I stopped by because I wanted some pineapple gelato. Unfortunately, they were out and hadn't carried that flavor for a while because it doesn't sell well. Imagine that? I guess the locals get tired of pineapple flavored treats. Lol. Instead, I got a scoop of coconut and a scoop the chocolate mocha flavor; I can't remember the exact name. At any rate, it was good. The chocolate was my fav of the two. I would have liked a stronger coconut flavor in the coconut gelato. It was mild. read more

gelato is good but The girl working the counter has been rude and acts like customers bother her everytime we have been there. the first time I thought maybe I was just having an off day but the second time she was rude again so I made a mental not but just let it go. This is the third time we've been there. She's not just unfriendly but rude and she said I could only have receipt by text which is fine but I never got a text of the receipt so that was it, we will not ever go back because of this employee and it bothered me enough that I felt the need to write this review. I really hope she changes her attitude so that her employer doesn't lose any other business. read more

Avoid. Not good at all. Barely tastes like gelato. Got the macadamia nut and cookies n cream. The macadamia nut tastes like sugar mixed with ice with a drop of vanilla extract. The cookies n cream was a bit better but not by much. Also, be prepared to tip on top of your $8-10 gelato because they ask you how much you want to tip in front of the whole line instead of giving you the option to press a button on the screen. It's a clever tactic--social pressure works! read more

Mediocre, at best. I don't know if there are official standards on what it takes to be called gelato but I can't imagine this would pass muster. Certainly nothing like what I had in Italy. Not very rich or creamy. I would say it is on par with a decent local ice cream shop, nothing more. And the medium size is a paltry portion for $7.50. I get that it is in a swanky shopping center but I want more for $7.50. Compare the medium with a single scoop other places. Maybe the server just wasn't in a generous mood that day. Disappointed. read more

Before coming here I can't say that I had ever had gelato. I visited twice and will probably go again before my family leaves to head home. On both stops I had the 'sandy beach' flavor which is peanut butter with graham cracker crumbs. I got mine on a cone. It was super tasty! The employees were friendly and even if there is a line it goes quickly. The prices are reasonable and they even have some locally made gifts for sale. read more

The line on a Wednesday night was very long and the plaza has a lot of stores you can walk around and take a look at too. I got the Maui mocha and was disappointed because it didn't have any coffee flavor at all and was way too sweet. I also tried the tiramisu which was better but still very sweet. For $5 for a small, it was underwhelming but the other flavors look good--maybe try a sorbet. The cashier was really nice and the service was great. Overall, the plaza has a great ambience so you're coming here for the experience. read more

Great gelato here! I went to the one in Whaler's village, which is a super cute shopping center I recommend everyone go to if you are near it! The gelato was very good. I got the chocolate because I wanted something rich and that was the only rich flavor they had! They only had about 6 flavors, which was disappointing because most of them were very bland and boring flavors that didn't have too much flavor. Overall, the gelato was good, but I think they need to expand their flavors. The gelato shop I went to in Lahaina had probably about 20 flavors or more! read more

This gelato is superb! I've gone two days in a row, and I'm a little unnerved that it's right next door to where I'm staying because that means I'll likely have 14 more gelatos before I leave. The basic gist is that it is really, really delicious. I've tried four flavors so far, and the coffee crunch and "sandy beach" (peanut butter with graham cracker crumbles) are my top two so far. (The others I tried were Maui mocha--coffee and chocolate--and tiramisu. Both good, but wow to the others). I have a feeling the coconut and macadamia nut would be stellar. The cost is actually quite reasonable, especially considering the scoops are generous and we are in HAWAII where everything is doubly expensive (I think it was $5.35 for a small? My dad and I each got a medium and it came out to $13). So far the business has been a one woman show, and she deserves a medal. I highly recommend!! read more

Terrible. Better off just going to Häagen-Dazs, their fridges actually work, and it's not going to melt as fast since everything is indoors. As for their flavors, they're all too sweet and the fruit sorbets taste artificial. In addition, the cups are designed in a way that trick people into thinking that they're getting a lot of gelato, but there's actually a raised bottom that visually makes it seem like the cup is full when it's not. read more

Gelato was strongly on the sweet side, even the regular gelatos. Usually it's just the sorbettos that are sweet, but I was more impressed by the sorbets than the gelato, the mango was our favorite flavor, it actually tasted pretty close to an actual mango, but by far still too sweet. The consistency was off from true gelato, as well, it tasted and felt more like store-bought gelato and not fresh handmade like is advertised. Small place, but crazy busy. Still only has one employee to run the entire place every single time I've been by. Given, they do a good job, but it's still frustrating. It's not that hard to hire a second person. Their single cup is on the expensive side for how little you are getting. It becomes more worthwhile when you buy more, but it's just overwhelmingly sweet. read more

I ordered the strawberry sorbet. It's dairy free. Got the smallest cup size and shared it with my wife. $5.xx or so. Cheap. Quick. Delicious. I had a sample of the mango and blah, mango wasn't good. The strawberry was delicious though. No place to sit here. It's right across from the Lv store though so you can sit on the planters and people watch while enjoying the gelato. I came here during Xmas eve so it wasn't super hot out, but I'm sure if it was really hot, this place would be packed. read more

Good gelato. Not the best or creamiest I've ever had, possibly due to weather conditions in Maui versus California where I'm used to having it. Not sure. The lady who helped us seemed a little out of it, didn't ask if we'd like samples and just stood there when we approached the flavors display. I was so excited when I rounded the corner and saw that Ono Gelato had opened up in the newly renovated Whaler's Village that I practically jumped for joy. It is right next door to where the new Monkeypod Kitchen (old Rusty Harpoon, Cane and Taro, Maui Fish & Pasta depending on when you were last here) will be opening. This was perfect for me since I did not have a car and now didn't even need to take a bus into Lahaina for a scoop. It might be slightly higher in price than Lahaina but it's been awhile since I bought scoops since we usually went for the pints. Due to the smaller space, their flavors are more limited (maybe about 12 flavors) than their Lahaina store so no Mau`i Gold pineapple but a medium scoop of tropical mango and creamy mac nut combo was a good alternative for the best of both worlds. For the convenience of being able to grab a scoop to enjoy in the cabana overlooking the ocean next door, I cannot complain. read more

Samples? Yes please! So happy I tried this today. Found while walking to bask in Robbins, but glad I got gelato instead. I tasted the salted Carmel (a bit too sweet for my taste) and the mint chip. It stole me and I had to get it!! Mint chip was amazing. Creamy, flavorful and delicious. I'd definitely return. Prices aren't cheap though. $5.25 for a small cone. Good quality gelato at a Maui price. Almost $7 for a medium which is equivalent to a single large scoop at most ice cream shops. Having said that, the gelato is creamy and packed with flavor. I got the cookies n cream and grasshopper. Both yummy. Small stand at Whalers Village and no seating. Eat quickly if you're enjoying in the sun as it will melt quickly. I ate mine after 9pm and it stayed creamy until I finished up the cup. read more

I absolutely love gelato and have to have it whenever I get a chance. There's a Hagen Daas here too but why would anyone want that if they can have gelato?! We had the salted caramel which is hands down the best I've had. I thought the best was in Charlotte but nope this is it!! It had crunchy bits of chocolate in it and it's not overly sweet! It's absolutely delicious!! The Maui mocha is superb too. We also bought two packets of macadamia shortbread that are really good. If you spend 15$ they validate your parking ticket! read more

They even have a poster in the shop comparing the ingredients, and let's just say they're not shy about pointing out what's in Dole Whip versus their own product. Their Pineapple Cream is made with simple ingredients, and you can absolutely taste the difference. They offer a variety of island inspired flavors, which made it tough to choose because everything sounded delicious. Unfortunately, we didn't discover this place until our last night in Maui. Otherwise, I have no doubt we would have come back multiple times during our trip. If you're a fan of pineapple ice cream, this is a must-visit. Seating was limited outdoors and inside was full. Wish they'd have more outdoor seating.

After learning all about the process of growing, harvesting, and drying the cocoa beans, we got to partake in a delicious sampling in what can only be described as an adult "treehouse". With 360 panoramic views, and a wonderful breeze, we listened as Gabriel explained the various chocolates we were sampling and I thoroughly enjoyed each and everyone. Once back at the shop, we had the opportunity to purchase chocolate and also try a variety of items from their café menu if we wanted (for additional charge). All in all, the tour was a wonderful and educational experience and definitely opened my eyes to the deliciousness of the Maui Kuia Estate Chocolate.

This is a comparative review of Island Cream Co. and Ono Gelato (Whaler's Village). We ate at both during our stay in Maui and like them both. I've rated them both 4 stars, though the majority of our party gave the nod to Ono Gelato. They might rate Ono Gelato higher. To me, the difference between the two was the difference between gelato and ice cream. The ice cream is a bit heartier and stronger flavored. Gelato is smooth, creamy, and a bit lighter. If you want something refined, you'll probably prefer Ono Gelato. If you want tons of flavors, milkshakes, sundaes, etc., you'll prefer Island Cream. Location wise, Ono Gelato will probably appeal to tourists walking around. They're located on Front Street in Lahaina with an outpost in Whaler's village. Island Cream is in a strip mall located off the main highway. However, if you're driving back from a beach somewhere, Island Cream is easy to patronize because free parking is right there. Bottom line, I'd recommend both without reservation. You'll enjoy it. read more

The gelato was very good and the salted caramel was my favorite. The workers did not know how to scoop the ice cream so when I licked the ice cream cone it fell into my lap. The decor was very nice and I bought a really cute black rock poster. The worker at the check out did ask how much we wanted to tip without showing us the screen so that was very awkward. read more

They offer a variety of island inspired flavors, which made it tough to choose because everything sounded delicious. Unfortunately, we didn't discover this place until our last night in Maui. Otherwise, I have no doubt we would have come back multiple times during our trip. If you're a fan of pineapple ice cream, this is a must-visit. Seating was limited outdoors and inside was full.
