This place was good, I got take out during covid. I got the Sekura Combo (8 pc sushi and spicy tuna roll) and I wasn't too happy about the 2 pc shrimp sushi, but the rest was good. I think my biggest upset was that I was charged $13+ for an avocado roll (just avo and rice) which is way more than a lot of their specialty rolls. Absurd? I believe they have an albacore roll for $9. Anyways, I will give this place another shot (if the avo roll is reasonable) in case the guy made a mistake and charged me for something different. read more

I'm pretty torn about this review. I've been getting takeout sushi from here for a while and it's always been pretty decent. I'd give them a 3.5 stars for my takeout experience. For dine in, I'd give them 1 star... so I'm averaging my review to a 2 star. We arrived around 2pm on a Saturday and the place was empty. Maybe three other tables. We were seated promptly. Our server came by and took our drink order. He seemed like he was new. Drinks arrived and we ordered. Masago California Rolls - basically a cali roll, rolled in masago. I always get this as takeout, and have never been charged for masago. But the server came back to our table letting me know it would be an extra $7 to add masago... really? Masago is the cheapest fish egg on the market. And $7? Really? Ok. Crunch Roll - just a cali roll, with shrimp tempura inside, and panko bread crumbs on top of the roll. This was pretty good. But this roll was HUGE. Almost not in a good way. There was so much filling inside, and the diameter of each slice was ridiculous. I feel like the size should be able to be consumed in one bite... but not these. We had to literally SHOVEL bites into our mouths. A few times we had to take multiple messy bites. No bueno. Rainbow Crunch Roll - same as the crunch roll but topped with raw fish (tuna and salmon). Same issues... too big. The fish slices on top were super thick. Awkward to eat. Had to basically disassemble the whole roll to eat it. The service... was the WORST. Our server didnt check on us at all. When we were done eating we couldn't find our server ANYWHERE. Other servers just kept walking by us... I finally had to RAISE MY HAND like I was in class trying to get my teachers attention. Lol. It was so ridiculous. Someone finally came and asked if we were ready to pay. Yes... Got the bill quickly, and we waited and waited for another 10 minutes for them to pick up our bill. If you are looking for good food at a good price and leave full, then this is the place. I always order the 2 item combo with beef teriyaki with California rolls, it also comes with miso soup. A tip for those who order the bowl only, the price is pretty much the same but you will miss out on the hot miso soup that comes with the 2 item combo served in a bento style box. I love sushi and I miss the sushi experience with COVID, so I was happy to see when one of my favorites had outside dining! Server took a break without telling us or handing us off and we were missing items from our order we sat there a good 20 minutes for one of the other 2 servers to come over to assist and again there are only 10 tables. On my 55th birthday I wanted to go to my long-time fav. place (of 26 years!) in Montclair -- but since the pandemic, they have permanently closed!!!! Me and a couple of my buddies went out last night to get some food from Omakase we've been here plenty of times but last night has been the best experience and service we have ever received first we were attended by a guy who quickly sat us received our drinks right away and then Aaliyah finished taking care of us she was spot on with getting our order correct the food came out fast tasted fresh and our drinks were never low she was really nice friendly and had a wonderful attitude if I had a restaurant I would hire her in a minute. Over all experience last night was 5 stars Restaurant was clean waitress was awesome food taste great and they have a juke box so you can play what you want. First time year and highly disappointed. I noticed the happy hour special that said 50% off select rolls. When I asked about the rolls they were not sure which rolls were on special. So this review is long overdue. My now husband and I have been coming here for over ten years; it was one of the first restaurants he took me when we were dating, and while we've watched employees come and go, the quality of the food here remains the BEST out of all the sushi places we've ever gone to -- and as avid sushi lovers, we've been to a lot. We've been to Japan twice and will confidently still say this beats even the places we ate there. The sushi/sashimi cuts are so thick and flavorful. The item combos are filling. Even when I feel like having a salad, my go-to Salmon Skin Salad never fails to be generous in portion and flavor. Even the sushi rolls are delicious, with my current favorite being the Lion King roll (our favorite for years had been the Hungry Roll). The fact that Omokase doesn't serve AYCE but still makes us come back regularly says something. When I gave birth to our firstborn, I was so excited to eat raw sushi again that I chose a random AYCE joint -- WRONG. I was left so disappointed after 9 months of waiting. But the next week we came back to Omokase and it was like heaven on Earth for my taste buds. If you're trying to decide if you should try Omokase out, why are you even still reading this? My boyfriend and I came here because of the great reviews. The sushi was okay, but this spot just didn't quite live up to the reviews. We got 3 different rolls: the Alaskan roll, the baked salmon roll, and the spicy salmon roll. I loved the fried outside of the Alaskan and the tuna. The baked salmon roll on the other hand was just not good at all. It literally tasted like oven-baked salmon on top of soggy rice drenched in sauce. The pieces fell apart as we tried to pick them up to eat. My favorite was probably just the spicy salmon roll- simple and fresh. After hearing about the great service, I was disappointed that this was not the case for us. We never had anyone check on us, and didn't get any water refills. This Sushi place does not take care of their customers when they make a mistake. Spent $55 on sushi and when I got home there were only 2 items in the bag instead of the 5 items. Called them when I saw items were missing. But, they were closed. Called them the following day and asked to speak to a manager and they would not get on the phone,. The manager was talking through an employee. They refused to give me back the $35 worth of food that they forgot to put in bag. When you you do a pick up order, make sure you check your bag. I love going here to get sushi! When you first walk in through the door, you're immediately greeted by the hostess and the sushi chefs. I've never had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to be seated here, so I think it's pretty great. The most I've waited was maybe 20-30 minutes, but it was less time than what they estimated, so I was happy. Once we are seated, they get our drink orders in immediately and once our drinks come to the table, they take our food order. Regardless of how many times I've been here, they always let me know that the baked rolls take about 15 minutes to make and that it will most likely come after the other food that was ordered. This is my go to place in Rancho Cucamonga for when my friends and I want sushi or my husband and I want sushi. The price is about the same as any other sushi place. Not expensive, but not necessarily cheap either. If you order anything ToGo, they label all the containers for ease of knowing what is in which container rather than having to open every single one to figure out which goes to who in your party of people. The staff has changed quite a bit since they've opened. Sometimes for the worse, but mostly for the better. I like how if you ask them for their opinion on a new roll, they'll tell you their honest opinion. They might tell you what the norm is for people who are usuals, but they tell you whether or not it's their preference.
