I am sad to say that my experience here was just okay. The positive spin to the restaurant is that everything there is locally sourced...from the food and the beer, to the bricks walls and wood tables. The establishment was clean, fully staffed, and very simple in decor (brick and wood). We went tonight for my daughter's birthday and she actually said that she didn't like her food. I was surprised because loves steak! She got the kids 6oz steak and a side of broccoli. We had to send it back because it was cooked medium rare to medium. I ended up trying it and it was so bland. It had a good char to it, but just no flavor/seasoning at all. The broccoli was a little undercooked. I'm not sure if that is what they were going for because some people like crisp broccoli...but it was decent. It had butter and garlic on it. It was a good attempt, but I felt it needed to cook a bit longer. I had the crab cake sandwich with a side of broccoli. The crab cake was pretty small and the bread was massive! I had to take the top bread, cut it in half and use that as the top and bottom bun. It didn't come with any condiments like tartar sauce or aioli. It was simple. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised! The flavor was very good! We also had the calamari as an appetizer. It was good, especially the pieces that were from the body of the squid. Some of the tentacles were over breaded and tasted like there wasn't any squid in it, just deep fried crumbles. My husband's side salad came last. It was a caesar salad without any caesar because they were out. Parking was terrible. Service was slow. They're new so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. My family and I have been happy customers at Old Beach Tavern for several years now. Recently, we held a retirement party for my dad at Old Beach Tavern, and the experience could not have been more outstanding! Owner Zach Davis provided absolutely excellent service throughout the entire process--from our initial meeting to discuss catering, pricing, and smaller details to the end of our event. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. Alonzo, the head chef, created a fantastic spread that was customized to what we wanted. The amount of food was perfect for our party size, and the quality was simply top-notch. Both of these gentlemen should be commended to the highest degree for their professionalism and great attitudes during the planning stages of our retirement party. On the night of the party, the staff bent over backwards to ensure that everything went off perfectly. From the bartender to the help in the kitchen, I can't say enough great things about everyone at Old Beach Tavern. The food is awesome, reasonably priced, and very filling. The venue itself is perfect for holding events--it is spacious and very well designed with a raised stage for presenting, live music, or any number of activities. If you're looking for a venue to host an event or simply a casual restaurant/bar to grab a bite, Old Beach Tavern is second-to-none in all aspects. I hate that due to COVID it took us this long to check out this AMAZING place. Its so rustic inside and we love the customer service. The menu is a bit shorted due to COVID but everything on looked so good we had a hard time choosing, but we did the fried cheese curd with a very thick hearty marinara sauce, then a BBQ Burger which was cooked to a perfect medium and the chargrill flavor was on point! The house salad with grilled chicken was HUGE but everything was fresh and I would ordered it again. Some other items on the menu are going to drive us back for so more tasty meals. read more

This was perhaps the worst eating experience we have had in the last decade. I consider myself a fish and chips expert, and we chose Old Beach based on a recommendation. Yikes! The fish was disgusting. As soon as it arrived, our entire eating area smelled like a dock with that foul fish smell. The fish in fish and chips should NOT smell like that. I plunged in and took a bite regardless, and that foul dock smell came through in the taste. Who cooks fish and chips with skin on?? I also feel like they haven't cleaned their grease in a month because the chicken we got also tasted like rotting fish. The fish skin was black and soggy and made the taste even worse. My wife and I went there tonight we had a couple beers and split a martini. We ordered she crab cup which is around $10 a cup...it had no crab meat and was over season with Old Bay. We ordered a simple fried shrimp appetizer which was served with a overspiced Mayo based sauce. My cheeseburger was ordered medium rare specifically. In the end I got a well done cheeseburger, a no crab meat she crab soup and over old bay seasoned. The bartender was professional and polite and efficient. Been here multiple times and if you aren't one of the crowd you are ignored. Today was the last straw have watched the parking lot (not user friendly) become less and less crowded. Save yourself done in 4-6 months is my prediction. Came in me and another guy at the bar the bar person (Dave I believe) said be right with you. 10 mins later he realizes I'm still here. Order wing all drums and I got all drums (really the reason for the 1 not zero) and coleslaw side. Again he disappears for 10 mins and I get to enjoy my wings only because I don't have tools (silverware) to eat my coleslaw. The worst part of this is this place is within walking distance to my house but frankly since the place opened it's sucked. read more

Take two: it's a Friday night. They have live music. So that is already a plus. Waiter was timely and got everything correct. Ordered a house salad and decided to try the house chili. We sampled the macaroni but both felt like it tasted like burnt popcorn. So glad I didn't pull the trigger on that. Decided to do the oysters rockafella..disappointment. (I'll act surprised) Honestly, best place we've ever had them is seaside raw-bar and haven't had better yet. He got wings (twelve) buffalo and parmesan said they weren't as good as last time. So basically it was a good try. Might come back for the live music and maybe a coffee but I doubt I will spend more than a cup of coffee's worth of money here again. Decided to give this place a try. Pro: 1.Booth seating is comfortable. 2.Table tops are nice and clean. 3. Server was friendly. 4. Seated quickly. 5. Chicken wings had a very good taste and were well cooked. 6. Was very disappointed in their brunch. I ordered a basic eggs Benedict which came to the table with the eggs poached hard and the hollandaise separated as if it had been reheated. the waitress recognized that the eggs were not done correctly and went to replace them for me.... got the replacement t poached eggs that appeared to be cooked perfectly but no hollandaise.... ask for hollandaise to go on my now room temp / cold muffins and ham.... was brought refrigerated hollandaise. yuck! I've been here a few times for lunch or drinks and it's awesome! but Brunch! run and hide!! so bad! they did take the meal off my bill because I didn't eat it, so thank you for doing the right thing. Came here for a quick bite to eat late afternoon. Large place and could see it being a fun place for live music and late night drinks. Service was fast but our server wasn't able to give us any suggestions when we asked her about the menu. She clearly did not want to be working and was very short with us and seemed to mock the way we talked. We started off with two appetizers. The classic crab dip and the tavern chips. The chips were awesome, especially with beer cheese. However, not the same with the crab dip. Terribly bland with no flavor... highly do not recommend. We then ordered buffalo wrap ( rate it 6/10) with side of Mac & cheese (1/10) Shrimp tacos were subpar The bbq sandwich was a 8/10. Recommend extra BBQ sauce on the side. We didn't receive good service from our waitress and had to look around the restaurant for someone to come check on us. To begin, I support any and all locally owned and operated. I'm glad to see business's that do the same. So let's start with the pros: great atmosphere, came to hear Lewis McGeHee and was not disappointed. The 1st beer was cold. Sauce on the steak tacos had a great flavor. The Beignets was the 2nd best, behind Lewis. However the cons: it took too long to have our order taken. 13+ minutes just to order drinks. 25+ minutes to order food. Waitress claimed the hostess sitted her entire section at once. The bathrooms are clean. I ordered the steak tacos with mac-n-cheese. Looked good however the mac-n-cheese was cold. The steak was full of gristle and hard to chew. (Highly disappointed). Couldn't eat the third one. The 2nd/3rd beers were served in plastic cups, which was disappointing. Beer in this type of place with these prices deserve a glass. (Its like accepting coffee in a styrofoam cup at a restaruant when you're staying to eat.) Been wanting to try this place since they opened since it's so close but kept forgetting about them when it was time to decide on a place. I've been noticing some of the bad reviews on yelp but there are lots of "I want to speak to your manager" type folks around here (aka "Karen"), so I ignored them and gave them a shot tonight. Was around 7 or 8 on a Sunday (St. Patties day). Bar was somewhat active but not so crazy it'd ruin dinner. Was able to hold a conversation at normal speaking volume. Like how everything looks on the inside. Good layout. Only critique would be the windows in front aren't covered at all, so when cars pull up or leave you might get headlights shining at you, which is weird but not a big deal. I'd black-out the lower half of the windows or something if it was my place. Service was good. Was in the mood for a burger so I just got the tavern burger. Good quality, tasted good. Fries were thick and crispy (good). Also tried the old bay wings - good. Overall above average experience. Stayed for an extra drink after the meal because we were enjoying ourselves and the atmosphere was comfortable. Look forward to coming back and trying one of the entrees. I went to this bar with friends to hear a local band perform. Good food and great service by waiters. I would not suggest this place for conversation over a meal if a band is playing. You come to Old Beach Tavern to hang for a considerable amount of time, enjoy the drinks, and see people from the neighborhood. Old Beach Tavern is conveniently located at the entrance to Little Neck and there are many friendly faces from the neighborhood here. The food has been very good (when it's eventually served) since they opened. The menu has changed quite a few times so you don't always know what you'll get when you go in. The service is always friendly and the drinks come in a timely manner. The kitchen always seems to be backed up. We love OBT when we aren't in a rush, want good food and drinks, and want to stay close to home. read more

A really short story. Pulled in the parking lot, no spaces. Spots are angled one way, so maneuvering around is next to impossible in a 4runner. Parked at the bank next door and walked over. Entered and was sat immediately. Very limited food and drink menu. Lacked character and variety IMO. We basically walked in and back out..... I went there yesterday for the first time and was pleasantly surprised when I found out it was restaurant week. My waitress was Kristen and she was so excited when I ordered the fried rockfish tacos, she said you won't be disappointed and I wasn't. Arrrived and it was a busy night with bands playing all day. Tried to make reservations and could not so came any way. Staff was amazing and seated us outside. Heather the manager was amazing and our server Sierra was conscientious and very attentive. She seated us outside due to no seating inside but kept us up to date on available seating and got us a table in about a half hour. The service and attention was phenomenal and i would highly recommend these servers and managers. This is a well run establishment and I would recommend Old Beach Tavern for a great experience. The menu is a bit pricey but the employees were kind and the food is quality so I didn't mind paying. I ordered the crab dip and a side salad. We weren't sure if we would recommend this place to others, mixed feelings. The food tasted good, good sized servings. House Chardonnay was good. The service was strange, we ordered an appetizer, and had about 4 bites and our salad and main dish was served. We had all this food at the same time! Went tonight for dinner because I have been wanting to check out a new and local business. The service and the beer cheese dip stood out the best. Our server was great and the beer cheese amazing. Ordered pretzel bites to start - cheese was superb, but the pretzels were crispy, almost burnt and left in the oven too long. We were hungry and they were $2 off with HH so we didn't want to complain. You get a lot of cheese but not a lot of pretzels to dip. My bf used the leftovers for his fish tacos to give them a little more flavor. I got a house salad which was fresh and had a nice array of lettuce and veggies. Ordered it with blue cheese which was so thick it wouldn't come out of the ramekin, even flipping it upside down. I asked for ranch and it was also too thick and pretty bland. We weren't too disappointed and will give it another shot since it's new. I do want to come back for the wings. I have heard some negative backlash from friends from local adult kickball teams who came in a couple times...negative news travels fast...but I had to form my own opinion. Meh. I'm guessing they need more folks in the kitchen or more experience in the chefs side of the house. For small "sandwiches" they only had 2 options. Seafood (crabcake I think) and some jalapeño burger,so if you can't have seafood and can't tolerate peppers you're out of luck. Rest of the menu appeared largely unappetizing. After looking over the menu for 15 min or so my date and I decided to leave a small tip for the ice water we were brought and just leave. When I asked the waitress about it she said that is the amount they were told to put in. When I asked if it came with a piece of bread she said that they did not even have any. I used to be an employee here. I can tell you that the staff is not only disorganized, but ruthless to its employees. I was not treated with respect, even when I was putting in my best effort and staying long hours. The food is dry and bland, they also say they "buy local". But me and my friend saw boxes of food when they first opened, and they have stuff from all over the country. I cannot shake the time I was doing dishes, and the boss came over, and picked up a metal container. Then he wiped his finger to reach out one crumb, and slowly walked up to me and proceeded to wipe it on my chest. He angrily said "This is dirty, rewash it." read more
