Came to Oak Barrel Ice & Creamery because I wanted to try all the ice cream places in Turlock. One of the creamiest scoops of ice cream ever! Located in Scandia Village - Oak Barrel is just a small little shop that packs huge flavor. The inside has one cramped table where two workers were chatting when we first arrived. They quickly moved to behind the counter to help us out. We ordered: Banana cream chunk - This tasted like ripe bananas with huge chocolate chunks. Super good. Blackberry balsamic - This was like a strawberry smoothie in ice cream form. Caramel crunch - The SO really enjoyed this one. It had big ol' pieces of praline. Service was great. I didn't feel rushed and I was able to try other flavors (red licorice tasted just like Red Vines!). They also had a black licorice that the SO would have enjoyed, but he didn't try it. I'm already planning another visit soon! read more

We came all the way from the Bay Area to Turlock just to try Oak Barrel Ice Cream, and it was absolutely worth the trip. The place is small but very cozy and welcoming. You immediately feel comfortable when you walk in. The staff was extremely friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. Most importantly, the ice cream was amazing -- very flavorful, creamy, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Every bite was delicious. If you're anywhere near Turlock, this place is definitely worth stopping by. We will definitely come back next time we're in the area. Highly recommended! read more

(red hot cinnamon candies, sweet-n-spicy cinnamon ice cream), MEXICAN CHOCOLATE (chocolate ice cream, cayenne pepper, cinnamon), DARK CHOCOLATE ITALIAN ICE: STRAWBERRY LEMON SORBET: LYCHEE, MEYER LEMON I can't believe I haven't reviewed Oak Barrel Ice & Creamery... a family favorite of my cousin & nephew, & now ours too! Greg Raynes is the Founder & Ice Cream Artisan, who shares his childhood joy of making ice cream with those around him. Oak Barrel Ice & Creamery was inspired from his memories of hand cranking ice cream with family in Carmel Valley... nothing beats sharing a delicious frozen treat after dinner -- agreed! When you enter the shop, you're hit with sweet scents of ice cream like baking spices from a bakery. Weird, huh? I haven't experienced this in other ice cream shops... I might need to pay attention to this in future visits, if it's only at Oak Barrel. The dining room, if you can even call it that, is tiny & holds a couple of rounds with a pair of chairs ea. The walls are splattered with a barrel pouring out ice cream cones & and adjacent wall with ice cream cones & cups of ice cream. The friendly & helpful server informed me that there's 8 Classic & 15 Specialty flavors, with their Monthly Features & Stay Longer flavors (monthly features that are extended slightly beyond the month). And the Sorbets are water based & non-dairy. If you didn't know, I love, love, love peaches... so of course, my fav is Peach. Soooooo peachy, rich & creamy! What was an interesting flavor was Red Hot Love! It's the red hot cinnamon candies made into sweet & spicy cinnamon ice cream & it works! I also love the lighter & refreshing Strawberry Lemon Italian Ice, a perfect balance of citrus & berry, & Lychee & Meyer Lemon Sorbets. The lychee was so fragrant & sweet, & meyer lemon had a nice citrus, tarty sweetness. My family are chocoholics, so Mexican Chocolate was favored by my husband & Dark Chocolate for the kids, who somehow managed a milk mustache even though it was ice cream & hot chocolate. LOL Hahaha... No matter the time of year or day, there's always room for ice cream from Oak Barrel Ice & Creamery! Still our favorite go to for ice cream. Most recently had the caramel crunch (I believe it was caramel and heath bars) shake and it was delicious! Perfect for the summer heat! The staff are always super helpful if you can't make a decision. I've seen that you can order ahead but we've never tried it. You can also get Sundaes, floats, quarts and pints to go. read more

We were on the last leg of our road trip which ended at 1491.5 miles over 7 days. Home to Bakersfield to Death Valley to Las Vegas to Barstow to home. We had debated whether to break up the drive by spending the night somewhere or to muscle out the 5.5 drive. Yes, we realize 5.5 hours isn't that long but why push it when you don't have to? Once we got going, we felt that we were alert enough go straight home. We did do as we always do and make several stops to stretch our legs and see some sights. We stopped at a Rest Stop and I looked up Ice Cream. Oak Barrel was rated pretty high and was very near by. GPS took us right to the restaurant. They were offering take-out only but that was okay with us. Since I was driving, I asked for a Coffee Milk Shake. Thin enough that I could suck it through a straw and thick enough to make me work for it. She got three scoops in a cup, Banana Walnut, Chip Mint and Rocky Road. All of the flavors were on point and delicious. We were impressed with the number of flavors listed on their board. All the usual suspects and a few more. I guess I should have taken a picture of the board. Service was friendly and efficient. I'm guessing that we were served by the owner/operator. At any rate, Oak Barrel is worth taking a detour off the freeway to get some great ice cream to help refresh you and break the tedium of a long drive. read more

Great ice cream flavors! I tried the pistachio, and the balsamic blackberry. They were both fantastic, the pistachio wasn't dyed green and had whole nuts mixed in, it was the best pistachio ice cream that I ever had, I bought a quart for later. The balsamic blackberry was very good as well, strong blackberry flavor with the bit of the balsamic vinegar on the end. Check them out, they're making great ice cream! read more

This place needs more than a 5 star max rating scale. If it were 0 to 10, Oak Barrel would easily rate 10+1 stars. Like someone said in another review...."its certainly not Coldstone" by any means but that's what makes it THE BEST! They do Ice Cream period, and they do it damn good! I love this place! The staff was friendly and the ice cream was so creamy!!! They offer a good amount of flavors to choose from, all that you can sample and try before you purchase (Highly recommend that you do that!). I shared a caramel crunch with the husband and boy do I regret sharing haha. I wish I had ordered more scoops. The Caramel Crunch was super creamy and the caramel taste wasn't overwhelming. I also noticed a woman with her kids sitting down having yogurt. We realized they were closing early because they had empty chairs upside down on the tables. My friends and I decided to have our yogurt on the tables outside to socialize and enjoy our yogurt. At 8;59 pm I noticed the mother that sitting with her kids on the table inside walking out of Yogolicious. She was asked to leave because they were closed. I could see the look on her face was in disbelief that they asked her to leave right away. We were sitting outside on one of the two tables outside when an employee confronted us and told us we couldn't sit down on the table. We asked her why, she said it would attract other people to sit at the other table. She also said that she would get in trouble if her manager found out that we were sitting there. I asked her then if she had the owners phone number. She didn't give me an answer, and went back inside. We finished our yogurt at the table. At 9:45 Pm the two employees locked the door and left. The yogurt was good, but honestly due to the rude service and attitude, i will never set foot in Yogolicious again. I never write reviews; But because this employee put a bad taste in my mouth, i felt it was necessary to let people know what poor service is given at this facility. I observed about eight people about 8:59 to 9:05 pm wanting to get some yogurt. The employees were more concerned about closing than last minute service. If this business goes out of business, It'll because of the poor service from their employees.

Central Valley peach and strawberry, caramel crunch, dark chocolate, coconut and Horchata. Oak Barrel just catered a party for my son's baseball team and all the kids and adults loved it.
