One of their most memorable dishes was a soup topped with a large, breakable, crispy rice cracker. It was served tableside, and the cracker slowly softening into the broth added a nice texture. It was a unique touch that made the meal stand out! This was a great spot for family-style dining for plenty of dishes to share.

The shrimp fried rice was super dry, the only thing that had flavor was the shrimp. I was worried that the orange chicken was listed as hot. It was not hot at all, it BARELY had any flavor. Finally the beef and broccoli was the absolute worst thing we ordered. The sauce was, for a better word, watery. The beef had no flavor, broccoli was fine..yipee. At least the fortune cookies were good. Psssht. I wish I had looked at the reviews more carefully. When a place gets several five stars in the same day or for several days in a row it definitely is a red flag for fake reviews, and now that I am looking through the reviews for this place, lots of red flags.

It is a rather large spot on the downtown Culver City strip. I looked at the menu and made it a point to stop there one of these days. One of these days ended up being Christmas Eve and I had guests over with nothing in my place to eat and I did not want to cook. I got to Yelping right away and saw that Fifty One was open and has a pretty substantial menu, filled with lots of options. I decided on a fish dish. 2nd time: was just as good as the first time now this business opened shortly Covid hit and then I was literally just trying to at least once or twice a week eat at businesses that you know of being affected by Covid I took my friend here and the portions were very nicely sized very good and it was a beautiful ambience now I just am completing this from it being inside of my review folder for I'm not gonna lie over a year and a half and it's with sadness and happiness in my heart that I'll let you know that this business has been closed down.

Service: we went for the happy hour and ordered a bunch of appetizers, our server helped us figure out the right balance of what to get. It was perfect and we had plenty to take home. Ambiance: the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL. The decor is perfect. I've walked by this place many times and didn't notice it. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS ME. Parking: street parking is tough around here but there are a few garages near by.

The cumin lamb was flavorful and spicy. The Mao Cai was spicy, full of meat and the broth was tasty. The boiled fish was my second favorite - spicy and fish was not overcooked. The fried intestines were really great! The shrimp fried rice is ok. I wanted either a whole fish or a whole crab but they ran out - on a Saturday night. They have a good Asian beer selection. $35 for corkage. $6 valet parking with validation. Free for 1 hour only with validation. It's a very casual place. Clean.

The reception wasn't warm as the girl was on the phone and she just waved at us to get in. Food was scrumptious. Their basa fish fillet in chilli sauce had to be the best I've tasted. The fish was tender, sauce yummy, veggies fresh! It was excellently prepared. Husband and Wife beef and tripe slices was another outstanding dish. It was so good I had to order more rice to eat with it therefore happily broke my diet again. Steamd eggplant with pickled condiment on top tended to be on the salty side, it was soft and tasty. I loved it! Service was lukewarm at best. The girl performed her service in a convincingly nonchalant way. But at least I got lemon infused water refilled twice. :) Well decorated with Chinese cultural elements. Very spacious, clean and peaceful ambience. We had a lovely time and will return.

The braised pork in brown sauce was rich, tender, and melted in my mouth. My favorite of the meal was definitely the garlic vermicelli shrimp. The shrimp were fresh and cooked perfectly, while the vermicelli soaked up all of the garlic sauce. It was easily the standout dish and something I would come back specifically to order again. The Kung Pao chicken was tender, and a good balance of savory, sweet, and tang. The restaurant isn't that big but it does have tables suitable for larger groups. This is a decent spot for lunch. The only thing is the dishes are a little more expensive compared to other restaurants. The staff were attentive, efficient, and made sure everything arrived promptly which I appreciated.

The space feels worn -- menus tattered, décor dated, the whole interior overdue for a refresh. For a restaurant positioning itself at the higher end of Chinese dining, Meizhou Dongpo is sleeping on the finer details. No complimentary tea service, and rather than offering a pot for the table, they serve individual tea by the mug -- a comically oversized Western mug at that. Chopsticks arrive without spoons, and when you ask for one, you get silverware instead of the porcelain you'd expect at Chinese restaurant. The Peking duck accoutrements came with a little plastic spoon on the tray. Small things, but they add up.The fried rice was a letdown too and looked nothing like the menu photo. Spots like Din Tai Fung and Lunasia Signature are operating at a different level and the gap shows. Meizhou Dongpo has the bones of a great Chinese restaurant. The duck alone proves it. But until they invest in the experience around the food, it's hard to recommend at this price point.
