It's located in an alleyway, a bit hidden. By the time that you find it, you feel like you're a special guest in a secret place and that you will have to say a secret password before being allowed in... that's just my take on it though, maybe I had a bit too many by the time that I got there. The seating was pretty cool and the place wasn't short on patrons on a weekday evening. I noticed that there were a few board games available. The bathroom situation was a bit odd. They had two unisex bathrooms. Call me a bathroom snob, but I prefer not to use the same bathroom as Joe Blow who probably can't hit the hole sober, let alone when he's had a few. I ordered a cherry stout. Elsewhere, usually the high octane stouts are served in smaller glasses... not here. It was bigger than a pint glass. That was the first time in a long time that I didn't finish a beer. Come to think of it, that was the first time that I've ever wasted a beer. One World Brewing is wonderfully cool. It's literally a hidden gem in downtown Asheville. If you happen to be hosting friends in town, I'm certain you could impress and surprise the hell out of them by popping into this charming brewery. That is, as long as the sign isn't out advertising its location. Located on the side of The Leader building and beneath the space inhabited by Farm Burger, the brewery is reached through a few flights of stairs, and a pair of doors with heavy metal viewing holes that look like they came straight out of a speakeasy. The tasting room is charming, pleasantly lit. There are interesting lamp shades around incandescent bulbs that provide ample light, while still maintaining the spelunking delight of descending into this space. Board games are plentiful, Cards Against Humanity, Apples to Apples, Settlers of Catan, etc... as well as darts an interesting shuffle board like game. I would love to find out more about the shuffleboardish game, but on the night that we ventured to One World there were two separate hordes of loud and intensely focussed gentlemen pointing at various marks on a chalk board and discussing things with voices that meant serious business. I did not want to intrude. I opted for a flight and we were treated to 6 very distinct beers. I can't say that I had an absolute favorite, but the one that left the most impression on me was their saison, which is baffling as I usually detest beers brewed with belgian style yeast. Sacrilege amongst the beer community, but all that fruity spiciness stuff just isn't typically my jam. The staff was pleasant, efficient, and more than happy to take time to answer questions I had. Most notably, "What's up with the blocked off staircase that arches over the bar?" (The answer is that when the Leader building was The Leader department store that staircase led from the main shopping floor to the shoe department, which is where One World brewing resides now.) read more

So glad we got to experience this place on our short trip to Asheville. It was highly recommended to us by the lady doing our nails so we figured we had to check it out! First, we walked in like 10 min before they officially opened, but the folks were already flooding in. In hindsight, we should have gotten the flight because both of our selections were very good. The husband got the cider, which I even thought was good and I am not typically a cider fan. I ordered and loved the imperial red ipa. The whole place had a really neat atmosphere. To get there you walk down what feels like 10 flights of stairs only to arrive in an unfinished looking room, with great visibility to the beer making process. Very cool underground brewery. It has a secret club vibe while simultaneously seeming judgment free and inclusive. This is a place you can really be yourself and show was makes Asheville weirdly wonderful. The beer is great! My favorite was the Brett and Butter! Yum. So you walk up the alley, look for the big oak barrel ring and give the password - "I am thirsty, please let me in?" The response: "Just make sure the kids are out by 8" - Sweet! I know, father of the year award... Down two flights and you are truly in a nano brewery/basement/speakeasy space that is expansive. Don't let the tiny entrance fool you. Game tables, darts and rooms with the 1.5 Barrel systems. What impressed me most were the bartenders! Smiling, warm and chatty. Way to make people feel truly welcome!! You ladies get Four Stars!! In a town where there is a ton of competition and lots of great brews, I thought this place was just A-Okay. My Flight consisted of four various IPAs, and two darker beers. My favorite IPA was the Inner Thigh followed by the Citra Bomb Extra IPA. The American Brown and Patchca Mama Coconut Porter were just okay - there are a lot of coconut porters and ales being made in town right now. For me this place is all about the atmosphere as a whole - cool vibe, great staff and a decent beer. 3.5 Stars bumped to 4 based on the Inner Thigh IPA and the awesome bartenders! read more

We had some time to kill before our dinner reservation and saw this sign "One World Brewing This way". Of course we were intrigued. We walked up the alley and one single dude was sitting on a barstool in front of this circular tunnel entrance. They were at capacity but in a few minutes we were able to go in. Going down down down we made it to the basement brewery. It was definitely DARK but the environment was inviting. It was kinda like drinking in your friend's basement. It was definitely a small space, but well planned, and it didnt seem too overly crowded. I appreciated the crowd control. We got a flight of beers. The ales were definitely the better brews. the IPA was ok but not as good as others i've had and the stouts were about the same. overall, a great place to hang out and good beer made me a believer. I look forward to seeing what other tasty brews they have coming. read more

We stumbled upon this place our first night in Asheville. It's located next to Farm Burger, down an alley and then down 2 flights of stairs. The staircase looks kind of sketch as you walk down, but the taproom itself is a nice, large, welcoming space. There are games, tables, and couches. I ordered the Dr. Rudi Smash, a single malt and single hop beer, ABV 7.6%. M had the Trance Porter ABV 5.4%. Both beers came to $10.50. We settled ourselves on the couch against the wall and enjoyed the atmosphere and our beers. I really liked the Dr. Rudi Smash and M enjoyed his porter. Good brewery with daily micro brews. What you might have today might not be available tomorrow or even later in the day. Though right in the middle of Downtown, it is underground so you do not get the nice Downtown view as you chug your beer. Although they did have darts, so you could play as you hang out. And one thing which was a total turn off and the reason for giving them 1 less star is that the fact, they charge $1 for their sticker unlike some other breweries with the same rating. The suspense of trying to find this place was actually very appealing. As other reviewers have stated once you locate the globe and the side alley, you have practically made it there. They do ask for ID at entrance, which I think is great. The brewery is on the smaller side, but I enjoy intimate settings. Best brewery in Asheville! I researched and spoke to people intently about all the breweries in Asheville. This was one of our last ones we visited on our trips and if we would've found it earlier we would have just stayed here. The location is in town towards the French broad chocolate place nestled in between some restaurants and located down an alley and down some steps. Pros: -The bartenders were awesome, friendly, and we're super fun to talk to- easily the best service in regards to people that we had on our trip - The beer is good- all of it! They let us bring our dog in, which I'm always in favor of. I got the maca stout and my fiance got the "all along the hop sour". They were both really good imo. I'm kind of obsessed with their location. It's a little hidden gem off of one of the main roads in downtown, right down a little alley. It looks like you're heading into a speakeasy! The taproom is in a little cozy basement type room and they have a very good beer selection. I was only able to try one beer while there (Citra Bomb IPA) and it was hoppy and delicious. This was my favorite brewery that we visited on our weekend trip to Asheville. If you're from out of town, make sure you bring a sticker from your local brewery to stick on the pole behind the bar! :) read more

Absolutely love this place. Every time we come to Asheville, this is one of the places we bar hop to. I love the fact that it's underground, gives such cool vibes. The ambiance is very chill, and dark, kind of like you're in another world. And they also have a pretty nice selection of beer and wine. It also includes little games like darts and what not. Also just a heads up, they only allow small children to be in the bar until 8 pm but the bartenders did not make it a big deal! Once we found it we enjoyed our time here. Look in the little alley off of Patton. Neat little globe for a sign above the door. Head downstairs and sit at the bar. Unfortunately they turned a really neat stair case into a wall. As in, walk up three stairs and you run into a wall. I never understand why places do that. It could be a very unique part of this place but oh well. The IPA was decent. At this point it is pretty hard to 'impress' me with an IPA. It's gotta be off the wall different. This one was average. Awesome place to hang out and beat the heat, and even though it's all indoors (basement level), it's pet friendly! Staff is awesome and since they don't serve food, they let me bring food down from Salsa, the restaurant next door. Had a really good cream ale, and my husband had a decent Porter. read more
