I give one star just because I have found some cute items here. Kids are constantly growing so I have brought in new clothes, gently used clothes that were maybe worn once, and toys here a few times. At the most recent visit on Tuesday, the girl at the intake counter couldn't have been more rude. She's helped me before and hasn't been friendly once. She acts like you're a problem for bringing in clothes, when this is actually the reason she even has a job. She never smiles, just takes your stuff and tells you it will be hours as if to deter you from leaving stuff. Some employees are nice, but they are very few and far between. Next time I guess I'll just donate the clothes or throw them away rather than come here and be treated poorly. read more

My mother took my two year daughter here to buy some pants. My daughter is potty training and had to use the restroom, so my mom asked if they could use theirs since she's potty training. The staff at this location refused to let my daughter use the bathroom, resulting in my daughter having an accident in the store! This was not only humiliating and embarrassing for my daughter but also my mother! I realize covid is going on, but have a LITTLE UNDERSTANDING AND COMPASSION for the adults who are potty training the children. Both myself and my parents will never do business with this establishment again and I'll also be letting my mom friends know of the horrible service this establishment has to offer. It seems like the younger workers are always nicer, but there's a lady there that's either the manager or owner and she is awful. I feel like I'm in trouble for asking simple questions and like it's such an inconvenience to her that you're there. This was my first time in this store and the customer service was lacking but not terrible as others described. The store is very well organized and clean which is very nice. It was my first time selling and the process is fast and very efficient. I brought in about 20 pairs of girl's pants/jeans; about 3-4 of them being brand new with tags and without tags. They bought about 13 of them and paid me $11. I think the buy back amount is very low and therefore the reason for my 3 star score. They don't offer a higher amount to use as credit to shop either, like other stores. I think Kid to Kid has a better buy back program. read more

Great concept and some good finds, but it is hit or miss. There will be a stained t-shirt for $6 but an entire lined ASU track suit for the same price. It seems at times there is no method to the madness. And by madness, I mean literally and figuratively. Most of the workers seem unhappy and there are way too many items and aisles crammed into this small space. We literally could not get out pj's from the special aisle in the back by toys because there were far too many items. Items are not in the correct spots either, although I know this is hard to police unless workers are constantly combing each aisle. We rarely pay full price for kids clothes because they stain it and/or outgrow it in about 5 minutes. Most of the items are still under retail, although some more than others. Check out the clearance racks in the back for good finds and they have great costumes for Halloween and theme clothing around other holidays. Often have the large ticket baby furniture and toy items as well. Like their FB page for "just in" popular items and get a stamp card for 20% off after numerous purchases. read more

I don't think I could say enough about this store!! I love it! I just had my first baby and this store has been such a blessing. Kids go through clothes so much faster than I realized and since I didnt know the gender of my baby till she was born, I needed clothes. It has also been great for baby gear and toys. I check out the toy selection as often as I am nearby and they always have tons. My daughter loves anything that makes noise so I'm always on the hunt. Everyone here is always super helpful and nice. They also have great sales regularly. I highly recommend the store!! read more

Love this place they have some good brand gently used baby clothes n shoes they also have baby furniture and maternity clothes and toys you name it they got it in all sizes it's a store I have been shopping at for over 27 years they have moved a bit in the years but the clothes is always in great condition and great priced Nike and vans are like 10 bucks I live several miles away but now that my kids outgrew this store I shop for my grand kids and I'll continue to drive for great quality clothes here. read more

My wife was at the store last night 12/13/2022 to buy a doll house. It would not fit in our Sequioa so we opted to come back next day with a trailer. The girl at counter "said not to worry I will put on hold for you." We offered to pay twice but were told to "just pay when pick up". Well I am here to pick it up today 12/14/2022 and a Skinny dark haired manager, with No Empathy or Sympathy to the situation just stated. " Holds are for 2 hours, sorry. We sold that this morn and holds are 2 hours. When I asked for the manager I got the classic "I am the manager" like a broken record. With no care to the xmas gift now sold on my daughter who saw it last night. No care to the misinformation given out. Basically acting like we are lying about not knowing about some 2hr hold. (We were never told about). Sorry we do not know their internal policies. I rented a trailer to pick this up and am out my money, time, and have to break it to my daughter no doll house. If your store hours say you close at 5pm, then I would assume all registers would stay open but when we got there at 4pm, they had already closed the register to buy clothes. I don't know if this is standard practice or if they just wanted to close up and leave early. If this is standard, it should be posted on your website. As we were loading the kids into the car, a worker walks out the door to her car with a cigarette hanging (unlit) from her mouth...wow, what a great example to kids. read more

I'm rather surprised there are so many bad reviews. Yeah, they low-ball people but if you want a good price for your items do the extra work and sell them on FB marketplace. If you just want to get rid of stuff and make a few bucks then this is a good place. I've never sold anything here but I've bought a ton of stuff. I've found their prices to be pretty reasonable and have gotten a lot of adorable clothes for my daughter. I've found most of the clothes they sell are in good shape and they sell a decent amount of brand new stuff. I agree with other reviewers that they don't do a great job of washing the toys but I clean anything I buy anyway so it's not a big deal. I do think their toys tend to be on the expensive side. Their shoe selection leaves a lot to be desired as well. Again, like other reviewers, I've found that their staff isn't all that friendly or helpful but I've also never had anyone be rude. First off, to those who left the reviews during the mask mandate for Covid-19, all I have to say to you is grow up. Second, to those who say the prices offered for buying your items are too low, sell it online. They offer you same day cash to get things off your hands. AND, if they arent purchasing your stuff, maybe its because it's not "new or gently used" like they ask for. OR it could be out of season. If you wanted to sell it online, you would have done it. So stop complaining. Third, most of the reviews that are on here are from 2+ years back, which I would say shouldn't be part of the score. Things change overtime and letting these old, stagnant reviews count towards the score of the store today just seems silly. Finally, my review. If you're going to go in and sell things, go in early. There is no limit on how many bins of items you can bring, so if a whole bunch of people have come in before you, they're going to be sorted first. It's a first-come-first-serve basis. This does mean that it can take a while, but they don't ask you to stay in the store while they get everything done. All they ask is you come back an hour before they close so they can cash you out and give your items back. Items do HAVE to be given back as they have limited space to keep them until donation. On the bright side, there is a Goodwill just across the street. As far as clothes go, it's similar to Goodwill but higher quality. Some items are even brand new with the tags still attached! The toys are sold in new or gently used condition, so if pieces and parts are missing, the item is generally a lower price. Large equipment like strollers, bouncers, and swings are usually HALF of what you'd purchase them for in a normal store or online. They also test everything before purchase so if you want to see, just ask and they will show you, which is nice. The lines for check out and sometimes get long, but they're only human and they do have to take the hangers off of every item, as they reuse them. Overall this store has a lot of great things and deserves a better rating then the years old reviews make it look. read more

I love the Once Upon A Child stores-- I've been to each store in the state of Arizona. It's a fantastic place to shop for clothes and toys since babies grow out of those two things quickly. I noticed about a month or so ago that they probably don't clean anything that they have sold in; just buy it and slap it on the shelves. I purchased a play gym from the Scottsdale Rd location and brought it home. It was only once I opened the gym up that I noticed there was a large spit up spot. Not a stain as if they washed it and it was a little discolored but clean. The fur on the gym was matted flat down with the spit up. But I knew I got a good price, though I was very thrown off with the fact that they didn't make sure it was clean before resale. Any thing I can just throw in the washer I can live with, since that's what I do with the clothes I purchase as well. Yesterday (Monday, April 22nd, 2019) I visited the Gilbert location like I have before for clothes. It was tote day so I went ahead and grabbed myself a good few amount of things. Two of those things being a Fisher Price Rainforest Jumperoo ($40) and a Graco Pack n' Play ($20). I have a 4 month old and she's my first, so I'm a little weird about what exactly I put her in/around, so I make sure everything gets a wash. I was only going to wipe down the Jumperoo with diluted bleach, but figured I should take it apart. Imagine the surprise when I pulled one of the toys off and whatever mess of food or whatever it is that was packed against the toy smeared across my hand. My anger went through the roof and I made sure to pull all of those difficult toys off, losing one of my real nails in the process. I called the store immediately, but there was no real person to reach. The automatic voice system gave me the option to leave a message for an employee to call back or email a manager. I went ahead and left a very descriptive run down of what had happened, my phone number and my name and requested a call back. Today I received no phone call but a text message offer for double points on my next purchase through their rewards system. I don't have time to make the 14mile trip there and 14mile trip back to the store with an infant, so I sucked it up and boiled hot water and added bleach for the toys. I did the same but in the bathtub for the whole large pieces. I was also distressed when I realized I couldn't take the cover off the pack n play to wash off the large stain that was on the pad. After the Jumperoo, I ran another bath with detergent and hand washed that as well. I wasn't unknowing that they didn't clean their items, but to me this is over be top and the items should at least be looked at. This is the only once upon a child, that doesn't give you anything for trade in clothing. The other chains you get a decent amount back! Here, they'll take your newer clothes, name brand items and you'll get maybe $10 for all of it. I'm not really sure how they give nothing, seems a little bit of a scam. I like the tempe and scottsdale locations much better! Friendlier, they also always have specials going on! The Gilbert location never has any specials and they don't advertise Tuesdays are 20% off with the once upon a child bag.. all the other stores advertise it! This is the last time I will sell here and after reading the recent reviews I should of saved my time from even going there. I don't understand their rational of their purchasing, it's very random. They completely lack customer service. I waited in line to see what they wanted to purchase. 4 staff member behind the counter chatting and moving baskets around and one cashier. When it's my turn, the cashier tells the owner or manager next to her, gosh I'm so busy. I opened my mouth and said because you are the only one helping customers. Shakedown at the Door I went in to buy a bunch of clothes for my son when I noticed a baby carrier. I thought I could buy the carrier, put it on in the bathroom, and then have free hands to buy him clothes (since I was holding him at the time). I paid for the carrier, tried to go into the bathroom to put it on, they were closed for COVID or whatever, so I left and was accused of theft at the door. I had already paid for the item - but even if I hadn't - I understand this is a business, but this is a chain used children's thrift store. If I worked there & saw a young mom with a baby carrying one thing walking out I'd turn a blind eye. Idk. The whole thing made me pretty sad. This was my first experience at this store. Children's shoes are in bad condition but they still sell them for $10! Thanks to the red's hair employee for putting away all the shoes I could have possibly bought! I walked a few feet to the other stores in this shopping center and bought brand new shoes for $10! Hahaha! Not worth your time unless you have absolutely nothing better to do. None of the staff seems to enjoy their job. Efficiency and attentiveness are seriously lacking. They have tons of stuff to buy but most is fair condition and the toys are dirty... clearly the selection process is not very strict. I'd rather buy from FB marketplace or Kid to Kid.
