Chicken mini meal Chicken Katsu Mini Meal and Island White Fish plate

It's been awhile since I've come here but the bf wanted to come. It was just okay. Service took some time to get our order. Food was okay. Could use some seasoning. By bf enjoyed the teriyaki sauce over the katsu sauce. I preferred the tartar sauce especially with the fish. The veggies were bland. The Mac salad I liked as it wasn't too much mayonnaise. Wished there were more carrots. Most of the tables were occupied when we went. Some of the wall paper was peeling. Definitely needs an updating.

The quality of this place has significantly went down. They fill the box mostly with cabbages and a few pieces of katsu to make the box full. This was really disappointing. The only thing good about this place is their teriyaki sauce.

They offered an $8 special for the Seafood Aloha Plate for the entire month of April. Choice between the Crispy Shrimp, Lava Shrimp, or Island White Fish. My wife and I always enjoy the Island White Fish: 3 pieces of Island White Fish, 3 Scoops Rice with 1 Side Fresh Mix Salad!

For a chain, usually you know the food will be consistent. The price will be reasonable. People will typically not eat at the location. And it's really just more cookie cutter. But sometimes, somethings stand out at a particular chain that makes just a bit better than other "ordinary" chains. Ono is consistent. There are no surprises. But at this particular location? Angel is pretty awesome. Super nice and provides great service. He has been attentive and pleasant. Made my visit to Ono pretty great.

Good for a fast meal. Got the island fish. Prices aren't bad. Fish wasn't salty and was pretty soft. Not super fresh but it works. Rice was a bit harder than it should be.The beef is better for sure. But not terrible for a chain. And it does remind me of my hometown at least. Service is ok. Inside was pretty clean. Parking lot in front!

Honestly extremely disappointed with how bad the customer service and portions have become here. Ordered a combo plate and the NPC taking the order insisted that Mac salad was not included (completely wrong, have gotten Mac ONLY at times with same order) So we ended up having to order 2 sides of Mac salad... and they gave us spam musubi?? The portions of meat are ridiculously small for $17, attaching a photo of what we got Yeah, you guys need to get your shi together. Never coming back again except to get my refund for the Mac salad, y'all deserve to be closed down permanently

Unremarkable, but ok for a quick fix. Ordered the island spice grilled fish during their random $7 plate specials. Originally it would be $17 for the meal. Definitely not worth it at $17. Fish was barely seasoned, and quite mushy. It wasn't flaky like I'd expect fresh fish texture to be. Ordered a side of Mac salad that was also unremarkable. The mayo had an off taste and was quite watery, as if it was old. L&L still reigns supreme when it comes to Hawaiian bbq chains. Ono just can't hold a candle to their competition.

Shout-out to: Angel, who helped me during the YELP x Ono Hawaiian BBQ event Carlos who gave me info on how to place an Ono Family Meal Alyssa (I think this her name, she worked in the btwn 12pm to 1pm on Sunday, Dec 17th) who gave me extra utensils and followed up diligently about my Ono Family Meal - really appreciated they were able to accommodate 2 meats vs 3 meats and have my order ready since I was an hour early! My entire party loved all the food and left with happy tummies, no leftovers here!

Spam Masubi, Chicken Katsu, & Teriyaki Chicken
    Steven C.

Food: I went with delivery since I was unable to leave work. ordered the Chicken mix plate with Chicken Katsu & Teriyaki Chicken. I also ordered Spam Masubi to try. I personally wasn't impressed. The Chicken Katsu was rather dry, the Teriyaki Chicken was great, and the Spam Masubi was lackluster. It missed the mark on flavorful. The side veggies offered a heap of cabbage with 2 small broccoli. The macaroni salad tasted like biting into an onion. If this is your thing, then this is definitely for you, but it all missed the mark for my tastebuds.

lol- maybe I should've thought this through- before I said "ToGo!" Hee.

I'm so glad I looked up a chicken place that was tropical nearby me and I was lucky to have come across this little gym!! I had no idea they had fresh young coconut and I bought one as takeout before I realized I would literally have to carry it in a bag as I drive! Lol The young coconut was delicious and fresh, and I was able to scrape out all the coconut meat at my house! I got the chicken combo for my friend and she loved every bite of it and she's a picky foodie let me tell you!! She ate it over two days and she was really surprised that the flavor stayed as she reheated it on the stove top the second day! My barbecue chicken, luckily had no monosodium glutamate in it, which I'm highly allergic to! Being a foodie this sucks, and I can never eat Asian, soy sauce, or different Latin dishes because of this! I'm so happy I found this little gem of a place and my server was incredibly helpful, and I love the open atmosphere and relaxing Hawaiian music. They played in the background!! I've been back twice since this last visit, and I will be back again! Oh yeah, and my son, who is super picky, loved their spam musubi which is a side!!

    BBQ & Katsu Mix

After relocating to DTSJ, I am so glad there is a Ono Hawaiian BBQ nearby! I definitely prefer Ono's over L&L's because of the quality and flavor. I got the bbq katsu mix and a side of crispy shrimps. The bbq katsu mix is bbq chicken, bbq beef, and chicken katsu. Also, I was able to customize the meal; I did 1 scoop rice and a double scoop of Mac salad. Plus they did give a good amount of steamed cabbage. I was surprised that the side of crispy shrimps were good; it was lightly battered plus these shrimps were pretty large in size. Perfect to do a grab and go and meal is large enough to split into two meals (at least for me). Definitely will be visiting this location as it's fairly close to home and super convenient.

After today's visit, though... I finally understand why the second location closed. Ordered: Shackie's Sauce (Hot) Shrimp & Mussels Combo Snow Crab Clusters Garlic Noodles Garlic Fries The seafood boil was nowhere near the quality it used to be. The corn tasted old, the shrimp and snow crab didn't taste fresh, and the snow crab clusters had barely any meat. By the time I cracked everything open, it felt like there was more shell than seafood. The mussel shells even had barnacles on them, which I've never seen here before. It made the seafood feel like it hadn't been cleaned as well as it should have. The garlic fries were crispy, but that's it. It was weird--I could see the garlic and was literally eating it, yet there was no garlic flavor. The garlic noodles used to be one of my favorite items because they were bold and packed with garlic. Now they've definitely toned the flavor down, and they're just not the same anymore. It's honestly disappointing because this place used to be one of my favorite seafood spots. The food quality has clearly declined while the prices have continued to go up. I hope they can get back to what made this place so good, but based on today's experience, I can't recommend it anymore.

It is in the general area with Cere Tea and Koi Palace. We arrived around 6PM and were seated immediately. We came for the seafood don and both got the UME with an addition of the ochazuke set. For $26 + 4.5 for the set, I think it's really worth the price and you get a good amount of fresh fish. Each bite felt like I was transported to Japan and eating a Kaisendon. I didn't know that you could call for a reservation, or get on their waitlist with Yelp. I was going to do my order to go, when I was asked if I wouldn't mind sitting at the bar. Not at all. I was seated right away, and I was helped by Allison, who was also tending bar. She was a very nice lady, and she took very good care of me. The restaurant has. A nautical theme to it. I decided to go with the Cajun chowder, and the softshell crab po' boy. . My food comes quickly, and the order was huge! It was a very good, rich chowder, with just a tiny bit of a "zip" from the Cajun spices. They definitely gave it a good flavor. There were lots of goodies inside. The one thing about the chowder, was they didn't take out the bay leaves, and I did get a couple.. I just put them off to the side. I'm not going to take off a star, because the chowder was so good. Hey, It happens.... The po' boy was huge! The softshell crab was not over breaded. I could taste the crab with no problem, and it was a little bit sweet, a little bit savory, with that wonderful "crabby" flavor. The roll was a soft roll, , but it still held up to the sandwich extremely well The lettuce, and tomato were crisp and fresh . The Cajun fries, had a little bit of a zip to them, but not too much. they came with ketchup, and their house Cajun sauce. I didn't even touch the ketchup. The sandwich already had some Cajun sauce on it, I put a little bit more. The rest, I used to dip the fries. I only made it halfway through the sandwich, and the fries. The rest came back to my room with me for another great meal. I also got another little "tub" of that sauce to take with me. The entire time, Alison was so personable, , we chatted a little bit about this and that... She is definitely an asset to that restaurant. (Tell her boss to give her a raise...:). The price was extremely reasonable for such a wonderful meal, and they also have a military/veterans discount this was such a great meal, I would gladly come back here again. Thank you so very much

The seafood was well-seasoned with a nice spicy kick, and our noodles were very garlicky (in a good way). The chicken tenders were also flavorful, but a bit dry (I still like it btw). Unfortunately, this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. When we first arrived, the atmosphere was nice and we were excited to finally try the food. We ordered the gumbo, which was actually delicious, along with snow crab legs, Dungeness crab legs, shrimp and sides. The food itself had some good flavor, but the experience quickly went downhill. The seafood sauce was extremely runny and kept sliding everywhere. They didn't provide us with a tray, and when we asked for one, we were told they were out. We were also told they were out of king crab legs and dessert. On top of that, we were constantly dealing with flies landing around us and on our food. We eventually had to switch tables because it became so frustrating. What concerned me the most was the water pitchers being used to refill customers' glasses. We noticed that the pitchers were sitting out in an open area near the front of the restaurant. Later that day, both my boyfriend and I started feeling extremely sick and began throwing up. I obviously cannot say for certain what caused us to become sick, but given everything we experienced at the restaurant, it was very concerning and left us questioning the cleanliness and food-safety practices. We traveled out of state specifically to try this restaurant because of how highly it is talked about online, so this was incredibly disappointing. I've genuinely never had an experience this bad at a restaurant. The gumbo was good, and I really wanted to love this place, but the cleanliness concerns, flies, unavailable items, runny sauce, and the fact that both of us became sick afterward completely overshadowed the positives. I hope management takes this seriously and looks into their food handling, water service, and overall cleanliness because customers deserve to feel confident that the food and drinks they are being served are safe.
