I have bought cakes for Birthdays, Anniversaries, special Events, Church Dinners, and even for my wedding from Old Tyme Pastries. While I do live in Modesto I have continued to drive to Turlock to buy all of my cakes. Recently I ordered my daughter's Birthday cake from here. The cake I ordered was featured on their website. The lady that took my order spelled the name an message that I wanted on the cake. They called a few days later to verify the writing for some reason. When I went to finally pick up the cake 2 hours after they told my it would be ready, they still hadn't included the Birthday script, and were not even sure which cake was mine. They thought mine was going to a rest-home. I waited while they fixed it. It looked ok except that the pink on the cake was closer to red, but I was willing to make it work. At my daughter's party that evening the first person took a bite and had to spit it out. The frosting was extremely bitter. We ended up removing all of the frosting from the cake to be able to serve it. My daughter was VERY disappointed. I called the next day to let them know and see if they could make it right for me. I was told they would have to talk the the "manager". Later they called back and said they tasted the pink frosting, and confirmed it was bitter; probably from the food coloring they used. Since it was the pink frosting that tasted bad they offered me only an $8 refund for just the pink frosting. This cake was quite expensive, and $8 was a very small percent of what I spent on it. I found their offer incredibly insulting, especially after many, many years of loyalty to their establishment. I promise them I will NEVER spend another dollar at Olde Tyme Pastries. I was so insulted by the poor customer service that I didn't even take the big "$8" refund. So sad to see a business treat their long-time customers like this. read more

After living in Turlock for 10 yrs, I have never been to old tyme until today. Don't get me wrong, I have had old tyme before when my supervisor brings us some treats. Anyway right away as a walked in it was moderately busy but still acknowledged me. I was helped by Esperanza, I had told her I had never been there before and didn't not know what to get. She immediately asked me a few questions and made some suggestions. I ended up getting a strawberry pizza, some cupcakes and macaroons. Esperanza has a great attitude, chipper and a great people person. I will definitely go back and try the other pastries and I hope Esperanza helps me again. read more

The ladies behind the counter are SO SNOBBY! They all sure know how to make customers feel uncomfortable. They definitely mistreated a pair of other customers prior to me. I've been coming to this location since I was 10, and never did I encounter the horrible staff that they now have. Not a great place for families - Visited recently as bro in law is having his wedding cake made here, staff was impatient with us and unpleasant. We're my kids running around like screaming maniacs, no. We're they excited at what they saw in the showcase, of course they were, it's filled with cupcakes and cookies what kid wouldn't get excited. But the staff just made this such an unpleasant visit by assuming (or maybe hoping) we weren't eating there then just being visibly put out at having some items 'for here' and some 'to go'. I ordered enough 'for here' to fill two trays and three cupcakes to go, you might expect that as I walked to my table with the trays in hand I would've received a heads up that I left my box of cupcakes behind or that anyone interested in customer service would've lent a hand and brought them to my table, nah, just set them on the counter as I walk away, I'm sure he'll remember...thankfully I did. My husband has never been so disappointed since moving to Turlock. It was 15 minutes to closing time. A lady walked in before him. Pulled a tab for assistance. He is at the door getting ready to walk through, when a lady tells him "Sorry were closed". His response is "Really, that lady just pulled a tab two seconds before me. Your telling me your going to ask all these people to leave here at 6pm". A gentleman replies "It is not 6pm yet, he is right" "I guess being a Mexican in this establishment makes my money no good here. I appreciate your response" he replied to the gentlemen. "But I will never come back here again". The lady just stood there, watching us have this brief conversation and not once said a word. Mind you the "Open" sign is on and the doors are still open. He tells me" Had I know I would experience this kind of behavior, we would have just stayed in Fresno". This was last Saturday. Heartbreaking given it is good food, lousy hospitality, and stereotyped. I guess the customer is not always right. Any recommendations where we will feel welcomed, would be appreciated. read more

I took my order with a young woman with the sides of her head shaved (I should have gotten her name), all I gave her was a verbal direction of what I wanted for a monster cupcake and she nailed it. Delicious food, casual atmosphere, good service - I'll definitely be going back. I had their chicken salad sandwich on their very thick-cut, fluffy white bread. I got a salad on the side thinking a sandwich alone wouldn't be enough, but it would have been plenty on its own. I took a doggie bag home to enjoy the rest later. Salad was very nice and was topped with kidney beans which made it more substantial than one usually gets at restaurants, so that was a plus, too. For dessert I had a heavenly piece of chocolate mousse cake - a layer of chocolate cake on the bottom half, and a layer of light mousse on the top. My husband had a very tasty lemon bar. The Princess Cake made during the spring was the highlight of our Easter dinner! Everything we purchased was so far above average!

Best bakery in the Turlock area-- maybe even in this part of the valley period. They have been around a while (ever since I can remember, which starts in the 1980s). Love their cookies and pastries. Their cakes are good if you like cake, I am not a huge cake fan. Often for family events we get an assorted box: cookies, lemon bars, apple pie bars, brownies... They have a number system to serve people. So make sure as you enter you grab a number from the little red machine by the cash register. Depending on the season and time of day you come, it can take a minute, because people in Turlock know this place is good. A must have if you're in the area. Yesterday I went here before going to a family party. They had seasonally decorated cookies, so autumn leaves, Halloween cookies and cupcakes, football team cookies and Hillarie & Trump cookies (thought those were funny). read more
