When walking around trying to remind yourself that it was only running 13.1 miles earlier that morning in Lahaina, you try to find a suitable way to take your mind off of things. Enter Ono Gelato at Whaler's Village. I guess I did not notice this new gelato place here in Whaler's Village on previous trips to Maui, since I usually go to the Hagen Daz ice cream parlor also in Whaler's Village. Imagine my surprise when Ono Gelato caught my eye and the struggle was real. I ended up getting some Maui gelato here as a sweet reward for those 13.1 miles earlier in the morning. It's a small little shop, although looked more like an airport kiosk shop, which is right across the way from the mini food court in Whaler's Village. Like with most ice cream stops, the experience here was brief, but rewarding at the same time. This sweet treat stop was made possible with the hard work and dedication of me being a crazy endurance athlete who likes to travel and do these type of things. The service was nice and friendly. The lady at the counter let me sample a few flavors before settling on one flavor, which was nice of her. I'm a chocolate whore, so anything chocolate or chocolate covered was definitely my bag. I usually hit up the pure chocolate ice cream, so gelato isn't different. You can't usually go wrong with chocolate though. My existence usually evolves around chocolate and running marathons. Or so I think lol It was definitely a nice change from Hagen Daz when I've been to Rome, Italy and experienced real gelato from the source. While Ono Gelato isn't the same deal, it provided my tastebuds with the sweet goodness that is a welcomed reward after 13.1 miles on foot. This quick stop at Ono Gelato was a good one. The overall experience here at Ono Gelato was easy, friendly, and quick, while being a delicious way to spend the afternoon and wind down in Kaanapali before dinner times. I was here around 4:00pm and left at 4:15pm. I got a large serving of the chocolate gelato, which ended up to be close to $10. Maybe I should have gotten a pint for $13, but I was just happy that I was done racing for the weekend and happy to pay for gelato. When in Maui, have gelato! It's a delicious treat when you are shopping at Whaler's Village. The overall experience here at Ono Gelato Was nice and casual. While it was basically a fast food encounter, the lady was approachable and helped me out with sampling the various flavors of gelato she had for the day. Thought the chocolate was really good. I would likely come back to revisit Ono Gelato on my next trip to Maui instead of Hagen Daz. While it may be pricey, you're in the tourist zone and be expected to pay that much for pretty much everything in the area. I would recommend coming here to sample what Ono Gelato has to over. You'll be surprised! For the most part though, Ono Gelato is a fun place to get your gelato, which can be nice versus getting some at the store. Less hassle but you pay for location, since it's right on kaanapali beach and towards the back of Whaler's Village. If you're craving for gelato after a day of sun at the beach, come on over to Ono Gelato. It's a decadent way to celebrate the fact that you're on Maui and that's awesome! They are located in Whaler's Village at 2435 Kaanapali Parkway in Kaanapali and they accept major credit cards and cash as well. Best bet would be to probably walk on over to whaler's village if you're staying nearby at one of the hotels along kaanapali Parkway. If not, whaler's village has paid parking garage for anyone who wishes to park there for dining and shopping. Uber and lyft is great too, although renting a car is an option too. Public bus options are somewhat reliable, although you'd need to pay attention to the schedule of departure times from Whaler's Village. It's gelato, so anytime I want some freshly made Maui gelato, I'll try to remember Ono Gelato on my next trip to Maui. Check them out. It's fun, delicious, and soothes the soul. It'll relax your tastebuds and satisfies your sugar fix for sure. It's definitely a winner. Stopped by this evening after dinner for dessert. Was hoping for macadamia nut but they didn't have it. I asked for a sample of another flavor, the young lady said "we don't do samples" with a bored attitude. They have interesting flavors like tiramisu, mocha, salted caramel, raspberry, etc. we got a medium (2 flavors) in a cone ($6.35) with salted caramel and stracciatella (sweet cream gelato with dark chocolate shavings). comments/my experience: YUM! came here after dinner at around 9 pm on a Thursday and I couldn't decide what I wanted (typical) they had very unique flavors and a friendly staff! we ended up getting tiramisu and their chocolate chip (had a fancy name however I don't recall) it was delicious and very flavorful. the gelato melted quick but it was smooth and the texture of the chocolate made it very crunchy (in a good way) the tiramisu did not overkill the ice cream (as some places tend to) and it wasn't too sweet! just right for me as a treat to end the day service: friendly staff! they had 3 people working and it was very efficient. price: don't know if I took a picture but the smallest one is around $5.50 and the sizes go up. it should be food: notes/tips: it melts very quickly so don't be too ambitious because their cups are small! read more

Gelato had great presentation but when I actually got mine most of the garnish/toppings were mostly on the top. The actual gelato was good, but had hardly any of the chocolate chips & nuts that were displayed on top. The prices were kind of steep, but there were pretty long lines every time we walked by, so lots of people were willing to pay those prices. Gelato for dessert? Always a good idea. This is located in Whaler's Village so it was a great location for dessert and shopping after dinner. The girl helping us tonight was so friendly! She told us she liked to mix salted caramel and mint. It sounded strange so she let us sample that combination but and it was actually pretty tasty! Sandy Beach - This was peanut butter and crushed graham crackers. I love peanut butter so this was an obvious choice for me. It was so creamy and thick. The crushed graham crackers gave it that extra oomph. It was on the sweet side but I was fine with it. Coffee Crunch - Coffee ice cream with chocolate chunks. What a phenomenal combination. The chocolate did get pretty crunchy though since it was mixed in with cold gelato. We really liked this place for gelato. The texture and flavors were good. read more

I'm not normally a fan of sorbetto, but Ono Gelato has nailed sorbetto that has a beautiful creamy mouthfeel and great flavor. Don't miss the raspberry sorbet and mango sorbet. I'm so grateful that this place was within walking distance of our hotel!! I gave it a try on our third evening in Maui. I sampled a few flavors and the winners were clear - Grasshopper (Chocolate mint gelato with chocolate mint cookies) and Sandy Beach (peanut butter gelato with graham crackers). This gelato is SUPER creamy and soft, just the way I like it! They also have another location in Historic Lahaina. I visited there as well. All good decisions. I wish I could have just one more scoop of Grasshopper!! Why does it have to be so far away?!? Hopefully we'll visit again someday and hopefully they'll still have those flavors! read more

We stop here at least once every trip and it has never let us down. Not the most amazing gelato in the world but a solid option especially if you're in or near whalers village, and it's nice to grab some and walk around the shops and enjoy the sunset. My personal favorite is the coconut, but their chocolate based flavors are also always great. Service was excellent when we were there last, the guy working was so friendly and helpful. Sadly they weren't doing samples this past time (I guess due to covid? Seems kind of ridiculous to me) so you kind of just have to take a guess at what you may like and suck it up if it's not your favorite. That seemed pretty standard for all the gelato/ice cream shops we stopped at on our trip though, so while frustrating it's not anything specific to this shop. Keep in mind there's no free parking here, so if you drive over you have to pay to park in the village parking garage. I tried to macadamia but and went back for more, I had to it was so delicious. It is unfair to judge the entire shop based on one try so I had to have others. My wife and I ordered chocolate and mint chip. Both flavors were delicious. They actually keep the gelato for people with allergies in a separate place from the same flavors being served to people without allergies in order to avoid cross contamination. This particular shop did not have as many options as another gelato shop we visited, but still plenty to try. They do not offer samples, at least not when we visited in March 2022. The staff were okay, could have been more friendly in my opinion. This shop also seemed to have higher pricer for the portion received. All things to keep in mind when visiting. Had the Maui Mocha - which had an intense coffee flavor with chocolate ring to it. Coffee beans and crushed chocolate chips go along pretty well. We got here Wednesday 7/28 and everyday we passed by this place with huge line. Finally Monday night we passed by and the line was only 4 people so we decided to give it a try. What a mistake! Gelato is simply delicious. We tried a few flavors while we were there but my favorite by far was the Macadamia Nut Gelato. It was butter, not too sweet or overpoweringly perfect! I'm a little shy to admit that I had it three nights in a row- when you're on vacay who keeps count, rt!? Admittedly, we could also see the little shop from our room window, which didn't help fighting the temptation. To add, I also bought many of my gifts for colleagues, friends, and family from this gelato store. They actually had goodies that were made in Hawaii, unlike most other stores that sell primarily China or Indonesia made goods. Just a note that the service is slow and really laid back, but I feel that Hawaii in general is accustomed to this and it's apart of their the Hawaiian culture. Well considering I just came from Rome Italy less than 30 days ago I don't know if they were going to measure up to my expectation considering I didn't think I could find gelato or pastries anywhere in the world that matched wrong however I am pleased to report that this small gelato establishment is worth trying my personal favorite is the macadamia nut and in total they have about 12 different selections for you to choose from as well as hand made organic cotton candy which I think I might have to snag a bucket and some other local goodies sold here in the store. I felt the ice cream cones could have tasted a bit fresher it seemed as though they were sitting out didn't have beat crunch I would like however I'm still very pleased overall and recommend you stop by this little gelato treat.
