They have what they call big eye tuna but to me it looks like plain old maguro. I ordered the big eye and sure enough it was Plain old maguro but at a steeper price. Their smoked salmon was nothing smoked. It was seared salmon and not smoked. This place was just ok. Turns out I ended up paying over twenty 23 bucks in saShimi when I could have gone to a sushi joint and bought a plate of what I wanted for cheaper. One Piece is the spot for those who are cost-conscious and looking to get more for their buck. Their sushi has left me satisfied every time, both hunger-wise and cost-wise. They serve their sushi in small portions or by piece, hence the name "One Piece". (Nigiri is served by the piece and special rolls have 3-4 pieces.) We were looking for a restaurant near SFO and found One Piece Sushi on Yelp. Parking was a challenge because there was a football game that night at Capuchino HS. DH dropped me at the restaurant so I could quickly add our name to the waiting list. The wait was about 30 minutes. We liked the ordering system on devices that looked like cheap IPads. Service isn't the best, but prices are so reasonable that I don't mind. The food was ok. A good value but not great. The sushi was too warm. The fish did not have great flavor, but it wasn't bad. I did not have intestinal trouble that you can get from eating bad fish. I think it's a good choice for young people who want a lot of sushi for their $. This place is pretty small, and there is absolutely no decor inside. You can't even tell it's a Japanese restaurant. Everything looks very plain, but the food is good. I love the idea of ordering from a tablet. The tablet has some issues with responsiveness, and we found that we had to press the buttons multiple times to get presses to register. Food is delicious, and you can order a single piece at a time! Service is decent, and food came out timely. It's a big plus that you don't need to flag down the waitress to add items to your order, simply place it on the tablet, and see your food in front of you in minutes. We've been to this place a good number of times and they're okay. Their hours say they open at 4 and one time, we came with our family around 4:10 and they weren't open. We saw 2 people waiting outside leave. Finally, around 4:20, we saw some of the wait staff coming in. If your hours say you open at 4, please honor it or change the hours to something that better suits you. We were about to leave to go somewhere else. They didn't really seem to care much that they weren't open at the time they said. You order off a tablet and prices are cheap but the fish doesn't taste the most fresh. The kake udon is okay. The broth is good. We ordered a salmon donburi and our baby pulled it off the table last time and onto the floor before we took a bite. We told the waitress, but didn't get any replacements. We didn't expect anything since it was our fault. The rolls are okay but the amount of rice is more than the amount of fish or vegetables so you basically get filled up with rice. The gyu don was good. We were one of two tables but they weren't the most efficient in clearing things out. One of the waitresses was sitting near us socializing with the other waitress not mindful of us trying to get their attention. I also heard them using the microwave while getting our food ready, which is a big turn off for me if I'm paying to eat out. Their bathroom is clean. Overall, it's alright. What's great? -reasonable pricing -sushi comes individually or in small quantities so that you can try several different items -the fish tastes very fresh -quality -they have other options besides sushi which was also very tasty! -the specialty rolls--they were OK. We've had better. I think the nigiri options beat out the specialty rolls, but you should definitely give it a try. Our favorite nigiri: seared salmon! The flavors were delicious and balanced. Service: they have a great order from your table set up where each table has a tablet that they can order from, so technically you can order and keep ordering more if you do not feel like it's enough food. We went on a Wednesday night at 8:15 (they close at 9:30) so the wait was minimal (15 min?). One piece has been our favorite sushi place since it opened a couple years ago. Where else can you get decent quality fish for $1.50 a piece? For 10 piece set, you're looking at $15. Other places charge $17 for 8 pieces. Amazing for what you get these days. Our favorite go to selections are hamachi, smoked salmon, seared salmon, ikura, hotate scallop. All the fishes are cut in very generous sizes. The best thing is that when you sit down, you order right away on the tablet so your wait isn't long and they are pretty fast once your order is in. Ambience is low key - clean lines. It's a little odd you can't see into the kitchen area. Usually you can see sushi being cut . Overall an ok experience with inexpensive sushi. We've been coming here for almost 2 years so this review is quite overdue. I love the concept of being able to order 1 piece either sashimi or nigiri style. For the price, the fish isn't bad quality at all, but don't expect Sushi Sam's status. The service is really good, but we always go early right when they open, so I can't speak to when they get packed, as I heard it does later in the evening. Their seared salmon is my fav! If I were to give a minute-by-minute of my meal here, it would go something like this: Got here at around 8:30pm, put our name down, and got seated at around 9:30pm. (Keep in mind, they close at 9:30pm so yesss at least we got seated?) The place is pretty small... on the door, it says they're looking for a server, sushi chef, and washer... so I guess they're short staffed. While I was waiting, I only noticed one waitress... and occasionally a second? The main waitress seemed to be running around the entire time bussing tables and bringing out the food. Placed our order on their cool tablet about 5 minutes after sitting down. Tea and water is free. At about 9:45pm, servers came out to announce last call. We only got our teas. But it's okay, we put like $40 worth of food on our order so we're sure we'll be good. At about 10:00pm, out udon carbonara came out. The next dish didn't come for another like... 15-20 minutes. By then, there were only about 4 other tables there. But we are pretty quick eaters. We finished our 16 nigiris, 2 rolls, and udon in about 10 minutes. Got the check and were back in the car to go home by 10:40pm. Pieces that I liked? The seared salmon, hamachi, and salmon nigiris were good. The demon roll was also flavorful. I didn't like the uni here. The mackerel was too fishy for me. Overall, the food was alright. I would give it 3.5 stars if I can. I mean, it can't compare to Amami but the fish quality is definitely better than Kula (except for that uni.. blegh). I mean, you get what you pay for. At $1.45 a piece (for most nigiri), it's not bad! I just really disliked the wait... but then again, they WERE short staffed when I went. I should have expected it. Would I come back? Yeah. Easy, customizable, and good quality! I came with some friends and we were able to all order on the tablet at our table. This was great because we like to catch up and feel bad for the server having to come back so frequently to take down our orders; whereas, you can order at your leisure. My friends and I ordered random sushi rolls such as the spicy tuna, ones with eel, and baked rolls. All were served at a reasonable time and you can even call the server over from the iPad too. Rolls come out to $2-$4 which is a steal compared to other places that charge way more. If you're like me and had a hard time finding this spot, it is off to the right side on the side streets by Asian Pearl restaurant. This restaurant kind of reminds me of Kula except minus the crazy long wait and your food sliding over to you via conveyor belt--actual people actually bring you your food/drinks here and they're super kind too. You order what you want in the amount you want. Everything comes out in single orders (except the rolls). I got the chirashi don, one salmon belly, one hamachi belly, two seared salmon, and two white tuna. I enjoyed everything that I ate, but I probably would have been okay without the white tuna. I probably should have gotten more seared salmon. The two belly pieces that I got were pretty big slices. I like this place because you can order the amount that you want and you have the possibility of not over-ordering. But if you don't keep track of what you order (if you come with a large party) you can run up your bill pretty well. The location is great - it's never too hard to find parking in the area. It can get pretty busy during popular meal times so I'd recommend coming in the middle of the week or during an off time if you don't like to wait. It's fun to order off iPads (less human interaction if you're not about that life). The quality of the fish is always great, and the pieces of fish are always decently sized. You don't have to spend a lot to get full either. One time, my friend accidentally threw away her Invisalign so when we rushed back, one of the servers dug in the trash herself and found it for her!
