We got some onigiris here and loved everything we tried. They come with a lot of rice, but there was actually a reasonable amount of filling inside as well. We ended up getting the Onigiri Quartet, and because each one has a good amount of rice, you can actually get pretty full from them. We tried the teriyaki salmon, crab salad, KBBQ prime beef, and tuna mayo. Personally, my favorite was the simple crab salad, but they were all pretty good. Coming from a mall, I was pretty impressed that this was an option. I'd definitely get these again!

Unfortunately, the food was extremely bland. I ordered the spicy salmon and spicy tuna mayo onigiris, but both were pretty disappointing. The quality wasn't great, and despite being labeled "spicy," there was basically zero spice. The biggest issue was the texture--the onigiris completely fell apart after just one bite, which made them pretty difficult to eat. That said, I also understand this is mall food at the end of the day, so I wasn't expecting anything too crazy.

3/5 I stopped by Oniguru at The Shops at Mission Viejo and ordered a small poke bowl with Hawaiian salmon and Hawaiian tuna. The bowl was good, but honestly just okay for me. I liked it, but it didn't really stand out enough for me to want to rave about it. The customer service was definitely a plus! The lady who helped me was very nice, helpful, and took the time to explain everything and help me with my order. Another convenient thing is that it's located right next to the bathroom, which is definitely a plus when you're shopping at the mall, especially with kids. Overall, a decent experience. The customer service and convenient location were great, but the food was just average for me. 3/5.

Located in the mission Viejo mall food court, they serve various rice balls and poke bowls. Ordered 4 onigiris with beef, crab, salmon and tuna. Each filling/ topping was tasty and seasoned well. They were pretty big, and 4 was enough for2 people. Only issue I found is that they were packed a little too lightly and fell apart when trying to each, needed a fork to eat them. Overall good quality, about 4-5 bucks a piece.

I was so happy to see this new restaurant pop up in the food court! I love onigiri but their availability is very limited. Especially for the good quality ones. I was greeted by a very pleasant employee who helped me order since it was my first time visiting. She recommended the teriyaki salmon for my flavor and it did not disappoint! I loved it! I wasn't very hungry so I just ordered one onigiri and it was the perfect amount of food. I would definitely only need 2 to be full. The seaweed was fresh and crispy and the seasoning on the rice was absolutely delicious! I will definitely be back here again soon!! Next time with a bigger appetite!

It hurts to share our experience because we really really want to love this place. Unless you're ordering a poke bowl, the onigiri take a very very long time. People who ordered after us and also ordered onigiri received their food before we did. The poke bowl was quick. Compared to other poke places, it was too much rice and not enough of the fish, veggies and other components. The fish pieces were sinewy and flavor wasnt good. We ordered four onigiri - two salmon, one beef bulgogi and one tuna. Again the ratio of rice to everything else was off (too much rice) and the tuna one was sour. We couldn't eat it. It's in the mall food court so there's plenty of seating. We tried the Ladera Ranch location before and liked the food. Our order was accurate so I'll give credit for that aspect. But for the price and disappointing experience, we won't be returning to this one.

Loved having a healthier option at the food court at the mall in Mission Viejo! Service was excellent. Made a 4 protein poke bowl. Love the unlimited topping choices you can add. Came out to under $19. I could definitely make two meals out of a bowl. The protein was fresh. No stomach ache as per previous poke places -- win!!! Hubby got the truffle corn. He liked it. Food court ambiance. Quick & comfy booths to eat in.

So we all got what we wanted to eat at the food court tonight. My sister wanted to try OniGuru, a new poke place just popped up in the food court of Mission Viejo mall. She got a bowl and some rice balls. Not sure what flavor her husband and her got but they liked it. I was going to order something there at first, but when I approached the counter, the smell of raw fish discouraged me from ordering. For as much as I like fish, I just do not enjoy that fishy smell of raw fish.

This place deserves 10 stars! Everything from the people who work there, the food and the fresh ingredients they use are amazing! It's been a while since I had Onigiri, there are not many places in Orange County. When I saw this cute place, I had to try it. I'm so glad I did! The Onigiri trio was amazing, the girls were the sweetest and helped me to decide what to get. It's so refreshing to have a different option in the food court. It was my first time, but for sure not the last. They now have a regular, I'm hooked! You guys are awesome, see you soon:)

Crazy to say that it's been a hallmark establishment in our rotation for probably the past year or more. More so these days since husband has been optimizing his meals for protein to help his workouts. iykyk. His go-to order consists of chicken teriyaki & sashimi combo and sashimi combo. He's consistent to the point that Luke, the owner, asks whether his order will be the same today, haha. The benefit with double sashimi is that it's pure protein with low calories, so for him it's great because he can reserve some calories for a cheat meal or snack later in the day. For me, I'm not counting macros, so I like to bounce around the menu depending on what I'm in the mood for. I usually go back and forth between hand or cut rolls and the poke salad, but sometimes I get a little adventurous and get my own sashimi. However, the benefit of my husband's meal is that I get to eat his albacore sashimi because he's not a fan, so I usually opt for something else when I'm getting my own thing. Overall, my repeat favorites have been the poke salad, spider roll, salmon lemon roll and anything with yellowtail. My typical go to is anything with salmon sashimi, but Koko's yellowtail is so buttery that I'm a new fan of anything with it. Even as regulars, I still look forward to having a meal here. Plus, the price is unbeatable for their combo meals and it's very reasonable. The combination meals come with salad, miso soup and rice so it satisfies and fills the tummy.

The restaurant was nearly empty, so I was a little surprised by the mildly dramatic reception about wondering where we'd been. For a moment I thought perhaps a search party had been organized. Fortunately, that was basically the end of the weirdness. Our server was excellent. Friendly, patient with the kids, knowledgeable about the menu and most importantly, honest. We came in wanting to try a little of everything and he steered us well. When a table wobbled, they fixed it immediately. The kids got the right utensils without us having to conduct negotiations. He even suggested putting the grilled squid in early because it would take longer. Small things, but restaurants are largely collections of small things. The reason to come here is the soba. MINAMI makes it in house and you can tell. It has that slightly stubborn chew good soba should have, not miraculous, not the greatest bowl of soba I've encountered in my life, but very good and unmistakably made with some care. I switched my order to cold bukkake and added grated mountain yam and a poached egg. Delicious. The additional $7.75, however, briefly made me wonder whether the yam had been carried down from Mount Fuji by hand. I understand restaurants are expensive now. Ingredients are expensive. Labor is expensive. Existing in Southern California is expensive. Still, $7.75 for grated yam and an egg is $7.75 for grated yam and an egg. Even our server seemed aware of the absurdity, which somehow made me like him more. The grilled squid was another winner. Cooked properly, tender instead of being transformed into the rubber gasket squid so often becomes. I would've happily eaten a larger piece, especially for the price. The fried oysters were more complicated. Beautiful crunch, nicely fried, but ours carried enough of that funky, ocean floor oyster flavor that nobody at the table was fighting over the last one. The hamburg steak was fine. Perfectly competent. Nobody will write home to Japan about it. The lightly battered shrimp was much better. Crisp, airy batter with a creamy roe style sauce that worked beautifully. The shrimp themselves had a slightly stronger seafood flavor than I prefer, which keeps the dish out of masterpiece territory, but I'd order it again. Oddly enough, one of my favorite things on the table was the simplest, the kids' hot udon. The broth was light, clean and comforting rather than beaten to death with salt. The children absolutely demolished it. They were considerably less impressed by the soba, but they are also two, four and five, so I will not be consulting them on noodle craftsmanship just yet. The room itself is comfortable and reasonably clean, though there are little signs of wear. A few tables weren't being used, ours needed stabilizing and the place doesn't have that immaculate precision you sometimes get from a great Japanese restaurant. Nothing alarming. Just noticeable. That's basically MINAMI. A few rough edges surrounding some genuinely good cooking. It isn't cheap. Order enthusiastically, as we did, and the arithmetic starts getting adventurous. Some dishes feel fairly priced, others make you stare at the receipt for a moment and reconsider your understanding of root vegetables. But the handmade soba is good. The squid was good. The udon broth was excellent. There were enough interesting things on the menu that I left already knowing what I'd try differently next time. And our server turned what could've been a merely decent meal into a genuinely enjoyable one. That's worth something. I'd come back, just perhaps without accessorizing my noodles like a Porsche.
