This is probably the third time we have been to Old Forge and have enjoyed it every time. Typically, we do the moonshine tastings and run tastings, and then head to dinner. This time we decided to do the rum tastings and then try Bloody Marys at the bar. The rum tastings were delicious as always, but we really enjoyed the Bloody Marys. It is a really great process as each one is personalized by choosing which rim, liquor, and vegetable topping you want. Each of the three of us got a different rim and vegetable, and we all loved them. I have never had a Bloody Mary with minced garlic in it before, and it was delicious. We even bought a bottle of the mix from the gift shop. Our bartenders for the rum tastings and the bar were great, friendly, and generous with everything. It's a super fun atmosphere, without anyone being obnoxious or causing any problems. We can't wait to come back. read more

First time in Pigeon Forge and definitely not my last thanks to this fabulous distillery. We went to many distilleries in the 8 days we were out there and Old Forge was definitely my favorite. The woman behind the bar giving us the tasting was really great. She gave great descriptions and gave us tastings of a variety of things that ranged from moonshine (of course), to gin, to bourbon. My favorite was the grapefruit thyme moonshine. Mama Mia, was it good! So good I bought a bottle. Unfortunately it seems they will be discontinuing this selection of herb infused fruit infused moonshine. Also the 136 proof moonshine was not only strong, chest hair growing strong, but actually not too rough on the taste either. We ended up buying those two bottles, but they won't be our last. We came here back in 2017 and we really enjoyed our visit. They have a variety of moonshines available, but their best ones were their cream moonshines. We've had several of these over the years and the Peaches and Cream and Haystack are the best ones we've had. We definitely recommend coming here if you're in town! read more

Generous pours, up to 10 tastes. They have 5 clear shines all with a different flavor profile. I liked the corn. Only place I have been able to get white dog (140 proof) they call it backwoods cut. Comes straight from the still. Great for infusing fruit. They don't ship so you gotta get it while you are there. Of the flavored we liked the French toast and vanilla. All in all they have 27 flavors. The flavored shines are 60 proof and the original is 100 proof and the backwoods is 130+, my bottle was 140. read more

I think everyone can agree that the allure to old forge distillery is the free samples of moonshine. You can sample the regular variety or the cream styles, or both if you are so inclined. Unlike old smoky, you're not required to pay anything to do the tastings, but I'll tell ya; I personally didn't think these tasted as good, but you decide for yourself. I have been to a few moonshine distilleries in the area and this one had the best samples! I chuckled over the rules of no sharing and only 8 samples out of the 16 flavors! Because I totally wanted to share with my GF!!! The store is packed full of delightful libations and plenty of swag to sport! I bought a magnet and patch- yesssss they had patches! And was so close to buying the vanilla bean moonshine! I had already spent a lot locally and was having a hard time justifying the mason jar of liquid YUM! And that was just the moonshine- then they had rum samples too- I LOVE RUM! ugh~ tease me! Root beer was my fav from those creamy rum samples! And the boozy ice cream right there next to the rum- come ON! I like Old Forge Distillery. I think more than anything I liked their tasting room more than the actual sampling experience. Rob was a lot of fun and super enthusiastic. He made the tasting fun and engaging with his lively banter. I felt that the moonshine was good, but some of it didn't appeal to me. Price-wise, it was slightly more expensive than Old Smokey and Sugarland, but only by $2.99 per mason jar. They have a lot of varying flavors that suit any palette and they get creative with the flavors as well. The tasting room was a lot of fun and simple. I liked the decor and ambiance. The bartender was nice, but it bothered me that they can't accept tips on the card. I do not carry cash with me and felt terrible that I could not provide that. It should be considered so they can get paid as well. I'd imagine I am not the only one who has that. Located across the street from Old Mill restaurant, this is a good place to go kill time while you have an hour and a half wait for your table. Take it from someone who enjoyed getting a good buzz before dinner. Be mindful, I wouldn't go out of my way to bring kids here. I am crass and and the company is no different with patrons and the person running the moonshine show. I would recommend keeping it adult only or bringing kids who are younger and might not grasp the humor of the adults. I love this place! I came two years ago and it honestly gave me the great same experience! The moonshine taste testing is free which is against the norm and honestly it makes the whole setting more welcoming, our server this time was so sweet and amazing and informative she even went above and beyond to rushing through our tasting because we had reservations. (I can't remember our hostess name but the woman with light eyes and brown hair you were the bomb). With the tasting she was able to have my family all together but still made sure that we were distanced and we felt very safe and were careful. The moonshine itself was really good, I came to this distillery a few years ago and it hasn't changed and I mean that as the biggest compliment. I felt all happy memories and made new ones and the people were so sweet and helpful and made my experience all that more great. Old Forge Distillery was the first distillery I visited on my first trip to Gatlinburg and it was the first time I have had moonshine. Safe to say I didn't know what to expect. Upon arrival my friend and I squeezed in at the bar for a free moonshine tasting. The gentleman leading the tasting (I believe he was named Rob) had a fun personality, seemed very knowledge about the moonshine, and he was very enthusiastic about letting us try the samples. Rob had a bottle of moonshine in each hand and walked down the bar offering thimble sized samples. The first moonshine he offered tasted like pure alcohol. He had warned us it would be strong and he wasn't lying! At this point I was rethinking trying the rest of the tasting. I'm glad I stuck around! Everything after that tasted amazing. All the flavors were rich, didn't taste very alcohol and were delicious. My personal favorites were Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, French Toast, and the Coffee flavors. This is a small distillery located in the Old Mill District. They have a variety of moonshine but seem to specialize in flavored whiskeys. When we were there, they had two tasting stations, one with their typical whiskey flavors and one with their "cream" lines which are sweet concoctions with flavors like taffy, lemon creme pie, root beer, and cinnamon. My favorite part about this was that the tasting was free and they allow you to try every flavor. They have a variety of gift-like items for sale too and a small bar area. My drink wasn't heavy on the alcohol but tasted great. ($5-7.50 range) Great location! read more

I enjoyed the free moonshine tasting here. There was a coupon in one of the tourist booklets but apparently it's not required so don't waste your time. What I loved the most was that the woman helping us was actually making me tiny moonshine "cocktails" because I told her I preferred creamy or sweet moonshine. She mixed lemonade with peach moonshine, made something similar with grenadine, added some coffee creamer...everything was very palatable. I ended up purchasing Cola & Cherries because we've all seen moonshine cherries before but how often do you find them in Cola flavored moonshine?!? Tasty. They have a lot of other retail items also. I didn't see it while there, but at a package store I later found an Old Forge Root Beer Float that was made with a rum base. We visited the Old Forge Distillery and loved it. Whats not love about getting free samples of their delicious moonshine? This is not like drinking your neighbors mason jar of nasty corn grain that tastes like your drinking gasoline.. Many of these are delish.. They have around 16 different flavors and with an I'd showing you over 21 Brooklyn, the bartender will give a brief introduction to their spirits and offer you to sample 8 of them. They even mix in some lemonade to change up the flavor. My favorites were the oatmeal cookie, french toast, and vanilla bean. The oatmeal cookie moonshine is out of this world good.. Best alcohol shot I have ever had.. hands down.. no competition.. After trying Old Forge and many of the other distilleries in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg this one is my favorite. They offer their samples free of charge and the oatmeal cookie moonshine is the best. read more

My favorite of the 4 distilleries visited in this area. Tasting is similar to the others, though you can get vodka and rum in addition to 3 varieties of unflavored shine and several flavored shines. For $2 you can get a poker chip and a 1 ounce taste of their 8 year old bourbon, which the selected and bottled from casks distilled by George Dickel. They have a working still inside the store and I enjoyed spending 20 minutes talking to the head distiller Keenan. He was very generous and delayed his lunch talking to us. Their merchandise is cool, including pottery from the Old Mill pottery and knives from the forge next door. We bought a $30 moonshine jug. And a copy of the documentary that made Popcorn Sutton and moonshine a mainstream phenomenon. read more

When you first get to Tennessee you know that you are by law required to try moonshine somewhere. It doesn't really matter where it takes place; as long as it happens. I'm pretty sure you get deported back to your own state if you violate said law. In the spirit of not violating the law I of course figured one of my first tastings of moonshine should be at Old Forge Distillery. It is a family owned place making the moonshine taste that much better. Many places have a requirement (I believe it depends on the county) that you have to pay for the tasting. Not here! With the tasting you get a total of 8 different flavors (6 different moonshines and 2 cocktails). Oh and by the way Amanda, our bartender for tastings was amazing. My tiny communion cup was almost never empty! When it comes to the flavors my top two were Banana's Foster and Oatmeal Cookie...definitely have to try those and maybe take home a bottle...or two...or 6. You know. How much of a loan do you need to take out to bring these delicious babies home?! After the tasting my wife and I found a rum cream tasting too. It also did not disappoint. My favorite was the Haystack which had coconut and chocolate in it. Can't wait to spike my coffee with this! The inside had merch and product prominently displayed and it could be difficult to find something only because the area was so large and so much to look at. There is also a bar in the area in case you need a drink while you shop but you can't take them off of the porch due to state law. Overall would highly recommend coming here to check trying genuine Tennessee moonshine off of your list so you don't get deported! read more

ok moonshine isn't my reg drink .. but let me explain .. i saved a year to take my 85 yr old mom anywhere and do anything she wanted for a week. She picks Gatlinburg Pigeon forge area .. so we get down here and she doesn't have anything in mind that sounds good. hmmm and EVERYTHING i try or suggest ... she hates like im inflicting something on her. grrr. So we did lot of moonshine tasting stops .. everytime she was rude to me or someone else .. or got on my nerves .. she did the moonshine. Frankly i was pissed .. my brother did nothing for her birthday and he was the one that got the gold star for calling the day after her birthday .. thats all he did. She was so rude and grouchy to me and random strangers .. it was just a train wreck. She didn't want to shop, hike, swim .. do a show ..helicopter ride. We did the ride up the mountain . thought she'd like that .. we get on the ski lift thing and are heading up only to find out she thinks it s terrifying vs lovely. so moonshine got me through it. read more
