We enjoyed this soft serve shop. They had Ube, Coconut, and an Apple Pie special for July 4th. The toasted marshmallow on the cone is delicious. And we both agreed Coconut was the best flavor. We also took pints Pandan, and Yuzu home to try. Yuzu was an intense lemon sorbet. Pandan was a creamy nutty, vanilla, green flavor. The black cones are nice and crunchy, they remind me of brown sugar/caramel flavor. The shop is cool retro 80's. There is a green area and they provide blankets for ice cream picnics, a nice touch. Worth a visit. Their neighbors are a Thai place, a Ramen place, and a Mexican place. And now we want to try those. Nice area for a lunch date.

very unique and fun place to try, we all loved the flavors we got and found them interesting, big portions in my opinion. the woman behind the counter knew what she was doing and served us fast. inside is cold with fun lighting and music, they even have picnic style blankets if you want to sit out on the turf courtyard.

Not your typical ice cream spot but definitely a must try. Decided to go with the Onyx Coconut and Ube with the torched cone. Since it was our first try, staff was very good at explaining all our options. Even stepped out to show off toasting the marshmallow cone. Entire place has a low light vibe but not too dark. Great break from the sun.

Very unique ice cream! Was not expecting to like this place but went with my girlfriend anyways and honestly was surprised by how good it tasted. Service was okay, the girl behind the counter didn't say much but was kind. Love the vibe of the restaurant though, very low light / neon greenery vibes. This was a tiny ice cream shop located in a small plaza Parking was limited since their parking lot didn't have many spots and the lot is shared with a few other businesses. However, there is street parking available Service was friendly and welcoming. Pricing was a little expensive. Expect to pay $9 for a scoop of ice cream and matcha/coffee drinks were $4-$7 Got the Ube & Thai Tea Soft Serve ($9) - the ice cream was very sweet and creamy. The flavor of ube was quite subtle. For $9 for a scoop of ice cream, I would have expected it to have a richer ube flavor. The Thai Tea was just as disappointing and couldn't taste the flavor of Thai tea at all. This was 6/10 The Oynx Coconut ($9) was very sweet and didn't have much of a coconut flavor. It was extremely black so expect to have a black tongue after! This was 6/10 Most likely won't return or recommend unfortunately.

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon while out doing a little bit of shopping. I saw this spot had some unique ice cream flavors and black ice cream cones, so we wanted to try it out. The Ube/Onyx Coconut swirl was a delicious flavor combo, the ice cream itself was just the right consistency and really hit the spot on a hot day. The cones were a bit hard, so I think if we stop by again three our of the four of us would get a cup instead. The addition of adding on toasted marshmallows is a nice touch, it smelled great and my mom loved it on her cone. My daughter tried the sea salt. It was pretty tasty as well, the salt wasn't overpowering. The décor inside is fun & cozy, when we stopped by there was no one else there so we had our choice of seating.

The soft serve here is very good but I wasn't super in love with the iced onyx matcha I'd gotten (though it came highly recommended by the server). It was very floral-y and kind of bitter. The matcha flavors didn't come through very well for my tastes. Would come back for ice cream if I was in the area! If you're sensitive to food dyes or colorings you may want to avoid this place though!

ONYX Ice Cream is serving up unique and flavorful ice cream in the Phoenix area. This spot is located in a smaller plaza with some parking spots. There is also additional street parking and parking in nearby lots as well. Inside, they have a colorful and modern setup with a couple tables for seating. For their menu, they have their current ice cream flavors along with some drink options too. Wifey and I stopped by to briefly escape the AZ heat and opted for the Ube + Onyx Coconut Ice Cream with the Toasted Marshmallow Blackened Cone. Overall, we enjoyed the light and refreshing flavors of the ice cream. This was a great place to come grab a sweet treat to escape the heat for a while. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Make sure to stay connected with their social media to see when they rotate and introduce different flavors!

This place was fun, I really loved the colorful, modern decor around the shop. I came here with a friend on a Tuesday evening, and we were the only ones there. The owner was there and answered all of our questions and made some recommendations too! I decided to try the Thai Tea and Ube combined flavors. I also got the burnt marshmallow topping on the cone and that was really delicious! The ice cream was good! I also ordered the saguaro flavored ice cream to go, which was dairy free and that was actually my favorite flavor! There was a courtyard outside where people could hang out. Parking was available out front, but it might be harder to find parking when it's busier. Can't wait to come back!

Been going here for the past few months and it has been consistently good. Their ube js one of the best in the valley imo. The texture is also really nice. Their menu does have rotation from time to time from yuzu to thai tea and I recommend asking for a sample.

They usually only have about four flavors on it one time, but let me tell you those flavors are amazing. The black cones are super crispy and I love the sea salt mixed with coconut! Looks better than it tastes. Good for food pix not so much for the mouth. Melts way too fast. Expensive for what it is and the taste is not worth the price. Also the amount of food coloring they use to achieve this picture perfect cone is so unnecessary. Id suggest going to a more natural shop and eating something that actually tastes good. We had just finished dinner at Mensho and decided to walk around the eatery/shopping area. We came upon ONYX. Such a cute little ice cream/coffee shop. They only have 4 flavors of fresh ice cream daily but more pints available in the refrigerator. Boo got the salt flavor and said it was some of best creamiest ice cream he ever had. The soft serves we ordered are Ube in a cup and Ube+Matcha in a cup. They were generous in servings, very creamy and smooth texture which we liked. The place has a cool vibe, industrial-modern style interior and I can see how it'll be a nice hangout spot to chill with friends. There's also a park on the other side of the shop entrance which is unique--I think definitely dog/pets friendly place! The flavor's pretty good, too. I just thought that if it had some toppings to add a touch of complementing flavor and texture, it would've deserved a 5-star. read more

We are a big fan of all things Ube. When we were in the Philippines last summer we tried a charcoal ice cream (just looked like charcoal but taste is coconut). So we wanted to try this place. We had a mixof the Ube & charcoal in a cone with toasted marshmallow on the outside. The Ube ice cream was fabulous with a full Ube flavor not too sweet and quite creamy. The charcoal ice cream was just as delightful. The black cone was a regular super cone but black and the toasted marshmallow on the outside added a well paired smoky flavor that really works. Wow this was fantastic. After we had a tasted of the seasalt ice cream and had a very unique flavor that was quite nice it made your mouth water and want more. I just stumbled upon this place while walking back from the Ramen restaurant nearby. I wasn't necessarily craving something really sweet and I was so pleasantly surprised that Onyx ice cream consisted of really flavorful but not extremely sweet ice cream. It's right up my alley since I am the person that prefers tart soft serve over really sweet desserts. This Ube soft serve was absolutely fantastic. I've never had anything like it the black cone and I have no idea what it's made of, but it just rounds out the flavor perfectly. Last night me and my boyfriend dashed over to grab onyx we've been going since the beginning and last night was our last time the check out lady was sweet but we watched her pour melted ice cream in our cones and scrapped it out of the machine to give to us and didn't offer a discount given the fact that the ice cream was melted then our total was 26.99 for two soft serve cones? 2 dollars for torched marshmallows when that's what your known for? its way out of price range salt and straw churn are great options they have freshly made ice cream wouldn't recommended exspecially since they've become 26 dollars for soft serve cones I love supporting small business but had a horrible experience last night there are many other places in the valley that are less and hold themselves to a better representation standard don't usally leave bad reviews but 26 dollars in this economy read the room you were just affordable last month ???!!!! First of all, I wasn't even asked for my order when I arrived and just stood there. Matcha was not ceremonial although the menu online stated their matcha was ceremonial grade. The powder was a very slight green and tasted worse than Starbucks matcha. Worst matcha I've ever had, tasted like grass and I have had plenty of good matcha in the state. It was way too expensive for the taste. I asked for no ice and only half the drink was filled up with barely any matcha in it. This place should not be stingy with bad matcha. Wow! We just popped by after dinner down the street and boy glad we did...it's soft serve homemade at its finest. Told the owner Jon to give us his fav and it was absolutely awesome. The cones are a black waffle cone he dipped in marshmallow then torched and filled with heavenly colors: pink, plum and dark purple. Being from New England, I am a big fan of soft serve, which is difficult to find in Phoenix. While DQ has it, it isn't the same delicious taste that I grew up with. On a whim, I Googled "soft serve". Onyx was a result, and I decided to give it a try. WOW WOW WOW!!! This was the most inspired, inventive, delicious, and visually appealing soft serve i have ever had! I had ube and onyx coconut: the ube a gorgeous lavender color, and the coconut was black, and they were served in a black waffle cone that was delicious. I am blown away, and cannot wait to go back. The only thing not to like here is the limited seating, luckily there's a whole courtyard through the back door. We went twice in the same week, and we don't live in central phoenix - so it was on purpose, that's how good them experience is! The roasted marshmallow on the cone is a really fun, and delicious, surprise. There are only 4 flavors in the machine at a time. Did not stop me from ordering the same thing twice. You can also buy pints. Overall, highly recommend. read more

The dessert landscape in Arizona has a lot of the same thing being done over and over, in different packaging. We wanted to bring a fresh look, feel, and taste that you can't find anywhere else. The concept of ONYX was build on three pillars or uniqueness: 1) Unique presentation - vibrantly colorful soft serve, served on black cones, and in a space carefully curated to a modern 80s/sythwave vibe 2) Unique offerings - from our ice cream flavors (Ube, Yuzu, Saguaro, Candy Cap Mushroom, etc), to our freshly torched marshmallow cone upgrades and espresso/matcha affogatos, to our coffee bar (cloud matcha, house iced latte - made with coconut water and cinnamon) 3) Unique quality - small batch, made in house, using local organic milk & cream and fruit purees. The Scookie Bar is "where the scoop met the cookie" and serves freshly baked, warm deep-dish skillet cookies also known as scookies. They have a location at The Churchill in Downtown Phoenix, though I would assume I would more regularly see them when their food truck stops by ASU. Their Churchill location is closed on Monday but open Tuesday through Friday from 5-10 PM and Saturday and Sunday from Noon to 10 PM. If you want to order catering, it includes 2 hours of service and a 100 scookie minimum. They can provide a Build Your Own Menu where guests can choose the cookie, ice cream, and toppings, or they can choose from the Signature Scookie Menu which is what ASU did. They have been operating since 2016 in Phoenix. Now that I realize that I was missing the chocolate chip cookie, I need to try it again with that included! I definitely recommend this sweet treat to others.
