The fritters were so good, I was actually already full after them and the soup but..... I had the Country Chicken Salad for my entree. My wife and I were in Pigeon Forge for the Fourth of July and decided to try the Applewood Farmhouse Grill. I wanted to like the place a lot more than I did, but it had some serious drawbacks. This restaurant is set up like an old farmhouse with wooden chairs, tables, and floors. There is nothing to deaden the noise, so the place is very loud and uncomfortable. My wife couldn't wait to get out of the place. I ordered the smokehouse sampler which comes with two eggs, sugar cured ham, bacon, sausage, gravy, biscuit, grits, and potatoes. With all of that listing, you would expect a lot of food. It wasn't. I felt like there should have been more on my plate for that much money. Oh, well. Lesson learned. My wife had the biscuits and gravy with bacon which was fine. The food that we received was fine, but nothing special. Our server was nice, but she spoke so softly that I could not hear her over all of the noise. She also had to be prompted multiple times to bring a refill. All in all, this place was a real turn-em and burn-em kind of loud place that we probably won't return to. read more

The grill is part of a campus of Apple wood buildings: a creamery, a general store, a Christmas shop, etc. The grill itself, like the nearby restaurant, has a number of smaller rooms with about ten to twenty tables in each room. The grill, for what it's worth, is where you order individual plates; at the restaurant, you order your entree and then sides for the table to share. Menu is about the same for each. Some food items were great: namely, the entrees. Wings, chicken, and catfish were all terrific. The sides were so-so: the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes tasted like they came out of can. Not terrible, but not great. The fritters are delicious, as one might expect. Service was okay. Our server was quite quiet and not very talkative, but she got what we needed. The atmosphere is very southern, country-ish. Lots of rocking chairs outside to sit and talk about catching up on your meal. It's an enjoyable experience. Not the absolute best I've ever had, but it was a pleasant experience. It would especially be good if you have a large group who enjoys each other's company and isn't in any hurry. They give you a complimentary soup, some kind of apple fritter thingy and a mixed juice and all three were so good! Honestly the apple fritter thingys were the highlight of the entire meal. The food was very underwhelming. Got the fried chicken and it tasted so bland! No seasoning. Kids had the burgers which were cooked to perfection but once again no seasoning. Not even a pinch of salt! Had the buffalo wings and those were also meh! Chicken pot pie was tasteless so was the Alfredo side. Mashed potatoes were too salty. Fries were awesome! I love coming here because of the nostalgia. I started coming to the Apple Barn with my parents 30 years ago, and it brings back great memories. We came in for lunch with no wait. The Apple fritters and Apple Julep you receive when you first sit down are to die for! Definitely my favorite part. For the main meal, we really enjoyed the open-faced roast beef, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and cheese potato soup. Definitely try the soup!! The food was cold, way too greasy, and the cook was plain rude because he failed at his job and had to bring toppings for pancakes to the table. The cheese on the eggs were an afterthought; it was shredded cheese on eggs, not melted. The food was inedible due to the amount of grease. To start off, the ambience was great. The restaurant is not too loud, the wait staff was very pleasant to talk with, and the restrooms are very clean. The food was reasonably priced. Once you get the plate, though, the main portion of the meal is extremely small. If you look at the images, the sides are extremely large compared to the main dish. I was torn between two plates, the fried chicken or the country fried chicken steak. I went with the steak, but the flavor wasn't as good. The mash and macaroni were delicious, though. If I return, I'd try the fried chicken instead. My wife had the grilled chicken and corn and yams as a side. The chicken was not as flavorful as it looks. The corn tastes like the chain Church's chicken corn. The yam was delicious, though. All meals include a taste of apple related foods that they make in the large apple compound. You can see the apple orchards for yourself, as that's their main attraction. The free foods to taste included apple fritters, apple juice, and apple jam and a soup of the day. That's what makes the meal feel priced right. Overall, come for the experience, but I'm sure you can find better tasting food elsewhere. read more

The overall look of the restaurant was cozy. We ordered the country fried steak, loaded potato soup, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. We also ordered the trio, but replaced the chicken pot pie with another piece of fried chicken. The food was pretty good. The soup wasn't really loaded and the mac and cheese noodles were not cooked thoroughly. Although the parking lot was full, we were seated right away. The place is large but the multiple rooms keep a quaint ambiance. The apple fritters with apple butter were delicious and a great way to start the meal. Very light and fluffy on the inside and deep fried to perfection, the fritters were perfect with the delicious apple butter. For lunch we ordered their fried chicken. The potato soup starter was warm and creamy...very comforting on a cold day. The mashed potatoes were very fluffy while the fried okra was fried up golden. Now for the chicken. Colonel Sanders has NOTHING on this place. It had a light batter full of flavor and fried to a crunchy perfection. The flavor went all the way into the meat and wasn't just in the skin. The tea had the right amount of sweetness and went well with the rest of the meal. Our server Lindsay was quick to make sure we were taken care of throughout the meal. Accessibility is good with a ramp and bathroom large enough to accommodate a scooter or walker. It was a fabulous meal and we will definitely be back next time! read more

We came for lunch on a Saturday afternoon around 1 PM. The main road (near the outlet mall) is just crazy busy, and the parking lot for here was pretty full but we got seated pretty quickly. Our server, Dixie, was very efficient. Shortly after being seated they bring you small apple fritters and apple butter: they were delicious. The room was a bit loud (families with kids) and the wooden floors, and low ceiling, made it rather loud. The vegetable soup was well seasoned, not overly salty, and loaded with vegetables; it was hot and good. The collard greens are excellent (Dixie steered us to them); I loved the greens. We were also given mashed potatoes (that might have been in error but we ate them), which we enjoyed. The fried chicken was good but not great. A lot of reviews said a bit oily and not crispy; I would say that is still accurate. It wasn't bad chicken but I hoped for a bit more. The crispiness might be more preference , more than a mark of being well prepared, but I'd consider trying something else next time.
