I hate sports analogies, but here goes. Old Stone is a great football team, except they have no quarterback and no kicker. The remarks here about the service and atmosphere at Old Stone are true. It's a nice enough space, and the service is decent. Wine list is on the small side, but features many labels from the Paso Robles area with which I wasn't familiar. Our waiter wasn't rude or unfriendly, just kind of a young dude who doesn't know he works at a restaurant that's trying to be an upscale steakhouse. Decent wine, okay service, so far so good. I hate to say it, but the food came up well short. Though cooked to order, the porterhouse was flavorless, which is a feat when half the cut is filet mignon. Prime rib was also bland. Liberal dunking in the au jus gave it some life. I'll echo the sentiment that the clam chowder is ordinary. On a positive note, the side vegetables were cooked just right, not steam-blasted into mush like is so often the case with such things. Not sure why they have to be doused in cheese and butter though... Old Stone also serves a very nice vinaigrette dressing on the salad, which is fresh and tasty. The lobster tail was just plain undercooked. Lobster has some of the best natural flavor in the animal kingdom. It's pretty hard to screw up. This thing was cooked on the outside, but had a core of squishy, raw flesh. Raw lobster. So disappointing. The server was nonplussed when we mentioned this. Kind of like it wasn't the first time someone had complained. It did come off the bill with no hassle. So again, in football terms: -Solid blocking and tackling (wine list, salad, vegetables, atmosphere) -The kicker's misses are costing them easy points (so-so service) -The QB throws multiple INTs per game (flavorless or poorly cooked entrees) I am hard on the Old Stone because of what they seem to represent themselves as, and the prices they charge. At a tab of $80-100, dinner for two with a bottle of wine had better be good. But bad food is bad at any price. Sorry Old Stone, hope you get your act together. A good start would be to improve your relationship with your beef supplier. Right now, they are not bringing you the choice cuts. read more

We had a wonderful time here. We were able to get seated right away at around 6pm on a Saturday night. We had the breaded calamari as an appetizer and asked for the Thai chili dipping sauce to go with it and it was excellent. I also had the clam chowder to go with the fish and chips. The fish and clam chowder were both delicious and the fries were especially unique. They were lightly seasoned and we used the chili dip which made it a bit sweet and tangy. It was amazing. Their Cole slaw on the side was also superb. Our server was very friendly and attentive. A must visit when in Cambria! read more

The bathroom is what took this from a 3* to a 2* Maybe I just don't have the right sense of humor....but a full-length fun-house mirror in the women's bathroom...that triples the size of your thighs....and you have to watch yourself going to the bathroom? Really? I mean, really? The men's room had a mirror too, but your head was stretched out...okay, that's funny I guess. And according to my husband you didn't watch yourself pee.... Was visiting Hearst Castle and exploring the town of Cambria. It was 8pm on a Sunday night and not sure what my girlfriend and I would find for dinner. We were attracted to the old loge look of Stone Station and couldn't have been happier with our meal. They were fairly busy but quick to take care of us. We started off with the Clam Chowder and Salad. Both were excellant and a perfect start. Than we got the Shrimp Scampi and half rack of ribs which was the size of a full rack. Our waitress was super nice and always checking on how we were doing. The bread that was served was fresh out of the oven and refilled our lemonade and iced tea often. At the end of the meal we spoke with a woman who was the owner and got a history of William Randolph Hearst and of Cambria. Our experience was perfect and just the type of meal we were looking for!! read more

You should stop here on the way up or down CA Highway 1!!! I had the chowder which was "homemade" at the restaurant (You never know) and it was delicious!!! My daughter had the Station Burger and she enjoyed it, too. However, the best part of the meal was the warm, homemade apple pie wit h vanilla ice cream. We both loved the atmosphere. We sat outside on the patio, but the inside was decorated with old antiques. Very interesting and unique. The service was outstanding, too. Love this place. Driving down the coast to Morro Bay and needed a lunch stop. Came into this town and picked this place off the bat with no knowledge of this area. Salmon salad, burger, calamari and chips and clam chowder were what we ordered. If I wasn't already getting the calamari and chips I would have ordered the read bowl with the soup. Looked amazing! None of us were disappointed. The old cabin feel inside with the vintage signs, motors and fishing nets made the ambiance very relaxing and felt like a true seaside town. Def suggest coming here if you want fresh seafood and beef. read more

We had a great dinner at the Old Stone Station tonight. It was the recommendation from our hotel for steak/seafood and even better than expected! Decor is wooden with old fish pole and boat prop on the wall. There were was space for 20 people inside on the first floor. We did not go upstairs. The service was very good. The were very friendly and the recommended steaks were fabulous. We had the Prime Rib, Porterhouse and Top Sirloin. All of them were very good. We liked the very tasty clam chowder (which comes with the dinner) as well as the crab cakes. The owner must have heard that I was talking about the King Crab legs, which one of our neighbors had. He gave me some on the side of my Porterhouse and they were delicious, too. If one is looking for a nice steak or fish dinner I would highly recommend this place! read more

I drove by this place by accident while doing a road trip on PCH-1 two weeks ago. It's in a small town in Cambria. You can actually see the restaurant from the intersection. This was the only restaurant that appears to be decent from the look outside. It's not a very big place, there are some seatings on the second floor i presume but we were seated on the first floor (about 6x4 seat tables all together). Service was a bit on the slow side. (from what it appeared to me was most likely to be a family own business? son and daughter being waitress/waiter, wife takes ordering, etc?). They were very friendly. Food were good. Although we arrived around 7pm-ish and they already ran out of shrimps. I actually though the fun-house mirror in ladies room was kind of cute. A bit surprised about its location though at first. Had i gotten my shrimp scampi that night instead of their special Mahi Mahi for the night, i would've given this place a 4 stars. The Mahi Mahi that night didn't quite make it to my taste buds. read more

We came here to order a few entrees to go and planned to order a few drinks while we waited. We were chased out of the restaurant by a very rude server! We started to head to our car and thankfully headed back to ask for the manager. I was shocked when the sweetest lady I've ever met came out of the back and totally took care of us. Third time at the Station and not disappointed. We always eat well here. This time we stepped out and tried the ahi tuna stack made into a dinner. Wonderful salad with house made honey mustard dressing, amazing ahi stack of various complementary flavors and the best rice pilaf I've ever had. We also had fish and chips but I prefer it battered rather than breaded but the fries and tartar were top notch. Also, try their bread...it comes hot with soft butter on the side. My husband and I just love this place. We've tried other places in Cambria, but always end up back here. No restaurant can get everything to everyone's taste, but this one works for us. read more

We stumbled onto this spot after meeting one of the managers at a coffee place the day before. The service was good. The food was good. The restaurant was quiet and clean. We ordered the breaded calamari (recommended by our waitress as one of her favorites) lightly fried calamari steaks with a [slightly spicy] cocktail sauce. yummy. I had the Cajun salmon (spicy!) and a baked potato. While the boyfriend had the bacon wrapped prime rib with mashed potatos (which he loved) by the end we were too full for dessert. We found the first parking spot we could in Cambria, and fate smiled upon us by putting us right in front of this restaurant. We scanned the menu outside and it looked promising, so we went in and were quickly seated. Our waiter let us known that being Friday, Mexican food was the special of the day, and he recommended the carnitas. The plate came loaded with two large tacos, stuffed with carnitas and rice and beans on the side. I love carnitas, and have been disappointed in the past by dry, tasteless chunks of pork. Not so here. These were, hands down the best, "just like abuelita made them" carnitas I have ever had. Do yourself a favor and ask for the spicier red sauce and salsa Verde as sides. WOW!!! This spot was recommended to us by the Innkeeper at the Burton Inn, when we asked where we could go to get a late dinner. We pulled up 15 minutes before closing and were seated graciously, with every reassurrance that there was no hurry to get us through dinner quickly. We were both hungry, so my wife ordered a big porterhouse steak, and I ordered the lobster -- the idea being that we'd split and share. It was more than enough food for both of us, and it was truly fantastic. The porterhouse was well aged and cooked perfectly, presented with onion rings that surpassed all expectation. The lobster, of course, was also fantastic. The biggest surprise, though, was the steamed vegetables. Instead of being a throwaway filler on the plate, these were spectacular -- cooked perfectly and finished with tarragon butter that added a rich, complex flavor to them that made them a real treat instead of a chore to finish. The house wines were wonderful and reasonably priced, and it looked like they offered a wonderful bottle selection (although I didn't study it too carefully, knowing that 1 glass would be plenty.) The dinner menu prices were what I'd expect from an upscale restaurant -- but the food and the service made it well worth the price. I also have to say that, although the ambiance didn't feel "fancy," it was really nice to be served wonderful, well-prepared food in a comfortable, warm, relaxed setting. I would return to this place in a heartbeat, and would recommend it strongly to Cambria visitors looking for a nice dinner spot. read more

My folks and I were in Cambria for the evening, and needed to eat. We turned to Yelp for help, and found this place. They were the only restaurant we called that could seat us immediately, instead of waiting for hours. We ordered: Chicken Teriyaki for the father, and we had to stop him from licking the plate. He liked. Much. Rib Eye for the mother. Perfectly prepared. Warning: They say it comes with garlic. Oh boy does it. This is sleep-alone-tonight levels of garlic, but it was yummy. Spicy Ahi Tuna Tower for me. Spicy indeed (esp. for people like me, who don't eat spicy much). Extremely tasty, though. The service was fabulous, especially when you take into consideration that there was apparently one server for 13 tables. She was pleasant and friendly and helpful despite being run ragged. The chocolate cake for dessert MUST BE SHARED. It's not a slice, it's a wedge large enough to feed an entire family. It's rich and tasty and comes with a healthy serving of whipped cream. Our only complaint - they were a tad stingy with the bread. The basket arrived with only three small pieces (it says "rolls" on the website). We asked for more, and got precisely three more. The third time, we got two more small pieces. Come on, folks, by that point it should have been clear we're a bread family. read more

What amazing service we got. Showed up with no reservation on NY Eve for a party of 7 and got entire 2nd floor to ourselves. Seafood pasta was plentiful with a ton of seafood. Wonderful town I've never heard of before. Beautiful during the summer. Happened to stop there during a motorcycle ride between L.A. and Monterey. We walked into the Old Stone Station, before heading back out, and the interior was as expected... old mining town decor, and very clean. The staff was friendly, and attentive. As a local we have been to almost every single restaurant in town and this place hands down is the best atmosphere, nicest service and excellent food thats just priced right. The owner of this place is probably one of the most down to earth people I know and goes out of his way to make sure you get what you want and the way you want it... This place totally worked out. Never been to this town before and we came in HUNGRY. Pulled up Yelp and this one stood out. Very nice people working from door to door here. It looks like a old cabin that they turned into a restaurant. I found it pretty neat. I got the catch of the day, blackened salmon. It was perfect. My wife got a burger and she said it was fine. One thing I recommend to do that I blew it on is to sit in there outside patio on a nice day. I did not see it till we left even though the host gave me that choice. read more

Excellent steak! I've had the filet, the New York, and last time the waitress recommended the flatiron, which I normally would never order, but I took her word for it and it was amazing!
