We're Cambria locals and have been coming to this place for years. A while ago, the place changed ownership and things started to change, and not for the better. The server used to be helpful and friendly. That's totally changed now....but yet it's the same person. Now you get...ATTITUDE from her! The food was fine. Nothing wrong with that. The server brought one small carafe of iced tea and another of water. That was it. No separate checks is what we heard from the server when we placed our orders. "I'll bring one check and you can figure it out." Then later we heard from the server: "Well, stop at an ATM to get money before you come here next time, so it's easier to split the bill". Thinking to myself, but not uttering a word: "Thanks I'll do that, and since my local bank is in Morro Bay, I'm sure I can find a place with friendly service on the way there. Who needs this? So rude." When the bill came, an individual from our group volunteered to figure out the bill complete with a generous tip from each grouping. We handed the server our various cards and money with the tally and method of payment written for each. The server had a meltdown. "I'm not supposed to do it like this, I'm supposed to split them evenly!" As she was tearing down the steps to hand our divided payments to the manager to process the bill she said to us and not even trying to hide it: "If you don't like it, don't come back!" (Got it). I'm sure we could easily have spent our $170.00 or so order somewhere else where we are appreciated. We don't want to be worshipped. We do expect to be respected by those who are we are paying to serve us at a restaurant. We treat you the server with respect, and in return we are treated badly. It was as if she was doing us a favor by being there. Keep it up! The locals are there through thick and thin, but rude service, that will earn you a shutdown in this town. News travels fast. This place is a bit more costly than we are used to, but it was super delicious! My husband and I weren't very hungry so we decided to split a rack of lamb dinner and we savored every delicious bite. The lamb was so tender and flavorful, the clam chowder was the best I've ever had, and my husband could not say enough good things about the asparagus. Since we split a dinner, we felt virtuous enough to split a lemon and raspberry dessert. It was good, but nowhere near as tasty as that lamb! read more

Nope. Nope. No. No beer or wine listed on menu so prices are just kind of your guess. Asked for an IPA and the waitress says "we have a lot" sooooo like where's the list? They don't have one. Okayyyy....I order a stout & they're of a stout I wanted. Strike one. The "fresh bread" is just premade bread. The two halves we got didn't even connect to make a whole. It's served with two pads of butter they unwrapped and put into a PAPER cup. You guys, a paper cup. How much could it possibly cost to buy a simple ramekin? Crab cakes were FULL of filler with flecks of crab not even lump or jumbo lump crab meat, this was soggy canned crab. Trust me, I paid $96 to have 4, 6oz crab cakes mailed to me from Maryland. I know good crab cakes. The clam chowder was good, which makes me think it was canned, big tip on that it was canned: the potatoes were the exact same length vs scratch is usually smaller uneven potatoes. The best was the tuna stack. We should have known better than to order sushi but hey, we wanted to try it. So it arrives at our table. The plate is sauced up, but the tower? Missing cucumber & edamame & the seaweed flakes. Yanno, in making a "stack". The tuna was frozen, and it didn't seem to be sushi grade either. The rice was not sushi rice.....So we tell the waitress the item is missing key elements and her response was "ya they don't tell me when they're out of things." The place is small. You sit on old, dirty cushions on mismatched chairs. Also if you pay by card you have to write down the tip before she runs your card, it's super tacky & it's an easier way to pay out your staff at the end of the night but, it's still tacky & shady as if you're not running wait staff. Pre frozen foods. If you want fish and chips, stay away. Far away from their Mrs. Paul's frozen dinner fish sticks. Terrible. The turkey burger my fiancée got was edible, but unremarkable and the French fries were ok but nothing special. We had dinner here on our first night in Cambria, and I really enjoyed it. Our waitress was very friendly. Although she forgot our appetizer, it turned out that we really didn't need it because there was so much food with our entrees (and she apologized). We both enjoyed fresh fish with tasty sides. My girlfriend and I came in the other night for dinner. We had a good experience the first time we came to Cambria for lunch, so we wanted to go back for dinner. We walked in the door and waited for 5 minutes. Multiple cooks in the back walked by the door and saw us standing there. I finally got fed up and went into the back to ask if they were even open, and if so if we could get a table. The kid then came and asked for our drink order. He brought us our drinks, walked away, then came back to ask if we had any questions on the menu. We asked how a part of the menu worked and he had no idea. He said he was going to go find out and ask, and to our surprise he never came back. Server came and we ordered our food. We both got fish and chips and a side salad. The side salad cost $5 and it $4 too expensive for what you got. We thought the portion size was a joke for the money, and we only could imagine what we were going to get with the entree. Food came and let's just be honest, it tasted like frozen fish sticks you'd buy at the grocery store. Tarter sauce sucked, and the fish was tasteless. Sadly the best part of our meal were the French fries. We had such high hopes for a great meal, but were let down and were out $45 for a meal I could have cooked at home blindfolded. read more

My family and I pulled into Cambria on our way inland. We like the interesting book of Old Stone station. I was at first a bit apprehensive because they did not have a greeter. We stood there for a bit before someone came from the back. That is where complaint end. We had a great server and I believe the manager came out to talk to us. I had a taste for calamari and I have got to tell you how delicious it was! Along with the tasty clam chowder, made my meal perfect. All of the other items we ordered were delicious as well. As locals, we have been eating fairly regularly here for 15+ years. Good sandwiches, great potato salad. Their seared ahi salad is fantastic. Ownership recently changed, however, and we miss the friendly and responsive staff we were used to. And then they changed their policy of accommodating separate checks to not allowing them. Four of us visited today (two couples). We asked for two separate checks. Our server said no, although she could split the check 50-50 for us. Not a good solution, since only one couple had wine. The table next to us was empty. Two of us could have moved to that table and ordered, getting a separate check. Crazy. Many of us locals patronize Cambria restaurants with friends. Technology certainly allows the restaurants to process separate checks. So short sighted, Old Stone Station. So long. read more

We had been looking forward to a decent meal all day but was gravely disappointed when our meal game to our table. Food (everything-steak, potatoes, scampi and veggies) unseasoned and flavorless. The veggies were barely even ro temperature. I love al denote veggies but these were almost raw. We were first to arrive for dinner and two other couples followed within 15 minutes. Two servers for the three tables and our service was not good, to say the least. Our waitress was nice enough and brought us water but efficiency was not her strong point. She never even asked how we wanted our steak. She took our plates 7 minutes after completing our meal and ten minutes later my husband finally got up to ask for our bill. We learned our lesson that a good steak place in a small town is hard to find. Better off going to the BBQ place a couple doors up. They seem to always be busy. read more

I live in Cambria so I am lucky to be able to enjoy the local restaurants whenever I like, until now. Due to social distancing I, like every other responsible citizen, have not eaten out recently. I finally decided that I would not put up with another of my own thrown together meals tonight. So I ordered my favorite item from the OSS dinner menu, the lemon butter salmon with pilaf and lightly cooked vegetables to be preceded by a bowl of great chowder. Everything lived up to my expectations. The flavors were great and the portions were very generous. Except for the chowder, which I finished off, I will have enough for another meal. Have not yet tried the cheesecake I ordered for dessert but expect it will be delicious also. I will do this again soon. read more

Love the Menu and the service was wonderful. Really like that is used to be a gas station - fun! I had appetizers - and the Clam Chowder is Excellent. I would have given it 5 stars if the crab cakes were better (i.e. more crab and less filler)- but pretty good overall. My spouse had Filet Mignon- big portion and very good. It is my belief that one should Yelp prior to eating out. This way you don't stand on Main Street gawking at people through restaurant windows wondering what they are eating and trying to judge post masticating if they are enjoying their meal. After debating who would be the one to approach a liquor store clerk standing outside puffing away on her break time cigarette ("you do it", "no you!"), I strolled over to ask where we could find a restaurant that served good fish and chips. She told us it was on the other side of town and was not walking distance, but that they served very good fish and chips, and huge portions of prime rib (not that we were going to eat any, but she didn't know we were vegetarians and I wasn't about to disrupt her glowing description of their steaks). Five minutes later we were standing in front of Old Stone Station with our chihuahua, Booty. It was a quaint little restaurant with an outdoor patio that allowed pets. I was relieved not to see any other dogs as she loves to bark loud and shrill at the sight of other pooches. It was a little chilly outdoors but there was a nice fire going in the stone fire pit they had in the middle of the patio. The servers were kind to Booty and were very attentive to us. We had fish and chips (good but maybe slightly more overcooked than I would have liked it), and calamari (delicious with tubes and tentacles - hardly any restaurants I know serves tentacles, my favorite part!) with rice pilaf. The calamari was actually an appetizer but can be converted to a dinner entree for $7 more so I chose rice pilaf with steamed veggies and a bowl of clam chowder. The couple sitting next to us ordered the famed prime rib but didn't finish it, so the servers took it back to chop it up into little bite size pieces for Booty and our other 2 chihuahuas. Yes, they are spoiled rotten and have perfected the Jedi-dog mind trick on us ("you WILL buy us steak for dinner"). I'd probably give it five stars had we eaten there. I'd guess something could've been better Idk what though. But I have to say the ribeye with king crab and the filet mignon were prepared perfectly to order. The herbs and spices on the vegetable side made them delicious-not sure what that was but really good. We did take out due to ya know 2020 and it was packaged and all we needed was provided. Regardless of the food quality, I think the main reason for my dissatisfaction is with the speed of service. I can't help but feel that my family and I were unfairly treated. It took a while for them to take our order, and even longer for the food to arrive. In fact, 3 tables that were seated after us were served before us, even though they ordered after. Maybe one of our dishes took specially long to prepared, we don't know. To top it off, the whole time we were waiting, a little fly kept buzzing around to keep us company. The food was alright, the sevice was robotic, and the management needs to tighten the ship. Let's start with the service. The two servers that spoke to us, gave us conflicting "fish of the day" information. Our server was so robotic, she asked soup or salad and what type of dressing after my wife had placed her order and already told her she'd like the salad with ranch and steamed veggies for her side. Our server also continued to list the salad dressings that are typically available to each table, even though they were out of some. Our water cups remained empty throughout the meal, as were most of the others in the room. Both of our orders were wrong; though this could be the kitchen, it seemed a lack of attention to detail on the server's part. She serviced tables with a baby (I believe hers) in her arms; cleared dishes from one table and collected payment from another. She explained it is the baby's first birthday. Though I completely empathize, ask someone to watch/hold the baby while you are interacting with the customers. The extremely YOUNG man serving alcohol is questionable, at best. I'm pretty sure there are laws in place about this. He was an exceptionally energetic server; however, if he is as young as he seems, he is too young to serve alcohol. The food tasted good. However, the breaded chicken was soggy, fish barely cooked, and there were hardly any veggies on the plate. This restaurant has potential to be better. I don't go that often, but they have always been good to me!! The Calamari can't be beat!!! Fried with a crisp coating and tender calamari!! My other fave is the chinese chicken salad. I have to give up for the most part fried foods, so, I go even less than I used to. Plus I always try to do lunch at places as usually prices go up for dinner But I do suggest this to tourists. Yum. Hubs and i came in Saturday night and we were both disappointed with our food quality. My order was tasteless and the shrimps are not fresh while hubs clam chowder tasted like it was made out from the can. We decided to eat here because my husband wanted surf and turf & we needed somewhere to eat that was dog friendly. We were seated on the small patio at the front door. My husband ordered the rib eye steak and scampi. He liked the scampi but the steak was literally 95% fat. So he didn't really get much steak for the thirty something dollars he paid. I had the burger. It was fine nothing out of the world. I will say that they were good at drink refills and they did bring my pup some steamed carrots to munch on when I requested some. (Entire dining room was taken up by a birthday party, and there was only one heat lamp on the porch--to be fair, I'm living in LA and shiver at anything below 70.) Service - lovely busboy (it was his first day), but the waitress was meh. Owner seemed nice and was chatting up customers waiting for tables. Winning weird fact - pay $20 for a mediocre meal, and your water comes in a tiny disposable cup. It was reminiscent of a fast food place that wants to make sure customers don't steal soda. In my years of dining this is a experience I won't soon forget. Looking to try something new in Cambria we sauntered into Old Stone Station. First of all I love the decor. Rustic with fun relics placed here and there. The staff was great and attentive (actually the only reason I gave this place two stars and not one.) The Food. We are not big eaters so sometimes we share meals. My partner ordered a side salad with a baked potato and we were going to share the Ono fish which comes with baked potato, veggies and clam chowder. Her fist sized salad ($6) was wilted and the potato was dry and lifeless even after applying garlic butter and spring onions (she actually asked for chives) . I enjoyed my clam chowder and then came our main dish. The plate arrived with a utterly overcooked Ono and veggies that looked like they just came from a bag and my dry potato. I say dry for two reasons, first of all it was well..lacking moisture, but also I had ordered mine with butter and sour cream and that never made it to the spud. After two bites of the Ono we came to the conclusion that it was so overcooked it was uneatable. The staff was quick on the spot and whisked it away for another to be grilled as I slogged thru the rest of my pathetic potato and veggies. The Ono arrived back onto my plate and I delved into it. The outer edges were cooked nicely and although the fish had not been spiced in any way I figured we could get thru this. Wrong ! as we approached further into the filet it was completely raw. It was obvious to us what had happened. The Ono, which had been frozen, had not thawed completely and was cooked anyway. In this case it was two strikes and I was out. In the end they only charged us for the pathetic potatoes, wilted salad and the tasty clam chowder. read more

Takes place in an old school gas station, it's on the small side but we didn't have to wait at all since we went right when it opened. The steak was cook great, plenty enough seasoning and thickness to it the rice was a little dry and the vegetables were a little boring. We stopped here for lunch today because the first place we wanted to go to was closed. We should've taken it as a sign that the place was empty. It took a good 10 minutes to get seated, there's not any real signs directing how to get to the patio and no one was in the restaurant, three kitchen people walked by and saw us before someone finally came up to seat us. The food was mediocre. The burgers were clearly frozen pre-formed burgers and everything lacked flavor. The chowder bowl was bland, and the only thing it did for me was burn the roof of my mouth. So good! We stopped in for a quick lunch before heading out of town at the end of a lovely vacation weekend. Honestly, we weren't expecting much, just a quick meal before heading off on the road, but this turned out to be my favorite meal of the entire weekend! Not only did they have a lovely wine & beer selection but my shrimp & chips came with the largest, freshest, plumpest, most delicious shrimp I've had in...I don't know how long. Perfect batter, perfect everything. My boyfriend had a wonderful burger, perfectly cooked. And the fries had a great seasoning, too! He served our drinks and said the server would be out shortly. After our drinks were nearly gone, he came back out to check on us. I mentioned we hadn't seen or server yet. The server came out and was obviously bothered by our presence. There was no personal interaction other than taking our order. There we were, waiting. Do you hear crickets? Hmm. After a long wait for our food, it finally arrived. The adults ordered the shrimp and ribeye. The ribeye was decent, and the shrimp was so overly done it was chewy. The kids ordered burgers. Oh Old Stone Station, I want to love you more, but you're just not amazing enough. We had a large party (16 - a mix of kids, young adults, middle-aged and older) and were placed upstairs in the hot box - whew, open a window! The weirdness started when the waitress seemed a little out-of-sorts that we weren't ready to follow standard ordering guidelines...you know, get that drink order in quickly and be ready to order entrees starting 1-2-3 around the table. We are not a demanding group, but yes, a little disjointed - roll with it. I actually got a little bothered that the waitress was so uptight - relax, it'll all work out. The food was okay, not outstanding. I had the Spicy Tuna Stack for dinner - meh, not very spicy, kinda small with a huge pile of rice. My kid had the ribs...okay, not great. Maybe I should've ordered a burger or a grilled cheese sandwich (hard to mess those up, right?) In all, OSS ranked 3rd out of our three dinners out in Cambria. Picked this place for the first night because we were planning on something fancier for the second night in Cambria while on vacation. The setting was cool - others have mentioned the history behind the building, so i won't go into details. The service was average and so was the food. I had the special of the night - sole cooked in a piccata sauce and Mr. Nikki M. had the shrimp. I ordered a glass of viognier, but I'm pretty sure they gave me chardonnay. My husband and I stopped here late on a weekday after visiting Hearst Castle. It's very quaint and decorated with random antique finds. So the ambiance is unique, cozy, and definitely kitschy. I ordered the side salad, teriyaki chicken, and baked potato with the works and it was seriously spectacular. Service was sincere and attentive.
