I found to be more of a hamburger stand than a martini bar. Good food but the name is misleading.

When I do a review, I try to offer constructive criticism in a way that's not disrespectful, angry, or grudging. One restaurant in Orlando was really thankful for the feedback and remarked that they'd use it to improve things. Not sure Olive or Twist will feel that way but I do intend for this to be practical information that might be used to improve things. I first want to say that they have fair, reasonable prices for their menu items. I wanted to try them because I had read the stellar reviews about their brunch items. However, I was not able to make it during brunch hours and the Uber menu did not have anything brunchy so I figured I'd settle for what was available. I ordered the iceberg Wedge Salad, which had blue cheese crumbles, chopped egg, applewood smoked bacon, grape tomatoes, chives and buttermilk blue cheese dressing (DELICIOUS!). It was inexpensively priced at $8.00 but adding a protein was an extra $7-8 charge. I was fine with just the bacon and blue cheese, and the hefty salad was great, given the dressing and toppings...BUT...they left off the onions that I requested. I don't generally eat salads without onions so I was really disappointed. I called to let them know because I always give a place a chance before venting online about something and I'm usually rewarded with a makeover of my dish or something to make things right. NOT this time. She did apologize (thanks for that) but said she had two things to tell me: 1) They'd been out of red onions and could do nothing about that; 2) I had ordered extra toppings, also, none of which they'd had. They basically blamed it on Uber and said they'd contact them about updating their menu. Their "two things" were also my first and second strike. Strike 3 was the horrendous Braised Short Rib Eggrolls. First, let me say that the pepper jelly that served as a dipping sauce was the bomb! I actually saved the rest of it to eat with something else==don't know what yet, but something! Usually, I'm happy to see an eggroll stuffed silly with meat. And I LOVE short ribs--they're usually super tender, flavorful and delectable. These were stringy, tough, and gamy tasting, really disgusting. I pulled all of the meat out and dipped the empty eggroll skins in the pepper jelly. I'm no chef but I'd recommend possibly chopping the meat up instead of stuffing the skins with hunks of meat like that. Also, an Asian flavor profile would enhance the taste of the meat but that's just my two cents. I'd also offer my customer something that would demonstrate how apologetic they really are (send a note with the Uber driver to explain missing elements?). Finally, it hit wrong when they blamed Uber. I don't care whose fault it is--just make it right! Overall, I definitely wouldn't go back based on my experience unless it's for brunch...and someone else is treating. read more

First visit and it's nice. Waiter/sever was very attentive even though the restaurant was busy. Food was good and came in a reasonable amount of time after ordering. Everything was great for a nice Saturday lunch. Prices range from $12 up for items. Also have the blackberry sage drink but didn't get a picture. I will plan another visit soon read more

I'm from California and am here in Baton Rouge on business. I order the Mac n cheese, bowtie noodles with a cheese sauce, definitely not Mac n cheese. Not bad, but if I knew what it was, I'd never order this simple dish. The shrimp and grits were pretty tasty but not restaurant quality, the sauce that was on the shrimp is what made the grits taste better. The gumbo, was like thick gravy and the sausages were so dry with no flavor. The étouffée, was terrible, no seasoning what so ever. The white rice that came on the side was pasty, mushy extremely overcooked and not prepared with salt. The wedge salad has store bought bottled blue cheese dressing, restaurants should make their salad dressing in house or buy one that's not mediocre. I was going to give 3 stars but when I read my review, I'd be lying. read more

Cute little industrial chic spot my husband and I had a great date night at tonight. Chill casual vibe, good service, great food and drinks. We came for happy hour, which lasts until 7pm with discounted drinks. Tried several of the cocktails, all of which were top notch. Also got the boudin balls-fried deliciousness stuffed with a little cheesy surprise; also got both the wedge and Cesar salad-yummy with plenty of dressing! Olive or Twist dinner time edition! I visited here with some friends on a Thursday night. This was my 4th time here and this was their first. Typically, I come for brunch or lunch. This was my first time during dinner. Needless to say, we will be returning. The aesthetic is very stylish and trendy. Since COVID, I noticed the tables are spaced out more. I appreciated that they had masks for guests. In terms of food, I ordered the four cheese Mac n cheese with grilled shrimp. THIS DISH DID NOT DISAPPOINT! It was flavorful and cheesy; great portion size for the price. I was very pleased. My only critique was the food did take a while to come even though the restaurant wasn't super busy. Do not bother coming here unless you're going to sit at the bar. There is no drink menu for the table. The link to the drink list on the website is broken. They supposedly have a QR code for a drink menu that the waitress couldn't find. The waitress was absent for most of the night. We were able to order a grand total of 2 drinks each while being there for 2 hours. And I ordered a bottom shelf scotch and was originally charged for an 18 year. I was told there was only 1 button for that brand. I respectfully asked that she find a button for a shot from a $70-$100 bottle instead of a $180-$200 bottle and she did. Food wise they were out of everything I asked for. Normal menu items. Drink wise half the drinks I tried to order off the menu they were also out of. This is the third time I've come here and sat at a table and had a similar experience. At the bar, the guys are knowledgeable, quick, and make sure you're taken care of. But at a table, dealing with their waitresses and their kitchen.... They're something else, that's for sure. read more

I tried Olive Or Twist for the first time yesterday for brunch and it was AMAZING! I ordered the chicken and waffles acadian and it was delicious. The chicken was some of the best I've had, I loved the seasoning, crispness, and how tender it was. The Acadia sauce that comes with it is honestly what made the dish perfect. I also liked how their potatoes were crispy and how they gave you a pretty decent portion on the side. I also took advantage of it being brunch and got the flavored bottomless mimosas for $22. I loved trying all of the mimosa flavors with my favorites being the pomegranate, blueberry, and mango! If you're looking for a cute and delicious brunch spot with bottomless mimosas, I would definitely recommend this place! read more

BRING on the BUZZ! Everything about this space is a good time! From the exposed wires and fun lighting to the bartenders in suspenders and plaid. Whether it's a party of one of ten the dim lighting is perfect for dates or just a relaxed mood for you and your friends. Now many people come for their brunch but happy hour is my thing and the late-night happy hour does not disappoint. Stopped by with a few friends for drinks late-night drinks and happy hour had already begun! For those who work late or just can't seem to make traditional happy hours this is the place for you. With a nice lengthy menu of food and drink options, you can get full and buzzed. The only thing is you have to order at the bar for your drinks and it gets a little busy at times. Now the drinks are everything and more one two or three or ten whatever you feel like the buzz is there. Bartenders are fun and all make a great drink so you don't have to worry about the difference between your drinks. Olive Or Twist expanded over a year ago and with that expansion, possibly a change in business plan (pure speculation). I've had very good times here, however the other night was an exception and when I thought about it, my visit before this one wasn't typical either. Mainly, this has to do with service. We walked in the other night and were going to sit in the dining area. No one greeted us so we did that embarrassing linger at the host stand thing until someone finally came over and told us that in two minutes, table service would cease and we'd be limited to the late night menu. Uh, OK. Seemed like we had just made it with 2 minutes to spare, but it was clear that this was not an option. I recalled that last year, something similar happened, with a dining room full of tables covered in dirty dishes and no staff/no patrons. It was just weird. What made this visit especially disagreeable was, unfortunately, both the food (one item on the late night menu that could be veganized) and bubbly (now limited to a sweet "Champagne" and a less sweet, passable Prosecco). So, I got the red bean hummus sans meat and was told the Champagne was drier than the Prosecco but with one sip, I almost spit it out. What swanky cocktail bar serves lousy bubbly? I could have sworn they used to have a sparkling rose, but I could be wrong. And the red bean hummus was so overloaded with garlic, I found it inedible and barely touched it, except for what my boyfriend ate (he loves garlic, so if you do, maybe you'll like it). The other thing I've noticed is the change in clientele. The place was filled with college students. Baton Rouge is a college town, however I always found Olive or Twist to have a diverse clientele, unlike several other bars I've been to in town. Normally, I find myself not wanting to leave this place, but we were in and out in about a half hour. I miss the old intimate space and attentive service. I hate to say it, but I doubt I'll be back. This is NOT to deter potential customers, however! I am super picky about lounges and only love a small handful of those that I visit. read more

I ordered the Cali Grilled Chicken Sandwich to go on 11/4/2023 and bit into plastic. I called the restaurant to explain why I was calling and the reply from the manager was, "what do you want me to do"? This establishment is not customer focused. The following picture is what was in my sandwich. This is dangerous, hazard and if swallowed would have caused significant throat damage. Finally made my way to this local gem. It's perfect for a quick lunch , nice dinner , or even for a night out with friends to drink. My main complaint is they were out of the soft shell crabs on the menu . Since they didn't have the entree we split two appetizers . We got the poydras poutine which was their house frites smothered with chicken & andouille gumbo, roasted pork, white cheddar cheese curds and jalapenos. We also ordered a order of wings. Both of our appetizers were delicious the poydras poutine was AMAZING !!!! The wings were tasty but we asked for blue cheese dressing and our waiter brought out ranch which I did end up getting my blue cheese. The restaurant itself had a speakeasy type feel which was pretty cool. I like the decor and design . Service was okay nothing special it could have been improved. The service was pretty good at first then You could tell the waiter was getting irritated about something else and he slowly stopped checking on us, but over all a good experience. Oliver needs "some more please". This restaurant has a great warehouse vibe. The music is good if just 2 clicks on the volume knob too loud. Now, the owners and managers are not exactly as perceptive to the few touches that cost nothing to bring the experience up to great. Your establishment has a bit of a spent mop water essence. The menu selections weren't bad but seemed scaled back from the recommendations that I got from friends which makes me wonder if the economy was to blame for the empty dining room or if the things I noticed were noticed by others just the same. The food was on time and well prepared (hot) but lacked proper seasoning (salt). I had a fried appetizer that was not seafood but there was a clear seafood tinge to the flavor from the fry oil. Our visit was shortly after 1p and there was only one other occupied table. The east door was propped open and the west door is where the hostess stand resides. The floor was wet from what appeared to be a cleaning which would account for the mop smell. The bar stock looks amazing and the menu delivers plenty of options. One of our cocktails was unique and delivered on something different which was my personal goal for our lunch date. The blackberry sage brought some pleasing tartness and the aromatics that came together made a singular flavor that brought a bit of fruity curry-like spice with ginger, lemon and the combination gave a coriander hint. The old fashioned was simple and lacked fresh muddled fruit like dark cherry or orange but had a TWIST (thank goodness) of lemon peel. Now for the service. This is worth noting. Our server was just wonderful! I was told that the staff was so kind and I was NOT disappointed by the great Ariana and her simply perfect level of attention. In today's expectation of service in Baton Rouge, you get dinged every 3 minutes during your meal hoping for a meager tip or you're in the forest alone, abandoned by someone who'd rather not be there. Not today! She watched our table and reactions and was just amazing. Ariana has great service perception that should be bottled and sold. I visited one Friday night around 7pm. Parking was tight but I was able to park in the lot to the right of the building. My husband and I went on a quick date. We were seated immediately. The place had a nice crowed with a few tables left and two open seats at the bar. We opted for a regular table. We started with hot sticky wings. These were amazing. Cooked well with a nice flavor! I will definitely return for these. We were informed they were out of crab fingers bummer! Our entrees were not good. I had the grill catfish with crawfish etouffee. This was nasty!! The etouffee did not have a good flavor at all! The crawfish tails seemed uncooked. The temperature was Luke warm. The fish wasn't that good either. My husband had a burger. It was absolutely too greasy and meat wasn't flavorful at all. The fries were good. We had two drinks which I don't remember the names of. A ponchatoula spritzer and something else. They were okay. Came here after a late movie at Perkins Rowe mostly because they were one of the few places open later than 10pm on a Friday night. There's bar service as well as dinner service and a separating wall. We headed to the dinner side but luckily could still see the game (Warriors) from where we were sitting. Service was prompt and we ordered the short rib egg rolls, Mac and cheese with pulled pork and chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious-it did take a while for the food to arrive and our app ended up coming out just after our meals which was sort of annoying. I considered taking a star off for that (they weren't that crowded so not sure why the kitchen can't push out apps quickly) but honestly the food salvaged the experience. Much better than we were expecting! Everything was delicious! I really loved the Mac n cheese with the pulled pork-highly recommend! My fiancé really enjoyed his chicken and waffles though the waffles were a little bland/pale-minor complaint. Egg rolls and sauce they came with were so so good! My FAVORITE brunch spot in Baton Rouge! Praying they open a location in New Orleans. EVERYTHING about this restaurant is amazing. The atmosphere, decor, food, and service is great at all times. The food has been on point every time, makes it hard to pick a favorite because I have so many! I love to order the andouille Benedict! I crave it when I'm not in Baton Rouge. The portions are perfect the price and the mimosas are the best I've ever had. Held a racist conversation about black people while I was sitting right there !! I have been here for brunch and also at night at the bar. The bread pudding is really really good. It came out hot and delicious. It was the best bread pudding that I ever had. I would 100 percent come back just to eat this. The brunch menu had a wide variety of options to choose from. I got the chicken and waffles which were pretty tasty. I thought that the dish lacked a bit of flavor so I had to deduct one star. Both the chicken and the waffles could use a little bit more seasoning to make it more flavorful. The service here is good. At least, the times that I went here I had good service. Our orders for the bread pudding were delivered quickly and right before the kitchen closed which was very fortunate. However, the brunch wait took forever. I waited more than one hour for the food that I ordered. It was a pretty busy day; however, the wait for food was longer than expected. Most of the food for many of the other tables also did not go out quickly. For this reason, I had to deduct another star. I understand that things can be busy and can lead to slow service. However, I believe that waiting over an hour for food is something that should be avoided. I would definitely recommend coming here to try the bread pudding. read more

Definitely a bar to visit when in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Just by looking at the bar - is overwhelmingly amazing haha you can order a flight of beer, flight of whiskey, cocktails, unique beers....it's just endless. My hubby and I only had time to have a drink but definitely will visit again. It is a bit loud but you can be seated outside or on the dining side, opposite of the bar. I enjoyed my Hemingway's Painkiller cocktail and my hubby enjoyed his Pumpkin Beer. Food looked amazing and mouthwatering...and the staff was very friendly. read more

Olive or Twist might be my favorite indoor place to grab a cocktail in Baton Rouge. During our visit to look for places to live, my fiancé and I came here and we loved it. The feel is unique for Baton Rouge - trendy, modern, sophisticated. I truly have yet to find another place with this feel and I've been here over a year now. The happy hour is super reasonable and they also have it late night which is awesome. The bartenders are friendly and the cocktails are complex and delicious. In addition to the feel and drinks, the food is so good - I've loved everything I've ever ordered. The fries are amazing, definitely recommend. I also love the boudin balls and most of the apps. I ordered quesadillas and got a third into them when I noticed one of the dark spots on the tortilla was not just a pan seared tortilla spot - it was a pan seared roach. Full cooked roach on my food.
