Soft shelled crab sandwich with coleslaw and tartar

I was not impressed with this place. The atmosphere was good....but it had more rules than any restaurant should "no loud kids" "no children allowed to have salad bar" "20% tip added if none left on receipt." "No wet bathing suits." Really? This is a beach bar, stop being so snobby and have fun! I only went there because it has superb reviews on here. 3 out of the 4 people I dined with couldn't eat their meals because it was gross. Flat as can be crab cakes, teeny tiny shrimp, and burned chicken fingers. Only saving grace was the soft shell crab sandwich with coleslaw. Skip this place, I'm sure you can find something better somewhere else.

I was staying next door at the Marriott an was starving. I walked into Olde Salty's an was greeted by a Salty older woman. The tone an energy of the place really went down hill after I walked in an just asked for a menu. I'm not sure if it was me or if she was just having a bad day but it made me loose any appetite I may have had at the time. I walked up the boardwalk an found a nice place with kind people working. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING. I can care less how good your food is if the attitude of the staff is bad it reflects on the restaurant. I'll never go in that place again an plan on sharing my story with everyone. Hope your day's get brighter Olde Salties! \m/

15 mins to get our drinks and have been waiting 25 mins to get our appetizers... and 35 mins and it is still not here. The frustrating part is the place isn't even busy. Food is finally here and is bad. I am not a picky eater but this is ridiculous. The crab dip doesn't have crab in it. It does have a couple baby shrimps however and the shrimp poppers taste like the cheep jalapeno poppers you buy from a grocery store with a popcorn shrimp added. Look at my other reviews. You will find out how infrequently I leave negative reviews. This one was well deserved

My family visited in August, 2012 and had a wonderful experience. Seafood platters were awesome ! Good "down home" fried seafood

"Delightful seafood, entertainment, and more in Carolina Beach"…read more Stopped by here on a holiday Saturday night at just after 6pm, party of 2. Amazingly, we were able to get a table right away. The place is mostly "open air" with two covered areas and a few spots in the sun. A few folks had dogs there, too. They also have little spinny things on the table to keep flies away (apparently called "fly fans"). Note, enter on the beach-side, not the other side, to meet the host. There's also a stage inside for entertainment (which started later than we were there, but the band was setting up). We ordered the ahi tuna nachos, and I got a crabcake sandwich. My partner got black pearl salad. Food came out in under 20 minutes, which was impressive given the place was HOPPING. The ahi tuna nachos were ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. They had bits of mango, a delicious sauce, really good nachos (made from wonton wrappers), and the tuna was amazing (served rare). It was about $20, but a very large helping. This would make a great meal for one person eating that alone. The crabcake was fine-- nothing unusual but tasty. I may not order that again, but it was good. My dining partner said the black pearl salad was really good and liked the blackberries, feta, and walnuts in it as well as the vinaigrette. Our drinks got refilled, and plates were taken away quickly when we finished any part of the meal. Our server was really nice, too. Overall, I would happily go back, and DEFINITELY want that ahi tuna nachos dish again. I recommend-- very good.

Once seated though things moved pretty fast. Our waiter Noah T was very attentive, answered our questions and we were off and running. We chose a couple of appetizers; a bowl of Chowder (only because of the raves from fellow Yelpers) and the Athenian Bruschetta. Both were very good but my expectant bubble was burst as it wasn't "the best I have had" as many of the Yelpers had described it. The Athenian Bruschetta though was A-amazing. For Entree I had the stuffed Flounder and Norma had Shrimp and Scallop Scampi. Both were very delicious. Atmosphere was nice, a bit crowded, as you would expect where the food is really good. Tables were tight. Hard to navigate with Norma's wheelchair, but we made it through. Large helpings, took tomorrow's lunch back to the hotel. A definite come back to place.

The vibe is fairly casual. Fairly affordable prices. I am a tough critic on seafood because I grew up on the coast eating fresh seafood, so others may have differing opinions. I had high expectations as a result of the reviews. The chowder was the star for me and could be elevated to excellent with a little more seasoning (I added a lot of pepper which was enough to give it a kick and make it exceptionally tasty). The oysters were good. The crab cakes didn't have enough lump crab for my taste -- more cake than crab, if that makes sense. And the hushpuppies were a bit bland. My son enjoyed the mac which came in a large portion. Although we were just there for takeout, the employees were friendly and helpful.

"Delicious dive on Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach"…read more Came here for lunch on a Sunday at right around noon. The place is dark and kind-of makes you feel like you're in the bowels of a wooden ship. There's a large bar in the center, and a few tables around it, as well as a few tables outside in the back. We were seated right away. I ordered the hot honey shrimp wrap as well as the pickled veggies appetizer. My dining partner got the quinoa grain and greens bowl with blackened tuna. Our food came out in around 10 minutes. The hot honey shrimp wrap came with french fries, to my surprise (didn't see that mentioned on the menu), which were fine. The wrap itself was DELICIOUS. MAN, that hot honey was SO tasty, and the greens and corn batter on the shrimp really complemented it well. It is a very, very messy dish to eat with your hands, so be prepared, but it's well worth the sacrifice. The pickled veggies were local and very tasty-- also a very good value for $5. My dining partner really liked her bowl and the tuna in it as well. The staff were quite attentive, regularly checking in, filling drinks, and clearing dirty plates. Only caution is that a lot of the batters are corn-based, so be careful if you have that allergy. Overall, would very happily come back-- great in all respects. I recommend highly!
