On Orange was one of the first restaurants we tried out when we moved to Lancaster and it has remained our favorite breakfast/brunch place for the past 2 years. The menu is small but everything on it is great. The menu trades out items now and then but I've yet to have something I didn't like. The Swedish pancakes are something that everyone should try. You also always get a "lagniappe" at the end of the meal, which is usually a small cookie. Service is always fantastic and friendly. If you go on the weekend there is usually a wait for a table but it's worth it. If you are seated downstairs be careful on the steps, they are quite steep. Be sure to look at some local art pieces if you are down there. There is also outdoor patio seating when weather is good. If you are visiting Lancaster for the weekend On Orange is in a good location, right by a parking garage and in walking distance to Central Market. Best breakfast/brunch place. read more

This was a lovely little place downtown! The staff were SUPER friendly and attentive to detail, the place was clean, and there was an overall positive vibe. I had the vegan pancakes, which were heavy and filling and SO delicious! Apparently their French toast special was phenomenal too. I appreciated that they had vegan options. They have ground floor and downstairs seating, and it's very cozy. It can get VERY busy, especially on weekends, so there might be a wait outside- but I'd say it's worth it! read more

So good! We're in town to watch Sights and Sounds show: Jesus and wanted to get a good and hearty breakfast before watching the show. Whipped out my handy dandy Yelp app and stumbled on this place. It's a cute place with great ambiance, rustic yet modern. The menu is small but I always take that as a good thing because they're more quality vs. quantity. Staff is also very friendly and welcoming. We sat by the window on this beautiful summer day. I ordered their special which was shrimp and grits and hubby ordered the last french toast. Shrimp and grits was delicious! Serving size was just right and they did not skimp out on the shrimp (see pic). The bacon on top was just icing on the cake, gave it texture with the creaminess of the grits and the tender shrimp. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the French toast despite already having eaten a plate of leftover pasta dinner. I tried the French toast as well and it was light and fluffy, just a hint of orange and the syrup just complements everything...they said it usually comes with fruits but they didn't have any, probably would have been better but still good as is. Would recommend if you're in town to try this place! We would love to come back and try the others on the menu. read more

I would say just one thing: the pancakes with the stewed apples are awesome.The person that took me there said that those pancakes were her favorite but I mean, she is not the most reliable person since everything is her favorite thing (I wont say names but she knows who she is). Stopped in for lunch while riding through town on a road trip. I had the chilaqiles and waffle with ice cream. I would heartily recommend both. What especially struck me was that I was seated, and had no one come take my order for 15 minutes. Ok, mildly annoying. But the shock was when the proprietor noticed I was still just sitting with a glass of water and apologized profusely and comped the meal. I've never had such proactively good service. They refused to let me pay. I will be back here every time I pass through Lancaster. Excellent service, pride and dedication shown with this business. Plus great food to boot. read more

Great vegan food on the menu. Vegan swedish buckwheat pancakes, Earth Balance butter, and vegan sausage, and real maple syrup. It's rare to find restaurants serving real maple syrup. Two of us split 3 pancakes, and 1 order of sausage. We were stuffed, and I'm a big eater. Service was great. The waitress even brought us vegan chocolate covered coffee beans when the meal was finished. Normally you get a cookie, but the cookies are not vegan. So nice of our waitress to look out for us. I love this place. It's a cute and cozy little place with really great service. The food is just different enough that you don't feel bad about paying for breakfast. I typically switch between two of my favorites; the Indian omelette or the peasant omelette (my favorite). Breakfast options come with a choice of roasted potatoes or tomatoes or a mix of both. The bread is whole grain, thick and delicious. The coffee is solid and they don't let your cup go empty. Prices are really reasonable for quality and portion size. The check always comes with complimentary fresh baked cookies--who can complain about that?! Also, in the summertime there is an outdoor patio seating area that I didn't even know existed for the longest time. It's a pleasant little space. read more

Went here for breakfast for the first time after seeing that a friend was there. What a cool little place! I always worry that places in downtown Lancaster won't be kid friendly and I was happy to see that we were seated out of the way in the restaurant. Our daughter "talked" the way she always does but I don't think it disturbed anyone. The menu was small but every option sounded good. We went with the chilaquiles. The eggs were cooked perfectly on top and the whole meal was legitimately delicious. The chorizo was spicy but that is to be expected. Excellent food, I just had to knock a star because it's a breakfast / brunch place that charges 9.95 for a sandwich and a side salad or an omelette. This ain't no "Daily Grill" smoked salmon on a cream cheese bagel. I appreciate their work as much as I do the next gourmet restaurant, but a three egg omelette with a side of potatoes cost you about $1-2 in food costs and 5 minutes of your time to cook, how how does it become almost ten dollars? I ordered the mufaletta which was delicious by all means, but once again, 9.95 for a cold cut sandwich with a small side salad. The olive salad spread compelled me to order it and it was hella delicious, and reminded me of a good olive tapanade. The bread itself was excellent, tasty, and chewy, but did it warrant the price tag? Not really. It could have easily been 7 dollars (maybe even 8) and garnered less complaining. And seriously, $9.95 for a grilled cheese? Even though the cheddar is older than I am currently, it's a grilled cheese. It's what broke and children people eat. It makes as much sense as serving a hot dog covered in truffle slices (yeah I'm looking at you, Serendipity!) By all means the service was excellent, there was nothing to complain about the food itself (all good!), the surprise cookie was wonderful, and the decor was cute as hell, but no one should be paying almost 30 dollars after coffee, taxes, and tip for a modest, booze-less brunch for two in Lancaster, PA. read more

Was staying at a local hotel for Halloween/Dutch wonderland and decided to check online for the best breakfast rated in the area. We were very happy customers. Walked right in no wait on Sunday morning at about 8:30am, was greeted by positive staff and everyone we interacted with. The food options weren't SUPER huge but thats ok, who really wants a 5 page menu? The food was awesome just as the rest of the reviews noted. My wife ordered some Sweedish pancakes and bacon sausage and she said it was the best she'd ever had & i tried the Chipped Beef w/ potatoes, they had some Nice pulled pork specials but we didn't try them. We were also traveling with our 18 month old daughter that the staff joked , only odd thing was the highchair strap was broken so we just had to watch her a little closer. They brought her out applesauce and milk right away which if you're a parent is great when you ask for something for the baby and feels like 5hrs when they have nothing to do lol I would definitely pass back in to try more options the next time we head out. The "mug on the wall" for regulars was a nice idea , we saw 3/4 people walk in with mugs hanging and probably keeps them all coming back (along with the food/service) I mean, who doesn't want to be a "regular" where everyone knows you're name! Finding vegan restaurants is tough in Lancaster. Hubs and I went to On Orange this morning for breakfast. Although not a vegan restaurant they did have a few vegan options. The Swedish pancake comes veganized with Earth Balance and apple sauce. I got a side of vegan sausage. The pancake, made with oats, was super delicious and hearty and cannot imagine eating more than one plate sized cake. The owner explained they use gimme lean vegan sausage and it was a great addition to the meal. Hubs got the lentil hummus sans bread because it wasn't vegan but they added a nice side salad. At the end of the meal, snickerdodles are brought out with the check, however our server was mindful and brought us a vegan option of dark chocolate covered espresso beans--breakfast dessert. With local artist creations on the walls to a good overall energetic vibe, we enjoyed On Orange. read more

My husband and I were visiting from out of town and were looking for a great breakfast place and decided to go to On Orange! What an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The charming and cozy atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The food was exceptional but even more amazing was the service! Every single staff member went out of their way to make sure were were comfortable, asking if we needed anything else and were so attentive to ALL customers needs their out the restaurant. The staff truly CARED about their customers and clearly took pride in their establishment. I should also say, my husband typically isn't a breakfast person and he has commented several times how much he loved On Orange! What an amazing restaurant. On Orange is THE best place for breakfast in downtown Lancaster. (Previously, Wish You Were Here) The new owner is friendly, hospitable, and simply wonderful. Food comes out FAST!! and good! certainly not like before when it took nearly an hour for even the easiest breakfast. With the new owner is also a new staff... with all the positive accolades of the new owner. Previously, the tension among the staff and kitchen was palpable. Not so anymore. The owner would often have tirades screaming at her staff for the most ridiculous mistakes... did she think people really wanted to listen to that when they ate? (or more appropriately while they WAITED for their food). Wish You Were Here was dirty and musty and had simply no character. On Orange, is fresh, clean, and attractive. Great art from area artists adorns the walls and the downstairs has been renovated with fresh paint and a casual style. And saving the best for last; the food!... is amazing! The swedes are perfect, and not quiet the same as before.. they're better. (of course they're not actually the same recipe - thank god!) The menu is eclectic and has something that would appeal to most anyone. On Orange is simply the best breakfast place (compared to WYWH or anywhere) and anyone who says otherwise is obviously someone without standards or taste. On Orange.. Keep up the GREAT WORK!! Alright Lancaster, I see you! On Orange validated three things for me. 1. Lancaster has the nicest, friendliest, most genuine and caring people ever! 2. Lancaster city is an up and coming city full of great food, art, music and people. 3. This place is theee best brunch in town!! All likes this times!! - All day brunch menu! oh yeah that's right! - Service is amazing! - I went to the restaurant to get quarter for parking, and before I even reached for money, quarters was placed in front of me. - Delicious, fresh and local food for a great value! Nothing was over $10. - Indian Omelet $8.95 - this was soo good!! Spicy too! Love how roasted tomatoes is a side option. We ended up getting combo of both tomato and potato (for no extra charge!) I personally like the tomatoes better; it was so juicing, and it balance well with the spiciness of the omelet. The 7 grain toast omg! I usually never eat the toast that comes w/ omelets, but this toast was so soft, fluffy and I could actually taste the 7 grains! - Crustless Quiche with side salad - This was the special of the day. Quiche was straight out of the oven hot and the side salad was yummy! It was just what I need to be satisfied, but not too full and heavy that I can't carry on with my day. - The check came with complimentary dessert cookies from a local bakery!! How nice of them to promote other local businesses! Atmosphere - Bright, open space with lots of natural light. The entire time I felt like I was at someone's home eating with locals. This was a very unique breakfast spot! Everything was organic and although delicious it's not your typical flavors! So if you're looking for huge super fluffy pancakes like from iHop, then this isn't the place for you! Their pancakes were made with oats and SUPER DELICIOUS with the natural maple syrup. We also had the omelette special which was smoked salmon, goat cheese and spinach! It was delicious and definitely a flavor combination I wouldn't have thought of on my own, but I'm glad I tried it! What an adorable little spot for breakfast! Headed here after a night out (a little late I may add) around 10/1030. Wasn't surprised to see people waiting on the sidewalk for their name called. We went in and put our name in. The wait was only about 20 minutes and I believe it only took 15. I had no idea how adorable the inside was until our name was called. Each room is kind of a different vibe. Cheery in the front, downstairs much cozier (would be better in the winter I think), and then they brought us out to the patio. We really hit the jackpot! The outside patio is SO cute, it was the perfect spot. The menu is small but unique. They have some all-day features (I think they're just open breakfast/lunch). You can do simple breakfasts or they have a few heartier things. I chose the special omelet of the day which was "Mediterranean" - 3 eggs, Kalamata olives, sundried tomatoes, and goat cheese. Simply delicious! We got a side of bacon which was crispy and delicious. Service was wonderful, food came out quick, and when you get your check your get homemade chocolate chip cookies! The reviews are what led us to this adorable and very busy little brunch spot in downtown Lancaster. Unfortunately, our experience didn't quite live up. I wish it had. The service and the atmosphere were right on. It was the food that was just okay. We both got omelets. I had a special of the day lentil, arugula and goat cheese and my husband had the peasant. Mine was dry and just didn't have much flavor. His was at least cooked better, but still, just very average. The special side of pork sausage was pretty good... Bummer...cause it's a cute place. This is a place to come in the summer - in the winter, without a breezeway, the place is very, very cold inside due to a constant draft. It's got a cute atmosphere - rustic, quaint - very 'Lancaster'. The food was OK. They charge $3 for a can of Coke which felt ridiculous. My omelette was good (peasant), but not better than the diners around town that outshine it. The roasted potatoes were under seasoned and burnt badly on one side, the tomatoes were fine, but again, not seasoned (or vastly under seasoned). My husband had the Chilaquiles which he really disliked - the tortilla that is ripped up becomes soggy in the chile/sausage sauce (which is like a chili consistency) and with the runny egg on top, it is almost like a very strange soup. The bread was the best part of the meal - both the grain and white were delicious. My other complaint was our table was tiny and squished in the middle. We had no room and I felt very much in the way. I get it for a small house, but when you come, it's good to note this is a small place and would not be good for large groups. read more

We waited about 15 minutes for a table. Judging by the line, I thought we would be waiting for an hour. But apparently there may be additional seating downstairs. The new owner of this restaurant has done a great job of continuing the feel and vibe of this restaurant since its origins as Wish You Were Here. My only wish would be for a great gluten free set of options, but that would be nit-picking. We were a party of 5 (and 3 generations, at that) and they were extremely welcoming and accommodating. On top of that, everything we got was delicious, served quickly, and prepared well. This restaurant used to be Wish You Were Here until the owner decided to call it quits. WYWH used to have a really nice relaxed vibe with a cool, casual staff. And the food was incredible. My wife and I used to go to WYWH regularly and it was always an event. What eating out should be. And who doesn't love a great breakfast? Unfortunately On Orange, the replacement, is rather stuffy and just not any fun, like the old place. Even worse, the food is overpriced and bland. Even the great coffee WYWH used to serve has gone downhill. I now refer to this place as "Wish You Didn't Suck.' On the upside, they do still have the Swedish pancakes, which are excellent. The last time I was there they did not have the old WYWH vegan sausage, but I see from reviews here they may have this again. I heard they bought some recipes from the old owner (the pancakes and the sausage, maybe a few others). These are the highlights of On Orange for sure. read more

While in Lancaster for a political convention I walked to On Orange from the Mariot Hotel located in the center of town, after passing up another breakfast spot that didn't have exactly what my party was looking for. When first walking in I noticed the servers looked like they were hired from hipster central casting, jeggings, cut off jean shorts, ironic 90's Tshirts, Vintage dresses, and the like. We had the option of sitting on the ground floor next to the window, in the lower level basement type area, or outside in a patio- located off the basement. We took the table by the window. After getting our drinks, I ordered that day's special, an omelette with salsa and guacamole. The dish also came with toast and roasted tomatoes and potatoes. I was extremely happy with my order. The servers were always quick to pore more coffee and water, which is always a plus in my book. Very enjoyable breakfast! If I'm very in Lancaster again for an over night trip I will absolutely go back for breakfast or brunch. read more
