I would have loved to be able to rate the actual quality of their coffee, but my girlfriend and I walked in 20 minutes before their close today and they said that they could only serve us pastries or cold brew. Nice breakfast spot. Food portions were a little small. We both had crepes. We were able to sit outside (they only have a few tables). The weather was decent so it wasn't too bad. My comments are directed to patrons , and I use that word loosely , who have decided small business owners owe them a workplace . For the price of a cup of coffee , or just consuming the courtesy ice water , freeloading folks avail themselves of the comforts and amenities for hours , sometimes all day. Wifi, heat, lighting, rent, upkeep, staff , and the space you loudly occupy all cost the business owner money . Somehow corporations have encouraged employees to shift the expense of hosting on site work into public and private space that is being paid for by someone else. And why should people who demand the flexibility and advantages of remote work ,actually work in their own dreary , lonely homespace when they can posture their diligence and proficiency to a public audience by simply snapping open their laptop as a mantle of priority ? Drop a few twenties , lower your voices, be respectfully aware you aren't the most important people in the room--- then the term patron will be more appropriate than freeloader. read more

Worst latte I have ever had. I don't know if the barista was untrained, but you should never have anybody making a latte who doesn't know how to do it. First things first, when you froth milk, you need to make it the consistency of shaving cream, no bubbles!! Micro foam takes skill to make. You don't want bubbles as bubbles equals painful gas and not a tasty latte. Secondly I ordered an extra shot of espresso, and I could tell the espresso was not made properly.. either it was not tamped properly or was not ground properly, but I could taste the bitterness of the coffee. I called in an order because the line can be so long. I was told there was a long line and the hold might be a couple minutes....no issue for me. So I was on hold for a few minutes, which was just putting the phone down on the counter, and I could hear employee (B) tell the employee that picked up the phone (A), to hang up the phone. Employee A said "No that would be rude, I can't do that". Employee B responded but again employee A said "No". Employee A came back to the phone, took my order, I expressed my kindness and appreciation, and was told 25 minutes. Drove down to pick up my order which was 1 sandwich and 1 coffee. Got in line, saw my coffee sitting on the counter. 15 minutes later reached the register to pay for my sandwich and cold coffee. I live within 1/2 mile and am there ordering in person at least once a week. I've had repeated issues there with one particular employee that has no business being in the "hospitality business" and a sandwich that included 3 tomato ends. The ends of tomatoes? I'm ok with 1....maybe even 2....but when all the tomatoes on your sandwich are literally end pieces? Another time.....chicken sandwich with chicken that was way past the time it should have been thrown in the trash. Dry biscuits, meh muffins. Although I will say the recently added pumpkin cookies are awesome! I'm a local. I know food but I've only written a negative review of 1 restaurant in my life...but I want this place to succeed, and I keep going back in the hopes that things improve. The environment is so welcoming! Coffee is amazing! Food is great! I love the crepes!!! I love how the staff is so friendly and makes it a point to get to know their customers and make sure we enjoy whatever it is were getting! They offer free Wi-Fi and is a great spot to work if you need to. Old Mill Cafe has done a phenomenal job with creating a coffee shop environment that caters to everyone! Friends, families, local entrepreneurs, local artists, singles, groups, all generations, extroverts, introverts, its just an overall amazing place with amazing people! I usually don't write reviews but I felt like my experience today warranted one. Today was my second time at this cafe as I recently moved to the Baltimore area. Definitely a super cool find. However, I was really surprised by the terrible service I received here. The cashier had nothing but frowns to offer. Maybe she didn't like my order or something? Because the customer in front of me and after me were definitely greeted with smiles and friendly conversation. Immersed in my work I accidentally overstepped my 1 hour time allowance for indoor seating and the same cashier confronted me and asked me to leave in a loud enough manner for the surrounding tables and customers to hear. I understand that a lot of this experience was my fault. I am known to lose track of the time once in front of my computer and it appeared to be a busy Sunday afternoon and i understand that with the pandemic all small businesses have been negatively affected. But idk, I guess I just was expecting better customer service? Also, just a suggestion, it would be awesome if y'all could maybe place notices on the tables stating the one hour limit. Hands down the best bakery in the area. I love this place! The pastry's are always fresh and made on site. There's a huge selection in the cases of both savory and sweet items, including gluten free options. I'm hooked on the bacon cheddar biscuit and the pop tarts. The coffee is really good. Got chocolate croissants from here that were delicious. It's been very difficult to find household staples in the grocery stores and Old Mill made it easy for us to get some of these things. We did curb side pick up for some yeast and the person who helped us dropped off our order in our trunk and was extremely nice. Quaint spot in historic Ellicott City with enough parking out front and signs to show you where they are as you approach. Inside is a cozy environment with enough space for several individuals and a few groups. WiFi. Service was prompt and cordial! I ordered a cappuccino and a medium roast black coffee. This is a really cute coffee shop near downtown Ellicott City. I came for a private event, and got an iced chai and it was delicious!! While there, I also tried the butterbeer latte. After all the recent hype and delicious-looking food pictures of Old Mill Cafe on Facebook, I was excited to try this place today. It was friend's birthday so this seemed like a really good opportunity. My friend has some dietary restrictions so we called ahead of time to confirm that they could accommodate this. Once they said they could, we said we would be right there and then arrived moments later (we were literally around the corner when we placed a call). After waiting a line for over 10 minutes, we reached the register at 2:39. When we did, we were told we could no longer order food because the restaurant closed at 3. We said we had just called and told the person on the phone that we were on our way. Exasperatedly, the person at the counter finally took our order of two sandwiches, a biscuit, chai tea, and water-after complaining about how short staff they were. She was incredibly rude and abrasive. This woman also told us we had to eat at the outside tables (even though there were four other tables with people sitting and eating inside) because they were closing in 20 minutes. When we got our food and took it outside, the staff had already put the outside chairs away so there was nowhere to sit. We then went back inside and decided to sit at one of the many tables in the front of the restaurant just to quickly shove food in our mouths. Although our sandwiches were good, the biscuit I ordered (which looked amazing) tasted like rubber (it was microwaved in front of me explaining why it was hot on the outside and cold on the inside). At 2:57, the same person who was so awful at the counter announced to the entire restaurant that they were closing the restaurant and all guests had to leave now. Two other tables commented about how unbelievably rude her tone and wording were. We were pushed out the door with the door abruptly locking behind us at 2:59. Although my sandwich was good, I never received the water I asked for twice and I threw out the biscuit. I know the world is short-staffed now and it is really important to be kind and patient right now but I will not be going back to this place. What a terrible taste it put in my mouth. I couldn't believe how horrible the staff were and how badly we were treated. It was my friend's birthday and I recommended this place so I just kept apologizing for what was happening. If a restaurant closes at 3, surely ordering a sandwich at 2:30 and eating it quickly should not be a problem. EDIT to the Review: I just spoke with the owner who was incredibly apologetic and is trying to make the situation right. Perhaps it was just a bad day for the restaurant? I hope so and look forward to giving them another chance. read more

Stopped in to meet a friend for coffee; this place was amazing!!! I ordered a small dark coffee and the Always Sunny Sandwich (minus the cheese). The cafe was a little crowded (though it was 11am on a Sunday) so we had to wait in line. Even though the staff was busy, they were extremely friendly and welcoming. We were fortunate to grab a table inside (they have some outside tables as well). My dark roast coffee was absolutely the best coffee I've had in quite some time - seriously. The coffee was so good that I bought a bag of French Roast beans to take home with me. My Always Sunny Sandwich: fried egg, tomato, spinach, and pesto on a toasted English muffin was delicious. I enjoyed a wonderful time chatting with my friend over great food and incredible coffee. We will definitely be coming back. Oh, and I can't wait to enjoy the great French Roast coffee in my French Press tomorrow morning. read more
