I was attending a wedding at the Irma J Ranch (incredible venue!!!!) and they orderd this pizza for the rehersal dinner and it was absolutely fabulous. Big delicious fresh soft crispy crust with just a hint of sweet. Fresh toppings, generously piled on top & covered with cheeses. Perfect seasonings of garlic? Fresh herbs maybe.. oregano? Basil? We went for The Fatty & Casa ...something. So good, we had to come back 2 nights later for a second round of The Fatty & then tried the pesto one (my favorite). Wings are baked & extra tasty. Blue cheese dressing trumps the ranch. Full bar & local euphoria beer will do you up proper. Don't forget to pull the bell on your way out. Good times. read more

Ordered 2 16" pizzas and breadsticks. We were excited to eat it as the yelp reviews were pretty decent. Now I'm not kidding when I tell you there was NO SAUCE. See the picture for yourself. Now I know that cooking food can be hard sometimes but the common pizza really has 3 main ingredients: bread, sauce, and cheese. Not quite sure how the sauce got missed. The breadsticks were better than the pizza so I'll give them that. Keep in mind that with 10 people consisting of mostly teenagers and adults there was 3/4 of the 2 pizzas left. Overall we were extremely disappointed as we wasted $60 and got 2 dry pizzas with some average breadsticks. Would not recommend. read more

I seriously love this place. It's a hole in the wall dive bar/restaurant in the best possible sense of the word. I have been enjoying the Schoolhouse for the last few years as a regular visitor to Durango. The pizza is great, the beer is cold and the atmosphere is just the right amount of grungy. The local vibe is great, too, because you'll never meet a stranger. What I love about the place is also how packed it is on particularly snowy evenings. The people sure do come out and about, and apparently the Schoolhouse is the place to go. They have pool, they have darts, they often have live music and there is a house dog and house cat. As others have said, this place has a lot of character and a great vibe. If you want that local flavor with a side of a good drinks and good food, come to the Schoolhouse! read more

This is the pizza spot if your are staying st Purgatory. We gave this place a shot for dinner 7/11/18. We had a large pizza, half cheese and half pepperoni. The crust was nice and crispy, and delicious! We were thoroughly impressed, and will definitely be back. As others mentioned the crust is a little thicker than other pizzas, but our two kids and and my wife and I loved it. read more

First time time dining here for my brothers birth day. The pizza and wjngs were over priced for their quality. Had a horrible experience with the racial slurs from three other customers, but most surprisingly the waitress directly insulted my father with comments assuming he'd steal a shot glass. read more

Stumbled upon this gem while driving between Durango and Silverton. I can't exactly say why this is the best pizza I've had other than the way they bake the dough. Tried the Vinnie Pescarino and Casa Escuela. This is a no frills place. You place your order at the bar where they give you your set-up and then you wait until someone from the kitchen delivers. That's the extent of your interaction unless you order drinks from the bar. We did and always get the Mexican Logger by Ska when I'm Colorado. Don't be afraid to talk to the natives, they are very friendly. read more

This place is a uncomfortable dirt hole. We ordered two pizzas and picked them up and to my surprise they added a 20 percent pick up fee. When I asked what it was for . They bar tender lied and said the charge was listed on the menu and they didn't have to tell you on the phone. You should just know. Then I was threatened by someone else at the bar saying they don't like people who don't tip. He offered to take care of a cheap .... like me if I had any more problems. The pizzas were burnt but eatable, just ok. I would not recommend dealing with the hassle, for mediocre eats. There are much better options. read more

Really 4.5/5. Outstanding pizza, with a thicker crust and nicely browned, well balanced toppings. Wings also very good, crispy-not sauced after cooking like most places-seasoning had a little spice. Two Ska brews on top, very nice. Definitely a dive bar feel, but quietly done and not truly 'dive-y'. Very nice service! We stopped by Schoolhouse Cafe and Saloon because there are a limited number of places to go when you are staying near Purgatory. We were not sure what to expect and walking in was a bit of a surprise. We meet Emma at the bar who was very helpful and made a great pizza. She convinced us to get one large 1/2 and 1/2 instead of a couple of smalls. My half, Casa Escuela, was unique and more than I could have hoped for. My wife's half, breakfast bacon only, was very meaty and Emma kept them separate, as requested. As mentioned in other posts, the crust was thicker than most, but it was still crisp Top notch pizza, little bitty place. read more

My first visit here was back in July 2019. Friends took me here for drinks before we were heading out to dinner. While we were there I saw several pizzas coming out and they smelled delicious! I was back in Durango in July 2020. While things were a little different with COVID, we were able to grab seats at the bar, order drinks and a pizza! We knew the pizza would take about 45 minutes and that was fine with us. We sat and chatted with the bartender and some locals. Everyone was very welcoming and we loved the local stories. The pizza was AWESOME and huge! We had enough for leftovers the next day. This place is a local hidden gem! We are coming out for a week the end of October and we will be back for drinks and pizza! read more

Okay guys, if you are an out of towner, do not bother going. Probably the worst spot we've been to since our stay at purgatory. As soon as we walked in everyone just stared and didn't say a word. Guy sitting at the bar was obviously drugged out of his mind. Lady took our order for food and the food was out a little of 35 min which was totally fine. While we were waiting on our food our server pours herself a beer and sits down with her friends and starts drinking. She completely ignored us and I sat with an empty beer for about 20 min. Love this place. Friendly staff and locals there. Pizza takes 1 hr. to 1.5 hrs after you order during busy times because they only have one oven and one cook with call ins and dining room orders. Witnessed many people turned away or left after they figured out how long it would take. The Schoolhouse should "stick it to the man" and get another oven and cook during peak times. Places like this should be popular and busy. They could be an economic powerhouse and hire more people. F u man! Usually pretty good music playing and a pool table with local sharks around. We ate dinner on a Tuesday before the snow season began. They were open and served a slightly doughier pizza than I prefer. After ordering food from the bar we kept most of our 9 (including 3 children) entertained through a longish wait. The youngest and one parent fled back to the house before food arrived. I expect the courteous kitchen manager may get more into swing as she staffs up for the on season. And any gaps in the drinks selection (kegs were tapped out and the very cheapest of their cans were unavailable) will probably come back in stock. The place is housed on the first floor of a 2-story wooden structure, with unsealed aggregate "gravel" parking behind. The interior walls and ceilings are clad in $1 bills, flags, and brassieres. Booster seats and high chairs are available. Games include one coin-type pool table and one shuffle board table which is missing an end wall. The cat kept to itself but gave perfunctory acknowledgement of attention paid to it. read more

Okay... Originally hailing from Hermosa and Manhattan beach I was not prepared for the cool, laid-back scene that is this place. We got a large Hawaiian (with ham and added pepperoni) pizza and it was one of the best pizzas we've had. Great place to grab a bite for the family in the takeout COVID world we live. Food was good staff was friendly ready on time

I've been here twice and each time, really enjoyed the food. Yes, the wait is long (as every review states), but the good is worth it and for the location, what else are you going to do? I called ahead for take out and the bartender was honest and friendly and let me know it would be 1 1/2 for a calzone. No problem. We watched the game in our rental condo, waited, and picked it up right at the time they suggested. It was hot, delicious, and the two of us ate until we were stuffed, and we had leftovers! All for about 15 bucks! Truly a great deal. The wings are also excellent and spicy, the pizzas are filling and fresh. Great beers on tap, and a gorgeous view from the patio. On another visit with more time on my hands, I enjoyed local beer while waiting, and enjoyed reading the walls and looking around. Everyone there was very friendly. It's not the best place for little kids, but it's a lot of fun. If I lived nearby, I'm sure I'd become a regular. I really like the atmosphere. read more
