We enjoyed this soft serve shop. They had Ube, Coconut, and an Apple Pie special for July 4th. The toasted marshmallow on the cone is delicious. And we both agreed Coconut was the best flavor. We also took pints Pandan, and Yuzu home to try. Yuzu was an intense lemon sorbet. Pandan was a creamy nutty, vanilla, green flavor. The black cones are nice and crunchy, they remind me of brown sugar/caramel flavor. The shop is cool retro 80's. There is a green area and they provide blankets for ice cream picnics, a nice touch. Worth a visit. Their neighbors are a Thai place, a Ramen place, and a Mexican place. And now we want to try those. Nice area for a lunch date.
Very unique ice cream! Was not expecting to like this place but went with my girlfriend anyways and honestly was surprised by how good it tasted. Service was okay, the girl behind the counter didn't say much but was kind. Love the vibe of the restaurant though, very low light / neon greenery vibes. Not a vegan ice cream guy but honestly will probably comeback at some point.
This was a tiny ice cream shop located in a small plaza Parking was limited since their parking lot didn't have many spots and the lot is shared with a few other businesses. However, there is street parking available Service was friendly and welcoming. Pricing was a little expensive. Expect to pay $9 for a scoop of ice cream and matcha/coffee drinks were $4-$7 Got the Ube & Thai Tea Soft Serve ($9) - the ice cream was very sweet and creamy. The flavor of ube was quite subtle. For $9 for a scoop of ice cream, I would have expected it to have a richer ube flavor. The Thai Tea was just as disappointing and couldn't taste the flavor of Thai tea at all. This was 6/10 The Oynx Coconut ($9) was very sweet and didn't have much of a coconut flavor. It was extremely black so expect to have a black tongue after! This was 6/10 Most likely won't return or recommend unfortunately.
Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon while out doing a little bit of shopping. I saw this spot had some unique ice cream flavors and black ice cream cones, so we wanted to try it out. The Ube/Onyx Coconut swirl was a delicious flavor combo, the ice cream itself was just the right consistency and really hit the spot on a hot day. The cones were a bit hard, so I think if we stop by again three our of the four of us would get a cup instead. The addition of adding on toasted marshmallows is a nice touch, it smelled great and my mom loved it on her cone. My daughter tried the sea salt. It was pretty tasty as well, the salt wasn't overpowering. The décor inside is fun & cozy, when we stopped by there was no one else there so we had our choice of seating.
The soft serve here is very good but I wasn't super in love with the iced onyx matcha I'd gotten (though it came highly recommended by the server). It was very floral-y and kind of bitter. The matcha flavors didn't come through very well for my tastes. Would come back for ice cream if I was in the area! If you're sensitive to food dyes or colorings you may want to avoid this place though!
ONYX Ice Cream is serving up unique and flavorful ice cream in the Phoenix area. This spot is located in a smaller plaza with some parking spots. There is also additional street parking and parking in nearby lots as well. Inside, they have a colorful and modern setup with a couple tables for seating. For their menu, they have their current ice cream flavors along with some drink options too. Wifey and I stopped by to briefly escape the AZ heat and opted for the Ube + Onyx Coconut Ice Cream with the Toasted Marshmallow Blackened Cone. Overall, we enjoyed the light and refreshing flavors of the ice cream. This was a great place to come grab a sweet treat to escape the heat for a while. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Make sure to stay connected with their social media to see when they rotate and introduce different flavors!
This place was fun, I really loved the colorful, modern decor around the shop. I came here with a friend on a Tuesday evening, and we were the only ones there. The owner was there and answered all of our questions and made some recommendations too! I decided to try the Thai Tea and Ube combined flavors. I also got the burnt marshmallow topping on the cone and that was really delicious! The ice cream was good! I also ordered the saguaro flavored ice cream to go, which was dairy free and that was actually my favorite flavor! There was a courtyard outside where people could hang out. Parking was available out front, but it might be harder to find parking when it's busier. Can't wait to come back!
When visiting my son in Arizona the first thing I said was where are we eating? Surprising the first thing he said was ice cream at ONYX ice cream. After eating Ramen at Mensho this was only a minute walk away as it is the same complex. There are a few more restaurants in this complex and I recommend having dessert here after dinner. The inside had a cool vibe with neon lights and a digital menu board. All of the flavors are soft serve and they rotate flavors. They have something unique here which I never saw before. There is an option of getting your cone torched for only $2! I was extremely interested and the young lady working here described what it was and I was sold. She bastes the cone with marshmallow and then hits it with the torch. I paired this with the Ube ice cream and it was a great combination. There is some seating in the shop and we ate here. I really enjoyed my Ube with the torched cone and would come back here. My son was also correct that this was my favorite bite during my short trip to Phoenix!
I have to leave another five star review for this place! The service here is always on point! The ice cream - I literally dream about and crave! I had he Uber torched cone this time, so so yummy This place is very instagrammable and cutesie Definitely bring your friends and family here. No one will leave disappointed

Came by on a Wednesday night and found many other patrons inside. I took this as a good sign! Menu was short and sweet (literally). I decided to go with a cup of the Ube Sea Salt. What a great combination of flavors! I shoveled every bit into my mouth! This place was a wonderful way to end our night after having dinner in one the restaurants within the same plaza. What a cute little spot! They make their soft serve batches in house, and I was really excited to try the saguaro and matcha soft serve (which are their current vegan offerings). The saguaro flavor was pretty interesting, it was light, fruity, and had some slightly earthy undertones. It's a perfect combo of flavors, especially for the summer. My favorite flavor though was the matcha soft serve with oat milk. It was so creamy and had a balanced flavor of matcha. We just ate at one of the restaurant beside it and now we are ready for dessert. I am so glad we saw this place. It's a cute instagram ready ice cream store. If Miami visited Phoenix and The Cure was their cousin, Onyx would be the spot. First off: it's over 100 degrees and the mood is low, so a chill air space is exactly where it's at. The energy at Onyx is all good vibes--with a retro Cure mix in the background and a color scheme that plays in both the bright and the moody lanes. Today's win: the ube ice cream, served in a cute little plastic cup. Next time? Definitely going for the waffle cone--because how could I not want more. Service was solid--helpful without the hard sell--which honestly made the treat feel even sweeter. As we were heading out of Menso, a sign on the way to the parking lot totally caught our eye. "Soft Serve" had me hooked right away, while "Coffee" got my husband's attention. Turns out, the spot was called ONYX Ice Cream--sounded like a must-try. We walked past this little grassy area where kids were playing, and there it was, ONYX, right next to it. I went for their coconut ice cream, and my husband grabbed an Iced Americano. The coconut ice cream was this crazy jet-black color--super unique and so good! But, lol, my lips and teeth were totally black after eating it. It was sweet but not too much, just perfect. His Americano was awesome too. Such a fun little food adventure! read more

This place has a piece of my heart. Not only do they have black waffle cones, they have unique ice cream flavors, and vibrant colors to match. @onyxicecream just opened in #Phoenix a couple of weeks ago. The inside of their shop has a really cool vibe with a faux living wall and various neon lighted decor. I ended up getting the saguaro flavor mixed with #ube. Both of the flavors were really good and tasty! The waffle cones are made fresh in the store and they do take a bit, especially if they run out, but it's worth it. The flavor is also rotate often and they have to go pints for sale as well. Go check them out and give them some #love . read more

Great new soft serve ice cream shop!!! This hiddde gem has the most unique flavors that are absolutely amazing!! Loved my non-dairy saquaro flavor!!!! So refreshing!!! New ice cream place in uptown. John the owner was fantastic! Quality ice cream with unique flavors and creamy texture. My sister got the toasted marshmallow on her waffle cone which is a must! This is just a beautiful place. I love how it's so elegantly decorated. The ice cream is phenomenal! My kiddo and I set out to try a new spot and tonight's special treat was ONYX ice cream! Since it was our first time there, we patiently waited for a parking spot in the front, but let it be known, the entrance is through the door facing the courtyard, so turn on Palo Verde and park in the back...lesson learned so I'm sharing it with you! We met the owner Jo. I complimented him on the place and he was happy to receive the compliment. He asked how I heard about it. Not sure if it's because I'm Yelp Elite, but the recommendation popped up for me! So thankful for the suggestion. Now to the ice cream...AH-MAZING!!! Jon explained the concept to us and how if the flavors are next to each other, that it's available as a swirl as well. Of course, we chose 2 flavors that paired so well together: coconut and ube! This is a nice quaint spot with a simple menu that consists of four different ice cream flavors and a small selection of tea and coffee. At the time of writing, there were 4 flavors to choose from: ube, saguaro, thai tea, and onyx coconut. My personal favorites were the ube and onyx coconut. Along with the unique flavors, one of the specialties of this place is the owner torching some flavor to your cone served ice cream. What I found odd is that there are two other flavors: matcha and yuzu but they are only available in take home pints. Note that in any ice cream/frozen yogurt place, you will always get the largest deal by buying their pint/quart options. Although not listed on their menu, their take home pints are $12 which is a great price. At other mom 'n pop shops, I've seen pints go for as high as $17 and the lowest I've seen is $10. There's enough chairs to hang out and there's even a shared area in the back with fake grass and other businesses to visit. read more

Really unique ice cream... truly well made. With bizarre delicious flavors that you wouldn't think would be very good but are. Having tried their Ube purple yam ice cream which was delicious as well as their coconut ice cream. The one that really stood out for me was the sea salt ice cream. With its sweet and savory flavor and its bright aqua hue. It has really great texture and as with all their ice cream is soft served, giving a light and delicate texture. You just don't find this kind of passion in most ice cream shops. When I first came into this place I thought it would be all hype. Another gimmick machine designed to fool the masses with Clever tricks like crazy dyed ice cream but it was far from that... The service was excellent and the menu was easy to navigate. The ambience is relaxed and casual, and the facilities are well maintained and very clean. This definitely a great place and rare find.. read more
