Seafood combo platter - very fresh and large portion
    Vivian H.

I don't know why this place has an average 3.5 star rating but I like this place and give it a solid 4 stars! I enjoy having Hawaiian food probably at least once a month and this week, since I had some coupons, I decided to come here. I don't come here too often and this might be my 2nd or 3rd time here but it's always been a good experience. I ordered a seafood platter, which comes with BBQ chicken, whiting fish, shrimp, 2 scoops of rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and cooked veggies. The platter is humongous and I has portions enough for 2 meals. Everything was delicious, so no complaints there. I guess my one wish would be they had grilled seafood vs fried seafood. But, overall, everything, was well made. Rice was sticky and moist, veggies were great with a little bit of salt and pepper and macaroni salad is solid! Overall, a quick fast casual meal option that makes very fresh and good food. I can't justify coming here too much as the fried foods are only a treat every once in awhile for me, but I'll definitely be back again!

There were lots of cars in the parking lot, but the inside of the store wasn't too busy. We ordered quickly and waited for our food. We got a side of battered shrimp along with a pork kahlua plate and a chicken katsu with flaming chicken plate. The battered shrimp was crunchy and an orange sauce that came on the side tasted gingery. The shrimp came on a bed of cabbage that was shredded. I had the chicken katsu and flaming chicken. They came with a bed of rice under the meat. It also came with a bed of shredded cabbage that had some of the ginger orange sauce on it with edamame and black sesame seeds. The chicken katsu was crunchy and the chicken was moist. The chicken looked a little pink. The flaming chicken had a spicy red sauce on it that tasted like it had some ketchup in it. It was moist but had some fat or gristle on it. The kahlua pork was moist and smoky. It was pretty lean. It came with a side of macaroni and rice. I liked the macaroni salad a lot since the macaroni noodles were al dente. The teriyaki sauce tasted as you would expect. The katsu sauce was a little sweet. You can pump your own sauces from the dispenser near the condiment area near the soda machine. There was a lot of seating inside and no music playing. Not too many people were there so it was relatively quiet. In summary, the kahlua pork and flaming chicken was flavorful. The rice and macaroni noodles were good. The cabbage tasted fresh with a nice crunch to it.

Coworker did a lunch run for us and it was great! I got the mini chicken breast plate. It was huge for being mini. The chicken was grilled to perfection and teriyaki sauce came on the side. They placed it on cooked cabbage, which I loved. Will be back for more lunches.

Interior. So cute! I love the yellow stools.

Q: Why did the skeleton go to the barbecue? A: To get another rib! Established in 2002, it's Ono Hawaiian BBQ! Not being a stranger here in Arizona but having *finally* opened up in the old Arby's location in Tempe, Ono's has been the source of my crew's recent anxiety. We've been watching this location get slowly renovated and when they finally opened, we were ecstatic. I ordered a seafood mix for my celebratory post-booster shot meal and it was enjoyable. I normally order a bbq mix or katsu but I was hankering for some fish. In my excitement, I forgot to ask for no rice and all mac salad. Since this first inaugural meal, I have been to Ono's a couple more times and have fixed this error --- no rice, all mac salad! Yum! It's great here at Ono! The location is spacious and clean, the staff is friendly, and the food always delivers. Two thumbs up for Ono!

Great delicious Hawaiian bbq. Fast service. Restaurant is clean and spacious. Every now and then I crave for Hawaiian bbq chicken and I will come here for it.

Q: Why is playing craps better in Hawaii? A: Because it's a tropical pair of dice. I've always been a fan of Ono Hawaiian BBQ so I was excited to see that they were opening a new location here in the east valley. The BBQ here is always solid and the portions are fair. Whether you're getting katsu or a BBQ mix, you won't be disappointed. My wife likes to get her plates with no rice and all mac salad which they gladly accommodate. If only they had loco mocos here, they would be perfect. Ono's is a great place. Stop by and get a taste of aloha in the desert.

This place is great. It reminds me of back when I lived in Hawaii and was hungry. Nothing hit the spot like a katsu chicken with a big Mac salad. All that is missing is the smell of the ocean. Arizona is just 5k miles away, so I will have to do without the tropical breeze. But this food is ono- line, like Brok the Mouth. Crispy, light, fresh. Real katsu chicken is like this, and it has it mastered. Mac salad is pretty good lite tuna and heavy mayo! This is how it's done. And they get Hawaiian Sun too. Oh man, great, now I'm homesick. I just need one pack of Li Hing Mui, and a collection of White Rabbits. Oh, and a loco Moco! Who wants to fly me to Hawaii? Message me if you like to donate.

#6 Kalbi Short Ribs, note salad was a sub, should have gone with a double Mac

Just opened today in a converted Arby's on the NW corner of Ray and Rural is Ono. Stopped in to score a plate lunch, which they call an Aloha plate. It is always tough on opening day as they get the kinks worked out but it was busy. One nice thing about their options is beyond the mainstream teriyaki chicken and BBQ beef they offer a series of option including the island fire chicken which was very tasty and they give the option of picking 1 or 2 (80 c more). They do charge 25c more if you want the Mac salad which of course is the traditional choice. I will have to come back another time to try the Kalua pork. Being in the neighborhood it is quite convenient given they have a drive through and an online app to order ahead of time. Part 2: I went back today as when I was scanning the paper menu, I saw they had a Kalbi Plate Lunch (13.99) , it is called #6. Wow, the 3 kalbi pieces were quite generous, this time I swapped out 1 rice for the fresh salad (25c more), it was fine but in hindsight I should have doubled down on the Mac salad, definitely not as healthy, but quite tasty. As others have mentioned, it is quite clean and open. I was in around noon and it was not too busy, they do have a separate checkout for online orders which is nice

This past Sunday, Mother's Day 2026, I stopped in around 3:45 to pick up dinner with chicken teriyaki, beef bugolgi, tempura shrimp, white rice, and green salad. It was the only meal of the day that we each ate from the same establishment. After I ordered, I heard the guy cooking complain to the cashier girls up front that it would be awhile, but they didn't repeat the concerns to me, so I didn't pay it any mind. Overnight, Sunday night/ Monday morning, my wife and I both became violently ill. I think maybe that chicken that was gonna take too long to cook, wasn't cooked all the way. It doesn't matter how many times I've eaten here in the past without incident. That was an absolutely terrible experience, and I won't risk it happening again, just because the cook wants to get out of work early. I will never eat here again.

Wife order the coconut shrimp plate along with their mac salad and I had the bulkogi plate with mac salad. I also ordered a side of fried won ton. I think overall the quality of the food isn't what it used to be although I will say was good today. My bulgogi had some tough, grisly pieces of beef, which is to be expected due to the cut but I've also had this dish elsewhere and found it to be really tender and juicy...not so much today. The fried won ton or ok but again, I remember them being filled with more filling and thought these were a tad over fried. The coconut shrimp was good and it came with some teriyaki chicken as well. Overall a good meal and we will come again!

High and low tables and self serve drinks. There was also a sauce table. My husband ordered the BBQ Beef plate with double Mac salad. Not sure what the cashier heard but when we checked the plate, it had sautéed cabbage instead of extra mac. Brought it to the cashiers attention and she apologized and said that was her fault. She provided another scoop. My husband said it wasn't bad and he knows his teriyaki. He did say that the extra teriyaki sauce I got helped as it was slightly dry. They also gave a lot of the bbq meat. He ran out of rice so I gave him some of mine . I ordered an Aloha Plate Combo which is a 2 choice plate from a set list and toss salad instead of mac. I got the Shrimp & Island Fire Chicken. The shrimp was okay, panko fried. The island fire chicken was a sautéed chicken with onions in a spicy sauce. It was an okay plate, nothing that really wowed. There was so much sauce on the chicken, it was hard to tell how much chicken there actually was. I also ordered 2 spam musubi for the plane as we had an early flight the next day. The rice was dry so the musubi kind of fell apart. It was recommended to eat wirh the Katsu sauce so I had a small cup in the container. It was a lot better with the sauce. Overall, if we ever do go again, I would pick something else for myself however it is a limited menu. It would be difficult for them to compete with Panda Express 3 doors down.

Food was ready in 15 minutes. We got the lobster roll which is Connecticut style-my preference-with lots of butter! They had a fish and chips special so we got that too. And a pb&j cookie for my birthday! My husband very recently broke his leg so picking up Chulas with some great lobster was a nice treat! It's not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. Being the desert, the quality of Seafood is important, since we are nowhere near seawater and the reputable Chula Seafood is here to serve us, desert dwellers, well. TUNA MELT- it's refreshing to have a tuna sandwich that is not canned tuna. There is a chimichiri sauce that you can get to drizzle on it that really gives a depth of flavor. The bread was a nice sourdough that was not just a cheap white bread and did not get soggy. However, with my sandwich, the bread was burnt so that bitterness ruined the flavor of the delicate fish. My pictures shows a few burnt spots, but on the bottom side was way more burnt and it was like they put the most burnt side on the bottom to hide it and hope I didn't notice. I did not appreciate this. CLAM CHOWDER- creamy and more on the fluid consistency, being made with fresh clams makes the difference. Not the best chowder i've had, but was pretty decent. The fish variety can vary with seasons, but it is nice to get different choices throughout the year. There are limited offerings here compared to the bigger location across town, as far as menu and fish selection. But for a small store it is a good place to get some quality seafood to take home or sit and eat. Check out the great happy hour deals

SENTRY - WATCHING RESTAURANTS…read more Hawaiian Bros 4445 E Thomas Road Phoenix 85018 It was lunch time and companion and I were passing by and decided to stop. This is a relatively new store with a new concept. I enjoy good Hawaiian food if it is authentic as served in the islands. The most common is called the plate lunch. In Hawaii it consists of your protein, and usually 2 scoops of potato salad and a scoop of macaroni salad. Not exactly the right meal for a carb conscious person, but definitely a tasty meal. On entering this store we immediately noticed that there was no place to order from. Instead, there were large computer screens with items you could select from. While I am not from the modern generation that is fully computer literate, I had no problem figuring it out and ordering. I ordered the Kilauea Chicken Classic and a bottle of water. Companion ordered the Molokai Chicken Classic and a Coke Zero. Everything in the place is made for easy cleaning and non destructivity. The chairs are made of metal and are one size fits all. Unfortunately, they are extremely uncomfortable to sit in and if your rear appendage is slightly on the larger side it will not fit in any way and you will be left sitting on the edge of the chair. In due course our food arrived in plastic boxes. Not the end of the world, but it would have been nice if they had been marked so we knew which was which. Because the flavors were so similar it took a bit of time to figure out the foods. The Kilauea Chicken was O.K. but nothing to write home about. It came on a bed of rice along with a ball of rice and some macaroni salad that was great. Creamy and made like that served in the islands. The Molokai Chicken bordered on inedible. It was so overcooked that I had to stop and buy toothpicks on my way to remove the remnants from my teeth. Once again, it was served over rice with a ball of rice and the same, excellent macaroni salad. The macaroni salad was the best part of the meal! Serving protein over rice and then adding another ball of rice is ridiculous. 2 Stars

In closing do NOT go here for the food. Unless it's for the rice and pineapple lemonade.
