I got to try out this Thai restaurant today and it was great :) The decor was nice and I liked the atmosphere of the place. My water would always be refilled before it was half empy and the servers were very friendly. My friend and I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and the Bamee Hang They were both sooooo delicious! The Bamee Hang isn't as flavorful as the Pad Thai but still good if you are craving for egg noodles. I was surprised how the food wasn't as greasy as I expected it to be. Oh, and the peanut sauce was yummmy! I like how you get to choose the option of white rice and brown rice as well. I hope to come here again and try out something else, possibly their curry? Placed an online order for takeout of 3 dishes. Arrived to pick up a little early but still near the time specified by the website (15-20 minutes later) and paid for the order. I was then kept waiting for 40 minutes (based on the time stamp of the transaction on my credit card app) with periodic check ins where they would ask for the name on the order and go back to check on it and I'd hear nothing until the next "what was the name on your order?" The total wait time for a simple takeout order was about 1 hour, even though the website indicated 20 minutes. That alone was frustrating, but wouldn't warrant too low of a rating. We got the food back ate... until a metal shaving was found in the phad Thai. I guess whatever cooking equipment they're using is falling apart into the food. read more

Excellent food & service!! We got the Tom Yum with prawns, very good, although we are used to it being made with a bit of coconut milk. For our entree's we got Pad Thai with prawns which was also very good although a bit on the sweet side. In retrospect, we probably should have ordered it a bit more on the spicy side instead of mild. We also got a chef's special that was minced chicken, veggies, and basil, served on brown rice (#50-something). We ordered it as hot as comes. The dish was excellent...although their 'hot' is very watered down. Finally we shared a coconut martini of some sort...I think with chocolate shavings on top...very good! Pretty decent Thai food, I found the Pad Thai a bit sweet for my liking, but the fact that you can order things up to 10 stars made my dining companion happy. The decor is nice, however if you have short legs like I do, some of the chairs are a bit challenging. I felt like Edith Anne in her giant rocking chair. I get takeout from here all the time. The only thing I ever get is chicken pad Thai because it's so freaking good. The food is always ready when I get there to pick it up and it's been consistently delicious! Sometimes I dream about the pad thai and wake up crying when I realize it wasn't real. I always order the same, a custom item not on the menu, but it is really yummy- avocado green curry with tofu hold the green onions. Level 2. The quantity is enough for lunch the next day. Just visiting Bellingham for the first time and took Yelpers advice. This is a nice restaurant. The service was fast and friendly. I had the 30 Ginger Peasant, sauteed ginger, onions, mushrooms, baby corn, comes with rice and salad $8.95 with chicken, pork, Beef or Tofu. I got the chicken. All together it was an adequate portion. I also got the Thai Iced tea $2.50 and I took some Fresh rolls to go. $7.95 comes with a soy sauce dip. All of the ingredients were fresh, except the salad had a few pieces that could have been fresher. Every thing tasted very good. 4 stars only because I haven't gotten to try anything else there yet. We got to the restaurant at 2:30, lunch menu was still available until 3pm. There were 2 or 3 other tables with people and every one of them had already been served or were waiting for their checks. They gave us about 15-20 minutes to look at the menu. A bit long if you ask me. Then we ordered and eventually got our food. When we got the check, it was way more expensive than we were anticipating and we asked if he charged us wrong because we ordered off the lunch menu. He said we had ordered after the lunch hours were over, which we know we didn't because we were watching the time closely so we could go get our son from school. Then he said what we ordered wasn't on the Lunch menu, which we confirmed it was. And he said he couldn't change what he charged us because the computer system automatically changes and that we didn't order in the lunch hour. I was in Bellingham on business, and I wanted to sample local Thai food for lunch. It was raining cats and dogs, but accessing On Rice was no problem. Plenty of parking in the rear. As I walked in, I noticed the restaurant was clean, bright and tastefully decorated. (I enjoyed the elaborate wood carving that hung above my table.) When I walked in, a nice young woman escorted me to my table. When I asked for a booth, it wasn't a problem. I checked out the bathroom after ordering, and it was clean and tastefully decorated as well. (The painting of the slightly suggestive Thai couple on the bathroom door was also a very nice way of indicating that the bathroom was unisex.) I ordered lemon chicken (very spicy). The service was fast. (In fact the waiter had my soup as he came to take my beverage order.) When he asked me the spice level I indicated very hot. (Very smartly, their spiciness scales are printed on the menu with chili peppers.) Often when I order very spicy food at a Thai or Indian restaurant, I get the skeptical nod and the spiciness level gets adjusted down to white boy levels. Not this time. My order came out very spicy (as I wanted it). The portion was very good, and the black tea that I ordered was also very generous. The service was good, and the staff seemed genuinely friendly. I agree with many Yelp commenters that the food at On Rice appears to be different from the Thai food that I have experienced at other Thai restaurants in the U.S. However, I can not comment on whether or not the food at On Rice is genuine Thai, or not. I personally have never travelled to Thailand, so my only reference point are other Thai restaurant here in the states. All I know is that if I am ever in Bellingham again, I will stop by On Rice for another meal. read more

Perfect for a good ol rainy day meal or if you just want to escape from your fast paced life and slow down and slurp some curry. Apparently the place to go if you want burned ass crab rangoon and pad Thai noodles over cooked until they turn into a gelatinous mass. Surely any cook with even a slight at bit of eyesight would've looked at the garbage he/she was about to give me for $20 and realized there was a problem. This place obviously doesn't care though. Went here Friday night with my boyfriend around 8pm for dinner. We thought it would be busy but we were pleasantly surprised to find it pretty quiet. I was craving phad thai and my boyfriend got his go-to, drunken noodles. The food came out within 10 minutes and definitely hit the spot! Both dishes were adequately saucy and seasoned. Love that all their dishes come with rice (which honestly, I think should be a given, but we've found that isn't the case everywhere in bellingham). Exquisite Thai cuisine, and exceptional, authentic service presented in a manner that both intrigued and delighted! The peanut sauce was to die for, and the fresh rolls will linger on my tastebuds until my dying day. The only problem that I had with this heavenly castle of deliciousness was the effect that its godly food had on my naive and unsuspecting bowels. Overall it was cheap and pretty good in a pinch. Service was good, they weren't very busy and our waiter was friendly and on top of keeping our water glasses full. We started with Crab Ragoon and it was perfect, came out hot and was perfectly fried, crunchy and sweet. I ordered Pad se ew (my go to thai dish) which was yummy, spiced as I expected for 2/4 stars. I wish there had been more broccoli, but that's my only complaint. The noodles were delicious and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Brother got Swimming Rama which he enjoyed, it was cooked well and flavorful. Dad got a yellow curry with shrimp and seemed to enjoy it, there was a LOT of curry and a good amount of meat. Boyfriend got Pad Thai and said it was really good, everything was "caramelized and delicious". Those three also got Thai Iced Tea and loved it, "one of the best" (which is high praise from them!) They have an alcoholic version called Captain Thai (with captain morgans) that we will probably end up trying. read more

Called in today for 4 orders of drunken noodles. The woman described to me that they would be the same spice level on the phone, which I agreed to. One person in our party was nervous about the spice, however, so I called back ten minutes later (when she expressed the concern) to ask if one order could be less spicy; even though they had already begun cooking, we received one order that was labeled "less spicy" with a smiley face. .I have been a regular patron at On Rice for a number of years. Their Pad Thai and Peanut Sauce are the best in Bellingham(others seem to be too "tomato or Fishy")in my opinion. That being said here is my gripe~ unfortunately I can no longer eat gluten due to the onset of Celiac Disease(usually not a problem at most Thai restaurants). They have a gluten free menu but the problem is that at least one if not more items on the menu contain soy sauce(Wheat Gluten!) -the chicken skewers in particular have a thai soy marinade and even though they say that the Swimming Rama is Gluten free-they add soy unless you tell them not to?! Unfortunately I have gotten sick there too many times~I prefer my intestines to remain undamaged~ and last week was the final straw for me, so I will not be returning-but for all of you "non-celiacs" Great Thai food!!!!! read more

On Rice: Samish Location Years after college, On Rice IS STILL our favorite place for Thai food! Phily actually used to work at all 3 of the locations. In order to stay unbiased we will focus primarily on the food and not the service or management. The upside to this though, is that we've tasted nearly every single dish on the menu! We've been to plenty of other Thai restaurants after leaving Bellingham, and we agree this place is still the best in terms of taste. And just to reiterate, we've had nearly every item on the menu. * Free side of rice with your entrée! Many dishes come with a side of white or brown rice with your entrée. Most places do not do this. * The Samish location is great for college students! It is located very close to Western Washington University. * Thai music is played throughout the restaurant. It's set to a relatively low volume so it's a nice addition to the ambiance. CONs: * A little pricey? We wouldn't call the food expensive, but it's definitely not cheap. * "Authentic Thai Cuisine" is a VERY relative word. We'll put it this way... Do you have any Thai friends? Yah... we'll bet money that few if ANY of their parent's home cooking tastes like this haha. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing... as we have stated, the food is great! But authentic isn't the right word for it. * Chill out on the ICE! If you like the Thai Iced Tea... ask for less ice. Otherwise you'll get more ice than tea! * The waiting staff is a revolving door of college students. If you have special needs/requests with your food, we HIGHLY recommend you double check your order. There is bound to always be someone in training. * The Samish locations lacks the ability to accommodate for multiple large parties (6 people+). The restaurant is nice inside. The waitstaff wear traditional Thai outfits, which is a nice touch. I have eaten Swimming Rama and Gai Panang (its a chicken curry), as well as coconut milk chicken soup, also yummy. However, I do not have the ability to eat broccoli or any brassicas. When I told them this they said to have carrots instead, I'd have to pay a dollar extra! Then another time I came for lunch, and they told me the price was a dollar more than the menu said with no changes to the meal ! So, these greedy cheats don't get my business anymore. read more
