The sea bass was really fatty and it was such a small portion that was kind of folded over itself to make it appear like a thick cut piece of fish, the plate was mostly full of risotto which was delicious but I paid for some fish! We got to Olivios at 8:30, and they close at 9. The owner told us to order quickly as they were closing. I didn't care for how she said that. She seated us on the patio which we had asked for . We got there and had a 20 minute wait, I saw some people review that they have long wait times but there was no where to wait. If they had seats to wait in it would have been nicer. They took a while to come over(not the staffs fault) they had 2 people working only on a Saturday night?! No buzzer or bartender or host. I felt bad for the servers. Olivio's is good, but it is not quite as good as the price. Trying to be more pretentious than it is, so it seems to me. The yelp offer when we went was a free dessert, and that was nice, probably the reason I am giving four stars instead of three. The place is tiny and all the tables are really close together, so you are basically dining with the people next to you, as there is no other way around it. I am kind of shocked that there is even a restaurant here, it is just so small. Make reservations. Seriously, there are like 6 tables. The food was okay, portions not huge. The bruschetta appetizer was very good, but nowhere near as good as the bruschetta from Carrara's in Moorpark. If you want a good bruschetta, theirs is to die for. Went there to grab food during covid. Arrived well be-for closing and light in window stated "open". Called from the parking lot to be told they were closed. We explained that their website stated they were open as well as the light in the front of the building in front of us. We were then told that they close 30 minutes before advertised time due to cleaning everything. We were told the light up sign in the front stating they were open was wrong. Even though we were there to order a quick pickup in their working hours, we were denied service. I have worked in the restaurant service and even though you would like to leave at our "closing" time, that is not always realistic. Paying customers should be served when seen within hours of operation. We will not be returning with this type of service as well as not being serviced during hours of operation. If the are open from time X to Z, you should be expected to serve customers during those times. read more

If this place was in Westlake or Santa Monica, I'd probably give it three stars. But look folks, it's Simi Valley. Simi. Freaking. Valley. Which means, the choices here are pretty limited: BBQ, Sushi, Mexican, and BBQed Mexican Sushi. And of course there's McDelTacoBell if you'd prefer something less pretentious. Yes, Simi covers all the bases. Oh yes it does. But beggars can't be choosers in this bacchanalia of culinary diversity. You take what you can get; And what you can get ain't that much, my fellow gastronauts. So suck it up and pass me some ribs and a California Roll. Can I have fries with that? But I digress; Olivios is to Simi what the Louvre is to Paris (indulge me while I go balls deep with this metaphor). It's not Marcellos, nor even Maggiano's. But for Simi, it's breath of fresh air: A small, non-chain Italian bistro, with actual white tablecloths and a fucking wine list with more than three selections from Beringer. I mean, what more could one ask for? This is life in the big city for Simi. Wow. Just, wow. Sure, our friendly waiter sort of forgot to show us the (wrong) wine before he opened it, and even poured it out before we had the chance to taste it, then left us to wine steward ourselves the remainder of the evening, but again this is Simi Valley. You learn quickly to calibrate your expectations. You want pretense? Exit the 101 at Westlake Blvd, asshole. Real men pour their own fucking wrong wine. So how was the food? Actually, pretty damn decent. On a scale of 1 to Olive Garden, I'd give it a 10. It kicks Mac Grill squarely in the balls and leaves all of the other wanna be Simi "Italian" places (read: pizza joints) in the dust. My Calamari was light and flaky, and my steak and risotto were Mobil three star compared to the other shit served in this God-forsaken town. Even mama Celeste would cry her fat ass off over this menu. Boom, Mama. Did I mention they have an actual dessert tray? And actual espresso. And even 20 year ports? (albeit, Sandeman, but again: Simi Valley). Truly, my cup runneth over, Olivio's. Ports and Espresso in SV? Foly Huck , I'm beside myself. It doesn't get better than this (well, actually it does, just take the 118 to the 23 to the 101...). But seriously folks, if you live in the area and just want a nice evening out in a local eatery, give this place a shot. It's pleasant, intimate, and inviting, and the food actually isn't half bad. Just go with the Simi flow and you'll have a nice evening without having to drag your ass miles from your McMansion across the cultural boundaries of Westlake or the Valley. Way too scary for us SimiBots. So bring it, Tuscany. There's a new kid (20min or so from) town. read more

You know how sometimes you go into a restaurant, and you definitely like it, but something is missing.......and you just don't know what it is? Well, that happened here. I honestly have no solid complaints, per se, but something was missing. Since the weather was cooperating, we were able to sit on their covered patio with candlelit tables. That was very nice, and I always love dining al fresco, weather permitting, of course. As for the food, while it definitely was tasty, I wasn't blown away, either, but I can't tell you why. As I always do, I read other Yelpers' reviews, and I just now saw the word I was looking for....... Valerie Y used the word "subtle," and I think that's what it was...... subtle food, and I never think of Italian food as "subtle." Whenever I think of Italian food, I remember that all flavors pop, things sing out with all things yummy. But subtle? Not even close. Anyway, here at Olivios, the flavors just didn't sing out for me, and I wanted them to. Presentation was fine, things had flavor, but it could have been a lot more. For instance, the Caprese salad my husband got at Carlitos Gardel (an Argentinian restaurant) was the best I've ever experienced, but here, it was good, but nothing great. The basil was almost dried, definitely not fresh and bright green or with much flavor. The balsamic drizzle was minimal at best, as was the olive oil (not that I want it drenching the food either), and the mozzarella wasn't nearly as soft or flavorful as I've had elsewhere..... and nothing but nothing beats out the burrata at Carlitos Gardel...........whooooooooa, baby !! As for the entree I got, it was one of their specials, Chicken Provencale, which had a chicken breast, and while it was nicely flavored, I couldn't tell you with what. It simply tasted good, but nothing stood out or screamed fantastic. There were some tomatoes, but were they sun-dried as indicated? Didn't seem like it. There were a scant few artichoke hearts, and that was about it. The amount of pasta to chicken ratio was not equal, and the least they could have done was give the other chicken breast in a pair to go with the mound of pasta given. That way, I could have easily gotten another meal out of it. Instead, there was a huge amount of pasta remaining, so I just left it there. No need to take it home without chicken to eat it with.... but that's me. Others may like it sans protein. I have a funny story from here......a bit of a communication gap going on between me and the waiter, but I didn't realize it till after we were done conversing. I asked him about the Pinot Noir by the glass. With a VERY thick accent, he said they had three (types). I said, "I want something more fruity." He said, "Strong." I said, "No, I definitely don't want strong, just fruity." He said, "You try strong." I said, "No, I just don't want anything like that. He said, "then you don't want anything else?" I responded by saying I'll just get an iced tea, and I moved on from the idea of drinking wine. When he brought the tea, he THEN said, "Sorry you didn't want to try the RODNEY STRONG pinot noir. Hmmmmmmmmm............ the word RODNEY was not used when we discussed it, and it would have made a HUUUUUUGE difference in how I responded, given that I was treating the word "Strong" as an adverb or adjective...... not a NOUN, as in somebody's name. I was pleasantly amused at our inability to discuss the wine on the same plane......I don't even think he realized what had transpired, but I did and was quite amused. Well, as I said, Olivios Trattoria was good, albeit nothing spectacular. However, it's close to home. so I will go back, probably try something different, and see what I think all over again. It's not a chain, and I like having a new restaurant to add to the places I can seek out real close to home. read more

We have been dining here once a week for over a month and it has ALWAYS been AH-MAZING!!! The food, the Chianti, the servers, the staff in general- just so wonderful!! We always make a reservation because this place is always full of customers. Their food is so yummy and I cannot stay away from my favorite... the steak risotto!!!! Oh it is so good and ALWAYS cooked just right - medium rare! Pair that with a yummy Chianti, and end it with a Tiramisu for dessert and you will be in heaven!! Absolutely delicious. The food was amazing. But, the staff needs to be trained better. Asking for extra dishes, bread, etc ..multiple times Is not okay. If your price point is higher end, your service needs to be higher end too. There's only one other table of customers as I write this. This restaurant has so much potential but needs better management. Wrote my review before dessert arrived which was amazing but the Creme Brulee had a large chip of another dish inside it. A winner. Subtle food, with prices that range from $13 to $28; thankfully my family found lots on the $13 side so we can think of coming back. I found through Yelp and am ever grateful. Squash ravioli delicious with sage butter. Chicken Piccata was yummy too. My daughter loved the bread/foccacia. Lasagne good but not quite as thick/meaty/cheesy as I had hoped. The special seared seabass marinated in miso with coconut milk/lemongrass/ginger sauce on spinach looked amazing but I wasn't up for a $28 entree. They also had a double thick pork chop that looked really substantial. Desserts were very nicely done and affordable! I enjoyed the cannoli, son had flourless choc cake (warm) and daughter the Tiramisu. You can bring your own bottle I observed; apparently corkage is $10. Why I vote four not five stars: Service was cross-service but I felt like it could have been more attentive. When we arrived at 5:30 more than half the place was empty but they were kinda weird about whether they could seat us. I didn't appreciate that--and I wondered if it was because I had kids. They are 10/12 so it's not an issue but I disagree with the Yelp rating that it's good for kids. I would not bring little ones under 9. Love being able to see the chefs. Tables are close so expect to get to know/(over)hear neighbors. Opera music piping a bit too loud for me... It's nice to find a non-chain restaurant in Simi. It's a lovely option. read more

We took my Mom here for her birthday, but this place could be totally romantic if you wanted it to be. Food was so delicious. Their marinara/meat sauce is fabulous. Out table tried the chicken Parmesan, meat lasagna, eggplant parmigiana. Everything was super yummy. The only reason for the 4 stars (instead of 5), would be the service. It was so packed & the staff seemed very overwhelmed. Long waits in between sitting down, placing drink order, receiving drink order, ordering food, receiving food. It says it's good for kids- but I'm going to discourage bringing small kids (the kind that are loud & won't sit in their seats). We almost brought my toddler nieces and I'm glad we didn't. Wow! Been meaning to try this place for a long time now. It is my anniversary with my significant other and we didn't feel like going out this evening so we decided to give takeout a try. Hands down best Italian food we have had in a long time - especially for takeout! My spaghetti and meatballs was perfectly cooked and delicious sauce. He ordered chicken parmigiana which most places butcher, Olivios was perfect. Mashed potatoes were delicious and vegetables perfectly cooked where most restaurants don't bother to cook their veggies through. Super pleased. Cheesecake about to be devoured. We just moved to the area and we were looking for an Italian place we can call our new go to restaurant. We finally decided to order dinner from here through Yelp and the experience was 10/10. We placed the order which was processed through Yelp. 30 minutes later the food arrived. We ordered a meat lasagne, caprese salad, and shrimp linguini. Absolutely delicious!!!!
