Though it's taken years to finally make our way here, my wife and I couldn't have had more fun relaxing with our friends over quality food & wine. The mill is expansive to say the least and home to so many wineries including a handful beyond the main corridor that's in an adjacent building. I really appreciated the immense flexibility here where visitors can bring in whatever food they like and lay it out in the spacious outdoor patio. For libations, bottles can of course be bought at any of the tasting rooms, but people can bring their own in as well. For those looking to travel lighter, sandwiches, snacks and the like can be purchased at some of tasting rooms. Furthermore, those interested in hot items can look towards the food trucks that come on weekends (weekdays too I'm sure, just check!). While we only grazed the surface of the selection of vino here, my friend and I can definitely vouch for the quality of Todd Taylor's wines so far. We got married at the Old Sugar Mill less than a month ago. The venue is absolutely incredible! Each of our guests couldn't stop talking about our magical venue - the boiler room is what dreams are made of. The staff at Old Sugar Mill are friendly, super professional, and very helpful. I will note that there are some challenges with the venue (quick turnaround from active winery to wedding ceremony space, no kitchen or potable water) and there is a limited number of vendors you can use. That said, the OSM staff are super communicative about what is possible during the prep window, they'll do everything they can to accommodate your vision, and the vendors they recommend are the best (we loved all of our vendors who are listed below). We also purchased the cabernet package, which gave us access to the entire space - totally worth having all the spaces to ourselves (you're permitted three spaces in total, but you don't have to worry about sharing the space with another couple or event). We would highly recommend getting married at the Old Sugar Mill - between the gorgeous space inside and outside and the awesome, friendly and helpful staff, it really was our dream venue. The buildings are beautiful with the lighting that is used making it very romantic and special . The vendors and Wineries recommended by OSM were all amazing . We fell in love with the venue immediately and our coordinator , Amy, had us feeling like family from the first time that we met! Okay, I made a reservation for a wine tasting at Rendezvous winery for my brothers birthday today. Everything pertaining to that winery was awesome. Mike took good care of us! He was very knowledgeable about the wines and our group ended up purchasing two bottles. A nice white a desert port. We had such a good time. Buuuuut... after our wine tasting at rendezvous we strolled down to Clarksburg winery (my sister and I were here last October and found two wines we love) we walked in to try and purchase two bottles at 3:30pm. (On the door it states they are open until 5pm.) The lady and gentlemen said they were closed (even tho there was others in there) sooooo instead of just ringing up our purchase of two bottles they shush us out and then locked the door. Really classy. What business turns down a sale?!? That left a sour taste in our mouths. Other than Clarksburg Winery we had a good time. read more

I never thought I'd have to write a bad review to this place yet here I am. I have been coming here for years and have had membership at wineries yet today when I wanted to get a drink, we were not allowed to go inside since we had a camera. They said they don't allow professional photographers inside the facility. We are not professional photographers, we had a camera we got at Walmart. Not only that but my 13 year old brother had it. This child is not a damn professional photographer he is in middle school! Absolutely ridiculous! I will be cancelling my memberships here. Maybe I like visiting actual wineries and perhaps that is why I was so underwhelmed by the Old Sugar Mill. But I also thought the wines were not very good. It seemed like the wineries here produce in smaller lots. And the quality was not as good as other wineries in the area. For instance, one winemaker we tasted with told us point blank that he tries to make smooth, easy drinking wines. In my opinion, they were all very generic and underwhelming. The other three people in our group agreed. I think part of the charm of wine tasting is going to the different wineries, drinking on the patio, and enjoying the ambiance. That was lost here and it was quite disappointing. I didn't feel that "winery magic" that I love so much and I was pretty unimpressed by the wines. I'm glad we checked out the Old Sugar Mill but I think next time I will stick to the properties in Lodi. The wine and ambiance are much better. read more

BEST PLACE FOR WINE!! This giant upscale looking warehouse is a great place -- especially on the weekends!! There are over 6 wineries in here, each had their own little location/room. All of the wineries have been great. You'll find more upscale ones, or more down to earth farm wineries. So many choices!! Some of the wineries are SO helpful and nice. We had a wine maker who sat and taught us all about wine, wine tasting, wine making, and helped us find our preferences! He also let us try wine slushees!! There is also food!! Some of the wineries sell their own treats, such as: oil, EVOO, popcorn, cheese, dessert, etc. There have also been bbq outside, various food trucks, pizza, and other vendors. Never knew this place had so many wineries! I can totally picture this place being the "hang out spot" during warm summer nights with the huge back patio and food trucks lined up. It was already pretty packed when we came by one random weekend. A lot of the wineries were "sold out" and had 30+ minute waits. What a gem! We had a marvelous time visiting this interesting and somehwat novel building and the tenant wineries. Clarksburg area grows some very good quality grapes and have very skilled winemakers and servers in the individual wineries. It was a pleasant experience all around. This is a unique venue and well worth the time to visit. You'll not be disappointed! They also have food trucks that come and hang out for the people server some grub. This place is sooooo beautiful! It's about 13 wineries all in one old factory type building. The owners of this establishment definitely did a great job of turning this mill into a shabby chic venue. And the prices are great! Especially if you're someone like me who came lives in the Napa County area for years where they charge $20+ for tastings. The average pricing here is either $5 or $10 and they waive the fee if you buy a bottle. I recommend doing plenty of tasting, but when you find a bottle you completely love, then buy it and have a picnic out in the grass area! Or you can take it to one of the wineries that does live music! Great place and I will always come back. Especially with a group of people. But, I just wish they had food! I usually love coming to the old Sugar Mill, hitting one or two privately owned wineries along the way as well. It's a nice scenic drive right along the river, drive inland a bit, take a couple turns and Boom- there. While I do find that drinking at the sugar mill, with all the different and independent wineries inside can get quite costly, Groupon does have good deals on different wineries inside. Not to mention the fact that it's pretty cool in terms of architecture and venue considering it's inside of an old sugar mill, it's really quite beautiful. Having the variety and access to different types of vineyards and grapes and wineries all at your fingertips is awesome, but there's a bit of an up charge for that convenience I'd say. Sugar mill tends to get pretty busy, Especially by the weekend warriors who are celebrating girls night out or birthday parties, which can make it a little tough when almost all the groups of people there are between 4-10 heads deep. I have come here for many years, and I love the Sugar Mill. The location is perfect for a day filled with wine tasting without having to drive to multiple wineries. On the weekends, there is usually a food truck parked outside. I am currently a wine club member at Carvalho and Three, but I enjoy tasting at the other wineries as well. We attended the Carnival event last night, here at the Old Sugar Mill. We had a good time, but I felt that it was quite overpriced for what it was. We paid $30 admission, got 1 very small free drink and then every drink we had after that was about $10. The drinks were so small and the white wine I ordered was warm. There were various food trucks which were also good. But pricey. The music was great though and we had fun watching the dancers. We are wine club members and Du Vigne at the Sugar Mill so we were excited to attend the Port Wine & Chocolate event. Purchased tickets off of Sweet Deals dot com (Sacramento area savings website) for 40 percent off and saved a couple of bucks had I purchased the pre-sale tickets for the event. Regularly priced tickets went for 27.99, pre-sale were 20.00, and my purchase was made for 17.99 about a week prior to the event, so it was a good 40% savings off the regularly priced ticket. I'm always looking for a great deal, that's just how I roll. Not cheap, just frugal. Anyhow, the event was from 10:00 am to 4:00 and we arrived at 1:00. We started out at our Winery and enjoyed our 5 tastings as club members and hanging out in their lounge away from the crowd. Can I just say that once you've paired wine with chocolate you will be a changed person. Personally, I am NOT a chocolate person, but chocolate and wine is fabulous. After hanging out in there, we started working our way to the winery tasting tables that were on each side of the building and we were a little disappointed that after we had waited our turn (tons of people ahead of us), they regretfully ran out of their complimentary tasting wine. So, we made our way to the next tasting table. There, they were offering 2 complimentary tastings. Then, we decided to go outside because we had not seen sun after a week of all that rain, and it was beautiful. There were plenty of lounge chairs, chairs around fire pits, tables and chairs, and wine barrels that acted as tables. We decided to snatch one of them up, found us 2 chairs, and bought a bottle to enjoy while listening to the live music. The Old Sugar Mill is a great place to wine taste if you don't want to drive from winery to winery. Most of the tasting rooms are housed in the main building, with 2 newer additions in the building out back. Our group of 8 met on a beautiful April Saturday afternoon and it wasn't as crowded as I expected it to be (although I did have to park on the grass/gravel/dirt lot). There are no restaurants but the first winery to the left when you enter has a small refrigerated section of deli items and there was one food truck parked in the front. The back patio has a few tables, which were all occupied at the time, overlooking the spacious manicured lawn. I think it would do wonders if they put some picnic tables out there! This is also a popular wedding spot and is dog friendly-we saw both on our visit. We hit about half of the represented wineries in a couple of hours. All charge a tasting fee of $5 which goes toward a purchase of a bottle. I ended up with a Riesling ($18) from Three Wine Company and a Barbera ($28) from Perry Creek. The wine selection and the friendly folks pouring at Perry Creek were the standout for me. Since they are one of the new kids on the block, their tasting room (or counter, rather) is shared with Draconis in the sparsely decorated building out back. Definitely worth trying though if you cannot make it to their actual winery in Fair Play. I'm sure this place is a zoo during special events, especially in the summer, but if you're looking for more wine tasting than driving, the Old Sugar Mill is a great option! read more

The scenic drive getting here is enjoyable in itself. But once you reach your destination, you'll find this awesome building to be large, roomy, and accommodating to a large crowd of people. The restorers of this old sugar mill did a nice job at making it into a welcoming area of a central mall style hall with attached rooms that are used as separate wineries. Each winery has a unique set up and style for wine tasting, wine sales and gifts. There's always something going on at the Old Sugar Mill. Events, fairs, wine tasting parties, tours and even wedding receptions. We had a nice day here strolling throughout the rooms, chatting with vendors and sampling current vintages. As a wino, I wondered why I have never been to the Old Sugar Mill?! But whateves the reason when my girlfriend's bridesmaids planned her bachelorette weekend I was completely game! In advance they arranged for taxi service to drive us to and from. Also we brought an abundance of fruit, cheeses, charcuterie, etc ( my favorite meal on earth!) for snacking on later. We arrived around opening time which is 11:00 am and began tasting. So each winery has a tasting fee of $5 and many wave that fee if you make purchases. Who doesn't like being surrounded by wineries?! I was in heaven because not only was there wine but a number of foodie treats; there were wine slushies, cigars, and various flavored vinegars, Olive oils and sea salts. I bought a cognac cigar for Hubby and aged Balsamic vinegar for me. Normally there is two food trucks that park and serve but sadly not that day. After hours of tastings and laughs, we found a cozy spot near a man made fountain to began stuffing our faces. Opening up some of our vino purchases, we went to town! I absolutely love the vibe and atmosphere at the Old Sugar Mill! I really appreciate the variety of vineyard features throughout, as well. My friends and I were a group of 6 and decided to stop by for some wine tasting. We had a Groupon for the first place we went to, Heringer Estates, which was $30 for 6 people. $5/person is such a steal; this included the wine tasting and a free wine glass. The wines were good, and I enjoyed hearing the history behind them and how they were made. I tried the 2016 Sparkling Chardonnay, 2016 Viognier, 2016 Bubbly Rosé (and compared it to the 2013 Hope's Thread Rosé), 2014 Barbera, 2012 Insieme, and the 3 dessert wines: 2016 Moscato (my favorite!), 2009 Late Harvest Chardonnay, and 2015 Embrace Blended Port. The next place we went to was Due Vigne Winery. Here we did a wine and chocolate pairing tasting for $15. I loved this experience because I'm a huge fan of sweet wines, so they went with the chocolate very well! The concept of having multiple wineries featured in one place is GENIUS. I loved hopping from one to another while seeing what each place had to offer and what made it unique. It was a GREAT experience and truly a fun time. I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! This is a fabulous place to go wine tasting. The sugar mill has several wineries nestled inside it, so you have many options for where to go. There is also Draconi's out back. The building is really neat, and made of brick and lots of windows. There are vineyards across the road which are great for taking pictures at. Out back is a great place to hang out at, though there seems to be a lot of wasps hanging around. Eek! The parking lot is big, but generally packed on the weekends. It's pretty tight but my boyfriend and I haven't had any problems when we go. We first tried Draconi's, the guy who runs it is funny and great to talk to. We ended up getting a bottle of red as well as a couple wine glasses from here. Todd Taylor is really good too, but often pretty busy. When we came here yesterday we went to Three something.. I tried the summer time sippers, which was five wines that included three white, one rose, and one zinfandel. I loved them all, especially the Riesling! My boyfriend had all the grapes in one basket or something like that, which was all red. It was fun to sit at this bar. You can also get a glass of wine or a bottle. The tasting fees are $5 per person but most waive it if you get a bottle. The wineries are never pushy about having to purchase bottles which is nice. The only reason why I ever come here is for the Carnival! It's a sangria wine by Solomon Wine Company that is absolutely delicious! I still remember the first time I tried it! It was so unusual, not something you would ever expect, yet you wanted to taste more and more. It has a very fruity flavor and it's like "party in your mouth"!! An old sugar mill converted into 8 wine tasting rooms and an event center. Can't go wrong, right? Well, the venue is picturesque and very nice. The conversion works well as the mill is surrounded by vineyards. Each of the tasting rooms have a modest $5 tasting fee, waived by a purchase of a bottle. Overall wine quality is modest at best. Sure, there are a couple good bottles here, but mostly mediocre. Still, the people are friendly, the venue makes for convenient tastings and we need to support local farmers and wine makers. I got an invite from my sister in law to go in a limo wine tasting...literally the sugar mill is like 5 miles from our houses! Went to their New Years party and it had to be the worst run event that I had been to in decades. Lot's of things were wrong with the event, $45 dollars to purchase our tickets which provided us with a band and sort of a DJ, and supposedly a no host bar. Stood in line to get a drink for one whole hour, and then when we got to the front of the line to order, we were informed that they had run out of beer for the night....really at 10:15, for a party that was scheduled to last until 1-2 am ??? and get this, with a couple dozen brew pubs in Sac and so many great beers available from California and world, their beer selection(before they ran out) was Heineken, Modello and Corona, really ???? won't mention other issues and also will never go back to one of their events. Visited Old Sugar Mill for the first time, and I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a fun place to visit. We came on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, I was glad it wasn't raining because the parking isn't paved so watch out if you go when it's been raining, there's probably a lot of mud. The building itself is huge, and when you walk in there are different winery tasting rooms on each side of the building. And in the back of the building there's an open grassy area where there were a few food trucks, people, people picnicking, dogs playing, and a few tables where you can sit and enjoy your wine and food. They have such a variety of wineries to try so there's definitely something for everyone. They even have a few more wineries in another building next to the main one. We tried a few different wines, a flight from Draconis and Clarksburg and we tried the wine slushie from Rendezvous cellars. Whenever my wife and I visit her family in Granite Bay, we usually go with them to the Old Sugar Mill. It's a pretty cool old brick building that used to be a sugar mill and was converted into a wine-tasting facility where 6 or so different wineries host tasting rooms within the building. They also keep a lot of their barrels inside so you get the ambiance of being in a winery without actually being there. The great thing about this place is that each tasting room is about 20 feet from the next when you walk out and walk into the next one. If you want the convenience of sampling a variety of vintners with utmost convenience, this is a great way to do so. Drive there and park. Walk inside to the first room (probably Carvalho). Do a tasting and maybe even fill a couple bottles yourself from the barrel. Checkout. Move next door and repeat. You just have to worry about how you are getting home by the time you are done with the last room. Since we have been going here for a few years, we have seen how the vintners have changed over time, and we have also noticed that: 1) the tasting prices have gone up from free to $5-$10, and 2) the pours are half an ounce at best. They have gotten stingy and it sucks. For the prices you are paying, you should at least get solid 1 ounce pours, but instead you get the feeling like you aren't worthy of consuming their wines. To be quite frank, I realize they are boutique wineries, but they aren't THAT good. A little further down the road amidst the vines is Bogle's winery. There you can taste full pours of about 12 types of wine (no exaggeration) with really friendly staff for FREE. Yes, for free. Better wine, better quantities, for free. So from now on, we'll be starting at Bogle. Summary: Convenient way to sample a variety of boutique vintners without having to drive in between each. Walk in and hop from tasting room to tasting room. Lots of parking. Cool ambiance. Decent wines. Prices are high for tastings ($5-$10 per person) and pours are very stingy.
