I went in to One Call Auto Mechanic today and had a fantastic experience. Matt is very straight-forward and came across to me as honest, fair and very competent. He did an oil change, tire rotation, filled up my coolant and replaced my front brakes in 90 minutes. The price was very reasonable and Matt gave me some good advice for future preventative maintenance. I went there because there were so many good reviews about this place. But I didn't have their service in the end. They want to charge me $60 dollars just for diagnosis even I just want to fix my left dip beam. I fixed my car in many different places but never been charged diagnosis fee at so high cost. Not quite sure how this place has such good reviews, but I was definitely tricked by the positive reception. Based on my experience, they were fairly belittling and a bit deceptive to boot. Outrageous diagnostic fee I wasn't even made aware of (got that "forgiven" after a 15 minute lecture), a quote hundreds over the competition and an offer to "negotiate" on the price only after I was leaving. Now I may not have buckets of experience with auto mechanics, but I can say that in most service positions a negotiation offer is usually due to a bit of shady practice the first time around. Was told by someone later on that people get towed out of One Call on a weekly basis, and I can definitely see why. Might be good for small stuff, I have no experience in that department, but I say definitely not worth the headache (or the second tow) for anything more involved. read more

My car died in rush hour traffic. After pushing it to the side of the road, and two errands to try to replace a seemingly broken cam shaft position sensor, my boyfriend decided to give up and call an auto shop. After reading reviews for places within the towing limit, we chose to go to Matt after reading a lot of great reviews. Matt, the owner, greeted us and asked us questions about the car and what we had done. He was very thorough, and easy to talk to. Being late in the day on Saturday, he was very honest about the fact he couldn't get to the car until Monday. Monday morning, we got a call from Matt himself. He explained the problem (the timing belt was broken), and the cost of repair. He was very honest about the fact that even after replacing the belt, there could be extensive engine damage. We couldn't really know until the belt was fixed. He didn't rush our decision and gave us time to think it over. We called him on Tuesday morning, and he answered right away. We told him to go ahead and replace the belt, and he made sure we knew the odds before proceeding. Around noon, we got a call from Matt... with good news! The work was done, and the car was running. He checked the entire engine and even took the time to replace ALL the belts that were badly worn (I had bought the car privately from someone, and unfortunately the belts were way past their life). When we got to the shop he greeted us again, walked us through what went wrong, and showed us all of the belts he took out of the car. He also had us turn the car on, with him there, and showed us everything under the hood. The original quote for the timing belt alone was around $300, which was very reasonable compared to other shops. In the end, the end price was just over $500 with ALL the belts replaced, and the car in working order. This was easily a $1000 job. Overall, by far, this is the best auto shop experience I've ever had. For any further maintenance or repairs I will be taking my car to Matt, and I would recommend anyone to do the same! read more

Admittedly, it's a bit out of the way from where I live, but given the reviews, I figured it was worth a visit. However, I was not disappointed. My car's issue was diagnosed quite quickly, and they got to work on it as soon as possible. It took a few hours to get done, but I didn't mind waiting. And while we waited, they came out and explained what was wrong, and actually showed us the part that was broken and how it was broken. It was a far more detailed experience than I've ever had anywhere else, and I really appreciated that. I definitely see myself returning for future services. read more

I was having some issues with my car (jerking and stalling). I'm fairly new to the area and needed to find a good mechanic asap so I asked around and was told about this place. Long story short my transmission was low on oil and since I needed a tune-up anyway I went ahead and did that as well. My car is running great now. This place lived up to the hype of the previous reviews on here. Matt and Trace were super nice. My wife's muffler was very loud and needed to be replaced. They fixed it AND looked into the brake and check engine lights that had been illuminated on the dash for sometime. They were able to fix and explain the additional issues without charging me as they seemed to be pretty simple fixes. Most other mechanic shops would have tried to squeeze more money out of the deal. We had mentioned that it was probably close to time for an oil change and Matt and his guys just did it....for free. When I called to thank him, he explained his love for cars and this business and you can tell he actually cares about his customers. That's why he has been around for 27 years. Matt is a great and honest mechanic. He treats his customers like family. He will only fix what needs to be fixed. You don't have to worry about being over charged or spending money on unnecessary repairs. He is the only mechanic in Columbus that I trust with my cars. I had an electrical problem with one of cars (Town and Country) that mechanics in Atlanta could not fix. When I moved to Columbus I brought the car to Matt to see if he could fix the electrical issue. Not only did he fix it, he did it at a reasonable price and walked me through his approach. He just replaced the front brake pads and rotors on my car. Some mechanics would of tried to also get me to change the back brakes as well. Not Matt. I was very unsure about using a car mechanic I have never met or that I had never heard of. When my boyfriends car died across the street at Auto Zone and they refused to help replace the battery (since they insisted it was the alternator) I decided to have the car towed to One Call. Within 30 minutes of the car being there, they were able to give us a direct answer of what was wrong. Simple battery replacement. Mike was very informative and communicated very clearly the problem. Also did extra investigative work on the car to ensure no other issues. While doing so Mike found a small engine oil leak. With the car having such few miles, Mike said to call the car manufacturer to see if it was still under warranty. This was what gained my trust of Mike. The fact that he didn't insist on taking hundreds of dollars to fix a problem that we can probably get fixed for free under warranty. I can't recommend Matt or this shop enough! Would definitely trust my cars here in the future!! read more

Don't bother making an appointment. It might not be kept. That is what happened to me. I was in the shop the previous Saturday for an ac diagnosis. Was told a timing belt replacement was a more urgent priority. While there, I scheduled an appointment to replace the belt for the following Saturday. When I arrived, Matt did not remember that I had an appointment and what it was for. Then he said that it couldn't be done until 2 weeks later! I was never notified that the appointment could not be kept. I had drove there for nothing. Now I have to find another mechanic to fix this as soon as possible. After I left, he took another customer that called that morning. This mechanic has demonstrated a lack of credibility and professionalism. read more

Searched around as best I could for brake change with rotors. Matt set me up with the best price around for a total front break change and cleaning up the rear brakes. This place is fantastic! My brakes went out last night and I needed to get them fixed asap. I searched online and found this place. I dropped my car off, and just as I was about to call a friend for a ride back to my place while they fixed it, Matt offered me the use of his own car while he fixed mine! That is simply above and beyond any expectations. In addition, the price to fix my brakes was hundreds below what others were quoting me and although I need additional repairs for a few minor other things, Matt did not pressure me or try to scare me into getting them done right away as another shop wouldve done, but was honest with me. IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! When I first read the reviews I was hesitant in taking my vehicle in to have it inspected. The owner is friendly, but very aggressive in his knowledge and the way he approaches his customers. The reasons I didn't give it 5 stars are...(1) pricing-cheaper than dealership but not backed my manufacturer & (2) honesty. I took my car in to have it inspected as it had over 100k miles on it. He told me my vehicle was in great condition and spark plugs did not need to be replaced. 4 months later, I took my car in to the dealership regarding a case I had open with the manufacturer. The dealership was aware there had been a case open with my vehicle so one would assume they would be extra vigilant in inspecting and repairing my vehicle. Come to fine out, all 6 spark plugs needed to be replaced, 3 would be visible for One Call Automechanic, and the other 3 were burried which he would not have been able to get to. So conclusion, always do your research prior to seeking repairs for your vehicle. Because the owner is so agressive with his knowledge, he would have argued with me because I am not a certified mechanic. I was charged over $200 at One Call for a "tune up" and the so called spark plug inspection was false. It was also discovered my serpetine belt was wearing from the dealership I brought it into. I would use this mechanic if you have a vehicle over 10 years old. I wouldn't trust bringing in a foreign vehicle to a non dealer because sometimes they require special tools. If you need a routine brake change or oil change I would reco this mechanic. read more

Never come here. The guy that was helping me tried to teach me how to count because I'm a girl. He then tried to tell me I put desiel gas in it. He then admitted it was 2 ignition coils and spark plugs. After that he tried to over charge for the coils and tried to get me to pay $85 for a $3 part. read more

Had my Jeep Wrangler checked out because the frame had a lot of rust. They inspected the it and it was pretty bad. They gave me some options to fix it up for now but the damage from the rust was pretty bad so I told them I was going to check with a frame shop to do the repair work. They allowed me to leave my car and store it at their shop there for a few days until I could find a frame shop to pick it up and have it looked at, They were very nice to work with and I will be going back for any other work. read more

My mom called Matt while taking care of our kids while we were out of town. She did a google search for nearby mechanics and found his number. He was SO incredibly helpful and took a look at our 2006 Odyssey - the right side slider door was off track and the first place she took it to quoted her $2000!! Matt took a look, and fixed it with lubricant and simply put the door back on it's track. And the best part - he didn't charge her a penny!! I felt obligated to write something about my experience with One Call. I recently relocated to Columbus and looking for a reliable/honest mechanic. After seeing all the great reviews that were posted here and actually being recommended by a friend of a friend I was very optimistic about this place. I did my homework and did eventually decide to call. I found myself in a hard spot with my later model car and needed to have it towed into the shop. I called and spoke to Trace, who by the way was GREAT! He was actually the only upside to my whole experience with One Call. I did have my car towed in, flat tire and all with the understanding that they would look at it and figure out what was wrong with it and get back to me. After a day and a half I called to check on it as I had heard nothing. I was told that the car had a flat tire.... UM... YEAH, not rocket science there. The mechanic that was put on the phone (I am thinking Mr. Bayati? but not absolutely positive) was curt and gave me the impression that he didn't even think that it was worth looking at the car, that I should just junk it. I politely asked him to please look further into the issues of why the car would not start and was told that he would do this. AGAIN, I was not called... I called back about a day and a half later and the same mechanic came on the line and told me that it was my fuel pump and that this was going to cost me $720 plus tax to fix. He then proceeded to tell me that he couldn't guarantee that the car would run once he replaced the fuel pump because as he said, there were rusted out wires everywhere. He indicated that the car had been sitting for a very long time. I did express that this was very surprising to me as I did know that the car had been sitting for about a month (not working, while I took the express COTA bus), but that I had purchased the car from a trusted mechanic from my home town. At this point I had no reason to doubt Mr. Bayati at all. Other than the feeling he gave me that my car was a lost cause... I had no reason not to trust him. I told him that I was not willing to put that kind of money into this car as it again is a LATE model car. I used my last tow to get it into his shop and had to work some details out to get it out of his lot and he did not charge me "Storage fees". I was however charged a $65 diagnostic fee, which I paid with no qualms. I did put that car on a trailer and took it back to the mechanic where I bought it. I might add that I was not a happy camper when I walked in there and was actually very rude to a man that has ALWAYS followed through mechanically for my family. I will eat crow for this in the near future! This trustworthy mechanic was very apologetic and vowed to get to the bottom of the issue, get me into another vehicle or to get me my money back. I did not tell him what One Call diagnosed as the issue as I wanted to see what he came up with independently. You can imagine my surprise when I received the call that he had fixed the car... mind you 2 hours after I dropped it off. IT WAS NOT the fuel pump. It was something to do with the spark plugs and an easy fix that was under $200 to repair. He also inquired as to if we had been messing with it as there were numerous wires that had been disconnected and had to be reconnected! I then inquired about the fuel pump and he says that when he first tried to start it he thought maybe the fuel pump might be bad, but had ruled that out. How I am not sure. SO. I paid $65 for a wrong diagnosis that could have cost me even more in the end! This shop would get NO STARS, the saving grace for this is the very nice treatment that I received from Trace and the fact that I wasn't charged "storage fees" (mind you it was there for 3 days after I CALLED to see what the diagnosis was). I just felt obligated to tell my experience as there are many good/great experiences on here and this was VERY deceiving to me and would hate for someone to go through what I went through without the ability to travel 2 HOURS away to a trustworthy mechanic. read more

I called them and they told me if I bring my car in by 3:30 they could get it done today. Once there they refused to take my car because the last oil change sticker had fallen off and was lost and they don't do just oil changes. This place is awesome. I came in because my engine light was on due to a break switch malfunction. The Gentleman working that day told me that it was a result of the dealership messing up on a recall repair. He offered to complete my repairs but he said it would have been better to go to the dealership and to call them out. I was really impressed by their honestly.
