Once I found out this place was owned by the same people that own Grand Dukes I had to go there. Mainly b/c it's way closer. It's nothing like Grand Dukes as far as the atmosphere. This is a cafe, so the dining room is smaller, and nothing special. It also wasn't very warm inside, we had our coats on for most of the dinner. The menu options were pretty much the same as Grand Duke. The bread was not the ample assortment they give you at GD, it was just one type of rye. The sour cream was just regular sour cream and not the bacon sour cream. The Lithuanian combo platters were a hit and very good. Other dishes we ordered were: Pork Kabob, Pork Tenderloin and potato pancakes. The potato pancakes were really soggy and just not very good. Pork tenderloin was really tasty. The pork Kabob was served on rice, the rice was really good however the meat was on the fatty side. Our waiter was really nice and attentive. I think I'd go back with a Groupon or some coupon. It's nice that this location is closer to my house, so if I really have a taste for some kugilus I know where to go. If I want to make the dinner a special one I'd much rather go to Grand Dukes. read more

Today was my first time visiting Old Vilnius. I came based on a recommendation from my family. There were very few people in the restaurant with a few different servers. We were excited because my family has come before when it was much more crowded, so we were glad to see it somewhat empty. We sat down and ordered around 7:00 PM, and we didn't receive our food until well after 7:45 PM. The service was incredibly slow, possibly the slowest I've ever experienced at any restaurant I've ever been to in my life. Nothing that we ordered should have taken that long to cook. Our water glasses were never refilled. When asked for more water it took ages to be refilled. When we asked for the check, it also took a while for them bring it out. The food was good. But almost everything is either cream based, fried, or covered in bacon. There is not much on the menu if you are trying to be health conscious. I ordered a chicken sandwich, which was nothing spectacular. My dad ordered salmon, and my mom got a combo which had veal schnitzel, stuffed cabbage, and a potato dish. Again, all of the food was good, but it took far too long. In summary, the food was good if you aren't being health conscious, the service was slow. Very good food, my wife and I shared the bohemian combo plate. One stuffed cabbage,one Lithuanian sausage with sour kraut ,two pork tenderloins and mashed potatoes. My daughter ordered the perogi's with onion and bacon. The 3 of us shared everything and everything was delicious. To top it off,they even let me use the groupon. Went on a recommendation that they had ethnic food from Lithuania. My husbands mother was Lithuanian and taught me to make a meat dumpling dish. Walking in brought her memory flooding in. LOVED the food, atmosphere, gift shop and grocery. Tried the Zeppelins, dumplings, fried cheese bread, sausage with yummy sauerkraut. Loved it all. Cannot wait to visit again. I understand being busy... but it was slow...@ 2pm and there were only 4 tables to serve for 3 waitresses. Being that we are Slovak if gramma were still around she might be wondering what I was thinking?! Lol!!! This Lithuanian cafe has been here for awhile and is tucked away on 75th street. What I was thinking was I missed some gramma comfort food closer to home. I gave in one dreary afternoon and boy was I glad. Food has no boundaries when it is delicious. This little cafe is a hidden gem in our neighborhood... small in stature but they have managed to also include a deli and European souvenir shop. We did lunch, choosing from the lunch menu. Our starter was wild mushroom barley soup and it was great as were our choices! We will be back for dinner. Lots to choose from some I recognized from grandmas cooking and some I would be open to trying. They do have alcohol with a selection of beers. We wandered to the back of the store and found tucked away there fresh and frozen items. We took some smoked fish, cheese and Krupnik home... toasting our newest find that night. I would like to make it 4.5 stars only because service was slow that afternoon, the waitress disappeared and finally brought the food which did come hot and she only had ourselves and one other table. read more

Small restaurant and deli in a strip mall - a hidden gem! Food was delicious - we ordered a Lithuanian platter, Polish platter and a create your own combo platter. Stuffed cabbage was huge - nice amount of filling and the tomato sauce was great! Smoked polish sausage had good flavor and wasn't greasy. Kugelis was fresh and potato pancakes were large and delightful. Sauerkraut was tangy and flavorful. Cepelinai was huge and full of meat. A little more pricey than other Eastern European restaurants but well worth it. Took home some fresh, homemade bacon buns - stuffed full of bacon - soooooo good! This was my first time being to a Lithuanian restaurant and let me tell you, it was amazing! I was a little unsure at first because some of the things looked very heavy and I'm more of a lighter meal kind of guy if you ask me. But I was certainly surprised. I ended up having the lamb kabobs and they were some of the best cooked and most flavorful I have ever had. Not to mention the potato sides were just as good as the main meal. My Lithuanian-born friends order from here for all their family parties and dine here when they want the taste of home, but don't have the inclination to prepare the foods they're craving. Hence, we decided to try in cafe, the same wonderful European fare we've had at our friends house. Too bad it took so long to go, even considering the relatively long drive which is worth every mile in bad traffic! For a small cafe with deli for takeout of about 12 tables, the menu is chock full of interesting Kugelis, potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage, pierogies, dumplings, chicken, fish, veal, sausage and meat dishes, among others. The only drawback IS the huge amount of menu options that are almost daunting to the diner who isn't certain what they want to order. That was us. What we liked most about our meal, was the absence of too much sodium and/or grease. I don't know why restaurants tend to over saturate their food with salt, but they do. Never mind the salt shaker on the table...the food has enough sodium as it arrives in front of you, to stock a movie theater for a month. We weren't drinking water throughout our meal due to thirst from the huge amount of sodium, and that was fabulous. The only reason for the 4 verses 5 stars is when we left, we weren't certain we ordered what we wanted to by seeing the plates of the other diners. Everything looked heavenly! We had the kugelis appetizer with sour cream, which was wonderful. Perfectly balanced potato cake that was crusty on the outside, smooth and flavorful on the inside. The sour cream made the cake even better. Yum. This was my 2nd attempt at beef tongue and his 1st. It was actually how delicious I remembered it with veggies to make it less weird and he thought it was tasty, all things considered. We shared everything and also the herring and mushroom salad with onion and carrots. Very good, and the herring was perfect with the right balance of pickling, I guess you would call it. Another yum! We shared a delicious bowl of cold red beet borszcz which definitely trumps the Manischewitz or Streitz bottles at Jewel! For entrees we ordered and shared the Vilnius chicken - wine sauce, spinach, tomato and mushroom, which was very tasty, as was the moist-on-the-inside, crispy on the outside caraway seeded roast duck served with their wonderful kugelis and perfectly made sauerkraut. With a few glasses of their Alita Lithuanian wine, we were stuffed beyond recognition - hadn't finishing more than a half of each plate (perfect for leftovers). Too stuffed for dessert, unfortunately. That's one thing we would like to go back for, amongst the other more old world entrees and apps that we missed. Service, by the way, is very helpful and friendly. There was not a question about the menu that was ignored or treated stupidly. For European food and ambiance and American fare, this cafe is perfect for couples, families, and anyone looking for something different. Born and raised in Lithuania I know what the real Lithuanian food taste. So I was excited to try this place and didn't mind a long drive from the city for some good food. Unfortunately I was not impressed. First of all it took 45min for our food to be done and when it was served it was cold. I have no idea what was the name of our not so polite waitress either, she never introduced herself. Drinks...umm yeah. I had Moscow mule and that was a fail as well. I had a long day and was really hungry. It was around 8pm and not busy. The dining area is super clean. I asked the server for help ordering and he aimed me in the right direction. The portions of food is way too large. I took home a too go bag, had it for lunch today. All the soup is great.. I had a tasty Lithuanian tap beer. I give it 5 stars. The food is really heavy. The people giving negative reviews here don't know what the heck they're talking about. This is some of the best-quality Lithuanian food in Chicagoland. The quantities of food that you get are amazing for the price. The only justifiable complaint that anyone can put forth is that the service is slow, which it is, and for good reason - everything is cooked from scratch to order! How can you beat that? People who are looking for eastern European "fast food" have their heads you know where. This type of food simply CANNOT be prepared expediently. Just got back from eating dinner here and it was great. We arrived at about 6 for dinner and there were two tables left. There are only about 10 tables here so call ahead if you have a big group. We ordered drinks and also ordered potato pancakes as an appetizer. Very delicious, served with applesauce and sour cream. We ordered our food - my husband got the Lithuanian platter and I ordered the stuffed cabbage. Very large portions! We definitely have leftovers in the fridge. We saved room for honey cake, and we were so glad we did. It was so good - I would go there just for the cake. The service was a tiny bit slow, which is why I gave it the 4 star rating instead of the 5 star rating, but the food was amazing and very reasonable for the amount of food you get. We had an Amazon Local deal - $12 for $25 worth of food - so our bill came to $35 - which for two drinks, an appetizer, two huge entrees and two desserts was not bad at all. It's not hard finding Eastern European fare in Greater Chicago but in a city where the European scene is dominated by Polish and Ukrainian fare Lithuanian is a lesser known speciality that this place thrives on. There's an array of Lithuanian dishes such as Sausage, kugelis, and zeppelins but for those unfamiliar with Lithuanian food (and I'll be honest it can be a bit heavy) there's the better known polish dishes and also their schnitzel is super good. It's about as authentic as you can get and be sure to check out their local bookstore. It's about as close to modern day Lithuania as you can get around here. Worth a try! read more

My parents had purchased us a goupon after they ate here. I was excited to share some of my Lithuanian heritage cuisine with my girlfriend. We called early Saturday and they said the last seating was at 5:30. Strange for a place open until midnight. We arrived promptly at 5:30 and were told by the hostess we needed to be out by 6:20. As we were seated the whole dining room silently stared at us. There is that warm Eastern European hospitality. Our waitress quickly came over and said we would have to be out more like 6:15. I asked if that was time to order and eat. She replied, "if you order in the next 4 minutes." Guess no appetizers then? We decided to leave with no one offering an apology. Really like this place . . I'm Polish/Russian, so have been exposed to a fair amount of Slavic food, but they had plenty of things that I've never tried before, and they were all good. This place is great! It's a small cafe so if you plan on going there on the weekend I would call first for seating. My husband and I ordered their fried bread in a garlic cheese blanket as an app an it was delicious! Also, their Borszcz soup is fantastic-either one hot or cold! I ordered the hot and hubs ordered the cold-they were excellent! I tried their Noblesmen Zeppelins as a main dish and it was very good. Portions are big! They have a souvenir shop and deli/grocery store as well. We will be back as I want to try more off the menu and hopefully next time leave room for dessert. Everytime I come back and visit my hometown of Chicago (I live in California) I make a priority to eat the food of my ancestors that I can't get out west. Checked this place out with my mom and was very happy. They have some lunch specials ranging from $5 - $7 that were of good portions. mom got some meat crepes that were very tasty. I ended up getting the fried Lithuanian platter consisting of Kugelis, potato-sausage and "zeppelins" which were fried potatoes topped with a bit of sausage. Everything I ordered was potato-based topped with bacon bits served with a side of sour-cream, but I didn't care. It was downright delicous. Probably not the healthiest thing to order, so for only an additional .99 I got a bowl of creamy tomato soup. I went home with plenty of leftovers. I liked the interior decor, dark, with a large wall mural of a castle in the night. Very Prussian-Germanic-Goth inspired. The women that worked there were all beautiful. IN ADDITION, Old Vilnius has a store/deli in the front where you can buy some Lithuanian-pride clothing, trinkets, books, dvds, and pretty much anything you can think of. read more
