We just moved to Lubbock. Which is back home for us. We've visited One Guy several times, but it now is our go-to. I could say go-to for Italian. But, it's an all encompassing go-to. Finally ate here today after over 10 years of driving by and wondering if it was any good. I will definitely be back! The margherita pizza was on point! Also, we have the gluten free crust for the kid's cheese pizza. They ate every last bite! (Which is so rare for them!) The waitress we had was excellent and attentive. Me and my husband decided to try this place out because of the " reviews. "I see they have two locations. We went to the 50th St. - we're never trusting reviews again!!!!!! Not even good dough, No sauce , no taste whatsoever me and my husband had to lather garlic powder ,Parmesan cheese , red pepper salt and oregano all over the pizza to even give it any kind of flavor or taste. The microscopic sauce that was on the pizza!!! No joke you literally had to get a magnifying glass to even find sauce on the pizza Was absolutely disgusting! I basically ordered tasteless dough with cheese on it! More like cardboard with cheese on it . The sign being ripped in half should have been my first clue, but we gave it a try any way. Walking in at 9 pm, with the sign clearly showing they close at 10. Apparently the swamp cooler was on the blink, it was as humid and muggy as a New Orleans bayou. "Would it be alright if we sit at that square table?" Well, that section is clean, we aren't sitting people there. After staring at her blankly for 2 minutes, she said, "well, OK." Dropped off the menus and took our drink order. "So, our kitchen is closed. All we can offer is pizza and a calzone. No sandwiches, no appetizers, nothing beside pizza and calzone, stuff we can warm up." Disbelief. Surely I heard wrong. I asked if they were open until 10. She said yes, just our cook leaves an hour early. We looked around at that point, noticed the broken tiles, dirty floors, and realized this just wasn't a good fit. The Good: - PEOPLE: Friendly service, feels like family - FOOD: Best Calzones in Lubbock The Bad: - GREASE: If you order a Supreme, be prepared for more liquid/grease than normal (because of the pepperoni and the mushrooms combined) The Ugly: - NOT CLEAN: I understand local joints sometimes are not as clean as franchises because they're not held to the same standards - and sometimes a less than pristine place makes a place feel "lived in." But I noticed many dirty and DUSTY areas on baseboards and and window seals. Things just have a general need of a good cleaning. But probably the worst are the bathrooms. It just makes you lose your appetite when it's DARK, dirty, old, and falling apart.... We can do and should expect better than this from restaurants here in Lubbock. read more

Horrible service and high prices. I'm new to town and was referred this restaurant. I'm disappointed in the taste of my friend who did recommend it to me. The place was filled with smoke because they allegedly burned some pizzas they said. That's red flag one. An Italian restaurant not knowing how to cook pizza. Then the hostess stand was just girls hanging out on their phones. Red flag two. Then the server/waitress never looked at us and was unpleasant and impatient. We just got up and left. Stopped in one night & tried the eggplant parm... Oh My Goodness! Very, very good. Served with garlic knots and a fresh delicious caesar salad with loads of parmesan cheese. Best sweet tea I have had in a while, even though it was late, the tea tasted fresh! Staff was great. Th perfect amount of attentiveness & leave me alone to eat. The hostess, Arriana (not sure of spelling) was an angel. I enjoyed my meal thoroughly and will definitely return. They were playing a local radio station that was grooving that night. Lovely place. No idea how everything tastes, couldn't order, but the place was empty and I can think of a few reasons why. Here visiting from out of town, I was born and raised here in Lubbock. I'm old enough to remember going to the original one guy and him saying a grand hello and welcome to you. He would have been disappointed in our meal that was served to us tonight. Came here for our daughters birthday dinner and we ordered several calzones and a pizza. A couple of our calzones were undercooked and there was no tomato sauce on our pizza. The waitress was awesome she apologized for the calzones. One Guy is a great place to grab a hearty, delicious meal. Excellent quality and fair prices make it charming rather than dated, in my book. Old school Italian casual done well, and we loved both the original and veggie calzones. They're what I expect a calzone to be, unlike the weird bready rolls from chain pizza places, these are airy and packed with fillings and delicious sauce. They offered marinara or ranch for dipping at a small fee, but we really did not need either. Ordering dinner salads proved to be a great idea because they were above average mixes of greens, grape tomatoes, onion and more...very refreshing salads after a long day of travel. A manager came by to check on us and he was so genuine & nice, and our server was fantastic too! My ONLY complaint was the restaurant's two hosts, a young male and female worker, both looked and acted like they were miserable and did not speak a single word (!) to us as we came in and were seated. I don't think words can properly express my love for One Guy's. Everything about One Guy's is perfection. I am so thankful that the pizza gods smiled upon Lubbock and placed One Guy's here in my life. I've been eating One Guy's more frequently this last year since it's on my way home from school/work. I get the lunch special, traditional calzone, and it is consistently perfect. PERFECT. The dough is amazing along with the fresh ingredients on the inside. Don't even get me started on the value of the lunch special, $7 for a calzone and a drink?? This must be heaven! The service is awesome, such a chill group of employees. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant. It is truly an authentic pizza experience.
