I really would like to give this place 1 star based on my experience tonight. But, I'm going to chalk this experience up as one os those bad nights we all have.... We arrived with a party of 4 on a Saturday night at 630pm. We were seated right away with the option of inside or outside. The place was mildly crowded, but still had plenty of open tables. The server we had was attentive -- brought us water, delivered a drink menu promptly. We placed a drink order and the Mezze appetizer special... and that's where everything went downhill. The drinks (1 cocktail, 1 glass of wine) took over 30 minutes to arrive. The appetizer took over 45 minutes to arrive. When it did arrive, it didn't include everything that was listed on the menu. No biggie - it was mostly right and we were all starving by this point. When the appetizer arrived, we finally had the opportunity to place our dinner selections. We had decided on a gyro wrap, gyro platter, Shawarma platter, and the steak (prepared rare). After this point, we didn't see our server again for over 45 minutes. We were all chatting and not paying attention to the time. But, as customers around us starting getting up and leaving before getting their food, or yelling for service, we realized it had been over 45 minutes and there was no update on our food. After the mass exodus, our server came over and apologized for the delay. He said they had a party of 20 and a party of 10 inside that just left, so the kitchen was behind. He promised our food would be ready momentarily. 30 minutes later, still no food. Almost all of the other tables around us had left. He came over again and said there was a major hiccup happening in the kitchen, and he appeared very flustered and upset. He told us our entire check was comped if we wanted to wait a little longer for our food. We decided to just wait since we had already been here for over 2 hours anyway. We finally got our food after almost 3 hours! Unfortunately, when the food came out the platters were missing sauces or pita bread, the rare steak was actually well done, and the gyro wrap had some interesting ingredients in it. Our server came over and was just beside himself when he realized everything was wrong. But, at this point, we didn't even both trying to remedy the situation. We ate what we could and left. The food was subpar at best, was lacking basic flavors and seasonings, and tasted very salty. The food winners of the night: the hummus dip and the french fries. I wanted to really like this place. It has a nice atmosphere with an option to sit outside. Other reviewers found their experiences to be great. The servers were all really pleasant, but were clearly being overworked. I'm not sure if we just came on a bad night, or if this is the decline of this neighborhood gem. We greatly appreciated them attempting to rectify the situation by comping the bill, but I don't foresee a restaurant lasting long when all the remaining tables in the place are being comped. Hopefully they can learn from this experience. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place to anyone. I will not be returning to see if they did remedy anything. read more

We started with buffalo cauliflower which was awesome. I had the gyro flatbread which I really liked. My husband has the gyro platter and was disappointed. Neither one of us has ever seen gyro meat with peppers and onions- his fault for not fully reading the description. The bummer came when I asked if the Baklava was homemade- our waitress said no then quickly changed it to a yes- said all the cakes come from a bakery but we make the baklava. We like to support local businesses and were glad to see a new restaurant in Laurel. Unfortunately, this is where it ended. There were four of us at the bar waiting for a table. I ordered a watermelon martini; my wife ordered a mojito. My martini was straight alcohol with two tiny pieces of watermelon. I could not drink it. The mojito was worse. No simple syrup, a piece of mint-done. The bartender (a middle aged woman was not sure how to make any of these drinks and it tasted like it). We went to the table and the waiter came over and started with his "gangsta"-like tone. He was a nice enough fellow and I don't know why he was trying tthis o speak like a rapper. He took our order- a Mediterranean type dip for an appetizer (sloshy and served with enough packaged pita triangles for no more than one each). My salmon was overdone and very small. My wife's pork tenderloin was flat and had very little taste. Our friends had crab cakes . They said they enjoyed them. I say, really hard to mess up. The desserts were brought in from somewhere else-.blah. The owner came over and told us he had another place in Takoma Park. I could hardly believe it. You would think they would have their efficiencies worked out. I was ready to leave and said nothing. My wife did make a suggestion about the drinks. I spent a career as an Army Infantry Officer and it takes a lot for me to complain about food, but let this review be a warning to others. Sorry! read more

Wow. Ive been here twice and I wish I knew sooner. Perhaps someone recommended it but there is a bar named too similar and I always assumed they were the same place. They have rotating beer selections but they go beyond offering standard beers. The most amazing aspect is the food! So far everything has been amazing. The greek food is excellent choice, especially if you are in the mood for gyros. As for the other food, well its also amazing. The stuffed burgers as so mouth watering-ly juicy, the quesadilla is not only thicker than most places but they give you two, and, if you just want something different, the sweet potato tater tots are so delicious. I plan to try more of their food but so far I've loved it so much it's going to be hard to try something new. The place closes early so its not a bar, but more of a restaurant with a bar. They also have a lot of local art on the walls if you like a place that supports the community around it. read more

Solid spot! Came here for happy hour with a co-worker and we sat at on of the hightops next to the bar. The bartender was our server and he came over quick, although later on, when the bar was busier, it did take a little work to catch his eye. I had calamari and shared half the crab dip. Both were good, not phenomenal but I enjoyed them. My $5 pomegranate martini was tasty, very sweet. Actually kind of tasted like jell-o. Which leads me to believe it wasn't very strong. This was our 2nd visit, and we brought a friend and my son (in from college). It was the first time for our friend and my son. The food was even better this time, and the service was exceptional and catered to us. We got good advice on beers, loved them. I had the chicken kabobs, which were outstanding, my son had a stuffed burger, which he loved. Our friend had the lamb chops and was exceedingly impressed and wants to come back. I highly recommend Olive on Main. Everything I've ordered from them so far as been delicious and generously portioned. I'm especially fond of the Southwest Eggrolls with Chipotle Mango sauce, the Buffalo Cauliflower, and Baba Ghanoush as starters. This was my first time at Olive on Main and for restaurants in Laurel, I thought it was great. Atmosphere was warm and friendly. It feels like a neighborhood restaurant that you could easily go to at least once every week. Our server was attentive and nice. Took our drink order right away and told us about the daily specials. We started off with the fried mushrooms. Amazing. Very fresh, battered perfectly and not over fried. It wasn't greasy either and came with a delicious dipping sauce. Most fried mushrooms on a menu start off frozen, but not these. We also ordered the crab dip with corn chips. Also very good and full of crab meet and the chips were warm and fresh. Some chips were a little salty, but not to the point that we left any behind. I had the chicken kabob and my wife had the fish tacos, which was one of the specials. Every ingredient tasted very fresh. My chicken was well seasoned, tender and great with the fresh tzatziki sauce. Basmati rice was cooked perfectly. I did try my wife's grilled tilapia fish taco and it too was very flavorful and perfectly seasoned. The slaw salad on the side was the only surprising thing that didn't taste great. It was way too sour, but luckily our stomachs were already full and happy with everything else that we ate. All in all, we would definitely come here again. It's rare these days to leave a restaurant where the host actually takes the time to say goodbye to you and thanks you as well. She also topped it off by holding the door for us. I would have given them 4.5 stars if yelp had that option. I reserve 5 stars for when I've been somewhere multiple times and the place is great on food, service and consistency. read more

I have visited this establishment only but one time and I must say, it was a memorable experience. The hospitality is 5 star along with the quality of the food is almost impossible to find elsewhere in the area. The menu and options are very unique and ranges from all different types of dishes and freshness is obviously present. I visited this place spare of the moment by myself and the service was great my waiter was attentive there was no wait because it was Tuesday. I ordered the special which was the Classic burger and fries and my food came out fast and my drink was excellent. I ordered a pomegranate martini and a watermelon martini. If you are looking for a place with strong drinks then this is your place, I moved to Laurel a few months ago and I think I've found my new neighborhood bar. Great service, great food. We just moved to MD from NYC so our standards are skewed. Olive on Main didn't let us down. I went with my wife and son the other night, I had the Kifta and my wife had the crab cake. My son had the beer cheddar soup. All of it was great, so ofter kifta is dry and overcooked. This was juicy and flavorful with a great grilled flavor. Did I mention they have great nightly specials? $13 for a bottle of Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio on the night we went. Can't beat it. read more

I came here based on a friend's recommendation. She lives in the area and dines here often. We came for happy hour on Columbus Day. I arrived around 4pm and the place was empty except for one other couple. The inside is a basic bar set up, nothing fancy. The happy hour was very reasonable...the draft beer was only $3.50 and they let you sample before selecting which one you want. I also got the wings (which were very good) in their new garlic Parmesan sauce. I got them cooked hard, and they were perfect and flavorful. We also tried the buffalo cauliflower, which was just ok...it tastes like how it sounds. Lastly, I got the spinach dip which was also just ok. We sat at the bar (happy hour is throughout the entire restaurant, which is nice) and the service was great. The bartenders were very friendly and even let us try a whiskey-soaked cherry, which was amazing! I would definitely visit here again for happy hour. read more

Excellent local spot. The service is great. Attentive but not overly intrusive. The Chopped Mediterranean Salad was worth the trip. I also had a chicken kabob and was pleased. The chicken was in generous chunks and nicely cooked on wooden skewers. Sometimes, chicken cooked this way can be over done but not here - it was just right. The setting in what I would call old town Laurel is pleasant. Nothing like the busy suburban strip restaurants that are only a Mike away. This place is since oasis from the sprawl. Love this spot!! Right in the heart of historic Laurel, Olive on Main brings a Cheers-like charm to the area. I started coming there for the "Meet the Artist" events they hold showcasing local art and will keep coming back for the good food, good drinks and outside patio. Visited here for the first time this Sunday with my Wife. We just happened to be in the area and someone recommended it. Nice, quaint, little restaurant. Food and drinks were excellent, Service was exceptional, atmosphere was very nice and friendly. Good blend of Mediterranean and Continental flare with a few items that you don't find anywhere (like the stuffed hamburger). I will definitely be coming back here again (though I live almost an hour away) because I just really enjoyed it that much! Compliments to our Waiter. I don't know how this place has so many stars. The food was awful. I ordered the most simple diner and they couldn't get it rite. A house salad with no cheese and honey mustard dressing. A burger in which I asked if it were a patty or frozen and told its made fresh there every day. I wanted a burger medium with no cheese. First I GR get a salad with cheese in it and Italian dressing and a burger that was over cooked with cheese. I send that burger back and not even 30 seconds later I get a flat over cooked burger with half rotted avocado. I sent it back and ordered nothing else. Not one person on the staff apologizing for messing up the meal or offed to make it rite!? It took more than 15 minuets to make the first burger which was wrong so how do you make a replacement burger in less than 30 seconds?? What a bad experience. At least now I know where not to ever go or recommend. I could get the same meal at McDonald's for a tenth of the cost. Chris I appreciate the fact that you took the time to respond to my post. Everything we ordered was fresh and full of flavor. We started out with the battered mushrooms. They came with a dipping sauce and were excellent! For our main courses, my husband ordered the gyro platter and I got a caesar salad. The only downside was the slow service. I even had to flag down our waiter for a refill after our glasses sat empty for quite some time. However, I don't believe it was his fall. They seemed to be operating on a very small staff. The servers were not only waiting on tables, they were greeting guests and bussing tables. We never saw them standing still for a moment. The problem was there just weren't enough of them to go around. This restaurant has great potential - just would be nice to see them focus in on details (like service) a bit more. read more
