First time at Ono Korean BBQ. I was surprised the restaurant was empty except for one couple. We didn't have to wait long for our food. I ordered the chicken katsu and meat jun. There didn't seem to be a variety of sides selections as other Korean restaurants. I chose the long rice noodles, seaweed, potatoes and broccoli. The sides were on the raw side. The noodles were chewy, the seaweed was very tart, the potatoes almost had no taste and the broccoli were green and crunchy and not enough taste as well. The chicken katsu had a very thin sliver of chicken but very crunchy. The meat Jun was good. I tried some barbecue chicken & teriyaki beef. Sadly they were on the dry side with no coating of sauce. The kalbi was good. Orders came with a piece mandoo which was okay and a piece of fish cake. The latter had so much flour I couldn't taste any fish. I wish I could give zero stars. I came here for lunch and got the mandoo plate and sides with rice. I had lunch and while I was eating I noticed the mandoo seemed pretty pink inside so I stopped eating immediately. Not very long after I started feeling sick and ended up with really bad food poisoning. On top of the food poisoning, the food was not very good. The mandoo was mushy and had no taste and the sides didn't have much taste either, they seemed like they had been sitting out for a while. I'll never return here again unless I want to end up with food poisoning. read more

Ono Dillingham Korean barbecue is basically your typical Korean restaurant joint, for lunch and dinner options. When I came here for lunch once in December 2017, I thought that this place was cheaper than Yummy's and it was nice to patronize this one instead of the other ones that Yummy's has. Not that they're bad, but the verdict is that it is a little cheaper here, based on what I have experienced. I arrived here on a casual Thursday during the last Thursday of 2017, specifically December 28. It was a typical lunch time affair, since a co-worker wanted lunch at the zippy's next door and I decided to come to this place to check things out. I was craving some fish jun, so I was like, why the hell not? I would say that Ono Dillingham Korean barbecue restaurant can be a hidden gem, just because many locals knows about this place and it's a great place to hang out for lunch or dinner. This restaurant is big enough to handle a handful of customers at any one time, boasting at most 5-7 tables in the restaurant. The restaurant itself was good and typically clean. There was a few people already dining in the restaurant, but I opted to take out my fish jun and eat it back at the office. The set up seems like a typical Hawaii fast food joint that promises you a fantastic product at affordable prices. It delivered that for me, since it was a little bit cheaper than Yummy's, as mentioned before. I hadn't realized that Korean barbecue prices had risen to averaging $10 for a regular plate. I remember 15 years ago, it was pushing $7.50. Wow, I guess times does change with people's taste buds. There's of choices here from local favorites to trying something new - like bi bim bap, which is pretty epic. Need to get that the next time I'm here. Ono Dillingham Korean barbecue restaurant is located at the Kapalama shopping plaza, where Bob's Barbecue and Zippy's are nearby in Kalihi on Dillingham Blvd. They accept major credit cards, so that's always a good thing, for anyone who lives off the plastic, and cash as well. Parking is kind of plentiful, but just be warned that it can get full during peak meal times. Best bet is to come early to secure a good parking spot before the lunch or dinner rush commences. The service here is typical of any fast food experiences here in Honolulu. Elsewhere in fact. They usually are nice and the turn around time is about 5-7 minutes from ordering to pick up. The prices are good and cheaper than other places, but not by much. You get what you pay for and this place is comparable to Yummy's branded Korean barbecue. While this place is a new favorite place of mine during the work week, $10 for lunch can be pricey, so maybe once a month I will come here and pick up lunch (when I am not traveling). Good deal. I like that proposition. I would recommend this Korean barbecue place, just because it's comparable to the others and the food is spot on. The cashier was not approacheable, poor customer service. Its very hard to approach her. She didnt even want to look at the customer. She used hand gesture instead of talking to customer. Came here for a quick take out on a Friday night. Parking is horrible. This place is located in the same vicinity as Zippy's at the Kapalama Shopping Center, right across the DMV in Kalihi. There are so many other businesses here and not very many parking stalls. The stalls are also narrow and tight. For dinner I ordered 2 regular plates: 1 Kalbi and 1 meat jun. If you request for no rice, you get an extra choice of sides. They have a wide variety of sides, but the flavor is alright. There's nothing really to rave about. Portion sizes of the plates were decent. It could be shared between two people. The Kalbi was tasty and soft. The meat jun, was flavorless. You definitely would need the sauce to give it some flavor. I've read other reviews that the women who works the front have been rude. But the two ladies who had helped me were nice. If I need a quick Korean take out, I'd rather go to Yummys. But Young's Kalbee is hands down my favorite spot. read more

My husband and I come this place about once a week here to pick up dinner on the way home when we get off late. Our favorites are Ono special combination and seafood plates. We like Sam's deli in Nuuanu, too, but Sam's deli food tend to be very salty. Ono's barbecue meats are always well marinated, flavorful and not to salty, and their side dishes "banchans" are pretty good. Love their choysam and cabbage. Their soups are so so. May be I would have given additional star if their soups are equally good. The value is phenomenal. You will not be disappointed. read more

It's not your authentic stuff but they have the local faves (Kalbi, bulgogi, bbq chicken, spicy pork, meat jun, etc.). I favor the meat jun & spicy pots. Their mandoo and bi bim kook so are some of my other faves too. I personally love kim chee and can eat that with rice alone and their kim chee is bomb. Sometimes I order sides of that to eat with my lunches throughout the week. The prices are normal for Korean lunch plate type places (which means a regular is about $12ish. Decided to try this place and I was very satisfied. I like that you can choose your own sides. I got shoyu potato's, bean sprouts, Kim chee, and jap chae. All were good. For my entree I got the bbq chicken and they gave me three bone on thighs. The marinade was good and the pieces were big. Ive past this place a million times and never ate here bc it was always empty. However, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in and check it out. I got the Meat Jun plate with kim chee cucumbers, braised potato, mac salad, and the korean cake thing. My bf got the teri beef and chicken plate. Then we got a side order of mon doo. The food came out piping hot! And it was very tasty! Id say better than yummys and the plates were packed! The sauce for the meat jun was a bit sweet but flavorful. The mandoo was juicy, hot, crispy goodness. The meat jun was similar to don yangs. And the fixings were good as well, but the braised potatos were - meh. Other than that. Awesome job! I gave 4 stars bc the flavors, portions, freshness and cleanliness of the place. I didnt give a 5 star rating bc the fixings were average. But the main course was on point. The folks here were very nice and I appreciate their kind demeanor. The veggies are really tasty and look visually appealing. I ordered chicken katsu -- would suggest to not order this particular dish. As my photo shows, the chicken is really thin and easily overlooked. I felt like I was eating deep fried chicken jerky. I love their portions! Really worth for its price! Unlike other competitors, they have wider selections of side orders. You can also do two different combinations of meat which I love to do than sticking to the standard choices. Plus by doing so, you get something a little extra like fishcake and mandoo! If I was craving some Korean BBQ, this place would be the last on my list. Although the food and portions were pretty decent, I wouldn't go here again. I only came here twice because the location was convenient. It's located right next to HCC, inside Dillingham Plaza. First of all, I got their beef and chicken mixed plate to share with my sister, and the chicken was RAW. I knew it was raw because while cutting into the chicken, it had some pinkish-red in between the pieces. I ended up throwing the whole plate away since I lost my appetite.. I wasn't even halfway done :'( I warned my friend about this place when we were in the area, but he wanted to try it out anyways. We got the beef and chicken mixed plate, but asked to make both of it spicy. The Korean lady who took our order was nice and accommodating. The beef and chicken both came out spicy, and the chicken was fully cooked this time. I'll eat leftovers if I had to, but I wouldn't for Ono Korean BBQ. It felt like food-poisoning waiting to happen. Maybe that's just me and my thinking from previous experience. The 4 choices of vegetables (green string beans, corn, potato salad, and shoyu potato) were nothing to brag about. I like Yummy's vegetables better. The green string beans didn't taste as fresh, and wasn't as crunchy like I would have hoped for. They did give out more shoyu potatoes than other places.. Read some comments about this place having bugs/flies in their side dishes. Yes it's true, but it's not something they could control. This place is one of the cleanest food joint in town. Unfortunately the entire center is infested with those bugs but they are not sure where it's coming from. I eat here a lot and from my knowledge this has been an ongoing problem at this center for many of the shops. No matter how clean they are, these bugs get into each shop through the ceilings. It's sad that this great restaurant is being given bad reviews for something they cannot control and have been trying very hard to keep out of their good by putting clear wraps. 1/15/16 This two star review is strictly for the customer service I received today. It was from the female cashier working at approximately 1:00 PM. We decided to eat in so we sat on one of the open tables. Not even 5 minutes of us sitting down, she hollers at us from the cash register "do you mind sitting over there (the booth against the wall)? I need to clean before I leave today." We were like wait, whett? These tables had to be empty for quite some time before we came in, you clearly had time to clean it then. But we did anyway. To no surprise, she doesn't immediately clean the area she told us to move from. Instead, she dials someone on her phone and from the sound of it, it was obviously a personal call. When I walked up to get my food, I see they had spilled my soup all over the tray they served it on. She didn't offer a new tray or to clean up the spill. Nothing. We knew this choice to dine in was an instant regret once she told us to move out of her way. Next time, we'll just stick to wingstop, lol. read more

This new restaurant rocks! The food is just as their name says, "Ono". Our family always loves trying new places and Korean food has a special place in our hearts. For years now we've been tired of paying outrageous prices at any of the "Yummy" franchises with their in consistent mediocre food and have been wishing their was something better in Kalihi. Ono Korean BBQ is the answer to our prayers. This will be our "go to" place now whenever we need a quick Korean fix and don't want to fight our way into town to our other favorite spot. Quick rundown: -Prices are reasonable for the amount they give. 4 reg plates and 1 mini came out to roughly $55. Fed 6 of us with a lot still left over. -Plates we tried were: spicy pork plate, kalbi plate, meat jun plate, chicken katsu plate, and the Ono BBQ combo plate. All were delicious and everything was our favorite. -Banchan is pretty authentic. Just ask my Korean granny! -Friendly staff. Again, this will be our new spot. A must try!!! read more

UPDATE Ono Korean BBQ is literally what they are. I've been here a couple times and left a happy camper. If I were to choose...Ono Korean BBQ is better than Yummys, my personal preference. The mini is a perfect size & my husband and I feels like it's worth it. My first time here I had the mundoo only soup which was delicious.Here you can order ban chan only if you want to.I order the mini kal bi plate because the regular is more then I can eat at once.The food arrives quickly and everything on the menu is tasty.I ordered a medium sized catered plate of fried mundoo for the next day for a tailgate party and it was enough for everyone and came with dipping sauce and was reasonably priced.My favorite place for good Korean food. read more
