I've been here three times now--once inside and twice through the drive-thru. The first two visits were good overall, although the drive-thru was slow both times. Today was a different story. We went through the drive-thru at 4:50 in the afternoon, which so it was a a slow time of day. There was only one car ahead of us, and I'm guessing the inside of the restaurant was probably slow too. The bigger issue was that my order was still wrong, even after it was repeated back to me correctly twice. I specifically asked for one scoop of rice, one scoop of macaroni salad, and one scoop of vegetables. Instead, I got two scoops of macaroni salad and one scoop of rice, so I didn't get the vegetables I ordered. (Yes, there are always a few vegetables underneath the chicken, but that is not the same thing, and I even clarified that when ordering.) To make matters worse, our drive home is only about five minutes, and when we got home all of the food was room temperature except for the musubi, which was hot. Love to go here for my TERIYAKI chicken and rice. Simple meal. Plate is always filled up, so it's worth the price... About $14.00 I spent on the meal. I like to get extra teriyaki sauces. I eat this meal over the course of two days for dinner. Slow through the drive/thru but atleast you know your food is being cooked, if they gave me my food too fast then I'll be questioning the quality.. Unless the meat was just prepared prior to my arrival. I don't see the point in having a drive-thru, if the food takes a while to be prepared anyways but it's nice to be able to just sit in my car and wait. Ono Hawaiian BBQ on Auburn Blvd is sooo underrated! We don't eat fast food often, but this is one of the few spots that always makes the rotation. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and such a good value for what you get. I love that the meat is cooked fresh every time and they let you choose veggies or salad as sides. My usual order is the plate lunch with veggies, rice, and mac salad which is honestly enough for two people or two meals. Tons of options too. My go tos are the BBQ chicken or the Island Fire chicken. Just a heads up: the Island Fire chicken takes a little longer to cook, so they'll sometimes have you park. Totally worth it. I also really enjoy the Aloha Plate, which comes with one or two meats, rice, and salad. Their orange salad dressing is so good, definitely ask for an extra. Employees are always quick and efficient, no issues ever. The parking lot isn't great and the surrounding area can feel a little busy, but once you figure out the right turn in, it's fine. I also love that this location has a drive thru and stays open late. Just be aware of your surroundings because there's usually a lot going on in this area. Although I grew up in Honolulu, I haven't had Hawaiian food for years. The food became too salty to me. I tried the white fish at Ono Hawaiian and I was surprised. We pulled into the parking lot fully planning on grabbing Chipotle for dinner. I didn't realize this restaurant was here and the Damian's I decided to grab this instead. While I'm so glad we did, this is not as good as Big Island BBQ in Folsom. Customer service was lacking. Not only for me but they easy I saw them speak to other customers was not very impressive. As a family we ordered multiple combo plates that included the beef, grilled chicken, and katsu chicken. You can't get Hawaiian bbq without musubis so you know we grabbed a few orders. Katsu was crispy, beef was sweet and flavorful. Good amount of cabbage which I personally LOVE. The Mac salad was okay initially but did grow on me as I finished my dinner. Grilled chicken was a little disappointing, I think it's flattop grilled not bbq grilled. Musubi were "mid" per my two teenagers. I'd go back but it's not my fav for Hawaiian food. read more

What is the think I was surprised was that they gave their version of macaroni salad.. They used elbow noodles, mayonnaise, and other things which made it more on the thick side, then thin side . It was fairly good though very much on the bland side. There was no sweetness to it nor was there any mustard, nor onions in it... I got teriyaki, chicken, barbecue chicken, barbecued beef.. The chicken was pretty much it appeared to be dark meat. It was cut very thin as you can see in the photograph... it appeared to not be chicken breast, because it was not very dry whatsoever thank goodness... First time here with a friend and never heard of this place, took away by chipotle plaza. I ordered the chicken Katsu mini meal and it was plenty of food, chicken nice and crispy two scoops of rice and some Mac a Roni salad which was really good too. A side of teriyaki sauce and good company what else can you ask for. My friend ordered the mix of pork beef and chicken combo meal. Was out pretty quick. Only thing is they're hours are till 10 PM we came in around 930 and they didn't look too happy to see us. We couldn't eat inside but there were chairs and tables outside so that was nice. My 500th Yelp review! And what better way to say Aloha than to write this review for "Ono Hawaiian BBQ". I've noticed a lot more of these locations opening up as they are saturated in the Los Angeles metropolitan area as well as the San Francisco Bay Area. They also have several restaurants in the Central Valley part of California as well as the Phoenix, AZ area. Their main competition is "L&L Hawaiian BBQ" which I have eaten at several times. However, this is my first time ever dining at Ono Hawaiian BBQ. Located directly on the corner of Auburn Blvd/Madison Ave in the Foothill Farms part of Sacramento, this restaurant opened its doors on 2/1/2020. They are conveniently tucked in between an AT&T store and a Chipotle so parking may be a bit tricky especially if you arrive during peak hours. The inside of this place has a fresh, modern look with yellow chairs and a aquamarine colored menu board. They also conveniently have a drive-thru for those who don't wish to get out of their vehicles. As I am already familiar with Hawaiian food, I went all out and tried their "Hawaiian BBQ Entree" (for $11.79). This includes BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, Kalbi Short Ribs, rice, and macaroni salad. My lady went with their "Teriyaki Chicken Entree" (for $9.59). Since we decided on dining in, we picked out two of their complimentary sauces, "Katsu" & "Teriyaki". Since this place is new and still working out their kinks, our food takes awhile to arrive. The customer itself was just average at best as my cashier looked a bit scatterbrain trying to figure out how much change to give me back for a $20. I mean, do people not use cash anymore? Also, you must ask for napkins as they are not available in the condiment area. Hopefully they will get better as time goes on but that's just me being critical of a new business. Once our entrees did arrive, everything was presented nicely in a large environmentally-friendly container. They were generous on the meat as this was more than enough food to fill me up. As far as the flavor, it was above average and seasoned well. Definitely fresh and good quality ingredients. All in all, "Ono Hawaiian BBQ" is good and their business shows no signs of slowing down. If I were to pick between them and "L&L Hawaiian BBQ", I would have to give the upper advantage to L&L since they have more reasonable prices for very similar flavors. So excited for a new lunch option in the area!! My coworkers and I were so hyped to hear that Ono's was opening, that we stopped in twice last week. Their phone is up and running so a quick 5 minute phone call and we were on our way. I had their bbq mix plate and it was pretty similar to L&L's. We did notice that the consistency was off. The first day, our short ribs were dinosaur huge and the second time they were fairly small. My coworker was also given one scoop of rice and one Mac salad, compared to my two scoops of rice and one Mac salad. The marinate on the meat was good, but I think it could've used more. Meat was still a little dry. They do have their sauces available near the soda fountain though so that's a huge plus!! I wasn't a huge fan of their Mac salad, just because I could taste the enormous amount of mayo mixed in. The photo on yelp make the restaurant look pretty spacious, but it's the opposite. I wouldn't recommend for big parties, just lunch dates of 2. lol, the workers were friendly and they had plenty of hands on deck. I love that this new location has a drive-thru! So convenient during these Covid-19 times. They are in a small strip mall with a small parking lot. Inside is clean and same cute colors/furniture/decor as any other Ono in town, but also has a small dining area. Their is a condiment bar with their signature sauces. The menu is what you'd expect at a Hawaiian BBQ place: katsu chicken, beef, shrimp, Spam musubi, mac salad, and lots of rice with each entree. Prices are reasonable for the portion, especially when they run promo deals (PRO TIP: Get on their email list for more coupons and specials). Service is a little hit or miss. Sometimes my food is served hot and fresh, sometimes not. Sometimes I'm greeted with an enthusiastic "Aloha!" and other times I'm waiting at the counter to even be acknowledged. Any Hawaiian-themed business or restaurant should always invoke the warm & friendly spirit of aloha from its employees.
