We were visiting the area last weekend and had read about this totally charming little cafe and planned to eat breakfast there. And, we are so happy we did! I just got back from On The Way Cafe and I have to say the decor looks much better than it did before. If that wasn't enough the food was excellent. I had the Philly Cheese steak and fries and a friend had the braised ribs, both were excellent. I will most definitely be recommending this place to friends and will return soon. Friendly staff and good coffee. A fairly unoriginal menu that was exactly what we were looking for: standard breakfast fare. One of the (presumably owners) was almost too friendly for our NYC tastes and said at our table talking just a hair too long - it was hard to enjoy the breakfast and coffee while keeping up extended smalltalk. All I have to say is WOW!. This place is a bit pricey but I was satisfied with the food. I had pancakes with eggs home fries and toast white bread with and a toast bagel with butter and 1 egg. Our son and his family live in Rye, so our visits from Baltimore always include a meal at On The Way. I have enjoyed talking to Grace and George over the years, and they always make us feel so welcomed! The food is great, and I was so impressed recently when I asked if they could prepare a completely salt-free meal for my husband who now has to follow a special diet. Charming cafe, I came here with a friend for breakfast and we are glade we stopped in. I had the Organic Egg White Frittata with mushrooms, onions & tomato with a side of toast without home-fries because that was not even offered on the menu. We shared two Plain Short Stack Pancakes covered in a powered sugar with homemade whipped cream on the side that was just delicious. The portions are not large and that is just fine who can eat so much food early in the morning. The place has plenty of tables inside including counter seating. The prices are reasonable but they only take ca$h. The parking lot is not large so parking is tight, and I do not know if they have off street parking so you should call them and ask. On weekends this place is a madhouse so it is best to come during the weekend. read more

I was visiting family nearby and was researching new lunch spots to try. I stumbled upon this place and was intrigued by the high brunch praises. I came in on a sunny Friday afternoon for lunch with my mom and brother. The restaurant is very unassuming from the outside but once you come in, you're transported to a cozy cafe. I ordered the grilled chicken wrap with roasted veggies. My mom ordered the salad and my brother got the pastrami sandwich. My wrap was amazing! The wrap is homemade and is soft and warm. The grilled veggies and chicken were cooked perfectly. I finished my whole plate, which is a rare feat for me to pull off. I sampled my mom and brothers lunches and they were also delicious. For dessert we ordered the Nutella and carrot cake to share. They were both delicious. If I had to pick, I preferred the Nutella cake, I never had anything like it. It was light, fluffy, and had great flavors. The staff was extremely kind and attentive. It was a great overall experience. I'd definitely go back next time I'm in the area! read more

I'm not sure I'd return to this establishment. I guess I had high hopes this would be our next Saturday morning go-to for breakfast but we left feeling let down. I had a bacon and cheddar omelet, that came with home fries and toast. The bacon was diced so small that I barely tasted it, the home fries were bland and the toast was your standard wheat...good coffee though! I am sure many folks appreciate fresh whipped cream with their pancakes and french toast, but prefer good old fashioned maple syrup, and there is a $1 additional charge ($3 for organic syrup). I was surprised to see "Cash Only" on the menu. I always use my charge card so thankfully I had enough to cover breakfast in my wallet. I was also disappointed because we were shown this fresh baked muffin that looked delicious and we certainly would have gotten a couple, but I was afraid I only had enough cash to cover our breakfast. (I was told there's an ATM, but I don't have a debit card.) The staff was very pleasant and attentive, and that's where I'm torn. I really wanted to love this little local spot, but I was really turned off by the syrup charge and cash only policy. read more

I'm all about small family-owned businesses, and I had heard this place was good so I wanted to try it. Unfortunately I was really disappointed. I hope the owner reads some of their reviews so that they can improve... The woman who came to our table was very nice, and told us a little about the menu. However, she also told us there was only enough dough for 1 wrap. She said she'd come by in a few minutes to tell us more about the menu, since my mom had not arrived yet, but she never came back. A waiter came to take our order; we asked for the last wrap, but it was already taken. That was 12:15. (I just don't understand how when the most interesting of your sandwiches are in wraps -- and they said for the ones I wanted that they would ONLY do it on the wrap) -- on the lunch menu, how you can only have enough for 1 wrap that early.) It's a very small menu so that left little else to order unless you wanted a burger. I got a salad which was okay, but not much too it. I knew this place was overpriced because I looked at the menu online in advance, but the quality was mediocre. My salad was not bad, but it was nothing special. My mother ordered an open-faced grilled cheese; the cheese was not totally melted. My husband ordered a turkey club. Again, just average, and there was hardly any turkey on it. For $12, it should at least be a hearty sandwich. A deli would have been better and less expensive. read more

Horrible, horrible customer service..... I asked the waitress for a grilled chicken wrap. Apparently, they were out of wraps. So I asked if they could put it on any other type of bread. The chef absolutely refused. I asked why.. I was told that it needed to be on a wrap. I said. Can I order a price of grilled chicken and seperately order some bread? No. That was it. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!! I will never come here again. pS. I just got an email from the owner calling me "pathetic" for posting a complaint. She noted that I am a baby and bitch and moan and that should she get me a bottle. I think this proves my point about how poorly they treat their customers and about avoiding this place. I have been coming here since I was a kid and have watched it change owners one too many times now. Used to be a favorite Sunday breakfast spot, not anymore. Food is decent but not for the price or the wait. overhyped at this point. When I was younger the charm was that the menu items were named after Playland rides and it was yummy and cheap. Never judge a book by its cover. When coming in from outside I had my second opinion. That all change when I sat down. They provide the service we need for having a newborn with us. I love that they have draft soda. They also have glass bottle soda. The host was outstanding describe the food. Where it came from and how they cook it. The coffee is on point. It takes a lot for me to write a bad review. I am a positive person and only write reviews when I feel the necessity to. But I really felt I needed to write this review. If I could leave 0 stars I would. The staff was incredibly rude and had no customer service skills. After trying to park in their very uncomfortable and way too crowded parking lot for a good 10 minutes, we finally got inside. We waited patiently for another 10-15 minutes without any acknowledgement that we were even there. Finally we were told, very rudely, that it would be a 20 minute wait for just 2 people and told in a way that made us feel like we were being pushed out and not wanted there. Meanwhile, there were MANY open tables and 2 open seats at the bar. Only a few of those tables said reserved on them and the bar seats were clearly open. Instead of saying good morning or any greeting, they were rude and nasty with an attitude when saying how long the wait would be. They didnt want us there and we certainly didn't want to be there. So we left after that happy to not give them our service. I would stay away from this place and instead head to Poppy's in the town of Rye. Great food and service there and they actually appreciate the customer instead of being happy to drive them away. read more

On the Way Cafe has by far, the BEST salads and wraps in the area. My favorite is the caramelized onion and Gorgonzola salad with sauteed pears. It is absolutely delish! The cookies are equally as enticing. Although small, this charming little cafe is a terrific for lunch with the girls or Sunday brunch with the kiddies. read more

What a wonderful place! Out of the way, may take a little effort to find, but worth the drive and time to enjoy. There were two of us, and we were greeted warmly. We arrived, seated promptly, and served attentively. Both of us enjoyed eggs brought from a local farm, perfectly portioned smoked bacon, and a short stack of blueberry pancakes that tasted like my grandfather used to make for me when I was very young. Good conversation from the proprietor, and a wonderful quiet atmosphere. We'll be back for sure! I travel for a living, and this will definitely be a place worth seeking out again and again. Stopped here for breakfast on my way from NYC to CT and I hope I can stop again! Very friendly greeting. I sat at the counter to a lovely placemat and white cloth napkin. Very nice touch. I had the pancakes with bananas and walnuts. It was served with a side of fresh whipped cream. Absolutely delicious. I also bought a crumb cake to go. Hands down best crumb cake I have ever had. Great place, nice staff. Perfect breakfast (scrambled eggs and eggs in purgatory), they serve excellent italian latte. 4 stars because of the chocolate chip scone that was too dry and very simple. Apple crumble cake would have been a better choice but next time we gonna try it. They were nice to my 2years old son too. We liked the place! read more
