Known best for its local bands. It's a wanna be restaurant serving hot but mediocre food that is prepared by short order cooks. The fried food was cooked in old oil and was not visually appealing. The acoustics are poor but the rest of the ambience is good. They offer valet parking which is useless because they shut down services as soon as they run out of front parking services instead of using available rear parking. I guess this is so that the valet Parkers won't have to go far to get your car. Go for the good music but don't expect to get good food unless that is what you are used to. read more

For a new restaurant, they had their stuff together (opened 6/22). We went last night (June 27th) and it was good. We just ate off the appetizer menu because they are half off during happy hour! I am thrilled to see such a cool place open up in this area. The atmosphere is open and fun. The restaurant tables surround a huge center "U" bar with tvs above the bar airing sporting events. The finishes are exposed brick, exposed ceiling and warm woods complemented by warm lighting. I went for lunch at the grand opening and went back last night with my family. I love the fact that everything that can be, is locally sourced. Our server Molly was super friendly and attentive. My wife and I ordered the scallops ... I with broccoli and potatoes and she with potatoes and zucchini. The scallops were perfect. They had a very tasty sauce that complemented the scallops naturally delicious flavor and were cooked perfectly. The veggies were also cooked perfectly. We finished the meal with a shared piece of chocolate cake. Also very good. I read some reviews below and on the parking specifically, we had no problem finding a spot and the place was packed. There are parking spots in the center of the parking lot which weren't being used at all. Compared to going up the street to Town Center and finding a "garage" spot and hiking to the restaurant, this is WAY EASIER. All said, I think that Old Beach Tavern is great. It's a unique place with great atmosphere, good pricing, tasty, locally-sourced food. I highly recommend. read more

My wife and I have met friends here 3 times to have dinner and listen to a band on a Friday or Saturday. The food is good, the service is friendly and prompt. Unfortunately 2 out of the 3 times the music was just too.loud. Tonight we had to leave right after eating because it was just intollerable. I know what your thinking ...older people right? I have no idea what I was expecting. They advertised live music, good beer, and good food. The atmosphere was awesome. Very alive and upbeat. The wait staff very friendly. Social distancing, not a chance. Wait staff wearing masks? Sure, on their chin. The service, subpar. They forgot multiple items. The beer was apparently good, but I'm a wine head and they only have bottom shelf swill. The food? It was by far the worst food I've ever had. My boys had burgers and they are teenagers, they love burgers. Not this time. My wife and I had crab cakes. These were not good in the least. Very cakey. I had the she crab soup that was supposedly made on site. Not very good at all. My wife did comment that the salad wedges and celery was good. I suppose you can't mess up straight produce. The music? Not anyone's fault, I'm an EDM person so country music is not my thing. All in all a horrible dinner choice. But if you like beer and music, this place has all the right stuff. Had dinner here earlier this evening and I must say that my expectations were not very high when I saw Oysters Rockefeller on the menu...especially for $12.99. We recently went to OBT to see our favorite band on a Friday night. We got there before 7pm.; ordered dinner and a glass of wine. The first disappointment was the cook over cooked my sweet potato fries and my friends nacho's was loaded with salt so she sent them back. Secondly, it was over 7pm now and I ordered another glass of wine. The waiter took my wine glass away and came back with wine in a plastic cup. Not happy with that. I asked for a wine glass and he said he couldn't give out wine glasses after 7. I then called the manager over. A young guy not really interested in listening to an older "woman". I asked him why. His response was it's the rules. I explained that I am a mature women and assured him I wasn't going to through the glass. No deal. My beef is that they serve beer in a glass bottle and that gets handed out; so what is the difference. They just couldn't satisfy one person. That put me in a bad mood. The food was mediocre. I will not give them my business again. That explains why the restaurant was only 1/4 full! Couldn't dance on the floor either as my shoes literally stuck! read more

I've been here four times. Good food, good atmosphere and convenient. However, I'm amazed at how bad the service is here. Waitstaff have no sense of urgency and they are just slow and unresponsive. I'm sure they will read this and just blow it off. But if they want to be a top notch place to go (and for us to spend $$ there), they will start heeding some of these earning signs. This is a good location for a neighborhood bar/grill. It features fresh flounder sandwiches very well cooked and designed. French fries are also excellent. Service is slow, but this is probably because items are freshly cooked to order. I would say the restaurant is probably priced $1-$2 above value. Overall this proprietor would do well to add a shrimp and/or fish and chips 'basket,'reasonably priced as daily specials. Would be a great addition. Parking is more than adequate and convenient. Currently at dinner. The time between apps and dinner is something that needs a lot of work, also the timing of bringing apps and dinner out at the same time definitely needs work. Getting apps and dinner after the rest of your party is half way thru is just plain ridiculous. Steak was not cooked to a medium it was more rare, the onion rings were burnt and the rice pilaf was cold ‍. They do not have a mixed drink menu any longer or so were told. Had dinner there last night with friends. Went in about 8 PM. Very nicely done large restaurant, nice ambience. Lots of people eating. However, the music was SO loud in the restaurant you could not talk across the table. The food however was delicious I had a hamburger and friends had chicken. Both were absolutely delicious tasting. However, we could hardly wait to leave after we finished eating because the music was so Very, Very loud. We will never go there again when they have music. We thought we would give them a try as they are one of the only non-chain restaurants between Hilltop and Town Center. When we arrived we were told that the kitchen was running behind and the wait would be about 30-40 min. We took the chance and agreed to stay and have cocktails. The beer menu had a good selection. The cocktail menu was more limited. The dinner menu was disappointing. The selection of gluten-free options was nonexistent. All of the tacos came on flour tortillas. Sorry, they should offer corn. I did order the veggie burger without the bun. But it was not worth waiting 50 minutes to be delivered. The house salad was ok, the dressing too thick. I'm also taking points off for ambiance. Way too loud, the room is designed to amplify all sound. Of course the very noisy party next to us didn't help. The waiter was professional. Will I be back? No. A place that can't handle Friday night, has mediocre food, has very little that I can eat and makes me wait an hour for it is one and done. read more

My family and I visited on a busier Saturday night but there was no wait. Live music and everything! Food was good, service not so much. Our apps and drinks came out quickly and the wings were delicious but our waiter forgot plates. We ate our wings hovered over napkins. Burgers were cooked perfectly for the medium and the medium rare. Seared tuna was phenomenal and the Philly cheesesteaks was packed. Overall good dinner, might have got the new waiter. read more

This is become one of our Friday night Staples. If you can get past the somewhat weird parking situation that is somewhat tight and cumbersome, you'll be greeted by a restaurant that has many strengths: live music on Friday nights by talented musicians, a bar area that nearly takes up the whole entirety of the restaurant kind of making it seem like some old timey, medieval tavern, that has delicious items on their menu with great drink specials. They're happy hour runs till 7:00 p.m. and they're draft beer specials are both domestic and craft friendly parentheses they have alcohol on tap parentheses. Got in a few items The past few times we've been here but some of the ones that really stand out are the boneless chicken wings that are fresh and made to order doused in delicious sauces, their burgers, and their crab mac and cheese {parentheses} trust me he want to order the crab mac and cheese {parentheses}. A friend of mine was visiting from Portland and was only in town for a day, so we had to meet for lunch. Since I was working, and have been dying to try this place out, I had him meet me here. First off, the place is beautiful, comfortable and a great spot to meet a favorite friend for lunch. Our server, I believe her name was Mary, was very helpful and informative. She filled us in on the use of local product. Both in food and decor. I love supporting local businesses, and especially like when local businesses support other local businesses. We decided to try the BLT. Soooo good. Lots and lots and lots of bacon for all the bacon lovers out there, nice red tomatoes and perfectly toasted bread. Did I mention it is huge? I left with half a sandwich! My friend was craving wings, and of course, I stole one of his. Nice plump wings with a just enough heat in the sauce. And we split the Tavern Chips, which according to this Bleu Cheese lover were out of this world. You could seriously make a meal out of them. Looking forward to stopping in one evening for drinks or again for lunch with my teen. This was our first visit since reading a review several months ago, and were happy to try it out. We were greeted at the door by super pleasant Kristen, who escorted us to our comfy booth, and then became our wonderful server. She told us lots about the place, in the old carpet building in the same lot as Duck Donuts, and was proud of their local commitment to building and cooking with local resources. The restaurant is large, with nice lighting. The bricks are real in the walls and columns, from Hampton. The booths are reportedly made from local wood and the cushions with some stuff that gives them comfort and durability. The bar is very large and has a greenish blue lighting under the ledge, with three large sides, and 9 TV screens against the back ceiling, however at lunch Tuesday there was pleasant music. Kristen was proud of their experienced local chef, and his willingness to adapt orders, so I got a chicken cheesesteak sandwich with my onions and peppers not cooked, and melted provolone. The vegetable of the day was asparagus with crumbled bacon and grated parmesan, all yummy, and the toasted sandwich rolls also good. My husband enjoyed his Philly Cheesesteak, and his sister said her crabcakes sandwich was very good. We were enjoying our lunches when their Chef John Floyd came to the table to ask what we thought, and we were happy to tell him we were pleased. As their theme is Old Beach, I think they may be looking at getting some black and white vintage Virginia Beach prints for their walls, and I think those would brighten up the bricks and solidify the theme, so I recommended local Tim Rudziensky's work with vintage VB prints. I can imagine the high ceilings may cause more noise when Old Beach Tavern is full, but there was no problem at lunch time. And everyone there was happy to please us! read more

Just had lunch there today with a fairly medium large group. Waitress was somewhat nice. Nicer to the men than to the females i noticed. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with a side house salad and baby baked potatos. The crab cake was kind of bland could use flavor it came with no condiments. The house salad was good, other than the ranch dressing being way to thick. The waitress didnt even bring put my potatos, so when i asked for them and finally brought them out, they didn't have the parmesan cheese on them or the side of sour cream i asked for. Some of the people in my party are dissatified as well. It wasnt a very good experince for some us. The sad part is it wasnt busy in there and most of the wait staff was just standing around not doing anything. My other friends may be back for certain reasons, but I don't think I will be returning or recommending. read more

This has been an unanticipated and pleasant surprise! After driving by (and not stopping), a group of which I am a member changed our meeting place to Old Beach Tavern. It was OK. That was fairly was nice for a sports bar very clean since it's all new however food was only so-so kind a greasy on the chicken nachos which were not chicken breast. They were just chicken scraps and the service was a bit slow. we went out on Sunday afternoon during football season expecting it to be crowded however it was not and the service was slow. Yeah well I wouldn't waste my time here. The drinks are incredibly weak.... in fact so weak my partner started ordering doubles. I'm not going to pay $16 just to get a decent pour. We are locals and at the oceanfront, we don't have to worry about a decent pour. it was just ridiculous. Now for the food, we ordered the nachos. I can make better nachos than what I had here. There was no layering.... there were chips on a plate with a blob of tasteless chili and watered down cheese with what was supposed to be pico de gallo which turned out to be just chopped tomatoes on the side of a plate along with a handful of jalapenos. The band was great but other than that, I probably would not return. Yes the parking lot is a challenge if you have a nice car don't even bother... take Lyft. 2nd time here. Came back for the jerk wings, nachos and variety of booze. However, only 1 of these still exist on the menu, and that cost you guys a star. The jerk wings weren't even really jerk wings, but they were delicious! They came recommended by our waitress the first time we were here, weird that they aren't on the menu anymore. I wanted to booze and eat wings. These wings: Garlic parmesan, teriyaki, sweet-chilli, and mango(probably really pineapple) habanero are good... But they don't touch the level of deliciousness that your jerk (but not really jerk) wings were. The Tarnished Truth Rye Whiskey was amazing, and they have a great selection of booze to include the rare and elusive Miller light in a bottle. read more

We came here for the first time and had the garlic parmesan chicken wings for an appetizer. They were great! They were cooked well and the garlic wasn't overpowering like it is in most cases. For entrees, we had the CHB burger and crab cake sandwich. Like one of the other reviewers said, the crab cake was small in comparison to the buns, but it was filling and very well seasoned/tasty. The burger was a standard cheese burger --not too juicy. Overall, the ambience was great! We loved the vibe it had and the service was phenomenal.
