Oldestone has a tough job replacing Marsha's. The food, ambiance, staff and service were spectacular. Tonight we went there for the first time, there wasn't a single aspect I'd say was improved upon. I ordered a Manhattan and it came the color of a watered down Ice tea. The nystrip wasn't appropriately trimmed, and came at the wrong temp. It also wasn't seasoned. I asked if the sides were family style, was told yes and needless to say the 5 broccolini sprigs appeared to be a single serving. The updated decor is soulless, staff didn't know the menu or beer list... when I ordered a Pellegrino, and everyone else had water ... he seemed to instantly forget and fill everyone's still with my sparkling. Met friends at Oldestone last night to listen to the music in the bar area and order dinner. The music was great, but the service and the food were so below average and incredibly overpriced. I ordered a burger which was $22.00 with absolutely nothing else on the large white plate but a burger! My friend ordered the short ribs, but there were no bones and it looked like a piece of overcooked steak with no marbling whatsoever. I also ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc at the bartenders suggestion. She didn't tell me the price prior to serving it to me and when I got the bill it was $28.00 a glass! I nearly fell off my chair. To top it off the valet parking is a flat $20.00 (which used to be $10) plus a tip. First impressions of the re-done interior were that there were definitely upgrades, but the general layout was the same as Marsha's. The couches are no longer in the dining area, but were moved to the loft Jazz lounge. Ambiance and interior would garner 4 stars from me. Food We ordered: A dozen oysters of 3 varieties (4 stars)- The highlight of the meal French Onion Soup (3 stars)- very solid and hot Lobster Bisque (1 star) - gritty and cold 8 and 12 oz filets (3 stars)- Decent, but incredibly overpriced for what you get; also lukewarm Twice Baked potato (1 star) - tasteless and cold Cream of Spinach (2 stars) - lukewarm and so so Key Lime Tart (3 stars)- Incredibly small All of the food took a VERY long time and every one of the hot items were lukewarm to room temperature. Dont mind the dinner taking time, but expected hot items when served. Drinks The Gaspar (4 stars). - very cool smoked drink The Sour (2 stars) Moscato (3 stars) Service Our waiter was polite, informed and mostly on point. It was dinner to celebrate our Anniversary and they did sprinkle the table with rose petals, which was a nice touch(3 stars) We used Valet because it was raining and while they were fast to retrieve our car, they were actually too fast. Whipping the car onto Main St, NOT opening the door for my wife was weird, and just felt a but careless (2 stars) It pains me to say this, but I do not recommend going here. A church turned restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere. On the second floor there is a beautiful mural, blue mood lights, a grand staircase and lots of stained glass. [1] Scallops with romanesco broccoli and coconut rice: This was a perfect dinner portion. The romanesco broccoli was super unique and a cool texture. [2] Rose shaped butter: I thought this extra detail with dinner was beautiful. [3] Lobster bisque: I love when I get dinner and a show! Great atmosphere and menu. The menu had a wide variety steaks and seafood to choose from. The bar menu also had a wide variety of specialty drinks and whiskeys. My son and I each got a 10 ounce fillet that was cooked to perfection. My wife chose salmon with a Caesar salad which was also very good. Our server Andrew was exceptional. We had a great time there. The only down side it was extremely expensive. For our party of 3 it was over $400. Buyer beware, they charge you for ice $3 per drink. read more

I am writing this review because I felt ripped off - which is rare. Overpriced and sub par food. We ordered drink specials ($16 each?!?). which were just OK. They charged for water. . . .$6 for plain water! 4 pan seared scallops on some bland polenta like mass was $44!! It was listed at 'MP' on the menu. But $44 for 4 scallops?!? My dinner mate ordered salmon- overcooked.....but they charged $22 extra for Oscar style. . . .$22?!? The creamed spinach was out of a can or frozen ... and they didn't give you much. The bill for 4 drinks, 1 appetizer and 2 entrees with 2 shared sides with no dessert was $205. There are many, many great places to go in New Hope. . . .we left Goldstone and went back to Odetts where we had drinks before and got amazing desserts. Very good steakhouse, some of the best cooked cuts of meat that I've had in the area, and I've enjoyed their specials, especially their more inventive salads. We had a good, maybe not outstanding time there. The ambiance is interesting; it's a bit too vacuous and overwhelming for me in some ways, but it felt better once the evening went on, we imbibed our drinks, and the house became packed. I was impressed by the manager, who seemed to enjoy a good rapport with his staff and checked on each of the tables without being obsequious about it. Our drinks arrived late, as my wine (a special of the night) took a very long time to be served, but it was worth the wait, as it had a deep and resonate body. Our appetizers were excellent, especially the oysters, and my steak, a petit filet mignon was cooked to perfect and I ordered two sides to provide some substance, otherwise, it would've looked lonely on its formidable plate. My dining partners shared a red velvet cake for dessert, which they gave good reviews although one mentioned it had tasted as though it sat in the fridge for a bit too long which left a bad proverbial taste in my mouth. We arrived during the holiday season, so they had decorated the place seasonably and left little bells at each person's seat, which was a pleasant touch and provided a warming ambiance to the establishment. Wife and I had dinner here a few nights ago. We arrived about 15 mins early for our reservation so we had a martini in the bar . Wife had the art deco and I had a dirt martini. Both were excellent and our table was ready right as we were finishing them . The place has a cool retro vibe that we both liked a lot. Our waitress Jessica was amazing. Very friendly and knowledgeable. She absolutely made our evening with her kindness. We ordered the Shishito peppers and thick cut bacon to start . Both were excellent. Also they have some of the best turnover/rolls that I've ever had . You will have more than one basket (I promise) . Wife had the lobster bisque and a baked potato and I had the pork chop with truffled mushrooms . This was the best cooked pork chop I've ever had in a restaurant. Was absolutely perfect. Everything we ordered was just spot on . We split the crème brûlée and Jessica was kind enough to bring us a decaf Americano on the house. Perfect way to end the meal . I will not comment on the service since we went on a Tuesday and they looked under staffed. We went to celebrate my wife's birthday tonight . We ordered two cocktails, house salads, cowboy ribeye bone in, petit filet, order of mashed potato's and brussel sprouts. steaks were ordered either medium rare or medium. Salads were good. Otherwise, all of the food was under seasoned. Mash potatoes were clumpy and very starchy, Brussels sprouts needed salt. The steaks were not what I expected for $60 and $70 each. My ribeye looked and tasted more like my strip with a bone. Very disappointed! Filet was not tender. Sauces were very good. Don't think we will go back. Service was great ... Ambience is great. Food not so much so. The crab cakes were really bad. I am not sure what they did to the squash that was under it, but it was even worse than the crab cakes. The pork chop was large but it was bland, it would have been better if it were not quite as thick and maybe a bit of seasoning. Gorgeous building with live music on multiple floors of this redone church right downtown. Waitress was very nice! Problem with ordering and delivery of correct food. No scallops so had to pivot to grouper which was super tasty. When our food came, both sides were fully wrong. Asparagus came instead of broccolini and a plain baked potato instead of loaded. (Bummer to both). Manager informed us they were out of broccolini and said we can just keep the asparagus instead of offering us the ability to select a new veggie. For the potato he left and returned with a potato that was loaded but with blue cheese instead of cheddar. That is intolerable to someone who hates blue cheese. Best high-end steakhouse I've eaten at in awhile. We made a reservation Christmas Eve and invited some friends and family. When you first walk In the managers and hostess greeted you and made you feel special with bells and a luxury ambiance. Our table was reserved upstairs in front of the mural which was interesting to look at throughout dinner. (Good for date idea because you always have something going on to look at and talk about) Food was really simple and nice and my strip steak was cooked correctly. Wow what an enormous disappointment at Oldestone for my son's birthday dinner. My son got the 10 oz filet and mashed potatoes. They were fine. I got the steakhouse salad which was poorly executed. Three very tiny very thin slices of beef tenderloin - two of the were 100 fat and the third was like leather. And a salad portion that was like a side salad not an entree salad. My girlfriend wanted salmon. She was going to order the regular salmon dish on the menu but we were told of a salmon special: an 8 oz filet of wild caught king salmon! Well it arrives and I wish I had a scale. If that tiny piece of salmon was 3oz I would be surprised. And horribly overcooked probably because it was so tiny. All this and two glasses of wine plus tip for $230. No more. Honestly I would avoid. The attraction here is the building only not the food. There are way too many other places nearby where you'd get a better meal and a better value. read more

Had an anniversary dinner with our son and his wife last evening. The staff was very attentive. Our waiter was a five star. My daughter-in-law's drink arrived with a sharp chip in the rim. Then came our dinner. My daughter-in-law is vegetarian which I feel should not be difficult for a good restaurant to handle. She had the only meal offered, a cauliflower steak. What came was a large head of steamed cauliflower. I feel the effort put into this dish was a zero, no spices or sauce no imagination. It is embarrassing when guests laugh and comment on your choice. Our fillets were over cooked tough and flavorless. Our dog will enjoy them. Our desert, thank goodness was very well done. Through out this our waiter was excellent. So, I asked for a standard Manhattan w/ Larceny Bourbon (a fairly inexpensive brand). My partner asked for a dirty martini with Belvedere vodka (an upgrade). Got the bill ... ouch! Manhattan was rung up as signature cocktail ($16) plus premium ($5). Martini the same ... signature cocktail price plus $5 premium. I asked the bartender why a common Manhattan would come to $21 ... answer with demeaning attitude "I know my bourbons ... that's what the owner wants me to charge." We were looking for a good steakhouse experience. We didn't find it. When I go to a steakhouse the ONE thing I expect is to have a steak cooked to requested temperature - in this case, medium rare. The filet Mignon I ordered came out a solid medium. The taste was bland because of absolutely no seasoning. Others is our party ordered the pork chop. It was delivered undercooked and had to be returned for refiring. So to summarize so far, the steaks were overdone and the pork underdone. Isn't the ability to deliver properly cooked meat "steakhouse 101?" The chicken dish was misrepresented on the menu. It was described as a chicken breast, but a half chicken was presented. The white meat had a mushy consistency - it wasn't undercooked- but was definitely off, taste wise. One bright spot was the Halibut, though the portion looked small. So, the only entree properly cooked at this "steakhouse" is the fish - go figure.... As far as the service, the appetizers were partially delivered and the server forgot one desert order. I suggest the waitstaff actually write down orders instead of relying on memory. Our waiter was difficult to locate when we needed to get our orders corrected. The dinner lasted about an hour longer than it should have For the money charged, this was a big disappointment. They had better improve or I don't think the restaurant will survive. Maybe an indicator is that we dined on a Saturday night and the dining room was only half full. Maybe word is already out? I won't be a repeat customer. read more

Meatballs were average, nothing to write home about. The meatballs were slightly below par compared to ikea meatballs. The bisque was chunky and not smooth, smaller chunks of veggies. Not a traditional bisque by any means but still had some decent flavour. That was it. Didnt make it to mains. 9:25 no mains served. Tables cleared and knives down pending dinner but still no food. Asked about food, manager was condescending. He tried to explain fine dining to me, in a tropical tommy bahama shirt. Dinner never came. We requested to go. We left after paying the check. Great time in the bar yesterday late afternoon with great drinks, food and service! We were a group of 6 and Emily set us up with a high top in the bar which has a very cool look and feel. Emily and Michael took excellent care of us for a few hours. The drinks were a little different takes on some standards and were delicious. We ordered a number of things from the bar and regular menu - chopped salad, lobster mac and cheese, cheeseburger, filet mignon and French onion soup. Absolutely would order the chopped salad, mac n cheese and burgers again; portions were large and fresh and delicious. The steak and soup were good also but not as good as the other items.
