Best meal I have ever had. I started with the soup on special today which was lentil. It was delicious and perfectly seasoned. The broth was not too thick and the lentils were Al dente. I then had the filet mignon with peppercorn sauce, mushroom risotto, and garlic spinach. The risotto had the most elegant white wine flavor and complimented the filet mignon and sauce so beautifully. The spinach was a perfect side. The food was so perfectly prepared and presented. Third and last time. The space is unremarkable and boring with absolutely no vision. House complementary bread is beyond ho hum, it's pieces you would bring to feed the ducks at the pond. One dish was the chicken piccata that had to be sent back because it was undercooked. Came with unimaginative pasta and a mixed vegetable that consisted of two tiny pieces of squash, one stalk of asparagus and one carrot stick. Salmon piccata was decently cooked with roasted potatoes, and the same vegetables. The main reason we will never return, was our server Jenn. Such a bitter person with an angry attitude. She barely gave us any attention, couldn't care less about how she rattled off the specials, and was just all around unpleasant. We felt a bit rushed to take our order but explained we were not ready several times. Our waiter was kind and continued to check on our status. She mentioned she and the kitchen were very busy. We were so thankful for it to be open on July 4th as nearly everyone around LA was closed. Their service was excellent and they were accommodating to my pregnant wife. Had dinner here last night with my grammy, it was so so so good! I ordered the linguini and clams, with a Cesar salad for an appetizer. The food was so good, mouthwatering! However, food isn't remarkable or leaves an impression such that you want to go back to try it again. I asked the server if any food is frozen. The answer was that none of dishes is frozen. But the meatballs were either frozen or at least not freshly made. Chicken Parmesan was spongy so it couldn't be fresh. By this way, this Italian restaurant doesn't have pizza?? I am always searching for small local businesses that serve food in a unique environment. Walking into Beto's Italian Bistro in Simi Valley, takes you to a lovely restaurant with dim lighting, white table cloths and white napkins. A nice inviting ambiance. What came out first, was the complimentary bread. This was a disappointing start to a highly anticipated dinner date. If I had to compare it to breads at other dining destinations, this was the more than ordinary, and amongst the most uneventful. We observed before leaving, that the olive oil and balsamic vinegar bottles were on the table but hidden amongst the clutter. Generally, servers pour this for you, or draw your attention to it, so you can enjoy it with the bread (Yes, I have been to numerous Italian Restaurants). We started with the Fritto Misto ($16), which was supposed to contain fried calamari, shrimp and fish with a spicy marina and pesto aioli. The dish came out warm, uncrispy, with mainly calamari and little or no fish or shrimp. The Minestrone soup arrived lukewarm and had to be sent back for heating. After a few tastes that were acidic, it was permanently returned back to the kitchen (the $7 cost was still on the bill). For the four mains, there was one Shrimp Scampi, served over capellini pasta ($25). Shrimps were good size, less cheese would be better and more attention to flavor. One Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli with brown butter and sage sauce ($18). There is a sweetness to this item. Two Lobster Raviolis ($24 each) served in a lobster tarragon broth. The dish was good, tender raviolis, served hot, with a creamy and thick sauce, silky mouthfeel and texture. Undoubtedly, the best entree of the evening. Problem was that there was no hint, taste or presence of lobster (this occurrence at restaurants bugs me). Raviolis seemed potato filled, maybe that is how it was supposed to be. This dish, under another name, would be a hit. For dessert, the crème brulee. Service was prompt and attentive. Beto's has another location under the same name as a wine bar and bistro. Under the same umbrella, they also own Maria's Restaurant, a Mexican eatery, all of which are in Simi Valley. read more

Delicious! So Good! We came for Mother's Day and we're so happy we did! We live close by and have always seen this place but didn't know the food here was so amazing! We ordered the Shrimp & Scallops Linguini... very good! My wife ordered the Chilean Sea Bass Risotto and it was delicious! I couldn't stop trying her plate! I really loved that one! For dessert we got the Tiramisu & Creme Brûlée... both amazing! We loved EVERYTHING! Amazing service, everyone who came to our table was very nice. We will definitely be back! It's been a couple years since we've had dinner here. The food was just ok, nothing that any of our party had was great. The price point is good. The service was the biggest let down. Table wasn't set properly for our party. The waitress was in such a hurry we had to call her back to the table more than once. Way too dark, buy some damn floor lights. I've been to this restaurant a few times before and never had any issues, which makes this visit especially disappointing. I ordered the pork chop and waited over 30 minutes, but unfortunately, it was undercooked. I didn't notice right away because the restaurant was so dimly lit, it was hard to even see the food clearly. When I brought it up, the host offered to switch it to a fish dish, saying it was the quickest to prepare. That dish wasn't much better--the batter was thick, uneven, and kept falling off the fish, making it really unpleasant to eat. What concerned me most was that after I got home, I had severe stomach issues--diarrhea three times during the night. While I can't say with 100% certainty that it was caused by the meal, the timing was too close for comfort. I really hope the restaurant improves its lighting, food quality, and safety standards, because this experience was far below what I've had in the past. read more

Most of the items were very good. I was not necessarily in love with mine. Just ok. The sauce was watery. But the charcuterie was good but needed some more cheese. My son had the duck which was really good with risotto. My daughter had the spaghetti and meatballs. Hard to mess up. My husband had the linguini with the shrimp and scallops which was good. Very happy to have this place as my local Italian spot. I'm not an Italian connoisseur but I feel I can easily spot good Italian vs not so good Italian. I'm having a hard time writing what to recommend only because every appetizer and entrée I've ordered has surprised me as being so good! I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. What a gem! This is a great little bistro tucked away in a strip mall in Simi Valley. It is cozy and intimate, the service is outstanding, and they have excellent food. We arrived here to meet some friends who live in Simi, we were immediately seated and our waiter was very attentive and offered bread and drinks while we waited on the rest of our party. The ambiance is very nice, it's a great place to either meet a couple of friends or have a date night. I had the lobster ravioli and it was delicious. We had high hopes but were let down. This place was recommended to us by a foodie Facebook group. It is unnecessary dark inside and some tables had to use their cell phone to illuminate their menu. We got the calamari for starter, lemon butter salmon and lobster ravioli for entree. The calamari had no seasoning at all, and it comes with a weird pesto mayo sauce that does not taste good at all. The lemon butter salmon tasted okay, but the side of mashed potato was yet again flavorless and dry, almost gritty. The lobster ravioli was an even bigger disappointment. First there were so little filling to each ravioli, and it's not even good. It tasted of nothing like lobster, neither in the flavor or texture department. It was just a mush of pink stuff. Second the pasta was so thick it was undercooked. If you have made homemade pasta before, it felt about a #3 setting pasta, times two per ravioli. The sauce was bland as well. The waitress was pleasant, but not enough to make up for the lack of quality with the food. And it was expensive! We will not be returning. read more

i love this little hole in the wall italian spot. they've renovated to accommodate more guests, as they should! they've have good wine, an excellent selection of appetizers as well as pasta dishes, fish and meat dishes. i usually order one of three dishes- the chicken picatta, linguini and clams and or the calamari appetizers. they also serve with yummy bread and oil and vinegar- a staple for the table. this place is cute, white linens on the tables and clean polished wine glasses. very presentable and elegant without being stuffy. read more
