I was recently invited here for a Group Breakfast & really enjoyed my breakfast of oatmeal, scrambled eggs. Although my friends had a few things from the menu & they all looked great. I had only been here a couple of times in the last few years but now may pick it more often. My scrambled eggs were delicious & another friend had a breakfast sandwich, plus one had a breakfast & they let her order one strip of bacon & one piece of sausage. It's nice to know that you can get what you truly want at a Restaurant these days. Some places have hard & fast rules where you don't know what you can order. My only complaint was that I couldn't get a Coke Zero but I understand smaller restaurants can't always have unlimited soft drinks like a chain restaurant does! Summary: Pleasant and polite service but very slow. Food was not worth the hour plus wait. Could have gone to Waffle House and had better food and gotten in and out of there in half the time. Earned stars for: Friendly staff, easy to find and park, good quantity for price, the bicuits were good, my mother's food was good, and coconut cream pie was gigantic. Lost stars for: Slower than the 9th inning of the 7th game of the World Series when you're down a run, and I could have gotten better food by ordering the same thing at Waffle House. Detailed notes: We had a veteran waitress who was knowledgeable about the menu. Everyone was nice and helpful. Got a table reasonably quickly since there was a line out the door. Alas, the place was understaffed for the rush, so it took over an hour to order and get our food. Waitress said the kitchen got behind. Definitely not the place if you're in a hurry. Appetizer biscuits were fluffy and delicious. Sweet tea was perfect. My mother was quite pleased with her quiche, fruit, and oven fried chicken breast. My medium rare sirloin was overcooked and practically unseasoned. My hashbrowns and eggs were meh. Plenty of butter and jelly options on the table. I didn't order it, but the coconut pie slice that walked by was HUGE! Probably 4 or 5 inches tall. It hurt my soul to see that the unappreciative person didn't eat all of it. This restaurant welcomes you right in to their heart and home. I love being greeted with a smile and served with one as well. The meatloaf is light and delicious. The chicken casserole is scrumptous and so is the fried okra I have to have with every visit. My friend likes the pintos and cabbage and orders those almost every time we dine in Old Fort. Took my mom out for breakfast and had only been here one other time so decided to try it. It was very clean, friendly prompt service and the food was good for a diner. Our only complaint was the temperature of the restaurant. It was freezing! The day outside was cold and windy, so having to eat a breakfast that got cold quickly was a bummer. Well worth stopping in! A wonderful selection! I chose the chicken casserole , potato salad and pinto beans. The casserole was simple and tasty . The potato salad was fresh and made there .... it tasted just like my mother's! I LOVED it! It was so nice to actually have a potato salad that DID NOT have waxy hard potatoes and a generic flavor of mustard . The pinto beans had a good flavor but needed to simmer longer . However, I did order them at 11:30am and they hadn't had time to become softened. My son ordered the catfish sandwich , and it was a nice size piece of cornmeal fried catfish. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The restaurant was clean and quaint . The food had the comfort of Granny's kitchen and I hated to leave . Good comfort food. I really enjoyed the meatloaf. For side dishes I had macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, mashed potatoes with brown gravy. Everything was good but I like the meatloaf the best. I saved a little room for dessert and had banana pudding. This isn't a fancy place but it feels like you're walking into someone's home when you sit down at the table. And I dare to say that this is the best chicken casserole I've had since I've moved to the South in 2009. Absolutely the best creamed corn I have ever had I would literally pay money to get the recipe. The pinto beans are to die for in the chow chow that comes with it is amazing. They always give you yeast rolls and corn bread at the beginning of the meal both are fantastic. The sides are also delicious it is so very difficult to always pick only three. Oh my God! That's what u say every time I take a bite of my food! Is soooo good you I'd slap anybody's mama!!!! Lol the service is friendly and very attentive. My husband and I ordered to go dinners Tues 9/4/19 . He ordered the hamburger steak and I had the chicken tenders plate . It was not very good at all . The fries that came with the dinner were dark brown and my chicken tenders were about the size of 2 and a half chicken nuggets from McDonalds . No bread was given to us and they use to do . And the price is getting higher for the quality of food they are serving . Kind of doubt we will be going back anytime soon . I really hate to offer a negative review, but unfortunately I received undercooked shrimp for an appetizer. They were cold and the shrimp was still translucent (meaning not cooked at all). And, they forgot to bring out the cornbread with the dinner. The manager did take the appetizer off my check, but I'd expect more when the kitchen royally messes up like they did. I ordered baked chicken, so perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that the chicken breast was really dry, but I was hoping for better. Not sure they will get another chance... read more

This is great southern food preparation. Friendly staff and beautiful decor with the owners placing pictures of their beautiful descendants on the wall. I didn't care for the Mac N Cheese, it was a little to watery for my taste. But they gladly brought me a side in replacement. The rolls and cornbreads are great, opt for one of each. read more

It was serendipity that daughter and I ran into this gem. We take a driving trip up north every summer and on the way back get off at the Athens-Decatur exit on I-75 between Knoxville and Chattanooga for lunch. This year we missed the exit, took the exit in Cleveland TN instead, and pulled into the Old Fort parking lot. We each ordered the chicken fried steak (brown gravy for me, white for her) and entered culinary heaven. In all my 65 years, make no bones about it, this was the runaway best by far chicken fried steak I've ever had. It was melt in your mouth tender and I don't understand why they provided a knife to cut it with. This place needs to enter their chicken fried steak into any and all national contests. Seriously. While I haven't eaten at this restaurant in some time, in the past the food had always been acceptable. Nothing fancy but at least edible. This morning I went for a quick simple meal. Sat for 8 minutes before I was acknowledged, never a good sign. When my food arrived, two pancakes and a side of country ham, it looked good enough. But then I attempted to cut into my pancakes. They were so tough, I had to use the steak knife provided with the ham. Chewing it was an altogether different issue. Two bites and I was finished. $11.96 for terrible food and weak coffee.
