MIAN completely blew me away. From the moment I walked in, the aromas set the tone for how good the food was going to be. I started with the house made chili oil dumplings and they were unreal. The dumplings were perfectly cooked and the chili oil with black vinegar was so good I ended up using it on everything. The staff was incredibly kind and happily gave me extra sauce when I asked. The spicy beef noodle soup was the standout. The beef was insanely tender and the broth was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat. The noodles had great texture and held up well in the soup. I also tried the Chengdu zajiang noodle and loved it. The sauce had that numbing spice and deep flavor, and the egg on top made it even better. Every bite felt intentional and well executed. The pickled cucumbers deserve their own mention. Crunchy, tangy, and full of flavor, easily some of the best I have had, even better than Din Tai Fung. On top of all that, they offer great deals after 3pm with discounted noodles and half off beer. I don't know if there's a place in this area (or in the 5-mile radius, for that matter) that offers almost two full meals' worth of food for 12 dollars (at happy hour), y'all. This place definitely smacks; I'm always getting me some beef noodles with L1 (a littleeee spice) and M1 (a little numbing oil) and it's perfect for my dainty tastebuds. The service is usually pretty quick, but they do a lottt of meal-making during happy hour (3-6) so it's arguably a little slower then. The ambiance is pretty spare, with some placemats that explain mung bean soup and some lower-key Chinese decor throughout. It's a simple place, but it really does get the job done. So glad to see this franchise opened a location on the west side! I think they're the first to take the Sichuan cuisine and turned it into a "formula" operation- to me this means you no longer have to drive to Chinatown or San Gabriel Valley, or find a small mom and Pop restaurant owned by someone from that part of the world. But what's more meaningful is the quality is now standardized, and the prices are much more affordable! We came to try their beef noodle soup and their dumplings. I have to say their beef noodle soup was very authentic! The wontons (called Chao Shou, which is what they are called in some parts of China) were excellent. If you like Chinese noodles or dumplings, or if you are a fan of Ding Tai Feng, you could come to this place and your money would buy you a lot more food! But don't expect the high end, decor or service in some of the more expensive places, this is an affordable and fast service type of place! With today's inflated prices in many restaurants, I think this is cheap eats at its best! My number one recommendation is their beef rib noodle soup; their dry noodles are also excellent; for dumplings, I recommend the pork flavor; and lastly, their mung bean drink is very refreshing. West Adams seems to be in the process of being gentrified, but it's still a mixed commercial and residential area. So at this writing (2025) parking seems pretty easy to find, don't know how long that's gonna last, however. read more

I had forgotten about MIAN in West Adams with all the new restaurants opening in the last few years so it was time to go back. Parking is not great as West Adams is busy and the side streets nearby are residential and pretty full with locals. Easy to get a table and via QR code all the food and drink is ready to go when you are - Started with the chili oil dumplings - first bite I was confused at the lack of flavor. But then we let them sit in the sauce for a few minutes and there it was, a really nice heat without overpowering the dumplings. Beef in chili sauce - we didn't realize it was cold - but had that good spicy tingle that you get from the Sichuan peppers. It was almost like a jerky, just not as chewy. The Kung Pao chicken was super fresh and moist with a perfect amount of heat and we finished off with the spicy beef soup noodles. Sort of ramen, sort of brisket, lots of great flavor! Stepped in to try this out and for the price and convenience, there's something here folks that just works. Ordered their spicy dumplings for a starter and their spicy beef noodle bowl. For the starter we had the pan fried dumpling which I highly recommend. Everything else was mediocre. I wasn't impressed. Service is always just so-so. I was also disappointed that they took off their lunch special from the menu - not sure if it's still worth it for lunch but the prices are good for dinner. Good amount of street parking but can still be hard to find a spot when it gets busy. Food wise, this place is a really unique experience. Be honest with yourself and ask the staff on recommendations on what you can handle. The first time I came here, it was really tough because I thought I could handle more spice and numbness than I could handle, and I ended up eating so little of it because I couldn't handle it. The second time I was here, I was smarter and did a medium amount of spice and much less numbness (I learned I really didn't enjoy a lot of numb). This decision made the experience way better and I actually got to enjoy the depth of the soup and texture of the noodles. Would recommend coming here but would probably also prefer to try the multitude of other noodle restaurants nearby before coming back. Known for its Sichuan noodles, Mian serves up a bunch of bold flavors in its wontons, soups, and more. Most of their food has spice, so if you enjoy spice, this spot is for you. Even though I'm not good with spicy food, I still enjoy Mian just fine. The inside has plenty of seating, and parking outside can be tough in the residential area. The Clear Broth Noodle Soup was tasty and plentiful. The soup is simple but does the job. Also, one of my other favorites is the Chengdu fried rice. The customer service was really horrible. We came in at 5:30-35pm and left at 7:20, there were only 2 tables of customers including mine and 1 other. We had to wait 40 mins for our food to come out. There were so many DoorDash orders but there were customers waiting in the restaurant and feel like since there are no other customers in the restaurant, they should do the customers in the restaurant first. The door dashers aren't there yet to pick up the orders and letting the customers in the restaurant wait for 40 minutes is absurd. After needing the check, usually you go on the QR to request for a check, I had to ring it 3 times and still no one. I had to flag down a server to bring us one. I visited there on the weekend, there were about 2 tables. The pork noodle dish was just too salty, like someone bombards with lots of spice without any cooking sense. I didn't eat much cuz it was just too salty. I had previously visited the branch in San Gabriel before, so I had the same noodle dish. For the dumpling, I forgot which one I had at other branch, I told about it to the waiter, and he recommended me dumpling in chili sauce. The dumpling was too oily and greasy, i just bit just tiny bit of 1 dumpling and realized that I couldn't eat it, so I asked waiter if I can replace it with something else, he went to the chef and seems like chef was mad at me, didn't want to replace it. We came during a promo in August and scored a great deal on the steamed dumplings and clear broth beef noodles. If you're wary of Sichuan spice, the clear broth option is a gentle intro. You can go "no spice" or "mild." I tried mild and found it a bit underwhelming, but nothing a little extra sauce couldn't fix. Speaking of sauce, the sweet dipping sauce with the dumplings is dangerously good. I had to ask for more (free of charge) because it was that addictive. My friend ordered the steamed egg with minced pork that was also very good. You can choose your spicy and it matches fairly right with the spice and mala level. The noodles were tasteless. The lamb was mediocre at best, it was chewy with no seasoning or flavor to speak of. The chicken katsu was badly seasoned ( see a theme?) The fries and chili oil chao chou were...okay. at best. They didn't pack the Mexican coke. I paid about 80 bucks all in for this. We took bites of everything, and then threw it away and got a pizza. The pork noodles were delicious, really good favor and very filling. The chicken dumpling were good, but didn't have a ton of flavor to them, I wouldn't order them again. I should've done the pork fried dumplings, but didn't want 2 pork dishes. This place would've scored higher if not for the service. The whole time I was there, the waiter never came to refill my water, even when it was almost empty and I still had a good amount of food left. As I said, it was not busy at all, I saw him just standing around and talking with coworkers. Never came to check in after the food had been brought out, I had to wave him down to get a fork. He did drop off the check before I was done, but did not offer to refill the water. Tried MIAN for the first time a few weeks ago and really really enjoyed it! Ordering is easy through a table QR code and the food came out extremely quickly. The only issue I had was that they brought everyone's dishes out at different times and didn't bring our appetizer (dumplings) out until we were half way through eating our main dishes. The dumplings were definitely worth the wait though! Some of the freshest I've ever had and I could see them literally making them behind the counter. We ordered the pan friend dumplings and they were so good!! Definitely one of the best I've had, the crisp was perfect and it they baked something on the outside that sort of tastes like cheese. First meal after moving to LA and I was craving some homey food. The beef noodles were close but a little too oily (my Sichuan friend wouldn't have minded). What I did enjoy about the dish was the fall apart beef chunks and the fact that this is the first (thick, cylindrical) rice noodle I've ever enjoyed because they were chewy and soft. A terrible experience here. The waiter was rude, the manager was worse, and the whole interaction was unpleasant. This review is only for the West Adams Mian -- the San Gabriel location is excellent -- but please: do not go to this one. I rarely leave negative reviews because I don't like to hurt restaurant businesses, but this experience was unprofessional and needlessly rude. We've eaten at both locations many times. San Gabriel has better food, but West Adams is closer, albeit the quality is not as good, so we've given it plenty of chances. In the past, we've always brought our pet in a fully enclosed stroller, zipped up and out of the way. We've been doing this for months without a single issue. This time, the restaurant was mostly empty. As we walked toward an open table, the waiter snapped at us: "No, you cannot seat yourselves," pointing us back to the door. Then, when he noticed the stroller, he sharply said, "No pets" and waved us towards the door. We explained that we'd been here many times without any problem and would of course respect their policy if something had changed. He said he needed to call the general manager, so we patiently waited. The GM came out and immediately waved his finger, scolding us from across the room before we had a chance to speak. When we asked him to please repeat what he said because we couldn't hear him, he marched over and launched into a condescending lecture about their policies and "what kind of business they are." It wasn't what he said -- we fully understand not all restaurants allow pets and we are always willing to comply with any restaurant's rules -- it was that he spoke at us like we were a problem to get rid of, not paying long time customers. The problem was never the pet policy. We would've been 100% okay if he had calmly explained the policy and we probably would've asked if we could take food to go instead. The problem was the complete lack of basic courtesy and professionalism from both the waiter and the manager. Instead of a simple, polite explanation, we got a lecture meant to put us in our place in front of the few patrons they had eating there. They've permanently lost us as customers. The San Gabriel branch is still excellent and worth supporting, but the West Adams location does not deserve your business. read more
