Multiple bad experiences. Used to love this place, especially for breakfast. Past four times have just been awful. We were seated in the loft area and completely forgotten about a year ago. Ended up leaving without ever being waited on, even after my husband went downstairs to ask if we could at least get our drinks. Tried again a few months later to be seated a table under a leak in the roof so there was a big metal pan on our two seater table full of water that kept splashing onto our plates and into our cups. We asked to be reseated and the waitress said she couldn't do that, despite the entire area appearing to be empty, including the table behind us which didn't appear to have a leak. Came back a few months after that with some friends from out of town, our waitress was curt and rude and brought the wrong order to our table. We brought it to her attention and she apologized and took it back, but didn't replace my meal, at all. I had to reorder after everyone else's food had come out. It'd been about a year since we went, so we tried it out to today, and I opened five separate creamers that were completely spoiled into a solid and green with mold. Our waitress apologized and said they had a whole box like that, but they didn't know which box, so they were just leaving them out for the customers to find, which is disgusting. Coffee was too watered down to be any good anyway. Ordered the California scramble and it came without the avocado and with extra onions, huge chunks of them, that aren't even listed as an ingredient and our blueberry muffins were stale. Like hard as rock on top, reheated too many times stale. I think it's fair to say we FINALLY learned our lesson. Doesn't matter that this is the only breakfast place in town, it's not worth risking a trip. read more

Olde Tymes Prime Rib (Take Out) has been a staple for me for quite some time now. Anytime I've been craving a homemade meal, at home, without having to cook, at home, they are my go to!. I recommend for sides; mashed potatoes and gravy, clam chowder, and side salad with their house dressing. Make sure to ask them to throw in a couple of biscuits!!! They also have an excellent breakfast special, with your own handle of java and a Norwich Bulletin, for less than $5. read more

She took forever to even get the order in.. when it got to five minutes to get TWO sandwiches in I gave up! My advice....Don't order take out. My mother and I had breakfast here on July 19th. We were in town that day, from South Carolina, for her brother, my uncles funeral. We were greeted by some very big smiles to start with. That was really nice considering the days plans. We were seated with a lovely lady name Michelle L. She was an absolute DOLL!! Our order was taken and within minutes our food arrived hot, fresh and delicious. Everyone was so friendly and kind. It was much appreciated. When we come back we will be sure to eat here again. Great meal! Unique decor! Friendly staff! We love this place. A local, one of a kind. Rustic style decorated with old sewing machines and other early to mid-20th-century items. Entrees come with 3 sides! And wide variety. I had a baked sweet potato. My entree was a good-sized baked seafood platter. Wife and I went on a Sunday at noon. Seated quickly, but noted that the restaurant decor and thus the atmosphere was dated, dirty and dingy. We hadn't been there in at least 10 years. We were seated on the "porch". First thing one does is turn the mug over to receive coffee. My mug was unwashed from someone's hot cocoa. My wife ordered breakfast (Eggs Benedict) and I ordered their "Sunday only" pot roast as lunch. The server was pleasant. After a seeming lengthy wait, the dishes were served, and in both cases the presentations were totally unappetizing. The Benedict had brown and green colors (broccoli) mostly uncovered with a tiny amount of anemic colored Hollandaise sauce. My pot roast "stew" presented a single 4oz chunk of beef served with a dry top, over many potatoes and carrots colored brown throughout by the watery, very salty brown broth. The meat was dry throughout. For something they feature as a Sunday-only special, the meal was both unappealing and underwhelming. Sad to say, this will be the last time we go to this restaurant. The restaurant stuck me as a once proud purveyor of good home cooking that was now surviving on its previous reputation only, serving carelessly prepared food with no attention to quality and presentation. Needs a total (Gordon Ramsey) shakeup of management and staff to bring this one back from the dead. read more

We moved to Norwich 5 years ago and immediately tried breakfast at Old Tymes. Hideous food! Eggs were hard and cold, bacon was precook end crap and even the bread was bad. Our waiters was an old man who desperately tried to make up for the food with service, even forcing a bag of blueberry muffins on us to take home to make up for the lack of breakfast eaten. We tipped him well, threw the bag in the trash and vowed never to return. After 4 years we finally worked up the courage to try again and THANK GOD WE DID! In the past 6 months we have been working our way through the breakfast menu, each one hot, fresh and delicious. They even make great grits! Today's were so soft and creamy, I think they were better than when I lived in Chattanooga, TN. The decor is typical down home country but the restaurant is clean, the staff friendly and caring (especially Ruthie) and breakfast (the only meals we've had there) consistently terrific. I don't normally write reviews and as a business owner myself the last thing I want to do is damage a business by leaving a bad review, but the owners need to wake up. Over the last 9 years the quality of food has gone significantly down. This used to be my go to place for prime rib. Tonight I ordered a 9 oz prime rib medium rare. Despite the awful salad I was served (brown romaine, 2 cherry tomatoes and 2 slices of cucumber) I was excited for my dinner. My plate came out with 5 oz of fat and 4 oz of well done meat. It was so tough my steak knife wouldn't cut through it. Eventually the waitress came around to ask how our food was. I told her the meat was so tough and dry I couldn't eat it. I NEVER send food back bc I work in a kitchen and know how people can act. But this was literally INEDIBLE. She was very nice about it and asked if I wanted to reorder it or have something else. I came in specifically for prime rib and told her so. I also said if all the meat was that well done I would order something else. In the meantime I sat there and watched my husband eat his entire meal. The second plate came out after he finished eating and it was exactly the same. Mostly fat and extremely tough meat. She did NOT come back to ask if it was ok. In the meantime I was starving so I picked at it. I wound up paying $14.99 to take my food home for my dogs to eat which I had to cut with my 10" chef knife it was so tough. I was still hungry after not being able to eat my food so I ordered a piece of pie which the menu said was freshly homemade. It was strawberry rhubarb. This pie might have been homemade... several moths ago. If you're going to pre prepare pies and call them fresh you should probably make sure they aren't frozen in the middle when you serve them. This really makes me sad because I loved this place. Now I won't be back. I understand food costs might change, HOWEVER, you need to either change your prices or your menu. Serving mostly fat and over cooked meat at the same price is a good way to lose customers. I wouldn't have had an issue paying $19 for prime rib that is well prepared and mostly meat with a bit of fat. $15 for 50/50 (at best!) meat to fat is unacceptable. Wake up and take care of your restaurant. And it's not very pleasant to sit in the front under a water damaged smelly ceiling either. Sad day today. read more

The breakfast wasn't bad but the service is poor. We were seated upstairs on 5/19/2012 and the waitress failed to give everyone menu's. She brought coffee cups that had garbage in them. When I ask for another her tone showed displeasure, as if it was my fault. The waitress did not check back after delivering our meal and never asked if we wanted water. We had to flag her down to ask for orange juice, which she forgot. I had tried dinner several times in the past with poor service and quality 3 times in a row. We love Ole Tymes! My family budgets 7 days out of the month to "eat out" and I can feed my family of 4 here for well under $30, which is unheard of anywhere. The service is good, and the food is great for the price. The decor is fun and we've never had to wait for seating no matter how busy. Its a great place to go out for a nice relaxing meal. My wife & went to Olde Tymes Restaurant for lunch about a week ago. It was our first time there. My wife ordered a cheeseburger with fries. I ordered a Rodney Burger with just coleslaw. No fries. We both agreed that our burgers were equal to the best we have ever had. REALLY!! We also liked the coleslaw and fries .On top of that the service was very good & friendly. The food was not expensive either. We live about 35-40 minutes drive away but we will be back. read more

WOW! I have to start with that. I can't believe this place....outstanding. A wide selection of meal choice. Everything had the appearance that is was prepared by your loving gramma. I never ever order meatloaf when I dine out. However, our waitress walked by with a plate of it and asked her what that smell was?....Her reply, The Meatloaf with mash. Well that's what I ordered. Incredible, literally destroyed every traditional meatloaf I ever ate. I felt like I was at home. The atmosphere is a traditionally 60's-70's attire and I feel that that's what give you that at home feeling. Better then here is the kicker, after I cleaned my plate, the waitress asked if we where interested in house homemade pies.....UM YES PLEASE. It was the perfect ending to a phenomenal meal. The only getting this place stars is the quality of there food. It is good food for sure. The problem is the staffing. There was a line when I went there for a late breakfast, no problem there. We checked in and were told that it would be 10-15 min wait. OK, i understand. The issue was that there was at least 10 empty tables. 10! So, about 10 minutes later the women at the cash register yells upstairs to the waitress that we are coming up. There is a bit of back and forth between them about whether or not we should be going to her section, that ends with eye rolling and teeth clicking. When we were seated, my table new what we wanted as soon as the waitress came over to take our drink order. I told the waitress that I would be having the coffee and apple juice that came with my meal (if forget the name of it, but it was like a pancake sandwich with eggs and sausage in between). My friend ordered a coffee and the ultimate breakfast sandwich. The waitress told us she would not take our order, because there were other people waiting. That just blows my mind. She just wouldn't take out order. So, whatever, she came back later and took our order and the food was good. But the meal was not enjoyable. Maybe this was a one time thing, but it was unseemly for a restaurant that has been featured on The Food Network. I guess I would go back, but only if I was invited by someone else. I will not be going there if I am the one choosing the spot. read more

Staff indifferent to customers, seemed inconvenienced by us. Food was mediocre. Liver and onions was so overcooked it couldn't be cut with a chainsaw. Sent it back with indifferent waitress and a very insincere apology. It wasn't much better upon return. Rest of food was mediocre at best. I don't even want to know what the kitchen looks like. We just got home from having the WORST meal ever!! I ordered a broiled seafood platter( fish, scallops, and shrimp. Sides supposed to be 3, only got 2.) Corn was gray and the mashed potatoes must have had a pound of salt in them. Totally unedible! My shrimp were burned to the plate and the fish and scallops again were totally waaaaaaaay over salted. My entire dinner must have contained at least 2 pounds of salt. Our appetizer(potato skins were very obviously microwaved) and were totally lacking in crispiness and flavor. Our waitress was very personable and kept apologizing for the delay and the lousy food (blamed it on the fact that they got slammed- 10 people) I waited 20 minutes for a cup of coffee.... so very obviously we WILL NEVER return to olde tymes or reccomend them to any one we know read more

Deb was extremely accommodating with meetings to discuss details for the catering of our wedding. She had great advice and suggestions to make sure our day went smoothly. We had about 135 guests. Olde Tymes handled set up, staff, hors d'oeuvres, the meal, and the bar. We didn't have a worry during the reception; everything was taken care of. We got nothing but great feedback about the food and overall service at our wedding. We highly recommend! read more

I have given this place way too many chances. I know that a bad cook can ruin an experience so I tried multiple different times and days. The only consistency was the need to use the restroom soon after. I was either vomiting or got the runs. No other place has made me feel so ill. For a business in existence as long as this place I would expect better service especially in the kitchen. The only thing I truly enjoyed was the decorations so if I ever go there again I will just get a water and look at the walls. read more
