Olar Noso is a very popular spot, so make a reservation. It's easy enough through OpenTable, but if you try booking on a Friday morning for that evening, the good times disappear quickly throughout the day. There's a small parking lot in the rear and a bigger lot across the street, although both can fill up when the restaurant gets busy. This place gets absolutely packed and I think it's simply because the food is good. It's not cheap -- in fact, some prices will make you do a double take (yes, olives for $16). Wine by the glass is steep too. That said, some things feel like a much better value. Our "half" pitcher of sangria basically came in a full-sized pitcher filled more than halfway and tasted great. Plenty for two. A lot of the menu is also easily shareable. We split the beet salad and it was big... enough for a couple. Fresh, flavorful and satisfying. Then we shared the paella Valenciana, another huge portion loaded with fatty chorizo, chicken, shrimp, scallops, clams and mussels in flavorful saffron rice. Really balanced ratio of seafood, meat and rice instead of just being a giant pile of filler. Btw -- it gets friggin loud in here. Families with kids, couples, groups of friends, older folks... the whole place was buzzing. Pretty wild atmosphere. It's also very casual for a place serving food at these prices -- servers walking around in jeans, energetic vibe, packed tables everywhere. Service was a little meh. Adequate, but nothing friendly. I'm also not a fan of places where the waiter clears appetizer plates but deliberately leaves the dirty fork sitting on the table for the next course. Bleh. Overall though, the food is legitimately very good. Expect a loud, busy dinner with strong portions, tasty sangria, a specials menu without prices and a 3% credit card fee added at the end. read more

The most regular restaurant my husband and I dine at in the Rockland/Jersey area. I don't have the right words to express how consistently delicious the food is! We've been dining at Olar since the Piermont days. The food was breathtaking then and honestly, it remains as good, perhaps even slightly better, today which is so impressive! Everything from the chips, garlic shrimp and octopus appetizers- to the rosemary flatbread- to the pappardelle lamb ragu, sausage pea cavatelli- to the fish special, whatever it is- is so flavorful, creative, and truly amazing! If you go, plan to get there early for a drink because the bartender is so great, she makes very delicious (and strong!) drinks. Try the margarita or the espresso martini. They also have a nice wine list. Just go already!! read more

we have driven by this place so many times and have been always wanting to give it a try. tonight we finally did - and it was pretty good. I think we will definitely go back again. while they do have a few entrees and a nice mix of specials, this place is predominantly a tapas joint. I had the goat cheese fritters which were amazing. The mortadella pistachio pizza was spectacular, light, crispy and all quality ingredients. Garlic shrimp were a great size and had just the right amount of smoky paprika. Also ordered a side of cheese bread which is a must just to dunk on the leftover garlic oil. For mains ordered the Duck Ragu and Skirt Steak. The Duck ragu had good flavor, I just think this dish would have paired better with a different style pasta and could have used some finely grated cheese. From the moment my boyfriend and I were seated and looked at the menu, we knew we were going to love our meal at Olar Noso. This spot is about 40 minutes away but I would gladly make the drive for this excellent food. This is a tapas restaurant but they also have several regular side dishes to choose from including a large variety of pizzas! They do have a bar and a really interesting selection of cocktails. They all sounded delicious. We ordered a variety of things to share because why not? The best thing we ate was the fennel salad. Finely shredded fennel, thinly sliced apple, roasted nuts, the best shaved cheese, all tossed in the most perfect and light vinaigrette. We literally debated on taking one home it was that good!! In addition to this, we ordered oxtail empanadas, grilled octopus, Spanish fries, and a pizza. Everything was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous for tapas style. We surely didn't leave hungry and even brought home some leftovers. The hardest part was only picking a few things to try! I can't wait to return and try some of the other items on the menu. The service was also top notch. Everyone was attentive and very friendly. This is a place where chef's eat. The culinary talent is spot on. Casual place, little noisy at peek times. Unfortunately, seating is a little tight. I had to move several times as customers and waitstaff need to get get passed me to serve near me. Food was closed to perfect in our eyes. Our friends chose Olar Noso for a couples dinner. We had been meaning to try it for a while and foolishly hadn't. We were seated pretty quickly for a 7:30 Friday reservation. Place is very popular, so a reservation seems to be a must for popular times. The restaurant decor is fun, filled with vibrant colors. Noise level was reasonable for us to hold a conversation. Our waitress was very pleasant and helped with some recommendations. Hard to wait for paragraph 3 to discuss the main event, the food! This is definitely a "foodie" restaurant. They have a new specials menu daily. The night we were there, I didn't even need to open the regular menu. (I did anyway, just to be sure) My friend and I shared all six of the tapas on the special menu, a bit extreme perhaps but certainly worth it. Iberico ham, crab cakes, shishito peppers, ceviche, sourdough with burrata, peaches and ham, and cauliflower with raisins and pine nuts were all plentiful and delicious! We added the wild boar papardalle from the regular menu to share as well, also a tasty dish. Our wives both went with the Olar salad, followed by a salmon entree and were happy as well. Our dessert selections were the ricotta cheesecake and the Nutella focaccia. We both preferred the decadent Nutella dessert but the cheesecake worked nicely with the fresh berries as well. My friend enjoyed one of their cocktails and our wives found the red sangria to be very smooth. This review has nothing to do with the food or service which are typically good. It has everything to do with reluctance of the staff to deal with a table of elf entitled yahoos sitting next to us that assumes their child could scream at the top of his lungs, kick chairs, ruin around and otherwise be a complete brat. Ruined would have otherwise been a nice dinner. It was obvious to the staff, given the eye rolls from multiple tables, that the kid was destroying the dining experience for multiple tables. They did nothing. When getting our check I have jokingly said to the host that he should supply ear plugs. His response was something to the effect of "it is not my job, there was nothing we could do about it." Really? I took my kids out plenty when they were younger. They were generally well behaved. However, if they were having a bad night, I made sure they did not negatively impact the dining experience of others. These folks even had dessert to make the oak. Last another half hour. Like the place, but my wife, who is very mild mannered, refuses to go back. Restaurant should understand that they are responsible to make sure one table does not make others miserable. I discovered Olar before it became Olar Noso, and it was a hole in the wall place in Piermont. I was so saddened to find out it closed after the pandemic. I'm still grieving the closure of Aquagrill in Soho, pizzeria Sirenetta in upper E side, and my favorite Mexican restaurant- Itztocan in E Village. To my relief, I found out about Olar's reopening in North Vale NJ by periodically searching for any news of it online. It was a loooooong wait, but so happy to have them in NJ side. I miss the homey vibe of the old Olar and the owner, but his son has taken up the torch, and is doing a fabulous job. The food is still the same and the service still feels warm and inviting. What I love about Olar Noso is their specials menu. I think it changes every week because I never get the same menu a week apart. The specials items sound so good that I rarely order from the regular menu because I don't know when the special items will reappear. The salad and fish dish on the special menu are usually on point and creative. I go often because I want to know what's the special of the day. As for the regular menu, my favorite is the mariscada salsa verde. Their salsa verde would make even old shoe leather taste good. Everything is seasoned perfectly and never salty. Since they often use ingredients that are in season, they are always fresh and high quality. We usually take pizza to go because there's just too much food, but we don't want to miss out on their pizza. Our fave are mushroom pizza and the artichoke pesto pizza. Very generous amount of toppings. My only gripe is that their pasta game isn't as consistent and strong as their pizza game. Sometimes the pasta is too al dente. I like al dente pasta, but it should have that bit of chewiness. Their pasta feels underdone and hard. One time the pasta was not drained too well and there was a bit too much water in the bottom of the bowl and diluted the sauce. I usually opt for their seafood dish than pasta, but my husband is a pasta fiend. We always say that we have to remember to ask the chef to go a minute longer in cooking the pasta, but we forget. If you get Liv as your server, you'll be very well taken care of. She's one of the best servers I've come across, and I eat out quite a bit. They now take CC, so no more making sure we have enough cash before heading out. Hopefully Olar Noso will be around for a long time. My heart can't take another restaurant closure. read more

It's difficult to imagine better service, we ordered 6 dishes which came out 2 at a time. They changed silverware and cleaned the table 4 times! So nice and thoughtful staff, the owners are out and about, involved with the action. If they took credit cards, service would move to 5.0. The decor is nice, yet VERY noisy. The two of us could talk but not intimate. They evidently tried adding cork to the ceiling yet it is still very noisy when they are full, which i understand is most evenings. As was mentioned by others, the Spanish Fries are killer good. It's a huge amount of chips so we took some home. The octopus is very tender and very tasty, as is the calamari which comes with a couple of shrimp and vegetables. We had reservation for 4 at 730 on Saturday. Place has a cool vibe, nice bar area and a pretty large dining room. Hostess was super friendly and very attentive. We were sat on time, which is always a plus. We were asked for our drink order promptly, which is a big plus for me, and given menus to look over. Nice drinks, I had a Ketile One martini, well made. We had the Spanish fries, very big, but very salty too. For apps, we also had spiced garlic shrimp, Bacalao Croquettes, mussels, and SaltRoasted Beets. The apps were the highlight of the meal, we ordered too much and all was very good For dinner we had the salmon, she liked it and 3 of us shared the Paella Marinera and a special pasta with crabmeat. Had an 8:30 reservation our table wasn't ready until about 9/915 which was fine because we hung out at the bar and had cocktails...the bar was a bit backed up so only 2 of 4 cocktails actually happened AT the bar (party of 4). The espresso martini was fantastic. Food: Calamari, huge portion, loved the mix of lightly battered veggies, calamari and shrimp. A different take on traditional frito misto more than just fried calamari but delicious and light! 5 stars. Margarita pizza and sopresatta pizza with hot honey: ehhhh. The crust was a little chewier than my personal preference for that style (more Naples style than anything else) and the cheese got cold very fast. The sopresatta pie more flavor, still a bit chewy but I would have preferred thinner slices of the sopresatta than thicker because it was a little heavier than we'd have liked but truly it tasted good and it's more preference than anything. 2 stars and 3 stars respectively. Octopus...smaller size portion BUT it was DELICIOUS. So tender and well prepared, not overly charred like many restaurants do. The white bean purée was creamy and well seasoned with a spritz of grilled lemon...fantastic. 5 stars The pea Cavatelli was HEAVENLY. I cannot stop thinking about it, talking about it, dreaming about it. The pasta itself was exceptional, tender with just the right chew for Cavatelli. The sauce was silky and luxurious, perfectly balanced...if it was appropriate I would have licked the bowl. This was the stand out. 5 stars. The paella....that was not paella. No socarrat what so ever...it was much closer to a seafood risotto with saffron than paella. The scallops and shrimp were pale...I mean visually unpleasantly pale. It just was not a true paella and it was a push to even call it paella inspired. Healthy portion of seafood no doubt but it did have a bit of a fishy flavor and not in a good way. This we would not order again...also dont loooove the market price aspect...2.5 stars. Portion is generous just not for us. The Alejandro cocktail was too spicy, I enjoy spicy cocktails but this was a pallet killer...not a drink to enjoy with dinner unfortunately. It was good but not great and not really balanced. Cosmo wasn't a proper cosmo, ordered Tito's but it was punchier than Tito's usually is so either that didn't happen or it just wasn't a balanced cosmo...disappointing for a 101 cocktail. We skipped dessert because we were definitely full. Saw the pear dessert special at the next table and it did look fantastic. 335 before tip for party of 4 with 10 cocktails, so honestly a solid meal for the price. Service was great and with a smile, she was knowledgable and friendly and accommodating. The restaurant is loud for sure but has a great atmosphere, not romantic but great for a dinner with friends or family. The first dinner that's really wowed me in a long time! The Fried Calamari Misto was great for splitting and I enjoyed that there is not only calamari, but fried vegetables and shrimp as well. Would also highly recommend the Salt Roasted Beets Salad. I'm usually am not that big of a fan of beets but found myself reaching for the salad over and over again. The Roman artichoke pizza exceeded all of my expectations - you can really tell from the pesto and olive oil that they're using quality ingredients. And finally, the Valencia Paella was just absolutely amazing. Will definitely be coming back again for more soon! read more

This new restaurant is huge and they even have a space for party's downstairs. The staff is the same and the food is just as amazing! Also, cash only like their last location. While the food was good, the waiter and the host failed to notify that kitchen is closing early. The waiter said he would come back later to take main course order and later informed us that the kitchen is closed. Neither the waiter nor the host offered alternatives claiming they will not reopen the kitchen even though it was only 9:15 pm. Never got last call notice and was denied food - this is just ridiculous service. The host and the waiter should be ex- employees at any self respecting restaurant. I love Olar so much that I would go by the Piermont location last year, just to peek in and hoping they'll reopen soon!
