takes great pride in serving authentic Korean cuisine. The appetizers were delicious, the kimchi was freshly prepared and perfectly seasoned, and the fried dumplings were surprisingly light and crispy. The seafood omelette was one of the best I have had in a long time. As main courses we had the marinated beef short ribs, the marinated and bbq-ed ribeye, the spicy squid, noodles and the oxtail soup. Everything was equally well prepared and delicious. Only the oxtail soup had little flavor and I would not recommend it unless you know the dish and expect something delicate. The service was extremely friendly and we felt treated as if we were family. I can highly recommend this place. read more

Came here last weekend for lunch. Decided to checkout the outdoor area since it was heated and they have these benches that are spaced apart. We shared 1 order of the 6 wings half and half. 3 of them sweet and spicy and 3 of them soy garlic. We each also ordered the special JJa Jang Myun. At $5.99, the JJa Jang Myun was definitely worth it. Especially when it was brought out. Each came in a huge bowl with tons of sauce on top and the noodles underneath. We both thought that 1 bowl is definitely enough for two people. The wings were very crunchy and flavorful. I've probably never had wings with such a nice crunchy exterior but at the same time, juicy on the inside. Our waitress was accommodating to our requests. I would give Okja 10 stars if I could. We traveled over an hour to eat here and it was definitely worth it. The food was amazing! We tried so many different dishes and loved them all. It was a new experience for our family and so fun to try the korean foods that we see in the K-dramas that we've come to love. The service was wonderful. The manager is kind and friendly. She was so personable and made us feel like family. The ambiance was very hip. K-pop music was playing which my teens sang along with. The restaurant was very clean. We will most definitely be back. Okja has a new owner the young Korean couple who used to run Seoul Garden in Cary. The best soups tang dishes if you like hot Korean spicy soup. Their jajangmyun and Jjampong are the best in the triangle. Try their pan fried black noodles jajanagmyun best to eat with friends and family. Their banchan is always fresh and very delicious. If you are looking for a place to eat home cooked Korean food then this is the place for you to try. The couple has always provided the best customer service while we are always there. Ambiance is nicely decorated with old school 80-90s Korean Gayo. It's always nice to have reminiscence about older memories. The food was really good, I ended up getting the stone bowl bibimbap, something I've had trouble finding around the area, and it was absolutely delicious! Incredibly warm and filling. I also tried out the steam dumplings, which were pretty good, I want to try them fried in the future. The service was also excellent, and the inside of the restaurant felt both upscale and homey. I think it would be a great place for both a fancy dinner and a night out with friends. Can't recommend it enough! read more

Absolutely aweful in all respects. I had lunch here on a weekday as a solo diner. I was one of only 3 patrons in the bar, and one of just 7 patrons in the entire restaurant. Service was s-l-o-w, and the food was barely edible. SERVICE: I waited so long to receive a menu that I was on the verge of leaving. Then, once I finished my lunch, I waited so long for the bill that I had to get up and stand at the bar to waive down the server. FOOD: I had a sushi roll that looked good, but I fully suspect had I not eaten it the staff would have tossed it. It was not fresh tasting, nor was it constructed well. Several times my chop sticks full of roll disintegrated and fell on the table. THE TABLE: The surface of the table looked unclean, but on closer inspection it suffered from having a hot plate put on it in the past which fried the finish. Unless you want to be outside playing corn hole on their patio, there are better options for you to try. read more

We were having a birthday pre-celebration for our son and the waitress was very kind and had an awesome mocktail made that had a popsicle in it. He loved it. Mm... wasn't too thrilled about this restaurant. I was taking my parents around since it's only been their second time here in Raleigh so I wanted to "Wow" them with the different food here. Aaand this was sort of a let down. It was a party of four and no one there when we arrived. The tables were quite sticky, floors a little dirty so I didn't wanna bother checking the bathrooms. We ordered Korean wings and Korean pancake for our appetizers. The wings were subpar, skin was already soggy when we received them, the pancake was alright. You could definitely taste the vegetables in every bite of the pancake, but it lacked seasoning. For the main entree, there were 3 different orders of bulgogi; beef bulgogi, spicy pork bulgogi, and pork bulgogi, each one tasted the same. Little effort to the seasoning. I also ordered the cold noodle dish, it's hard to mess up, but I wasn't to thrilled about it. The noodle stayed clumped together, and it was served with actual ice cubes... I didn't expect that to actually be in the dish. After taking a few trips to Korea I guess you get certain expectations when you try new Korean restaurants. In my opinion, the one compliment I do have is the customer service. We were happily greeted and service was on point. Food was served at a decent time. I like to try places more than once, so I'll give it another try, but order something new. read more

Wow. We all loved the food here. As koreans who lived in nyc and la where korean food abounds, we have been disappointed in many of the korean restaurants in the triangle area. We've tried almost all (if not all) of the korean restaurants and I'm thankful this place exists because this is one of THE BEST here. First of all, it's in the same plaza as Honey Pig. The space is very spacious with 2 indoor areas and 1 patio with string lights. Onto the food. We ordered the fried chicken (whole) with half/half sauce, bibim neng myun, jja jang myun, and ossam bulgogi. OMG EVERYTHING WAS SO GOOD. My brother (who was visiting from nyc and is a neng myun aficionado) highly approved of the bibim neng myun. (It's hard to find solid neng myun!) The fried chicken was perfectly crispy with the perfect amount of sauce on it. And the seasoning of the ossam- delicious!!!! The jja jang myun was only $5.99 and it was perfect for our 2 boys to share. We also loved how reasonable the prices were. For all this food plus 2 beers and a soju, it came out to $100 before tip and we had leftovers! (To compare, the total price came out to half of what we spent at honey pig where we left less full than here and we had no leftovers.) Finally, the service was really good. Server kept asking if we were ready and clearly getting annoyed that we weren't. When we ordered they ask what we wanted to eat and we told them. As soon as we were done ordering the food the server walked away. She didn't even ask or give us time to order drinks. So we didn't. Like I said food tasted great! Was it worth the price eh ... I rather go to H mart. Because of this experience the ambiance was a bit like hurry up and go. They were not busy at all. You had servers sitting with customers which I guess were family. We weren't ask if we wanted anything else. They just brought us the check and ask if we wanted boxes. If anything I would order take out instead of eating in. Okja is a delicious and great place for dinner, especially if you have kids or dogs. They have a jungle gym, supersized games on their patio and cornhole. The atmosphere and staff are very friendly! Many of their bad reviews have to do with them being short-staffed, not the quality or taste of the food. My husband and I go here on a regular basis. It is delicious and authentic!! Came here with my daughter on a weeknight. Unfortunately, they were short-staffed. Like only 1 person handling all customers. We waited 10 min to get seated, then another 20 min to get orders in. I felt really bad for the server. It wasn't her fault. She was clearly upset, had indicated she wasn't supposed to work a double. She even cried. She gets 5 stars in my opinion for handling everything solo. The food was ok. We ordered a seafood pancake, half&half korean chicken and beef bulgogi (super dry). My daughter enjoyed the outdoor games and was able to run around with other kids there while waiting for food. We probably won't return for a while. I have been dreaming about this food!!! Seriously... date night brought us out where I was more than craving... drooling over some dumplings (Yaki Mandu) and they did NOT disappoint! Followed by some phenomenal sushi for me, and steak & shrimp Hibachi for him (melt in your mouth!).. absolutely to die for! The atmosphere was fun and eclectic! The staff were amazing!
