Haven't been here in a long time. Took my family to try the buffet for Father's Day. As soon as we walked in they were like pay first. They did not greet us or were polite about telling us to pay first. They were rude. They did that to everyone who walked in. I felt that if this was the case, they should have a sign that you need to pay prior to seating or collect payment whe you walk in and not have you go to the opposite side of the room to pay. The food selection was good and they kept refilling items. They had steamed rice, garlic rice, scrambled egg, tocino, longanisa, fried chicken, pinakbet, pork sisig, picadillo, tokwat baboy, arroz caldo to name a few. They fall short on customer service. They don't walk around and take used plates and give you new ones. I almost felt like they didn't give you fresh plates at all. One person asked and in the amount of time it took them to give you a new one, it would've been faster to just refill your plate. Note, they are not actual plates. It's a plate holder with a banana plate circle in the middle. At first, I was like ooh authentic type vibes buti then all my sauces were mixing and it was kind of annoying. They don't provide you with extra napkins. You literally help yourself with napkins, water, coffee, calamansi juice. My family was annoyed that they didn't even have milk or decent creamer for the coffee. Instead they had powdered creamer. All the food we tried was delicious and fresh. Everyone enjoyed the sisig and the fact that you can customize there level of spiciness. Longanisa and tocino were perfectly cooked and not too sweet I think the buffet is like $19 or $21 a head. With the service fee and tax it ended up being $27-$28. It wasn't bad to try but I feel it was a little steep for a self service buffet. I visited Ongpin recently to try their weekend brunch buffet. It's a great deal with a nice variety of Filipino favorites to choose from. I tried their Bangus, Jefrox, Longanisa, Tocino, sinigang, pork & chicken adobo, spaghetti, champorado, bihon, Sisig, and much more. My favorites were the spaghetti and all the pork dishes with the garlic rice. The staff are incredibly friendly and this establishment has the family feel and famous Filipino hospitality. The dining area is medium in size and because of its popularity, go early to grab a table. Loved the food and the whole experience and I look forward to going back. read more

Ongpin used to be a good restaurant decades ago. We (whole family) recently have their buffet on the 4th of July 2026 and it was the worst food for buffet--salty, not enough selections (mostly meat--pork) and pricey for the food they offer. Pay first before the buffet. We ate a little bit only since we were hungry. We tried to offset their buffet with their small cupcakes ($12 each) to no avail--taste mediocre. Never again will we go back to this place. We drove all the way to San Bruno's "Isla" Pinoy Restaurant--way way much better food and modestly price. This is the place kabayans! read more

Bring your Tito/Tita and Lolo/Lola because Ongpin's Weekend Brunch is back! AYCE on Saturdays and Sundays from 09:30am to 12:30pm. It's $18.99 per person (plus 15% service charge). I don't know any other AYCE that's under $20 so I felt like it was worth it. They had a lot of food. Everything on the menu (see posted) in Breakfast AND Brunch Favorites was available, except for the Arroz Caldo. They however have other items not listed so it was still a full fiesta! This is for the buffet. The price is reasonable and there were a lot of choices. However some of the options doesn't have the great taste like before the pork in the Sinigang soup was a little odd? The sisig had a bitter taste to it. The tocino was good the Langonisa was regular. The adobo was really tender and tasty. liked the menudo. The picadillo was average. I remember that the food here was amazing and it was so good that we made it a point to visit and celebrate our special occasions here. The Jefroxs were really crispy. . The Kalamansi juice was watery. Ill come back when it is not really busy , and not a holiday, maybe the food will be better. My son and I tried their brunch. Place was crowded but got a table when we got there. I tried dinuguan was salty but was good. Beef mechado, needs more taste, pancit bihon, little soggy, crispy binagoongan, daeng na bangus, was good. Pork sinigang lacks its sour taste. Went to try their Filipino brunch buffet at 10 am today. It had an enormous variety of food which included all our favorite food to order from Ongpin- pork sinigang, sisig, pansit, pinakbet, adobo, longanisa, tocino, fried bangus, jeprox, champorado, fresh fruit, calamansi juice and coffee included, etc etc. A great value at $21.50 plus tax and tips. The friendly staff was constantly refilling the dishes and the owner was so nice and welcomed us like family. Being here felt like going to a Filipino party. My partners family enjoys this place and we ordered for pickup a few days ago. The food was so good and good portion size. Loved the pinakbet but wish it had okra. I tried this place because of the Filipino breakfast and brunch buffet. I arrived there, and the folks were very friendly and seated us very quickly even though there was quite a line. The Filipino food was basic, although quite delicious. They served garlic, fried rice, white rice, tocino, longanisa, Monggo, and other assorted Filipino dishes. The chicken and pork adobo was good, but I've had better. They had Kalamansi juice and coffee also. The price was fair and the restaurant was fairly packed when we ate there. My wife's coworker had recommended this place. She's never been and my last visit was more than 5 years ago. We ordered our usual lineup of garlic rice, pork sisig, and lumpia and while the food kept us coming back for more bites, the sisig was giving us mixed signals. Cubed pork in a saucy little marinade with fresh onions and jalapeños that brought just enough heat to raise an eyebrow. I stopped by on a Sunday for lunch last week since my homie was. Raving their tapsilog. It's been a couple of years since I've been there, so I was down. We both ordered our own tapsilog plates and some bbq pork sticks, and crispy pata. Their silog portions is pretty solid compared to most places. I also like that their tapsilog is more like steak strips compared to most places that use thinly sliced beef that taste like overcooked jerky. The bbq pork sticks weren't bad, but they also weren't Fil-Am. The crispy pata was huge and super crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. Went well with their spicy vinegar. Got $100 worth of food and was totally disappointed. Everything was overcooked and burnt. I ordered fried chicken and instead of whole pieces, it was all overcooked wings. They tasted dirty and it seemed like they were fried in old, over used oil. The garlic was burnt in the garlic rice and the eggplant relleno was also overcooked. Even the lumpia Shanghai tasted rubbery. I do not recommend this place at all. Try any other Filipino restaurant in South City than this one. read more

I wish I could rate this lower than one star. I came for the buffet and did not realize that a 15% service charge had already been added. I received no service--no water, napkins, or attention from staff--so I don't understand what the service charge was for. Then the receipt included a request for an additional tip, which I had never encountered at a restaurant before. I gave a tip, not realizing the money had already been taken. He took no accountability for his staff and offered no next steps on how he's going to make sure this would not happen again to any customers. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING! This place went from being our favorite Filipino restaurant in the area, to our worst. First, the food. We ordered crispy pata, and kare kare - our two usual favorites. But this time, the crispy pata's skin was rubbery on some part, and rock-hard on some. The meat was extremely dry and tough, and lacking the usual flavor. The kare-kare was tender, but extremely bland - A complete 180 deg turn on the food quality they served us. Second, the price. This place got a lot more expensive. In addition, there's an automatic 15% service charge added on our bill - which makes this place even more expensive - DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT. So, for those who will eat here - CHECK YOUR BILL for that additional 15% (for a party of 5 or less), and make sure you don't unintentionally end up double-tipping. So what happened? Whatever the reason is, we will never go back, and I definitely cannot recommend this place. Here's what I ordered and comments on how it was Crispy Pata- it wasn't crispy at all the skin was chewy so I had to out it in air fryer for 20 minutes Kare Kare- it lacked flavor and the sauce was runny. Ongpin is my family's favorite Filipino restaurant here in South San Francisco. This was also my late grandparents' favorite restaurant, introduced by my Lola's best friend in the late '90s. The ambiance is very homey with and decorated with a few Filipiniana fixtures. Everytime I eat here with my family, it brings back great memories and I'm glad their food stayed consistent through the years. My mom and I ate here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Please note since covid, they are only open on certain hours during lunch and dinner. They do close lunch at 2:30pm and their kitchen is closed by 2:15pm. Be sure to arrive on time during their business hours. My mom ordered the Sisig Silog and while I ordered Tocilog. We received our orders within 10 minutes and the staff are truly accommodating. Their tocino is not on the sticky side, but I was still impressed because it was still sweet and well marinated. Their garlic rice has generous portions of toasted garlic (I'm a huge fan of that). Their sisig (not pictured) was perfectly sizzled with raw onions and green chili peppers. We also ordered some Chicken Barbecue to go. This is an established Filipino restaurant that's been a fixture in South San Francisco for over 20 years. (Fun fact, the location was previously a Comic Book/Card shop called Fantasy Comics in the 1990's.) Service is usually very quick and there is not a long wait. For Filipinos looking for authentic home cook-tasting Filipino food, this is definitely the place to go to. You can't go wrong with anything you choose. Not sure if it's the same owner or cook but there was evident it wasn't quite the same, didn't get a welcoming vibe. If you're expecting a casual restaurant, this place is not it. But if you're craving for authentic home-cooked type meal at an eatery... you're at the right place. Although the place had pretty much zero decorative efforts, it is clean. It is small but can still accommodate large parties of 10-12 people. The servers were nice and friendly. Our craving for Filipino breakfast was definitely satisfied. We had the tocilog and it was very good. They ran out of bangsilog so we end up ordering the bangus sisig entrée. The garlic fried rice had tons of garlic and was super garlicky. I'm on the fence on this one. The dipping sauces for both dishes were really good. Been a long time since I was last here. Mom craving pancit palabok and don't know many places that make this dish anymore. From Yelp, saw that Ongpin still makes this dish so decided to check it out. Plenty of tables available when we arrived. Staff were slow to greet us and/or show us to a table. Took a while to get someone's attention to take our order, too. We decided on: 1) Sizzling Bangus Sisig - We were brought the sizzling pork Sisig rather than the Bangus Sisig, so had to return it for the correct dish. Took a while but we liked this dish. Although there were quite a few onions, lots of flavor. 2) Crispy pata w/ garlic sauce - crispy pieces of skin. Meat is moist. And that garlic sauce??? So good. Added it on top of everything. 3) Pancit Palabok - unfortunately, there was no flavor in this dish. However, good when eating with the Bangus Sisig as it added flavor. Did not satisfy the craving, though. 4) Garlic rice - again, brought us regular rather than garlic rice as requested, and had to get that exchanged as well. One side order of garlic rice was plenty for us to share. Despite the wrong food delivered, they corrected the order and apologized. Good sized portions and we had leftovers to take home.
