We had such a great time last month, so we came back today! The food and service are great!! You can tell they really care about their customers! Great vibe!! We visited our son who lives in SLC on the day before Christmas we stopped at Olympian. My son loves this place and my wife, and I instantly felt welcome and the time we left, we felt like family. The food is fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced and the service is great (all things I LOVE). We managed to stop by the day after Christmas for a last breakfast meal where I got the marinated pork hash browns and eggs with French toast. Wow, delisious and substantial enough to get us back to Seattle. When we come back to Salt Lake, Olympian is on our list of must visit list. read more

I'm not a "regular" at this restaurant, in fact, a first timer, so maybe that's why I was treated differently. I came here to try their Greek entree, thinking it would be authentic and delicious. This was a terrible disappointment and maybe I shouldn't have had such high expectations. The Greek Entree that I ordered came with soup or salad. Having had delicious avgolemono over a dozen times from Olive Tree Cafe in Honolulu, I was excited to taste their lemon soup. I agree with Micah B.'s review that their soup tasted from a can, nothing special about it. I really enjoy stuffed grape leaves so I ordered their "Dolmathes" entree. I agree with Nicolas V.'s review that this was bland and nothing special. What bothered me the most is that the $18 "platter" came with four dolmades. There's four other patrons on Yelp that posted a picture of the same platter, showing six dolmades. I'm left to believe that two dolmades rolled off the platter before it was served to me, a non regular patron. So then we get to dessert. My family has been to both Turkey and Greece and we've had authentic baklava from both countries. Now it's pretty hard to mess up phyllo pastry, butter, honey, and chopped nuts. I can tell you how they messed up the baklava, it's frozen and reheated. Contrary to the video they show by their kitchen, no one is baking up fresh baklava here. If they are baking it fresh, like how the video portrays, maybe that batch is served to the "regular" patrons. What they served me, even made the waitress ask if something was wrong. So I agree also with Nicole B.'s review that even the waitress gets embarrassed with what the kitchen is sending out. The baklava was not fresh, in fact it was a tasteless paste like substance that had zero resemblance of chopped nuts. So I'm gonna also agree with Wallace W.'s review regarding frozen, mushy food here. He also said it best, "My food expectations have nothing in common with theirs." In closing, if you haven't read Vida A.'s review, you will find authentic Greek food somewhere else. As for me, and this experience, I will not become a "regular" patron. read more

I am a fan of Greek food. I had never been to the Olympian Restaurant until today, although I had passed by many times. And unfortunately I won't be coming back any time soon. Especially since the staff and the woman who I presume to be the owner are so friendly. It is almost like a scene from Cheers inside, everyone eating there knows everyone else and there is a lot of camaraderie. But, I have to say, in my opinion, the food is just plain bad. For lunch, I had the pork chops with rice pilaf, vegetables and a salad. A salad came first, iceberg lettuce with shredded carrots, topped with a tomatoey Greek dressing that tasted ok, but was really watery. The coffee tasted burnt, or maybe it was just a poor grade of coffee bean that they use to brew it. Even with two creamers, it tasted bitter, and this is from a guy who likes his coffee black. Finally the main course came, pork chops which had been grilled with some spices and lemon. I really couldn't taste the lemon and the meat was tough. It was palatable in a campfire cooking kind of way, but the vegetables were another story. They were frozen carrots and broccoli, which were soggy, limp and flavorless. And the rice pilaf, although a decent texture, had a weird flavor that was kind of perfume-like, or maybe a hint of vanilla. At any rate, it was one of the worst flavored pilaf recipes I've ever tasted, this from a guy who is married to a 100% Greek wife. I was hoping to be able to add a new Greek place to my list of restaurants, but sadly, the Olympian was a big disappointment. I suppose their faithful clientele will keep them in business; all I know is my food expectations have nothing in common with theirs. read more
