Average taste above average price. Ordered the biscuits and gravy and they are very stingy on the gravy. Not enough. Anyone who loves biscuits and gravy knows it sucks to get screwed out of an adequate amount of gravy. I think I paid 13 buck for this. I'm left with tons of dry biscuits but no gravy to eat with. The food that we had was a 3 but we popped on an extra star for the quality of service. Our server was friendly, efficient and fun to talk to. Many restauranters don't seem to understand that this will make or break a restaurant. The food and how we rated it on a 1-5 scale: (4) Shrimp Salad - large, cold, filiing. Would have been nice to have some beets and olives but one can't always have what one would like...or can I? (3) French Dip - devoured in record time but in retrospect, was just run-of-the-mill. Our last breakfast in Santa Rosa and my brother in law picked this place. It's right in downtown and the area is pretty. I would have loved to take a day and just walk around. The restaurant itself felt like a Dennys but a more friendly staff. The seating is a little crowded and the table we sat in wasn't comfortable because your knees are enclosed and confined in between wood. The cafe latte was good. I also ordered the cali Benedicts. 3.5 out 5. I had a taste of my daughter's corned beef hash and it was dry. 2 out of 5. Next ten I come, I'll try the omelet. read more

The food was good, just not enough flavor for me. The best part about my meal was the toast! I ordered an extra piece of sourdough toast and it was so soft and buttery that I thought about going back just for more toast. The service was good and the prices were as expected. Service was really good - the women we had was super friendly and gave genuine answers when we asked her about items on the menu, not the "Oh everything is really good on the menu" type of answer. I had the corned beef hash and eggs. It was Top 5 expirence of CBH&E of all time! Not canned (which, if done right can be awesome!) this was homemade. So much flavor - I didn't need hot sauce OR ketchup! The bread they give you is off the hook! Freshly made there - and served warm! You have to ask for butter but really, it didnt need it. But I did jam it - tasted even better! GF # 1 had some kind of omellete. it was such a huge portion she was full almost the whole day! GF #2 had bagel & lox. Not onthe menu but the items were - just not together. The server happily acomodated. GF was happy! Coffee was decent. Nice atmosphere and maybe a little pricey. This place is a family favorite when in the Santa Rosa area. Although this is not the original location, this place nailed its authenticity. Actually a jewel in Windsor. The reasons I loved our breakfast is how they accommodated all our needs, price was well worth it (65.00 for four people), tasted great and very good service. We came in on a Friday at 10:30am and we were eating within 15 minutes upon arrival. My food allergies were welcomed and accommodated very nicely! No eggs or dairy and so they made me a potato skillet with tons of added veggies, onions, mushroom, zucchini, spinach, and home made salsa. It covered the regular omelette plate and I was completely stuffed. Nothing fried in butter and tasted great! The potato's were fresh and crispy fried, not dried out, and fabulous I will always come here from breakfast when I visit Windsor from now on. read more

I've been to Omelette Express in Santa Rosa and it was sub-par with limited menu options (aside from omelettes of course). So my first impression when walking into the Windsor Omelette Express was hopeful for a better experience. It was spacious and quieter, and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. They even had almond milk for the sad percentage of us who can't have regular dairy or soy, which SR had neither, just to note. So far so good. Then we got our food...3 of us had the French toast with eggs and bacon. I could make better French toast with my eyes closed. It was semi-toasted (at best) sourdough sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar. I couldn't even tell if there was an egg batter, it looked like straight toast. The waitress was kind enough to take mine back and get it toasted which made it better but still nothing to write home about. Eggs came out cooked the way we asked, but cold, and limp bacon-bacon should NEVER be limp! Which means it probably sat under a heat lamp for a while before ending up on a plate. It seems to me the bigger the overhead the lower the food quality. It's too bad because the service was really great, the place was esthetically pleasing and the menu seems good. However, you're spending money on breakfast that could come out better in your own kitchen if you have any sort of cooking skills, which is why I have to give it such a low rating. Maybe try it on a weekday when it's slower and they can take their time in the kitchen? read more

Go here for brunch on a Monday morning and you just may end up being the only people in the restaurant with absolutely no wait! According to my friend this is the go-to breakfast spot for all the locals in the area. The restaurant is very clean inside and the only things on the walls were replicas of old classic car hoods hung throughout the restaurant. The wooden tables were cute, spacious and comfortable. As far as the omelettes-- there is a huge selection! Considering we had a long day of wine tasting ahead of us, I wanted to keep it light. I ordered the oatmeal which came with fresh walnuts, raisins and brown sugar. Oatmeal was good; wasn't the instant kind, but the real whole grains instead. When they list "Avocado" as an ingredient in an omelette, they mean store-bought guacamole, and they put a lot of it in the omelette. You may be really happy about this information or you may not, it depends on your affection for store-bought guacamole vs your desire for fresh avocado. Order accordingly. For me, my omelette was quite yummy after I scraped the guacamole out of my breakfast. This is a great breakfast at any time of day. Their specialty is, as you might guess, omelets, and i quickly zeroed in on one that contained many of my favorite things -- spinach, mushrooms, cheese, herbs, and, of course, bacon (mmm, bacon). While a previous reviewer found the level of herbs (must be the herbs, since there was no spice in this omelet) to be too much, I found the quantity of herbs to be pleasantly assertive. Oregano dominated, if you're curious. The prices are not, as others have mentioned, cheap. But the omelets are huge and are served with a huge slice of buttered toast (white or wholewheat) and a huge serving of cottage fries. Quality/taste was slightly above what I was expecting, and service was friendly. I'd definitely recommend coming here, tho I'd advise sharing an omelet, given the portions. A half plate is still a full meal, no question about it. Still, I'll credit Omelette Express and their generous portions for providing the necessary sustenance to get through a full day of wine-tasting with no ill-effects by sundown. read more

What can you say about a breakfast restaurant that doesn't serve pancakes? I ordered the french toast that comes with bacon and eggs. No toast or potatoes included. The eggs were the smallest portion of eggs I've ever seen, plopped on a large plate, ungarnished, it was a sad sight. The french toast was actually the worst I've ever had. Two small, chewy slices of bread with very little egg - strangely cooked: pale, dry and uneven. The bacon was adequate although the 2 small pieces were a little overcooked. There was so little food with this meal that I had to order a side of breakfast potatoes. This was a little more generous in quantity but the same poor quality - bland and mushy. My breakfast buddy ordered the eggs benedict. He said it was average at best. At least his meal came with toast. Neither meal was served with any garnish whatsoever. The presentation was spartan and minimalist. I've had better food at Dennys for a third the price. The service was average The total with tip was $35.00. I don't mind paying for good food but I just did not enjoy my experience. The omelettes are OK and may present a slightly better value but I still wouldn't recommend this place. My wife and I tried this place around 2pm one weekend day. Service was friendly and fine (though since it was quiet at the time, I've no idea how that translates to busier times). Ambiance was pleasant enough and appropriate to the type of restaurant, if nothing noteworthy. Unfortunately, the food was uninspiring. I had a burger and my wife had an omelette. Nothing was exactly wrong with either of them - the ingredients seemed fine and the preparation was adequate - but they lacked any sort of panache. I had the #5 burger with green chilis and jack and cheddar cheese; the chilis had no bite and the whole concoction was lacking in personality. The burger itself was a bit dry, and after awhile it started to feel like a bit of a chore to eat. My wife had a similar assessment of her omelette. It wasn't unpleasant, but had nothing about it to make her want to eat another one. In the end, Omelette Express is a place I'd return to if going with a friend who had a particular affinity for it, but I'd not seek it out again on my own. If looking for a comparable sort of restaurant in Windsor, I'd give KC's Downtown Grill the edge. read more
