Been going here for about 6 yrs now. Always great food here ... the pizzas, the calzones and the dinners. The Chicken Parm dinner is HUGE .. and for $9.95 you get 2 pieces of real chicken over ziti, salad and bread. Now I can eat . and I can never finish a whole dinner from here ! I always have enough for the next day. The only thing I don't understand is the 'e' on the end of 'Olde' ... that's so not necessary.. LOL! The pizza itself was soggy and the entire middle of the pizza was sticking to the box, it didn't have any flavor and the worst part is that we didn't know the box was so soaked through that it ruined our wood table. Very good New Haven style Pizza. Cash only though no Credit Cards. I had the Sausage and Mushroom and their Sausage is almost as good as Zupps down in West Haven and Better that Pepe's. Started getting messy pies after being a regular customer for awhile. Tried to talk to the owner and he was nothing but rude. As I was talking with him the last customer comes back in with her messed up pie as well. Owner acted childish and wouldn't listen to either of us. I'll never go back there again. This is absolutely my go to pizza maker....the best around....Would have given 5 stars if only talking about pizza..... That said, i recently bought some dinners there that simply put, were pretty bad...the eggplant was HEAVILY breaded...hard to find any eggplant amongst all the bread crumbs ( which should NEVEr be used to make eggplant..try flour and an egg wash ) i took a couple of bites and threw it out....The chicken parm wasn't a lot better. A great big FAIL. I have had enough of this place. Been a customer since they opened, but after having my last pizza, it will indeed be my LAST. I have had to return 2 pies in the last month due to them being under cooked. The whole thing was a soupy mess, overcooked on the edge but wet and soggy everywhere else. Before I even left, I asked the young cashier why the bottom of the box was wet, she said it was probably 'oil', note-no cardboard under the pie to soak up this 'oil'. Well, got it home and it was sopping wet, a flaccid mess. Picked up a slice and it drooped over , everything on top slid right off. When we called them we were offered a remake. My elderly mother went to pick it up, brought back the bad one and was met with a nasty rude owner, who tried to insist there was nothing wrong with it! Told her if she wanted it crisp, she should have ordered it well done! (In the past if you order it well done, they overcook it.) Seems he can't handle his own oven, or maybe the high school kids he has there are making them without supervision. The owner was very argumentative, hostile and downright rude man . After 20 years I'll never spend another dime here, not when there are so many other pizza joints around. Arrogant owners such as this need to learn to keep the quality of what they sell up to snuff, not rely on us regulars because if you are not enjoying what you are doing, and not paying attention to kitchen essentials, you will fail. Old World Apizza at 1957 Whitney Ave., North Haven Connecticut is by far the absolute best pizza anywhere including New Haven. You always get a consistent product. The pies happily cook in a 700° oven the crust has a perfect char, great flavor and the sauce cheese ratio is always spot on. I grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, so I have a few ideas about how pizza should taste. To my mind, a great pizza tastes great without additional toppings, and that's how we always ate it in Brooklyn. I have nothing against pepperoni etc, but they can help a lesser pizza taste good - a great pizza doesn't need toppings. When we moved to Hamden last year, we tried Pepe's and Sally's on Wooster St. because of their reputation. Good pizza, but definitely not worth the the lines and hassle. Then we tried Olde World, which is about a half mile from us. Wow, we said, this is as good as Brooklyn pizza, and there's no line! Slightly burnt crust, yummy cheese, but it's the sauce that really gives it such great flavor! The first time we tried them we ate there, which was good 'cause the pizza was hot right from the oven. But the place isn't that nice, just three wobbly tables real close to all the people coming in for takeout. So now we takeout all the time. If you're into standing on long lines to get into the trendy places, go to Wooster St. Otherwise Olde World can't be beat! read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Their customer service sucks! We ordered from this place because we heard they had the best gluten free crust. It was awful--the edges were burnt but the rest was not even cooked. My wife called to talk with them, thinking they would offer to make a new one--like a normal company with good customer service would. Instead the guy told her: "Well I guess you don't have to come her anymore!" and hung up. This guy is an a$$hole and I will never give them a dime again. Ordered takeout from here and the place was hopping with orders for pickup. The pizza was very good....I'd say very similar to Paul and Eddy's in Hamden. It's definitely "New Haven style" with the charred brick-oven flavor that is very popular in this area and the toppings were of good quality and plentiful. As many others have said, the only knocks are that it is cash only (very odd for 2015 but apparently not limiting given how busy it was) and the lack of delivery. It's also not a place you'd want to hang out in and eat SO, all things being equal, there are other more convenient options BUT this place does make a damn good pizza. read more

We went here on the way home from new haven based on the great reviews and pictures. We love our pizza nice and crispy and cooked well. This looked right up our alley !!We were excited and looking forward to it. We arrived 55 minutes before closing. The waitress was nice enough but on her phone pretty much full time. We ordered onion pepperoni and meatball. I said to the waitress " I would say well done but the pictures look like u guys cook it well done automatically. That's perfect for us". Not much comment and she put the order in. Our pizza came ( I should have taken a picture ) soggy. Greasy and undercooked. When it arrived I hesitated and said to my other half. Gee. That isn't even really cooked. I'm surprised. The waitress just walked away. We just dealt with it and ate as much as we could as we were starving from a day away. But was very disappointed. Delicious thin crust pizza from a real brick oven. Olde World uses the freshest ingredients and doesn't skimp on the toppings. Meatballs are homemade and the crust is nicely charred. The flavors are outstanding. Some favorites are chicken and artichoke and clam casino. And you can't go wrong with the sausage and mushroom. I can honestly say that Olde World is my favorite pizza. Ok this review is purely about the SERVICE I received (or didnt receive)....This is my 2nd time ordering pizza from here, I remember the first time i noticed the service was sub par due to the carelessness of the personnel behind the counter (young kids). However the pizza was above average so i went back. Anyways, I ordered 2 large plain pies then called back literally 5 mins later to increase my order to 3 large pies & therefore would get the party special which is buy 3 large 1 topping pizzas & get a large plain + salad for free or whatever... So when i called to do that 5 mins later ( i checked my call history) I was told the pizzas were already in the oven & toppings couldnt be added to them. Ok im fine w that. Just put toppings on the 3rd pizza right? Its all the same . NO! The girl told me no it doesnt work like that... REALLY? Its the same price either way! So after that brief discussion I determined that i was talking to a completely unreasonable person. Now im pissed bc i can EASILY tell them to eat those 2 pies but bc of time i was expecting company shortly and didnt have time to go elsewhere. So when i went to pick them up I saw who i was talkin to and questioned her on the difference between payig for 3 large 1 topping pizzas & 2 large plain + 1 large 3 topping pizza... She was totally uninterested & shrugged me off. I told her i would have paid the same price & that its BAD SERVICE. Now the difference is a BAD REVIEW & I will let many ppl know about this. Look i know this is a long read but its he principle. I myself am a small business owner & customer service is the difference maker with MOST ppl. Best New Haven pizza outside of New Haven. I have never had a bad pie from this place. They always use fresh ingredients nothing from cans. Hands down one of my favorite take out joints around. A great alternative when you can't get in to New Haven's Modern, Pepe's, or Sally's. We actually ate in here - there are three tables, and the pizza was excellent. Came out quick, toppings were quality, and the crust was awesome and reminiscent of the three mentioned above. I'm from the Bronx, lived in NYC for a decade after that. The thing about NYC is there are far more bad pizzeria than good but growing up in NYC and living there until about 30 I can safely say CT Pizza is pretty bad. The new haven pizza places are artisanal not traditional. All you people who put a ton of crap on already marginal pizza then attempt to review it, ugh. Being in the food business has been agonizing for me. Italian food here in general is awful. So when I find this little hole in the wall with proud cantankerous owners I feel comfortable with that. These guys have stiff competition all around, a tough location and asses like me who really believes with all my heart CT people have bad taste in food and the pizza sucks. Modern pizza for all the hype was as bad as Pepe mushy crust no good. To my amazement these guys at old time made me a personal pizza. 4.95. Crust was solid crunchy and perfectly cooked. The dough which they make is everything, very good. cheese not too overpowering very tasty and sauce wasn't overloaded with sugar. That's it 3 ingredients perfectly done, very freaking tasty. All you morons adding pepperoni , chicken, pineapple, bbq sauce that's not pizza. The only toppings acceptable are sausage, peppers onions and mushrooms, anything else ruins the pie. Stop ruining the pie. Old time is a home run, all bad reviews are from people who should be banned from eating pizza. Go to Pizza Hut. Give your tastebuds back to god they are not working. Called in a takeout order on Saturday evening for a red pie with eggplant and sausage. Staff made it promptly and it was ready when said it would be. The crust was thin and slightly charred at the edges as a good New Haven style pizza should be. Sauce was sweet, ingredients were fresh (they have the crumbly sausage with fennel!!), and the woman working at the counter was friendly. They had a cooler fully stocked with Foxon Park sodas. Price was competitive for the area and definitely a good value for the quality. Tough to beat! read more
