Honestly not too bad. They do take advantage of the fact that they are well known though, to be expected of a place that gets too big for its britches. The food shows up very fact, and meals are typically accurate. Service can be hit or miss, but that's everywhere. Food is your standard typical food, why I dropped it down to 4 stars at first. Gage was an amazing waiter and the food was fantastic! They were absolutely swamped and got us in within a reasonable amount of time.

We ate at the Old Mill Restaurant in February during the off season. The hostess was very put off by us not wanting to take a sleeping baby out of his stroller. She kept asking us to leave the stroller up front and just take the baby out. We refused several times before she finally seated us at a large round table we could tuck the stroller away at. No idea why it was such a big deal as it was not busy and she came up with a great spot to put us. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was wonderful! We went for breakfast and you are given complimentary orange juice and banana muffins with some of their jam. Very yummy! We all ordered the country breakfast and it was a lot of food! Eggs, grits, fried potatoes, biscuits, gravy and country ham. Oh and also pancakes! So much good food! Some of the items were brought family style like the grits and gravy but our waitress was quick to ask if we needed more. We didn't as there was so much food! Everything was fresh and hot which is very important for breakfast foods. We will definitely go again. Perhaps for dinner next time! read more

Very good, southern cooking. Similar to Cracker Barrel only better. We just googled top ten restaurants to go to and this was like in the top 5 so this is where we landed up at. The restaurant is located in the Old MIll area like its own little town. Its pretty big, rustic, and wooden. Food: superb, fresh, seasoned well, and arrived quickly. We had no wait time for a party of 2 and the area was nice and clean. The only thing that I think ppl can complain about is the set up of the menu. You have no options for side items. Each meal either comes with mash potatoes and green beans or french fries with burgers and sandwiches. But I had no problem with that, it's just limiting for those who like different side items. Food: you start off with a bowl of corn chowder and corn fritters (complimentary with all meals). It was really good too. I had never had corn chowder - it contained, ham, corn, diced red peppers and such. The corn fritters were nice and fresh and served with this interesting tasting butter ( it reminded my of syrup). That was a good way to start off the meal. Entree - I got the boneless pork chop and he got the smother steak. Both were delicious. You received 2 pieces of meat, and large servings of mash potatoes and green beans. Also, rolls to eat that with. Needless to say I was stuffed. The pork chop was well seasoned and not too salty, the green beans were excellent ( usually some ppl overload them with onions) and the mash potatoes had flavor before even adding butter. Both, he and I loved the meals and the large portion. I ended up taking over 1/2 of mine home. After eating I would suggest visiting all the old mill shops in the little town - pottery, ice cream, candy store, and they have a general store that has souvenirs, clothing for adults and babies, cups, preserves, and cooking items to make the dumplings, fritters, cornmeal and such. It was pretty nice in the general store. Also, there's the dam adjacent to the old mill and a little area where you can feed the ducks. read more

The service here was great, and punctual. I like this restaurant and how you get a full meal with your order (soup, meal, dessert). I give it 4 stars because the food was pretty good,but I expected it to be better. I had the fried catfish and my fiance had chicken and dumplings, I like her food better than mine but mine was still good. I'm just not into fried foods anymore I guess. if I was back in town I'd definitely go back to this restaurant without a doubt and try something different! read more

All the food is really good. They give you these wonderful banana nut muffins with a wonderful strawberry jam.We ordered a big country breakfast, it comes with 2eggs, 4 silver dollar pancakes, three meat trio, home fries, grits, and all the sausage gravy and biscuits you can eat. Everything tasted great fresh and home cooked. I'd eat every meal here if I could afford it. Speaking of affording it my meal was just $11. Our family of three ate for just $33. Our waiter was really nice he was just really busy. We had to wait pretty long for our food. He seemed to forget about filling the drinks. The food was well worth the wait.The sweet tea was better than others in that town claiming to be southern restaurants. This restaurant lures the people in just by sight. It is massive. It is lakeside and there us a huge water mill next to it. The little area is in is so cute. It's like a tiny little town all on its own. There's a distillery, creamery, pottery, shopping, winery, distillery, cafe and a bunch of other stuff. There's enough to keep the family busy for the day. We even watched the fireworks from Dollywood at closing. They also have a general store. This place was so cute. read more

Had heard a lot about this restaurant and decided to try it out on our visit to the Smokies! The location of this restaurant makes for an excellent spot for photography and there was essentially no wait time. We ordered the Vegetarian quiche and a Fried Chicken combo both of which came with a side salad, Corn fritters and a dessert! The portion sizes were huge and we ended up having a lot of food to-go. The quiche was much better as compared to the Fried Chicken (which is surprising, since it's a southern thing!!). Maybe the other menu options are good but we didn't get to try any of those as they all had pork, beef or seafood! The dessert was good though; we ordered the chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream both of which didn't disappoint! read more

We came on the 4th of July so it was obviously very busy. Overall it was ok but nothing to write home about. Water tasted like it was straight from the well which isn't my favorite. We came here because of the ratings, for a place filled of tourists traps this was supposed to be legitimately good food. Boy were we sadly mistaken. This place taste like CAFETERIA food, but priced like a mid level steak house and served with fake southern charm and decor. Cons: Actual food - will you walk away hungry? No. But will you walk away thinking you ate a lunch room cafeteria where the chef was terrified of seasoning? Yes. The pork chops, for example, where just the pork chops. That's it. No gravy or flavoring (and they needed it). Sides - most come with a pitiful salad, alright chowder (but small) and mashed potatoes with green beans. Both were alright, but come on. See the price below, do you like color on your plate when paying more? I do. Price - some dishes were appropriate but items like "$19.99 for Chicken Tenders" CHICKEN TENDERS is ridiculous. Yes, it comes with refillable sides. But the sides are JUST green beans and mashed potatoes (cheap sides, doesn't justify cost) a salad smaller than my hand and a tea cup sized cup of chowder for most meals. Menu - want variety? Don't come here. Don't want mashed potatoes but another kind? Don't come here Portions - terribly inconsistent. The pork chops, three decent sized pieces. The chicken and dumplings was barely 2 cups. Do not order. Dessert - this was alright. We got the cake and the pecan pie (comes with meal). Cake tasted EXACTLY like my high school cafeteria makes. Amazing experience. For two people the wait was 45 minutes at 2:30 on a Sunday. We spent our wait time walking around and checking out the general store and others that surround the restaurant. I am claiming my meal here the best one I've had all year. You start with the corn fritters and never look back. The menu boasts some classic and delicious Southern dishes and I selected the chicken pot pie and I'm still thinking about it after all this time. Each meal comes with all the sides of green beans and potatoes you could ask for and they'll even serve it to you family style with your group. AND dessert is included. The restaurant was very busy but we were seated quicker than the estimated time and the service was great. Everyone (including the somewhat picky 13 and 10 year olds) loved the food. The best meal we had while in Tennessee! We loved the fried chicken, corn chowder, corn fritters with maple butter, mashed potatoes and apples. We didn't care for the fried steak as it was really tough. The desserts were absolutely incredible- pecan pie and blackberry cobbler were equally delicious. Generally there is too much fat on a roast beef in a restaurant for my liking, not with this. It had a little fat on one end so it was easily avoidable. Reminds me of when I was a kid and we had family get togethers and ride horses. We always had a big breakfast. This was just like that, but no horse ride afterwards. Not that I needed it all and not that I ate it all...this is what you get for $9: banana nut muffins, orange juice, 4 flapjacks, fried potatoes (from night before baked potatoes), cheesy grits, two eggs your way, biscuits, gravy, bacon, and strawberry preserves. WOW! No seconds needed. Biscuits and gravy were my favorite, but everything I tasted was just like home...PERFECT! This is perfect time to come. No wait and Perfect weather. I'm surprised that the Old Mill is rated as high as it is. My wife had the meatloaf and said the quality of the meat was poor very grainy. The vegetables were ok, but the blackberry cobbler was not good at all. I had the turkey and dressing which was good, but way too much food. And I've had better chocolate cake.
