Tried this on a recommendation from the owner of a cabin we were renting for the week. It did not disappoint. We were able to try 10 free samplings of moonshine. I have to say my favorites were the oatmeal cookie (sounds weird but was my fav), vanilla and key lime. We also tried their 6 different kinds of cream moonshine. All were excellent especially the peanut butter and coconut (I love anything coconut). We didn't buy any as I felt they were quite pricey. If they would knock the price down maybe $5 per jar, I feel like we would have probably bought 5-6 easily but you're in a touristy environment so sometimes people get caught up in the moment. read more

Fun place to go while waiting for dinner at the old mill. They had generous tastings: 10 small tastes of a variety of moonshines. All but the first very sweet and small adds up to about 3-4 shots. Worth the tip you are requested to give. I enjoyed the coffee and maple syrup mixed together: breakfast in a sip! Four or us visited the Old forge Distillery today. We were all very impressed with the overwhelming friendliness demonstrated by the employees. They provided free "moonshine" infused cake as well as free samples of their Cream drinks and moonshines. The sampling worked...we bought 6 bottle just to get one free. Old Forge has some smooth moonshine and more flavors than others that I had been too in the area. The bar tenders were friendly, but very rushed. It was probably a slower day for them when I went, but they were still so busy. The shop has everything you could want relating to their product. This is my favorite distillery in the area. I really wish that I could remember the bartenders name the afternoon we were there because she was wonderful. She even got my boyfriend's mom to try a couple sips and she never drinks. I left with a bottle of vanilla moonshine. It was between that or the oatmeal cookie. We had a blast at the distillery. The bartender gave us something I swear tasted just like a caramel apple. He was funny & entertaining. We had no intention of buying anything and well... we ended up with a jar and plan on going back to buy 2more before we leave. The irony is, we normally do not drink. Being a Kentucky guy I'm kinda spoiled with bourbons. Their bourbon is actually fairly good despite the lower proof (unfortunately I forgot to write down the tasting notes). Worth a try if you're in Pigeon Forge. Moonshine tasting is free but bourbon tasting is $2 per shot (kind of a bummer) but I got a "Old Forge Distillery" poker chip to keep, so okay. This was a much superior distillery to one we visited in Gatlinburg. More personalized and much better moonshine. They have an awesome selection that's really creative, and I highly recommend the Oatmeal Cookie! My sister and I ended up buying that one, couldn't help ourselves. My only negative is that the amount of samples we could have was not explained super well. You only get a certain amount, but the tasting has more than you can have. Old Forge Distillery makes their own Hand Forge Moonshine. Typically, they have several varieties with a few that are flavored. I purchased the straight corn moonshine and a blackberry flavored moonshine. They have a 15 minute show that allows you to taste 4 of the types of moonshine. Do the show to determine the ones you like. I think they alternate the flavors at times. They had a French Toast and Coffee flavored when I was there as well. read more

Compared to the other distilleries in the area, I believe Old Forge to be the most professional. I care a lot about first impressions, and I believe that the way your employees present themselves can either reflect positively or negatively on your business. I refused to financially support places like "Sugarland's" in Gatlinburg. I didn't come to hear trash talk and the f-bomb. And I definitely don't drink to get drunk, as it seemed most of their employees were. I came to test your product. OLD FORGE was clean, professional and they seem to have a very knowledgeable staff. And I love that they make all their product right on site. I appreciate being taken seriously and not being insulted, or being forced to listen to dirty jokes. We wanted to try the moonshine tasting that was the talk of the town. We happened to stop in the area and saw this place. They offered a friendly taste master who explained each type of moonshine before letting you sample. There were quite a few small samples, but you could pick and choose which ones you would drink. I am not a big drinker of moonshine, but we were on vacation, so I thought, what the heck?! While we were there we got to sample 8 different moonshine flavors. The coffee flavor was really good, which was unexpected! I also liked the peach, yum! On that particular day, we were also able to sample the creams they had available, which were all pretty good. The coconut and vanilla were my favorites, root beer float was right behind that. We also had a sample of their mango habanero margarita, which was also good! Excellent moonshine! A fun atmosphere with excellent bartending. Make sure you partake in the tasting. Flavors include the basic moonshine, to the more popular flavors of coffee, chocolate, vanilla. I loved the blackberry, the apple pie, the peach and pumpkin roll, which is my personal favorite. Lemonade is available for the kids and as a mixer which goes very well. I am not one to complain about the prospect too receiving free alcohol. However we love the moonshine here and Keener the distiller. He has always been so nice to me. I feel it is important that this business know that you have lost a customer. While patiently waiting 10 to 15 minutes to try the new flavors at the bar we finally get up there and the bartender is scanning ID'S. Not a big deal my wife simply asked if scanning the ID would retain any information for soliciting purposes. The Male tall bearded bartender barked no and of you dont like that its everywhere in this town. If you dont like that dont be here. Then he left to go down the line. We had several things we were going to buy over 180 dollars worth. We put down all of it and left. How disrespectful. It was our anniversary totally killed the day. Samples we tried: 1830 ORIGINAL Distiller's Blend, Blackberry, Peach, Lemon, Cinnamon and Coffee. All were very tasty, although I think the original distiller's blend put some hair on my chest...I'm a chick...not good. Bought the Coffee flavor as a present for a friend and got out quick.
