    Her k Chicken Wings
    Ava W.

It's Thursday around 2:45 I'm in the mood for some chicken and I'm driving in Calumet City and I see this small restaurant that sells jerk chicken. It's a small mom and pop place and you could tell it's family owned. I ordered two pieces of fried dark meat and 3 jerked chicken wings. Both orders came with coleslaw and a second side so I opted for the mustard greens. The jerked wings were spicy with a great smoky charred flavor. They gave me a free jerk chicken egg roll and it was the perfect tasty bite. The fried chicken with fries was greasy and it didn't have much seasoning. I ordered my food at 2:45 and the chef told me it would be 15 minutes so I ran and got gas. I returned at 3:15 and had to wait an additional 15 minutes. So it was 45 minutes total and the place was empty. I was so disappointed with the fried chicken I could see the potential so maybe this was just an off day. I would recommend they stick to what they do best and that appears to be the jerk chicken. Nothing special about the decor. I highly recommend a to go order and just don't order the fried chicken. I doubt I will be returning.

We have decided to intentionally support black owned businesses in our area... that's what brought us to Oo Wee Chicken and Ribs. The food and service will keep us coming back! We had a 1/2 slab of baby back ribs, chicken jerk tips and two types of fries. All I can say is yum! I think this place might become our new "go to" for takeout bbq.

Gave the fried green tomatoes and mac and cheese a try. Tomatoes were very good with just the right amount of breading, no extra sauce needed to enjoy. Mac and cheese was good as well.

We had the pork tips, jerk chicken tips, jerk chicken wings , and fried chicken wings. The food was really good. The portions were generous and the people were great. I'll be back when I swing through Lansing again. When I do go back, I'll look to try their sweet teas.

First time trying it please save your money spent $70 on bucket of tips that was disgusting and tasted like maple syrup It was poured on them not only that the sides were even worse the candy yams were some mash potato yams tasted like anything but yams looks like baby food macaroni cheese was fair not really good not to mention please check your bag they will forget to put multiple items that you paid for Please save yourself the headache they forgot my french fries with mild sauce that came with the bucket of ribs and my potato salad I was trying to be nice and try something new this makes me not want to go outside my boundaries

    Heading to the food.

I enjoyed my visit here. The Customer Service was absolutely amazing!! The Rep that assisted me was very attentive, courteous, friendly and knowledgeable about the food. And he was like this with EVERY customer. The food was good, I like how my order was in the same container but the items were separated and not by dividers (its just my preference). The sauce was delicious, just would've liked to have a mixture on the food. Not in the cups, but that's minor. The chicken was very crispy and flavorful. My only compliants are I wish the mac & cheese either had more cheese mixed into it, not just on the top (but it was good). And I wish I had more rib tips, the portion did seem to be small for the price. Over all, I would go back when I'm in the area.

Trash. This is a large. It contained 10 tips for $15.00. Never again. This sides were also trash.

We ordered the Black Bullet party pack which comes with two pounds of brisket and two large sides. We went with fries and beans, and also added ribs, mac and cheese, and buns to the order. The brisket is still the star of the show. The spice rub on it is perfect, and it's so tender that it's unreal. The fries are exactly the kind of battered fries I like which was a pleasant surprise because I feel like not many places do them that way. The beans were okay... a little sweeter than I personally prefer, but they had huge chunks of pork in them that I definitely appreciated. We also added two slabs of ribs, and they fell right off the bone. I'm usually not a huge ribs person, but these were well cooked and flavorful. Mom loved them, and that's what really matters. We did have a few small issues with the order. We realized that our mac and cheese was unfortunately missing when we got home. They also ran out of pretzel buns midway through packing things up, so we ended up with a mix of pretzel and brioche buns instead. Honestly, we didn't mind that one too much because it gave us a chance to try both (I'd pick pretzel if I were you). When we picked up the order the place was absolutely packed, so it was hard to be upset over an honest mistake. They were clearly incredibly busy. I still don't really care for the sweeter sauce that tastes heavily like peppers to me, but their vinegar-based sauce (which I think is their original?) was much better than I remember. I'm glad to see this place is still around and still holds up after all this time. More importantly, the brisket is every bit as good as I remembered.

We thought we would have to wait till we drove to Chicago for good food. This place is welcoming, charming and modern. I ordered the sea bass with vodka pasta and my husband the lamb lollipop with roasted potatos. Both were 10/10. We are very picky and self proclaimed foodies. For dessert we shared the tiramisu. It was good. 9/10 for small size and a tiny bit dry. The flavors were well balanced though. We sat on the Fiori side but had a choice of sitting on either side and can order from both menus. What a great concept.

Their standard menu does not feature their vegan options, so we had to wait for the waitress to come back around again to ask for this. Unfortunately, the Vegan Chicken Breast was crossed off, so I'm not sure if that will be coming back. I went with the Vegan Reuben, a reliable standard, but it was terribly disappointing. It prompted me to pull up my photos from our previous dining experience there, and the sandwich looks so much more unappetizing. The current sandwich is wet, pale, and oddly sweet. The color and texture are so different, so I'm not sure what they've changed from their original recipe.

I must preface by saying I have wanted to do this event for a long, long time. But alas work has made it nearly impossible to do. Time becomes a commodity as you get older. It's do or die. The latter is inevitable. Not knowing how this festival works I studied Yelp reviews. I joined a DLD Facebook to find helpful tips. Both were extremely helpful. It is basically a musical festival, a giant bottle share and people dressed as warlocks all in one. There are three levels of admission: VIP Deluxe, GA and one with just for the concert. Depending on your budget each has it pros and cons. Me, my suggestion is to get the VIP Deluxe. It is crazy expensive and goes fast. However, I believe it is the best option. So I got the regular GA, which is $200 hundred bucks. You get 4 DLD variant stouts and admission to the concert. Maybe to the casual festival goer this will seem alot. Once you get here you will experience something unique. A week or two before the event happens they mail you wristbands. Do not put them on. There is a QR Code which you have to attach a credit card to. It is a cashless event. It's just like the Sail and Sign on a Cruise Ship in theory. As you buy drinks, merch or food you use the wristband to pay for them. A quick few pro-tips. Do not bring lawn chairs. Know that you are going to stand most of the time. Before I go on, let me rewind a bit. The parking situation is not dire but get there as early as you can. Local businesses offer parking for $20 bucks. We were able to find parking within walking distance to the festival. Here came the kicker for me, they had a guy doing a DLD tailgate party. It's like a normal tailgating party but with free to sample beers. He had things I have only heard of in tales of lore. My next pro-tip is to bring a small plastic sample glass. Once you arrive staff is there to put on your wristbands for you. And they check all ID'S. You are allowed to bring in some beer and an unopened bottle of water. Bring the water! I will say the logistics and mechanics of it run really smoothly. The staff are extremely super friendly and helpful. Having only seen 3 Floyd's in pictures it is more vast than I had imagined. Every nook and cranny was filled with something of interest. There were tap spaces everywhere. Vendors. Food trucks. In the center of it all was a Viking Court, with the largest bottle share I have ever seen. They had a thing called, "The Wheel of Death." For twenty-five bucks you spin a wheel similar to "Wheel of Fortune." You can win beer, merch or even your name etched onto a keg. I thought about doing it but the wait was already a couple of hours in. Most of your time here will be spent standing in line for something. For beer. Food. Restrooms. The merch lines were insane. Fortunately for you when this happen there are lots of people dying to share their brought in beer. I will say a great deal of the drinks I had were from beer sharers. For the most part festival goers were friendly. However, there is finite seating here. Which makes the VIP Deluxe option more enticing. After a while I wanted to sit somewhere. Since seating is sparce I saw groups monopolizing available benches. For example a bench that could fit ten people was instead filled with 3 harboring stuff. You would eye a bench and people would place a hat, a bag to prevent you from sitting with them. I get it. My biggest critique is that they need to let festival goers bring in folding chairs. For example I saw people in various stages of drunkenness: stumbling or even passed out. Letting people bring in folding chairs would allow them to cool down. It would also create a more laid back vibe. It certainly has the space to do so. Quickly before I write more volumes the musical entertainment is extreme metal. The dance floor is filled with moshers and headbangers. If you are expecting bossa nova jazz you will be disappointed. By and large I did enjoy this event. Will I recommend it to someone? Absolutely. Will I do it again? Probably not. It's a young person's world now. The Dark Lord Day is a very, very unique experience. And I believe we should fill our lives with them. Was that a dude dressed as a wizard at the festival or was it in fact Gandalf? After a few stouts you won't know the difference.

My wife was put off a bit when she noticed the sign on the counter warning that "you will be waiting several minutes for your food" but I asked her "do you want fast fish or good fish?". As to that I don't think we actually waited even 5 minutes after we ordered. My wife is not big on fish, she always puts tartar sauce all over it. BUT she does taste the fillets first. We got the catfish (takeout) and after she sampled a piece, she put her tartar sauce back in the fridge! I had taken Jolly's up on their suggestion to let them add their "lemon pepper blend" seasoning before the breading, and WOW that makes some really good catfish. Yes, everything is breaded fresh here, and cooked to order, nothing "kept under heat lamps her - that is why the wait. The fish is lightly breaded, well fried to make a crisp coating, (extra crispy edges) yet moist and flaky inside. So tender that if you stab a fillet with your fork it just breaks into two pieces. As long as they keep making their fish this good we will be back - often! Yes, I do recommend Jolly's fish!

It's seasoned well and crispy but fresh tasting and so good. It's not spicy, just has a great flavor. The tartar sauce is a bit sweet and I like it! The surprising star is the FRIES - they are crispy and tasty - some of the best around!!! LOVE THEM. The Chicken Wings are also tasty - so much meat on them. They rival most wing places around here and are so good. You can dip them in the sauces they provide - mild or hot - or ask for something else. They are very accommodating. I also like how they do NOT use styrofoam containers for their food - they put it in bags which helps keep it hot still and crispy!!! Nothing gets soggy. There was a Groupon deal online recently and I tried that and used it and it was easy. So TRY THEM OUT!!!!!!! Oh - the shrimp weren't my favorite. I've had much better. Even at fast food joints. But the other food makes up for it. I would also like to just grab some fries next time. I wish they would have fried okra - feel like that would go well there. OH - and the service has been wonderful! A small place - near the Antique Mall Shopping Area. It's a bit hidden, but if you are at the Antique Mall - just look across the parking lot and you will find it!
